March 20, 2008

Since January I have been getting alot of braxton hicks contractions. At the end of Feburary I started to get cramping along with the braxton hicks. The dr sent me to the hospital for a non stress test. The test was fine. I continued to get the contractions and the cramping. On March 17 I started bleeding. I went to the emergency room and the nurse that checked me said that my cervix was very short and I soft and it would admit a finger. I also had an UTI and a yeast infection. They kept me in the hospital that night and I had an ultrasound the next day and then they sent me home to be on bed rest. On March 19 the results from the ultrasound showed the baby was at 31 weeks and 4 lbs. The dr told me today that I was showing signs of preterm labor but he does not want to check me himself because it could cause me to go into labor. He feels that this could have been caused by the infections I have. He is worried that I will deliver early so he is making have steroid shots to help develope babies lungs. If I do go into labor early I will have to be flown to the city (which is a 5 hr drive away) because they do not deal with that here in the small town I live in. I now have to stay on bed rest for the next few weeks and get non stress test 3 times a week. I guess we will see what happens during the next week and go from there. Hopefully all goes well and she stays put for at least a 6 or 7 weeks!

We had our ultrasound today. I guess all these prediction things are right because its a GIRL!!! Or so they think but they are not totally sure. The great thing is I already have a girl so I don't have to go out and buy new things. My daughter started to cry when she found out because she wanted a little brother! AWE! I hope things change once the baby gets here!

You have a 28% chance of having a boy.
And you have a 71% chance of having a girl.

And Here's Why...
You are carrying the extra weight around the hips and bottom, so it's a girl.
The hair on your legs is not growing any faster during your preganacy, so it's a girl.
Girls are carried high. You are going to have a girl.
Your feet are not colder than they were before pregnancy. You are having a girl.
You refuse to eat the heel of a loaf of bread. You are having a girl.
Dad-to-be is gaining weight right along with Mom-to-be, which means that you'll have a boy.
The maternal grandmother doesn't have gray hair (dyed or natural), so a girl will be born.
You had morning sickness early in pregnancy, so you are expecting a girl.
You are not looking particularly good during pregnancy. Therefore, it must be a girl, because girls steal their mother's looks.
Your chest development has not been very dramatic during pregnancy. You should expect a boy.
Since the sum of the mother's age at conception and the number of the month of conception is even, it will be a boy.
Your urine is a dull yellow color, so you will have a girl.
You are craving sweets, which means that it is a girl.
Your nose hasn't changed during pregnancy, which indicates a girl.
You have been craving fruits, so it is a girl.
Your baby's heart rate is below 140 beats per minute, so it's a boy.
You have no desire for orange juice, so it's a boy.
You are having headaches, so it's a boy.
Your belly looks like a watermelon, so it's a girl.
You show them the palm of your hand, so it's a girl.
You use the body of the mug, so it's a girl.

83 % chance of having a girl

Feburary 6, 2008

I go for my next sonogram on February 13, 2008. I am so excited that I will hopefully get to find out what this little one is! We do have some names picked out already but I am sure that by the time baby gets here they will change. Right now they are Jaxson Rayce or Calli Rayne. I can't wait to find out!!

One of the girls had this fun site to go to! It predicts, what you will have and how long your labor will take. I tried it and this is what I got. Hope it is true!!

Madame Zaritska's reading

Madame Zaritska, our resident clairvoyant, wants to help you prepare for the arrival of your child. Here she does her best to predict certain aspects of your labor and birth experience.

What she senses for you
The day you deliver, outside will be rainy. Your baby will arrive in the afternoon.

After a labor lasting approximately 2 hours, your child, a boy, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 7 pounds, 15 ounces, and will be 17-1/2 inches long. This child will have light blue eyes and be almost bald.

But there is more. I know you imagine your baby often. You wonder if your baby is safe and healthy. Why don't you go listen to a baby's heartbeat and think soothing thoughts about your own child.

December 5/07

Well we had our ultrasound yesterday! I was so excited. It made it much more real! I think it is because I have wanted this for so long that to actually have it is surreal. I can't wait until it comes out and I can hold it and cuddle it!

From what she was saying, the brain developed outside of the skull and the baby is actually brain dead, it must be so hard for her. She said that she saw the heartbeat on tuesday, but since then there hasn't been any movement, and the dr.'s had said that any movement that she was feeling before was involintary

BabyLeMay - Wednesday, 23 April
thank you so much for your reply......just wondered, did you go to the hospital straight away or was you able to stay at home a bit before you went?

Hi Cjlal,

I signed up today to be able to write to you with respect to cord banking question. I have done lots of research regarding this topic and it will be nice if it benefits somebody else. I wasn't really keen on banking the cord especially it is very expensive but I figure that the average parents spent more than that on toys and clothes for their babies.
Anyways, I live in Ottawa and here what I have done, I only looked for cord banks that it is AABB accredited, beware of banks who are compliants with AABB but not accredited by AABB. Below is the link to find facilities that are AABB accredited:
http://www.aabb.org/Content/Accreditation/Cord_Blood/cord.htm
I contacted the 5 canadian facilities that are accredited by AABB. We compiled a list of questions so we can determine which bank to select.
4 out of 5 replied to us. The only facility that didn't replied was cellforlife. For us, obviously this facility was out of question. If they are too busy conquer new client, they will be too busy serving an existing customer!!!
Anyways, we used an elimination process depending on the answers we have got. We were down to Insception http://www.insception.com/ and Progenics http://www.progenicscryobank.com/
Both of these facilities are very good but we went with Insception for reasons that you might not find very important. Our desicion was based on Insception being in business longer than progenics, their medical board seems more broad than progenics, they have more samples released for transplant and the success rate was 100% (obviously they are longer in business than progenics...). They have an Ottawa office recently opened (eventhough the sample will be banked in Toronto).
The only thing they are more expensive than progenics and their yearly fees will go up after 5 years. Progenics guarantee their prices for 18 years.
Oh, one more thing, if they ever go out of business, Hospital Mont Sinai will take back the program.
Anyways, hope you find this helpful. If you need the list of questions we asked the 5 facilities, please let me know.

Thank you so much for the message. It helps relieve my mind. It seemed so early. My doctor is going to check me just as a precaution. But as long as she stays put for another 4-5 weeks Ill be happy. Just don't want her coming too soon. Thanks again- this is my first so I feel like Im clueless!

Its so funny cause I just heard of banking the babies cord blood today. I think theres a website u can go to. I think its like cord blood .com maybe Im going to google ot for myself.

bellabelly - Friday, 4 April
Hey I'm from Ontario, Canada and I had wanted to donate the cord blood but they don't do that yet I guess. My doctor said that as of now we can only bank it for ourselves until more advancements and research is done. I really couldn't help you out with any info on how to bank it for yourself, but I just thought I would let you know in case you were interested in that as well.
If you just ask your doctor they should be able to help you out with any questions you may have too if you don't find the answers you are looking for here.
Good luck!

HI, I am from Toronto, Ontario and i have hooked up with Cells For Life and it seems to be ok, my sister used them a couple of years ago so i am doing the same. You have to pay an initial registration and then the fee for processing which is about $900 and then a yearly fee of $150 or so for 18 years. They say the benefits outweigh the expense. Check it out and let me know if you have any questions.

ChelsieC - Friday, 4 April
I am from WA state and I am banking my blood, If you google cord blood storage and Canada, you will see where your options are. It does not really matter where you are from though. My babies blood will be stored in CA after being tested in TX. The kit is free and you are not charged until the blood is tested and cleared. You have to have so many stem cells for it to be useful. The company that I have choosen is awesome! They provide a carrier to pick it up from your recovery room, and you are contacted after it is tested and then charged. They also offer you the chance to save $400 by paying for 18 years of storage up-front, or you can pay by the year. It is a great thing now and imagine the benifits of it in the years to come. Also, it is not only valuable to the baby but COULD be valuable to family members as well. Sorry to write a novel!!

weeble - Friday, 4 April
Hey cjlal,
I am from Ontario- and cord blood banking here is pretty expensive. The kit alone costs around 1500$ to purchase and if you are in a rural area and have your baby friday night through Sunday - there is of course no delivery and therefore they cannot adequately store it. There is a great website you can check our- I think it is called www.cellsforlife.com
hope this helps!
My hubby and I talked alot about it and really- we have to put our faith in God's hands. There is a reason for everything to happen in life, and I think that while you can try and prevent the worst, it doesn't always work out.

I'm from Quebec, I donated it to Hema-Quebec and then I got a letter saying they didnt get enough blood. The same thing happened to my sister in law and then I found out that this is a common thing so I was super happy that I didnt spend $1000 to have it banked privately.

natalie75 - Friday, 4 April
HI I banked my first sons cord blood with insception here is there website. http://www.insception.com/?gclid=CJLV7Y3pwZICFQqWggodDAzCxw

. This place is in Ontario not sure where you are from.

STCT - Friday, 4 April
I'm not going to bank the cord blood. I am going to donate the cord for the steam research. From my understanding it's a good thing to bank it just incase someone in the family needs it.

kar - Friday, 4 April
Hi. I'm from Markham, Ontario (suburb of Toronto) and have banked my 1st babies cord blood through Cells for Life (affiliated with Markham Stoufville Hospital). We paid $1,000 plus $125/year (for the next 15 years) for storage fees. I don't plan to this for the 2nd one 'cause I've heard that what's been banked can potentially be used for all siblings incl. parents!
My suggestion is if the $1,000 won't break your bank account then go for it, (definitely worth the peace of mind!). Good luck!

purpledaisy - Friday, 4 April
It seems that there is two definite opinions about cord blood banking verses delayed cord cutting. My partner and I personally opted for the delayed cord cutting. Here is an link for an article in the British Medical Journal but I urge you to do your own research : http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/extract/333/7574/919-a
All the best!

bootsy - Friday, 4 April
Hi,
I live in Canada and going to investigate banking stem cells. My husband is a brain cancer survivor and cancer also runs on my side of the family. I haven't had an appointment with my OB yet (I'm 25 weeks pregnant) but expect to get an appointment with her any day. If I find anything out I will let you know.

snowwhite5thbabe - Friday, 4 April
Hi! I'm from the U.S., but my son had cancer, so I know a little bit about this subject...You can usually get information from your Dr. on cord blood donation...But if you are wanting to save it for your child, you will need to find a private cord blood company to go through, and they will want to set it up by 34 weeks!
God bless you and your little one!

savvysmom05 - Tuesday, 1 Apr
I voted for your name list. I like most of your names. I wanted to tell you that I have a nephew named Rayce and I think this name is different. Good luck with the baby, I read that you are having some preterm labor. Take care.
