BIRTH STORY
Woke up on Saturday 29th with pink fluid like staining at 9am, changed myself and within 20 minutes there was more, this stopped but I phoned the midwife at about half two just to check and they asked me to come down so they could check that it wasnt my waters.
Headed to hospital and they did a speculum exam and said my waters were still intact, I was attached to a monitor to check the heatbeat and if there was any sign of any contractions. The midwife said I was having mild tightenings but I was fine to go home and to come back on Monday when I was due a check up. That was 4pm so off home we went.
Had dinner and came online then watched a movie with my mum until Maurice got home from work at ten. When we got home we played the computer until 12 and I was getting mild pains in my back. Ran a bath a one oclock which helped the pain and then we got into bed.
Maurice drifted off to sleep but the pain was stopping me sleeping, took some paracetamol and had a hot water bottle but that didnt really help, eventually at 4am I couldnt manage the pain so we phoned the hospital so they told us to come in.
Was connected up to the machine again and no tightenings were registering, readings had been 60 that day but they were only reading 4 and 5. The midwife said everything was fine and we could head home but I told her the pain in my back was really bad so something must be wrong, she said she would feel my cervix to see if it was soft and on doing that discovered I was 5cm dilated so they admitted me.
Went down to labour and delivery and had some tea and toast and gas and air then when the midwifes changed at 8 the new midwife asked me if I would like to try the pool so we moved room and I got into the birthing pool and Maurice had a shower hose which he held onto my back which felt great.
The midwife then said they didnt think my labour was established so they were going to move me back down to maternity but she said I could have another half an hour in the pool to see if it brought the contractions on any stronger, after half an hour she came in and said they were going to move me but she said she would check me first by this stage I was 8cm so she said I could have my pethadine injection at this stage but I wasnt allowed back in the pool.
Once I had the pethadine I felt sick and was sick twice and then felt alot better, Maurice went off to get a drink so my mum popped in for half an hour, as soon as she came in we were standing beside the bed and my waters broke all over her shoes!!
I then got onto the bed and the midwife put a mirror there so I could see what was happening when I pushed, Something I thought I would never do but It really helped me see when I was pushing how much she was coming down and how I had to keep pushing through the pain or I could see her going back up.
The pain when she was crowning was really bad but once her head came out it was so quick, she just flew out, she didnt cry just gazed at us both.
I had a third degree tear so went to theatre to get stitched and had a spinal which was great cause I couldnt feel any pain at all then.
