Hi all! I'm Charlotte! I have been married to Kevin, my high-school sweetheart, for 12 years. We have an 11 1/2 year old son, Trevor, who is getting ready to graduate the 5th grade! We found out on April 5th that we are expecting our second child on December 5th!! A bit of a surprise, but a very happy one!!

I am a Middle School Language Arts teacher. This year I taught Reading to 7th grade girls in an inner-city public school. Next year the school will be the first public all-boys school in the state of Kentucky. I will be teaching 6th grade Language Arts. This was my first year teaching and although most people think I'm crazy for teaching Middle School, I love it! This is what I've always wanted to do!!

ugh, it takes so long to spring back after a bug like that. And I don't know about you, but it always inspires me to make extra-close friends with Mr. Clean. I tend to take my first feeling-ok day and wear myself out cleaning EVERYthing to get the bug out of the house! Maybe it's my own brand of crazy... Take it easy.

Hi - I hope you are feeling better and that everything is ok with you and your baby. I found out this week that I had a m/c at 9.6 weeks and just never knew. When I went for my 12 week appointment, the doctor just couldn't find the heart beat. I wish you all the best with the rest of your pregnancy and your new baby. Take care of yourself.

I'm so sorry that you're not feeling well. I started my pregnancy with a stomach bug. I had been awfully worried too, having lost pregnancies enough times to feel that it is a very fragile condition. They told me the same things that others have already said: Just stay hydrated, and the baby will take what it needs. It just takes such a toll on the pregnant mother. I hope you feel better soon. Crystallized ginger root will usually stop the nausea. It's used in cooking all the time (safe) and works in seconds. You get it at a natural foods store (Trader Joes/Whole Foods). You can just chew on little pieces of it and swallow, or even cook with it. I used to make muffins with it to help with morning sickness.

We did a whole lot of nothing this weekend too... and it was great! We went to a BBQ on Sunday for a few hours and had a picnic by the river on Monday. What a great weekend! I know what you mean about the allergies. They were killing me too for a while. I read somewhere that when you are pg the steroids your body produces makes your allergies better. It seems to be working for me because usually if I am not on meds for them I get totally sick - slight fever and everything! Right now I am pretty much ok. Maybe the same thing will happen for you too! Did you go see Indiana Jones? What did you think? I heard it was pretty good. Hope everything is going better with you! (Have you made it to the point where you are happy that school is over yet? I am counting the days...18 school days including today!)

Your son sounds like an amazing boy! It's never easy to say goodbye to a pet who has been a member of the family for so long.

Congratulations on finishing your last day of school!! It's a big deal to have your first year behind you. Are you doing anything fun this weekend? We are just laying low at home. (I have been looking forward to lots of rest all week.) We have a BBQ to go to later this afternoon, but besides that we are relaxing :) I also have to finish my report card comments... so of course I am on this site instead of getting that done!

Hey! you have had a rough week! I feel for you having to put your cat to sleep. When I was 21 we had to put our family cat to sleep. He was 15 years old, and I was the only one in the family who could be there. He was in a lot of pain so we couldn't wait. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done. Try to keep your mind on the happy things. A new baby inside of you, a great son who is going to be a super big brother, a new house, the summer coming... Lots of happy things :)

Saying goodbye to your first class is always hard, but once the year is really over, you will be so happy to have a rest. Tomorrow will probably be sad, but as soon as it is over you'll have the whole summer to look forward to.

Try to enjoy the next few days! (And take pride in the knowledge that you would never be the type of mother who showed a picture of your son in his underwear to his entire class! lol) Take care of yourself!

My last day of school is June 19th. We have a long weekend this weekend for Memorial Day then I have two doctor appointments to look forward to next week! I am also taking a personal day on June 5th so I'm hoping the time will pass quickly. I'm looking forward to my last summer of freedom :)

The budget override didn't pass. My job should be safe, but there will be a lot of cuts for next year. It will be interesting to see how the school handles the changes. I don't think it's going to be too fun. One of the cuts is the school social worker. She is amazing with the kids, and there are a few who will have a really tough time without her. Plus our specialist times will probably be cut too.

5th grade graduation is exciting! You have a right to cry - preggo or not. It's your little boy moving up to middle school. Is he excited or nervous? How did the ceremony go?

Hey! I'm glad your ms is easing up a bit. I think mine is behind me. I never really had it that bad - it was more of a constant upset stomach. I can't believe we are almost at the end of the first trimester! (I turn 11 tomorrow, and I am so excited. one more week for me!) I have my 12 week appointment on Tuesday the 27th. I can't wait for that because I think we'll hear the heart beat! I guess waiting until August sounds like a long time, but it's really not as bad as it sounds. Plus you;ll be able to feel the baby before you know it! You'll still have plenty of time to prepare for a girl or a boy :)

The town where I teach took the vote today on whether to agree to the budget override. If it passes, there won't be cuts for next year. I don't think it will pass though. I ended up telling my principal that I was pg on Friday. It's a long story, but I was feeling wobbly and lightheaded for about an hour and a half. I started to get nervous so I went to the nurse and told her I was pg. She took my blood pressure, and it was kind of low. She said it was normal to have slightly low blood pressure so that made me feel better. Anyway, after I told her, I felt like I should just go ahead and tell my boss so she didn't hear from someone else. She was happy for me though so I'm glad I get it over with.

Congratulations on hitting 11 weeks! One week to go until the coveted second trimester! Hopefully you are starting to lose the first trimester symptoms already :)

Wow! you have been busy! After school ends, I can hardly hold my head up. Having to stay after is like torture! I bet the girls were fun when they were getting ready for cotillian though. Hope you get some time to rest this weekend!

We're doing the test, but we would never end the pregnancy no matter what. That's why we weren't going to do the test at first, but I heard the u/s is amazing because it's high resolution. If the results are bad, we'll take it as it comes. It wouldn't change anything for us though.

Uggg - you had a lot of stuff to do on the house! At least when you had to put new stuff in you could make it your own. Part of me wants an alder house with character that we would be able to fix up just the way we want it. At least that's how I felt before I was pg. Once we have a baby I don't know if I'll want to deal with all that!

Well, I have a lot of respect for teachers. I recently finished paper on education system around the world and its just sad how the U.S under pays the teachers when you all have one of the toughest and admirable jobs for sure!

I'm sorry about your aunt, what path did she end up taking? I went to Butler Traditional High school, its a pretty good school.

Right now I'm going to Jefferson Community College and hopefully I'll get a transfer to UofL to finish up. I really want to be a nurse, so I'm working hard to make it happen.

Sounds like you have a great living situation! I can't wait to have a house so I can decorate the nursery! We get up to 8 weeks paid, but we have to use our sick days too. Luckily, I never call in sick so between this year and next year I'll have about 6 weeks worth saved. Then our district has a sick day bank that I'm pretty sure I can use for the rest of the 8 weeks. Then The last four weeks are not paid at all. We'll be fine though just losing one month pay from me. The stinky thing is that the weeks for winter break and February break all count towards my weeks for leave even though I would have been off anyway, and they don't have to pay a sub or anything. I don't think vacation time should count against the leave we can take.

Only one more ultrasound. That sounds like pure torture! Are you planning on doing the test for Down's. If you do, they have to do an u/s for that... maybe it won't count as one of your two. I'm having that test two weeks from tomorrow. At first we weren't going to do it, but I pretty much decided that I really want to see the baby again!It must have been amazing to hear the heart beat though! I've only seen ours at 8 weeks. It was so awesome!

Congratulations on turning 12 next Friday! That has been my goal ever since I found out I was pg! (I turn 12 on Wed. the 28th.) My MS hasn't been that bad lately either though. It's more the tiredness that I want to get rid of!

I like living in Boston, but the houses around here are ridiculously priced. We won't be able to buy until we move again. It must be so nice to have a new house AND a new baby on the way. Are you doing a lot of remodeling, or was it ready to go when you moved in? (Being pg is a great way to get out of painting!) We are saving up a lot of money so that we can buy our dream house when the time comes :)

I've always known I wanted to be a teacher too. I couldn't imagine doing anything else. When I went back to school I already had an initial license so I didn't have to do another internship. I just went to classes full time and wrote a thesis. It was a nice change of pace, but I am happy to be back in the classroom. If I take more than 8 weeks leave when i have the baby next year won't count as a full year of teaching for me, but I think I will probably take my 12 weeks anyway. It will be hard enough to come back after that!

How have you been feeling. I think I am finally done with the sickness... but still tired all of the time!

You know, you will find your way. So many many weeks lie ahead when all you can do it wonder how it will all pan out. Glad you're going to work on the pediatrician--An ok one is OK, but a really good one is worth taking a long drive with a sick kid to get to. I teach in a suburb of Boston. It's a really good district, and I love my school! Plus our pay scale is pretty good and when I started they gave me credit for all of my previous years. Having my Master's done does feel good. It's weird because I started teaching in NJ where we didn't need to get a Master's. Then we moved to Mass. - it's required here after five years. you really worked hard to get your teaching degree! Since this is our first, I'm not sure how I will feel about working after I have the baby. part of me thinks I will want to keep teaching, but another part of me thinks I'll want to stay home. I'll definitely finish out the year next year, but after that I'm not sure. It does seem meant to be that you found a job you like and then got pg. Lots of good things happening at once:) You only have a few days left, right? When do you have to go back?

Hi CKS. I saw your Q's in week 10, and thought I could at least send some moral support. Having a pediatrician who is very supportive of lactation helps, and either the doc or the hospital should have a lactation consultant on available to help as you find out which problems are really going to be yours to hammer out. I had a similar experience to yours w/ my dd. I tried to use a bottle, she balked at it, and I didn't have enough need to force it. I learned a ton of strategies, but didn't push it b/c it was simply easier not to for a SAHM. Once you've got a good latch-on achieved and weight gain is going really well (that's why it's so good to have frequent well visits with newborns), you can start w/ the bottle. I highly doubt he'll refuse the breast if he has a successful latch with you. Then to start with the bottle (5-6 wks? depends on how your baby is doing), baby needs to be alert, hungry, but not famished. If too hungry, he'll get frustrated and refuse it all together. Let someone else try the bottle feeding, b/c he knows to expect a breast from you. If you can't, have him face away from your body in your lap. As for how much--good Q. You really won't know until you have wasted some milk to find out. I'd keep it down to 3 oz or so in the bottle, and just get out another bottle if he's still going strong--rather than start with a full bottle and have to dump the whole thing when he refuses it! As for training your body to pump/produce on the right schedule, I really think the training is in the living. There are always a couple of awkward days when you'll have to rely on some "banked" milk, and you may have some periods of engorgement. Your body will respond to the schedule your work and home life demand, and you'll be able to give your baby everything it needs. I know--This is getting to be a long pat on the back. Just some old fashioned encouragement from one mother to another. You know that colleague that you don't know so well--Gosh, if a perfect stranger will stop and write you a book, I'm sure that this person will carve out some time for you and happily share what has worked for her and what hasn't. Lactating people always seem to support each other. Best wishes.

Oh yeah I hear ya, my friend was over with her 2 kids saturday and since I had been watching them all week for the last 2 mths I swear to god, she was ready for them to go home saturday, it was too funny she was making sure they had all their stuff together and everything, ha ha ha I still chuckle over that one!
This time I was almost sure I was having a boy but everything I wanted was pretty and pink and I was upset that there wasn't any cute boy things and now I'm seeing tons of cute boy things so I'm feeling a little better. My carseat came in last week and it matches both mine and hubby's cars so I'm excited about that, and while yeah the color thing drew my eye in the first place I did make sure to check out the safety ratings and what not so I'm completely happy with it!
Now I get the bedroom stuff and I'm pretty much done, can't wait!

i think with my daughter I was picking out the stuff I wanted as they hadn't come out with all the pink stuff they have now by then, came out with it just after, grr!! So I picked the closest thing to feminine I could and we got the travel system and the pack and play to match. My mother got the crib for us and had it delivered less than a month before I had her, but it was right before my shower so I was happy to have it all set up for the shower, and then my hubby decided he wanted to do Winnie the Pooh, that was annoying!!
That's good that your son is taking some interest with this even if it's just a little to start with, as you get further along I'm sure it will grow even more, my daughter is always asking me how the baby is doing and sometimes she'll want to "hug and kiss" him, I'm still waiting to be able to let her feel him kicking but she's never around when he's beating me up but I'm sure that will come in time. She went to my appt with me today so she got to hear the heartbeat and was excited about that.
Hubby may not be back in time, but the guys he's with are upset that I won't have any help from family so they might try and push for him to either come home early or have some time off to come back for a few weeks, so we'll see, not holding my breath or anything but it's something nice to think about.

Ugg - Sounds like a lot of stress at work right now. Our district is going through a budget crisis so we are all a bit uneasy here. This is my first year teaching in this school. I took the year off to get my Master's last year so I am starting fresh. I love the school, but since it is my first year I don't definitely have a job next year. The chances of being laid off are small since other teachers are leaving anyway, but it's still a question mark, and it stinks! I haven't told my principal that I am pg yet because I don't want it to affect my status for next year. I have to tell her at the end of May though because i am going to have to leave school for two doctor's appointments in one week. (It will look pretty bad if I don't let her in.) Oh well - if I don't have a job next year I am going to take it as a sign that I was meant to stay home with the baby. Let me know if you've heard any news about your situation - Good luck!
