I am pregnant with my second child. My daughter was born 6 weeks premature so I started some 17-P injections last night. I will get them every week for the next 20 weeks. A nurse comes to my house and checks my vitals and listens to the baby's heart beat. I feel comforted knowing I have some extra 'eyes' on me. Having my daughter in the NICU for 2 weeks was very traumatic so I am praying we can get to week 37 without any hitches! I am VERY tired and not sleeping great. The night sweats are just wild and make me have crazy dreams! We find out the sex of our baby on Dec. 20th so we are thrilled!
Thursday, 20 Dec
Well, the ultrasound technician told us immediately we had a little boy because, well he was proud to display his little man hood! We have a healthy baby and are so excited. My husband and I were pretty shocked at first to find it was a boy because we are so accustomed to raising a little girl. I think we will be fine, it is just very new to us! We told our little 3 year old daughter before anyone else and she is so excited. It is important to me that she feels like a big part of all this, so I took her out last night and she picked out the babies first gifts, 2 cute sleeper outfits and a baby rattle. She even picked out some really cute nursery bedding. We are so thrilled. I am also so happy to not be suffering from the m/s anymore. The baby is really active and I have been sleeping better with Unisom so things have been nicer. I have had 3 progesterone shots now, and getting used to them, I guess. They are not fun but not terrible either. Only 17 more to go! I am so excited about Christmas this year and just wanting to take it easy with my little family.

Monday, 31 Dec
YAY...week 20...thank GOD! The weeks seem to be passing faster now that the m/s has subsided. My husband and I came up with a baby name for our little boy...Jaxin Kristopher. I have been feeling pretty good, just some crazy pains here and there. My nurse said, though, as long as the pains are not constant, not to be too alarmed. I am paranoid though, because every new pain makes me worry my water is about to break like it did with my daughter. I had my weekly shot today and it hurt less than usual, which was nice! All my vitals were normal, as usual and the baby was very active and had a heart beat of 140. Things are looking great!
We love our baby boy, Jaxin Kristopher!
Monday, 4 Feb
Well, everything is still going well with baby and I. I had an ultrasound last week so they could make sure my cervix has not shortened any. Everything looked fine. The ultrasound was totally amazing. Jaxin is so VERY VERY active! The nurse thought perhaps I had consumed caffeine or something prior to my visit as much as he was moving. It was so cool to see him moving around and looking so cute. The u/s tech gave us lots of video clips on a disk so I could share them with my fam and friends. I go back next week for the gestational diabetes test (YUCK). I hope I pass. I have gained a lot more weight with this pregnancy than my first. It is WILD how different everything has been. People keep telling me its b/c he is a boy but who knows! I have been having some BH contractions but as long as I drink lots of water, that seems to keep them to a minimum. Some days I feel really great, then others I get scared because I start having a random pain or something but they eventually subside. I have night sweats all night long and peeing multiple times in the night is so routine now it is weird. We are hoping to get the nursery set up very soon IF Lowe's gets their butts over here and install us a new attic door. It broke the other day and we can not access the attic :( I am dying to get Jaxin's things set up!
Friday, 29 Feb
The pains between
my legs (particularly when walking) worsened so I went to the doc on Wednesday morning. I am
glad I did because I am dilated a centimeter. Because I had a preemie
before (at 34 weeks), they sent me to labor & delivery where I was
monitored overnight. The minor contractions I was having did not change
my cervix any, so I am now at home and on bedrest. I should be getting
a home monitor to monitor contractions. I am scared but thankful my
water has not broken yet, like it did with my first pregnancy.
Sunday, 9 March
Well, I have made it a couple more weeks and am very thankful! Bed rest is not as horrible as I feared. I just have to stick to a routine and keep the sun shining in my windows. I am on Procardia to help control contractions and I have a home uterine monitor as well. Last Thurs I had a doc appt and my cervix had not changed for the worse (still 1cm dilated and 15% effaced). That was good news. I go back to the doc this Thursday (my 30th birthday). It will be a great b-day present to see all is still the same (or improved.) I am hoping they will do another FFN test to ease my mind for the next two weeks. Jaxin is an active fella! He has dropped already though and I feel pressure. That is kinda scary so I am doing my best to stay off my feet and my bottom.
Monday, 7 April
YAY! I am so thrilled to have made it to 34 weeks, 1 day...that is 2 days further than I made it with my daughter. I am still on bedrest for the rest of this week and then next week, I can start moving around a little bit more. I will have to still take it really easy, but hopefully, I will get some strength back. 6 weeks of bed rest has made me really weak. I am at a very uncomfortable stage now...thirsty ALL the time and constantly peeing. Jaxin is still active but I can tell he is def. running outtta room! I only have 3 more 17-P shots left of the 20 total I have to take during this pregnancy. Really hoping to make it to 37 weeks so we will have no NICU worries! Fingers, toes and LEGS crossed :)
Tuesday, 22 April
36 weeks, 2 days!! I am off bed rest, off the Procardia, off the 17-P injections and I sent back my contraction monitor yesterday. So, for the moment, I am FREE!! I am trying to move about at a slow pace. I get so tired so fast and I seriously feel like I have a bowling ball or three in my belly. LOTS of discomfort and cramping, lower back pain, and losing the mucous plug. I don't think it will be long! I have my 36 week appt. tomorrow so I am eager to see how dilated I am. I really would like Jaxin to wait till next week, so he will be "full term" but I do feel like I could go at any minute.
Thursday, 24 April
My appt yesterday went really well. My doc congratulated me on making it to our goal appt and said I had done really great and to be proud of myself. I appreciated that a lot. She did the Strep B test and my internal exam. I am 3 cm dilated, 50% effaced and I am measuring 2 weeks ahead. She agreed Jaxin's head is VERY low. Because of my progress with the dilation, etc. she said if I don't go on my own by Monday, we can then talk about induction for later next week. I am having lower back pain, lots of cramping and pressure and bloody show. My hip bones are not cooperating and I am having terrible ligament pain on my left side where the baby likes to be. I feel like I am going to go into labor very soon but who knows. This is all such a different experience for me from my last pregnancy. It is wild! Oh I also definitely feel like I am a testament to bed rest b/c right after I got off and started moving, I could feel things progressing quickly. As yucko as it was having to be in bed for 8 weeks, I am thankful the docs advised me to do so.

Monday, 26 May I think the nursing is going well but I'm not 100% sure. My baby still has not passed her meconium and we're getting real worried. She passed a tiny bit about 30 hours after her birth and nothing since. I don't ever want to go back to that hospital if we can help it, and fortunately our family pediatrician said she will examine her tomorrow if she still hasn't passed it. I love our pediatrician and trust him completely-the hospital pediatricians? Not so much. So I feel so relieved that he's offered to see her on the holiday!
So anyway, I think she's getting lots of milk, and I'm nursing her constantly, but it is troubling that she hasn't been pooping. Hopefully, everything is okay and it is just taking her a little extra time.
How is the nursing working out for you? Are you on a routine yet?

Monday, 26 May Thank you so much. You just hit it head on with how I'm feeling. I just told my hubby today that I feel like a failure as a mom and as a woman because I'm not "toughing it out" with the bf. I just don't know how much torture I put myself through before I say enough is enough. I went to the natural food store today and got some tea that supposed to help with my milk supply, I'm going to try pumping more and give my nipples a break. Hopefully if I have a full breast, she'll latch better and eat better. We'll see. Thanks for the info. weenerh -
Sunday, 25 May ok, next question. Do you pump every time he eats? or is your pumping schedule different then your feeding schedule. How long do you typically pump for? Sorry for prying but I really want the benefits of breastfeeding but am not sure I can do it. If I can pump and feed I will. I'm also finding that she has a weak suck and I'm losing my milk supply that way too. She gets extremely pissed when she has to work at it. weenerh -
Sunday, 25 May So do you find that your milk supply has gone down since pumping more? I worry about that. socalgal -
Saturday, 24 May Hi there! So happy that I get to care for Alexandria on the outside now. What a relief to have her out!
We are both doing great! We just can't wait to go home. I hate that the hospital makes you stay two days and checks us constantly. It's like some weird form of torture by people who are all trying to be nice but are so annoying! We should get released tomorrow because no matter how hard they try, they can't find anything to worry about with either the baby or me! Lol! weenerh -
Saturday, 24 May Thanks for the advice. That makes me feel a whole bunch better. Now I have to work on getting my milk supply back up. The last 24 hours have been kind of crappy with feeding and I was so tired last night that my hubby ended up feeding her since I couldn't and I didn't pump so now I'm playing catch up. Thanks again for the advice. Oh and by the way, I love your son's name. I'm a bit biased though as my son's name is Jaxon as well. jaimiecollette -
Friday, 23 May Hi! :) thank you, i have now posted my birth story. Your baby boy is super cute, congratulations for making it to 37 weeks! SchoppeSweetheart -
Thursday, 22 May He was in the NICU b/c he had a seizure. I had to call 911 after i picked him up out of his swing and thinking he was gassy, tried to burp him...he acted like he had the hiccups really bad but then he stiffened up and turned completely purple. His eyes were crossed and fixed and he acted like he was holding his breath. I wasn't sure what was happening..thought maybe he spit up and choked on it, so I'm holding him over my shoulder patting his back, then he starts jerking (all 4 limbs) when I couldnt tell if he was breathing or not I called 911. After the jerking stopped he went completely limp and was unresponsive..unable to be woken up. Anyways, after he got ambulanced downtown he had 2 more seizures that night. They did a spinal tap, EEG, cat scan, the works... they found some small brain bleeds which they said were just from delivery and were not the cause of the seizures... they gave him phenobarbital to prevent anymore seizure activity (which completely knocks him out)... the overall result is that the seizures were the same thing that my husband experienced as an infant and my hubby's seizures stopped by the age of 2. They are calling it benign familial neonatal epilepsey. Since they started him on the meds he has had no other seizure. He will probably be on the meds up to 6 months. The most incredibley scary thing that could have ever happened...calling 911 on my 5 day old child.... MariaC -
Wednesday, 21 May Me too. Are you losing track of who had what too??? LOL! xXx socalgal -
Tuesday, 20 May I have good news! I did what I could to walk last weekend (which mostly involved going to a mall so I could be in the air conditioning) and I bought a book that had exercise recommendations to help use gravity to your advantage and I got the baby to drop! Woo Hoo! Very happy. My doctor told me on Friday that she did not think the baby could drop because she is posterior facing, but my tummy went from 39 cms to 34 cms from Friday to Monday, so now things are looking much better.
So glad that nursing is going well for you and Jaxin. I loved nursing. It gets so much easier in time. The first month is a period of adjustment (which is probably how you got the infection), but you will end up loving it so much. In the end it was hard for me to wean him, not just for him. I really miss that connection with him and the ability to comfort him so easily and quickly whenever something hurt or he didn't feel good. It is such a beautiful thing. And I am sure you have already noticed how they look at you while feeding--it's like they have so much love for you right away. Amazing!
I will keep you posted for sure. xxxxx HaveFaith050108 -
Tuesday, 20 May I feel the exact same way girl! I feel like she has my breast on lock 24/7 and always hungry girl! I'm still breastfeeding her now and I'm thinking of investing in a pump but I'm really thinking about transferring to formula fulltime girl. I dunno! I am happy that she got the colostrum from the breastfeeding but I'm just still fighting myself as whether or not I should switch. guess that's the big part of being a mom - always wanting the best for your kids huh...Your comment definitely helps girl....Glad to know that I'm not the only one who thinks its a PAIN - LOL! Take Care, Courtney xoxo socalgal -
Monday, 19 May Hi there! Great to hear from you and to know that you and Jaxin are doing well! My due date is Wednesday, but the doctor is already threatening inducement because she is so large (already over 9 lbs). I am so jealous that you have been enjoying your little one these three weeks while I have been sweating in Southern California with 100 degree whether and swollen ankles! lol!
I will be sure to post my birth story if she is every born. It is starting to feel like I am going to prego forever. . .

Monday, 5 May Hi there Mamasita! So happy to hear from you between feedings! ;)
It is normal to be exhausted at first. Even if you hadn't been on bedrest, trying to recover from labor while constantly breastfeeding AND being deprived of sleep is sooooo hard. I remember that. It definitely gets easier and it does become more of a routine for you. I think your milk even changes over time so that as Jaxin's digestive system develops, your milk evolves to become more filling. Eventually, he will be able to sleep 5-6 hours a night without feeding, which will feel amazing for you! Just drink lots of water and savour this time together--it goes by so fast. By 6 months he'll begin on rice cereal and next thing you know you'll actually miss nursing him! I really miss it. It comforts not only the baby but you too--it releases so many hormones that are good for you.
Oh, and be prepared for occasional "growth spurts" where he will temporarily nurse more than usual. But its so cool being so in-tuned to your baby's development. You'll grow to love it in time.
Not much going on here. But I did finally get laid this morning after 5 months of "pelvic rest" so I'm in a much better mood than I've been in a long time! Lol! I'm off to go for a walk. . . I've been walking a couple miles every day to try to get this baby out. :) MariaC -
