Welcome! My husband and I are expecting our first baby in June 2008. It's been quite a year for us since we had two weddings, one here in Japan and another in Canada. We got pregnant almost right away, which was a relief and we're both looking forward to this new stage in our lives. I know my husband is going to make a great father and hopefully I'll do ok as a mother! The timing of our baby is so perfect in many ways. Next year at Christmas, the baby will be 5 months old and we'll bring him or her to Canada to be introduced to my relatives. It'll be my husband's first "real" Christmas in Canada and my baby's first Christmas ever! This Christmas will be a quiet one, but that's ok because I know what's coming up :)

Hi. I'm new at this VIP thing, but thought I'd give it a try. I really enjoy reading about everyone's experiences as they go along from week to week. My husband and I are very excited to be welcoming our first baby (not that we're necessarily planning on having more). Morning Sickness struck me pretty hard and has been going on since week 6. I'm really looking forward to the second trimester that everyone promises will get better.

I have gone six days without throwing up!!!! I `m so excited by this, words cannot express it. It `s hard to believe that I have vomited at least every other day since the end of October. Still can `t eat chocolate but boy the turkey I had yesterday tasted great!!! Now I `m hoping for a little Christmas magic so that I can feel the baby move soon. Can `t wait!

Monday, 7 Jan
Went to the doctor today and saw our little growing miracle again, seemed to be having quite the little party in there, moving all about. For some reason unlike many on this site, my doctor says she can `t be sure if we `re having a boy or a girl until my 26th week. However, there wasn `t a lot sticking out from between the legs that we could see, and she said that if we don `t see a penis there in the next two months, we `re having a girl. I think it `s a girl, but then the legs look like arms and the arms look like legs to me through that machine! So who knows! Still, thinkin ` pink!

Thursday, 10 Jan
Definitely felt the baby move today!!! I know I felt it before, but was never sure. However, today I am sure. Bottom left side. So cute!

Saturday, 19 Jan
Regarding natural childbirth- not my first choice, but rather one being imposed on me by the culture of the people where I live. (No pain, no gain when it comes to childbirth in Japan). Unlike Jo-Mama, I am more than a little nervous about the whole thing, though my husband will be a great support and other foreign wives who have already been through the same situation are being a great support. Any advice from anyone on the subject of natural childbirth (including reassuring stories) is much appreciated!)

Thursday, 7 Feb

Looks like we're having a boy?! (Last month there wasn't anything there and the doctor said maybe a girl.) I'm interested to see next month's ultrasound- it'll be the tiebreaker.

Wednesday, 5 Mar
Well, just felt like updating. Big news this week is that my left milk machine leaked a little the other night (which was exciting for me and a relief to know that all seems to be in working order). Still having trouble coming up with boy `s names. However, we `ll see tomorrow at the Doctor `s if we even need boy `s names or not. Was our little baby playing tricks on us last week or is that really a little `chin chin ` as they say in Japanese. Either it `ll be bigger or it will have disappeared. I don `t care either way- I am getting so used to the idea of a son, that it `ll take me a while to readjust if we `re told girl again. I `m getting really excited to meet our little one! Wondering what he or she will look like. Apparently the baby can hear already and this week is forming hair and next week will open his or her eyes (which will be blue in the womb but I `m betting brown after birth- think this baby is going to take after Daddy). Wish I didn `t catch this cold, but it could be a lot worse. The baby often wiggles around after I cough, poor thing- likely saying `Mommy I `m trying to sleep, stop coughing! ` Still not wiggling strong enough for Daddy to feel, but all in good time I guess. I `m glad I `m not too big yet, it `s easy to get around and I can still bend over and pick things up etc. I don `t feel to heavy (although I `m pretty sure I `ll get another lecture about weight gain again tomorrow. Happy pregnancies to all!

Monday, 17 Mar

Happy St. Patty `s Day!

I was inspired at work today for some reason. Here is are some altered lyrics for Mambo No. 5- (It `s the Pregnancy Mix!)

A little bit of leg cramps in the night.

A little bit of heartburn all the time.

A little bit of peeing when I sneeze.

A little bit of leaking from my boobies.

A little bit of backache when I stand.

A little bit of hemmroids on my can.

A little bit of nausea, now long gone.

In just a few months I'll be a MOM!

Da da da da, da da da...

Tuesday, 18 Mar

Had my first two week check up today at our new hospital. Baby seems fine- nurses and doctor still really nice! I was happy to get a form for us to fill out about our birth plan!! And another one about giving birth `freestyle ` as they call it here, which just means not on your back. One small concern, sugar in my urine. If it `s there again next time they `ll do the diabetes test (they don `t do it unless there are other signs). I have a question- did anyone who tested positive for GD have other signs in addition to failing the test? Oh and they had me lying on my back in a hot room for a while before the ultrasound and I started feeling really bad and had to sit up which led to a horrible case of the dizzies and I got so hot that I had to take my top off and stay in my bra. Then I had to lie on my side for a bit and I started feeling better. The nurse was surprised that happened to me already- she said it usually happens later (that the baby cuts of circulation when lying on your back). Rings on my hands are getting tight too so (boohoo) time to take them off for now.

April 10th

My tummy is starting to get really big. I can't believe the baby will double in size between now and birth (which means my tummy will also double!) I worry about weight gain cause they are so strict here. I gained 1kg (2lbs) in two weeks last Doctor's appointment and they were telling me to be careful. It's only been a week since then and I think I've gained the same or more already!! Because I lost 6 kgs during morning sickness, I've only actually gained 4 or 5 kgs since my prepregnancy weight (11llbs) but I was already 20 lbs overweight. So, have I gained more than 10 kgs starting from my lowest weight during morning sickness or have I gained only 4 or 5??? I worry that I'm gaining weight too quickly and not eating healthy enough and that it will affect the baby. The last few weeks I've been so bad, eating chocolate, chips and stuffing my face til I'm bursting with regular meals (always regretting that afterwards, yet still stupidly doing it again!) I also find it difficult to eat in the mornings again, slight nausea has returned and I have to be awake for more than an hour to eat (unless I've gotten to sleep in). That means I eat at work- again not as healthy- I need my whole wheat cereal with milk. I'm worried about not getting enough calcium (though I take supplements). I just feel guilty basically for how I've been eating the past few weeks. And my main exercise is going to the washroom! At least I still have a couple months left to try and eat healthier. I hope my hunger level goes down and my cravings for bad things goes away. I'm not so big on the will power. I started off writing this in a good mood, but now I feel down :(

April 21st, 2008

I am feeling better about the whole weight thing and ended up not having gained as much as I thought I had. However, I am noticing that my moodiness is starting to get a little out of control! I am not only emotional and can cry easily (and then I get mad at myself for crying and cry about that!! I feel like a teenager again !) I also have the patience of a two year old. People are getting soooo annoying, even some friends, even just the way the talk (how horrible eh?) Drivers who get in my way make me crazy and I yell at them from my car even though they can't hear me. Then I worry about how my anger/emotion is affecting the baby. People at work can annoy me too (some more than others). there doesn't have to be a reason, sometimes it's just the tone of their voice (high voices are especially grating). People I didn't like before pregnancy I really hate now. Wow, I sound horrible. I feel pretty horrible too! It's not ALL the time, but it definitely is increasing in frequency. I always worried about how I'd be pregnant cause I can be pretty moody when I'm not pregnant, but until the third trimester I wasn't really very different from usual. Now I feel sorry for my husband who probably feels like he has to walk on eggs around me. I hope this is just a short phase and I'll get over it soon, but reading ahead in the weekly comments, it looks like the bigger I get, the scarier I may become!

May 8th, 2008

One more week of work left before I start maternity leave! Yay! That has definitely put me in a better mood. And last weekend Dh's family took us shopping for baby things and bought us a car seat, a crib and mattress and a bunch of other things I can't even remember. We felt guilty that they spent so much on us, but they seemed to enjoy shopping around and picking things out. They were good though and checked with us if we really wanted/needed things. There were like nine of us in the baby store here shopping. Even Dh's aunts are so excited, it's almost like the baby is their grandchild. It's nice though to see others so excited about our little bundle. I've seen such a wonderful side of dh's family which has been nice too.

Baby is doing well in there. Until now he's been such a gentle kicker, but now that he's running out of room he's stretching and wiggling more and I think it's the stretching that is kind of uncomfortable. I still love feeling him move, but I can see how this could get almost painful as he gets bigger and has less room. He's poking me as I write this, must be his head or hands cause it's lower. Funny how I know now, legs or arms. Legs are definitely stronger though! I can't believe how much I love him already! Dh is getting impatient for baby to make his appearance. It'll come soon enough I think- time is starting to fly (although may slow down once I'm on maternity leave).

We still have things to prepare. The crib will come next week and I ordered Dreft online which should come soon so we can start washing the baby's things. But we started cleaning our own stuff and organizing to make room for the baby's things. Sorting clothes was fun- whole new categories now rather than just winter/summer. While putting away my winter clothes, I also put away the summer clothes I don't have a chance of fitting. Boohoo. I did find some things that should fit after the baby comes (drawstring skirts etc.) Also, since I won't be working I put away my nice work clothes. My new job after September will be working with really little kids (3 to 5 years old) so I'll be wearing more casual clothes from then too. It was hard going through all my clothes, I should have gotten rid of more, but I just couldn't! God knows how long many of them will be in storage based on my job/weight etc.

Hmmm, this is the longest update ever. I guess I'll finish off by saying I went to bed at 6pm last night!! I thought I would just nap, but only woke up to go to the bathroom at 12:30am! I had had a busy day at work and had only gotten five hours sleep the night before, but still, crazy! I've never gone to bed at 6 before, 7 yes, 6 no. I guess that third trimester fatigue is seeping in a little, though honestly I still feel pretty great overall (anything compared the the first trimester has been great!) Then at 1:00am we had a series of earthquakes that woke me up and kept me up for a couple of hours. It's unusual to get more than one and they were pretty big and lasted pretty long! I never know whether or not to stay in bed and wait til they finish or prepare to try and escape from our house! Another fun thing about living in Japan.

Wishing everyone who visits my profile a very enjoyable and comfortable last few weeks of pregnancy!

everybody tells me to keep moving around and walking and stuff.ive tried relaxing lol,its very hard for me...cd's is a good idea and i probably could, thanks

mplsmama - 17.6 hours ago
Hey, how'd your dr's appt go? I had one yesterday too... just a regular appt, but I did ask her about what was going to happen if they determine next wk that my baby is still really large. She said that basically if it's in the 11+ lb range, they'll likely be scheduling a c-section. If it's in the 1O lb range, she probably won't argue w/ me if I want to schedule a c-section. Talk about pressure! I almost don't want that decision to be mine. But I do think it'd be kinda interesting to know exactly when I'm giving birth! Of course the downside is that it's surgery, and if you know in advance, then there'll be so many people (ie my husband's entire family} that'll want to be there... and I"ll tell you right now I've had heart surgery & knee surgery, and I am NOT a pleasant person to be around after surgery! I am not going to be in the mood to entertain a darn person after that! So.... I guess we'd probably have to tell people that we would still need to call them & tell them when we were ready for visitors. It just would be so much easier to not really have anyone know when you're going into the hospital, and then just call them after the fact. Oh well, I guess I shouldn't jump the gun until I get my u/s results next week! I'm still not giving up hope of being able to have a vaginal birth...
Yeah, my cat is quite the little character! We're trying soooo hard to pay attention to him & stuff, but I swear he already can sense things are changing. Like when the baby is moving & my hubby is talking to my belly, our cat will seriously come over & try to get his attention. Such a little smarty! I have the door to the nursery closed for now... I don't mind if he's crabby about the baby, as long as he doesn't go after him/her after they're born!

that is exactly what I am going through. The copy machine and fax machine is in my office so everyone is always in and out but they are always reaching across me to get my stapler or a pen off of my desk and I swear one of these days I'm going to bite one of them, lol. You are lucky you get to take off now, my company only pays for 4 weeks of maternity leave and then I have to use vacation and sick time, and since I havn't felt well through my entire pregnancy and I also have 2 children, I don't have much of that to use. So, I am going to try to work through until the big day. Enjoy being off and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. Keep me informed of your progress.

mplsmama - Wednesday, 14 May
Hey, happy belated mother's day to you too! Did you do anything fun? We visited my hubby's mom & stepmom... I figured this would be the last year we'd do this b/c after this year, mother's day will be all mine! :} We spend just about every holiday running around, and I'm looking forward to drawing some of those boundaries once we have our own little family.
I really feel like the baby has "dropped." I feel more pressure "down-south." It's kind of weird. I have a dr's appt tomorrow so I'm kind of hoping she does a cervix check or something. I don't want to rush things too much, but I really am getting anxious to get this labor & delivery thing overwith! Or I guess I should say, I'm just soooo excited to meet my little one and hold him/her in my arms!
That's great that you guys got the crib up & clothes put away... I know, really makes it feel real, doesn't it? It's crazy to think that pretty much any day we could have our little ones in those cribs...
Do you have pets at all? We've been really trying to acclamate our cat to the idea of the baby... but I was mortified that the other day he looked right at us & went to the bathroom right on the rug in the nursery! Talk about passive-aggressive! He never does that. I am so nervous now about how he's going to react to the little one. Obviously baby's safety will have to come 1st. But I've had my cat for 13 yrs, so I'd be devastated if we had to get rid of him! Who knows...
Hope all is well!

aww well thank you

LindaM - Tuesday, 13 May
Hi I just wanted to share my hand pain with you. About two months ago I started getting tingling in my 3 middle fingers in my left hand. Now it is so bad that I wake up everyday with my hands stiff and I have to sleep sitting up because my hands hurt so bad during the night. The doctor said this is common and it will go away after the baby is born.

trishx - Tuesday, 13 May
dont worry , it sounds like you have carpel tunnel syndrome , it is very common in pregnancy, I started with it at about 4 months and it tends to get worse. Your hands might get a bit stiff and sore , but apparently it goes away as soon as the baby is born , it is caused by water retention .

kelliepace - Tuesday, 13 May
I get the numbness from sleeping at night for no particular reason too. And when I wake up I can barely grasp anything- I cant even eat my cereal. It's like I have crippled arthritic old lady hands. It's pregnancy induced carpal tunnel symptoms, according to my doctor. I just swept the floor and my hands automatically rejected the broom because they hurt so bad! ugh!

prego1018 - Tuesday, 13 May
Wow, 12 years away! Is that all in Japan? I'm guessing that is how you met your hubby. What brought you there in the first place, job? I love storied like this!

I quit being a flight attendant at about 4mos pregnant. I was super sick every time I worked, throwing up next to passengers, it was bad. I also did some research and found that flight crews had double the amount of miscarriages than almost any other occupation. Once I read that, my husband and I decided it was time to go. I thought I would miss it, but I actually don't at all! I do miss traveling for free though! Yeah, San Francisco is pretty awesome, it's one of my favorite US cities/places! San Fran, Chicago, Lake Tahoe, those are a few of my favorites! In terms of Canada, I loved Ottawa and Vancouver. Never been to Montreal, but just about every other large Canadian city. I love Canada and the people that live there. Canadians from what I have experienced are way more laid back than Americans!

Super tired still. Didn't get much of a nap today, so I think it's getting close to my bed time. haha.

Looking forward to your stories!

me.

burtonbabe148 - Tuesday, 13 May
Hey i read your post about your hands going numb. Mine do the same hting and my doctor told me i have carpal tunnel, Theres wrist guards you can get at the grocery store in the pharmacy area that are specifically for it that help a lot. But my doc said it should go away on its own after pregnancy is over. Good Luck!

ack! - Monday, 12 May
Thanks. How was your Mother's Day? Did you celebrate? We just finished the nursery over the weekend, I need to take some photos and put them online. I also tooks some pregnancy photos over the weekend. They came out really nice. I am going to crop my belly out of them and add them to my page as well. From the move, almost everything is put away, but hopefully it will be all done by this weekend because we are going to have several guests over. Pregnancy really slows me down, but I am trying hard to keep on top of things before they slip away...

Notesfam - Monday, 12 May
We just got Madalynn's name on her wall. Her room is officially done!! I can't help but to just go in there throughout the day just to look at it!! It is sooo.... cute and turned out soooo.... good!!!! As soon as we can another digital camera, I'll post pictures! How was your mothers day?? I had a wonderful day!! What a blessing it is to be a mother! Did you get anything for mothers day this year? Only a month to go!!! Woo hoo! Talk to you soon!

prego1018 - Monday, 12 May
Grrr, can't sleep, can't sleep, can't sleep! I hate that!!!

I know Ottawa, haha! My ex-boyfriend lives there, and I used to be a flight attendant and had several overnights there. Very cool city, and fun too! Is it the Market area there that you have? That is awesome that you live in Japan! Where would you rather be, which do you like better in terms of lifestyle? Never been there, but would love to some day.

I currently live in Denver but have lived in several cities all over the US, but am from Los Angles and consider that home. I miss it, but my husband hates California, so don't think that is a future possibility in terms of living.

Picture is me. Got them done by an awesome photographer when I went back to L.A. for my baby shower. It was a fun, but cold shoot. Water was FREEZING!

prego1018 - Monday, 12 May
Where in Canada do you live? I love Canada!

prego1018 - Monday, 12 May
Oh, haha, thanks! Yeah, wish I was nesting! I feel soooo lazy! I wake up and think, ooh a nap would be nice. Thanks for assuring me I'm not the only one! Hope your pregnancy is going well too!!!

NumberFive - Monday, 12 May
thanks good luck as well, wow so u like it there eh

NumberFive - Monday, 12 May
oh wow neat how did u end up there

summerx - Saturday, 10 May
thanks for the link. I actually just watched a homebirth on youtube.com where the girl used hypnosis (I guess, they said she did). anyway, she was VERY calm and looked relaxed- she only moaned with each contraction, but she wasn't load or anything- I like those ones much better then the screaming ones! I'll look into it. thanks again.

mplsmama - Saturday, 10 May
Hey, good to hear from ya! Glad to hear you're doing well. I totally hear ya on the rib pain! Mine has seriously been laying underneath my ribs for the past few months. The dr says it's his/her little butt that's nestled up in my ribs... too cute! As annoying as it can be, I think I'll miss that after s/he's here! That's awesome that you can start your leave soon, too. I'm so envious. You are right, I started my new job this week. I think I'll really like it, and they're being really really cool about not giving me too much responsibility to start with, so I really can't complain. But I'm a little nervous b/c I'll start handling trials as soon as I'm back from maternity leave. Talk about overwhelming! I'm taking 12 wks off, and unfortunately it's unpaid. But we were thinking I wouldn't work for a while anyway so we've been saving.
I just can't believe how exhausted I am at the end of the day. It's weird b/c I used to be such a high-energy person, and now about all I can do is work 8 hrs / day and then I have to go home & rest! I couldn't even make a quick stop at the grocery store after work yesterday... I was too exhausted. It's so not like me! Oh well, not much longer! And I really do think I'm going to miss being pregnant after s/he's here... it's going to be so weird. I'm excited though!
I have another u/s in a couple of weeks & I can't wait to hear the latest on my little monster. :} We'll see how much s/he's grown.
Hope you're having a fabulous weekend!

mumofsix - Friday, 9 May
Thanks for your comments. Not long for you now, very exciting. All the very best. I find it interesting that they do not offer pain relief in Japan, it's amazing how different cultures approach pregnancy and birth.

Notesfam - Friday, 9 May
Are you going to be going back to work after the baby comes or are you going to stay at home with him? Thats great your getting on maturnity leave already!! Yeah, I wish I could go natural!!! I am not looking forward to a c-section. Recovery sucks!!!! I'm glad to hear your doing ok! Talk to you soon!

ack! - Friday, 9 May
I'm amazed that the baby can be so active at this stage in the game - can't be too much room in there! I am feeling tons of movement as well. Looks like a lot of the women are starting to get the pre-labor symptoms so I suspect that in two weeks, a lot of our friends on this page will be having their babies. I am not having any of those yet - so I wonder if I am going to be in the 42 week category. It would be nice to have the baby sooner though. Especially since I will be working until the water breaks. Working the hours that I do is really starting to take a toll on me. That is fantastic that you are finishing up this week. You can spend the time making the final preparations. DO you have a long to-do list? How are you feeling?

MariaC - Friday, 9 May
Thank you, you too? How are you? xXx

Notesfam - Thursday, 8 May
I'm doing ok! I'm just soo... done being pregnant!! I don't think I would ever say that, but this pregnancy has been rough on me compared to my other two! I loved being pregnant the whole time with the other two. This one is so much rougher on me! I just got over a painful case of hemmeroids (I know TMI). Not from being constipated, just from the pressure of baby Madalynn! And I can't even roll over in bed without going as slow as I can and wincing out in pain!! It hurts so bad!! I have a date for my scheduled c-section, June 11th. I don't think I can wait that long! I guess I have to though, I have no choice! How are you doing?
