Saturday, 26 July Hi! It sounds like your fibroids are actually pretty small, luckily. The risk of fibroid surgery (myomectomy) is that it can cause scar tissue which may get in the way of having babies. So that is a huge risk to weigh if your fibroids do not cause you a lot of problems and did not cause problems in your pregnancy. It was a no-brainer for me with the size mine had grown to and the many problems they caused in my pregnancy.
Now, that said, I would be concerned that fibroids tend to grow during pregnancy because of the huge amounts of hormones in our systems. So, ask the doctor what potential he thinks there is for these harming your future pregnancies.
For me, my big fibroid started out the size of a softball when it was first measured. At 10 weeks of pregnancy, it was significantly larger, and by 30 weeks of pregnancy it was what you saw in my blog. I had to makes frequent trips to the bathroom before and after pregnancy because my enlarged uterus pushed on my bladder. I also have had a decent amount of back pain in the recent years, especially if I was standing still. I also had some pain during intercourse. Do you have any symptoms that may affect your quality of life?
Also, so you know where your fibroids are? Mine were mostly on the outside of the uterus which might have made them easier to remove b/c I did not have any bleeding after the surgery.
The first doctor I talked to before pregnancy would noot remove them due to my weight. He wanted me to lose a certain amount before he would consider it. The doctor who happened to be on call when I needed my emergency c-section was also a gyn surgeon and my weight did not bother him. He preformed the surgery with no problems. It never occurred to me to seek a second opinion. If you are at all uncomfortable or doubt your doctor, a second opinion won't hurt anything!!
Also I have another friend on here who had the Da Vinci surgery for her fibroids which caused her pregnancy a lot of harm. Her screen name is "onelove"
I hope this was not to much rambling!!! Anything I left out? nmck -
Friday, 18 July Thanks for your comment. Hopefully I will be as good as new in a couple of weeks. The recovery should be easier than my c-section, as I already feel much better than I did after that. If they did not re-open my incision I bet I would feel great in a week! knockoutmom -

Monday, 7 July Wow I am so glad yours did not affect your pregnancy! It totally sucks to be dealing with that bleeding now though. My belly still looks terrible. One of my fibroids as as big as a football and 2 more the size of softballs! I hope I look a lot better when they are gone. I could not handle wearing maternity clothes anymore so i bought a few shirts that fit me like this. Hopefully I can wear normal clothes after I have them removed.
Let me know what your doctor says about maybe removing them. I can't wait to go to my pre-op appointment tomorrow so I can finally ask all of my questions!! Your baby is soooo cute by the way! nmck -
Sunday, 6 July Hey! It is good to hear from people in the same boat. My fibroids are huge, like a football and 2 softballs. I am uncomfortable sometimes, and my back hurts if I stand still. It hurts during sex too and if I lay flat on my back or my belly. I did not have terribly heavy bleeding after the baby probably because I had a hemmorage which caused them to take my baby by c-section at 30 weeks. So I lost tons of blood before. But my first period after he was born was so so heavy I couldn't believe it.
I knew I had fibroids before I got pregnant. I was afraid I would be infertile. The doc said stop birth control and see what happens. I got preggo right away, but it was a difficult pregnancy with lots of bleeding. I ended up on bedrest in the hospital at the end and my son born 2 months early. I was very lucky. The day I hemmoraged the OB on call specializes in gynocologic surgery, and he said he wants to see me for my 6 week scheck up so he can talk about removing them. He said you have to be about 14-15 weeks away from delivery so your uterus is not so full of blood before surgery. So he scheduled me for 15 weeks after. They are going to remove them laparoscopically, so it should be ab easier recovery than my c-section.
After delivery, I spoke to the maternal-fetal specialist who strongly advised against stumbling into a pregnancy. He said I the fibroid problems would only increase, and I need to have them removed before another pregnancy. Ideally, I would like to have 2 more kids so I think the surgery is important.
Even if I didn't want more kids I would have the surgery. These suckers really affect your quality of life! Do you want to have more kids? What did your doctor say about your fibroids during your pregnancy? chute -

Wednesday, 25 June Thanks. I think I'm going to keep taking them, to keep me strong and healthy for my baby. Also, I plan to try to get pregnant in 10-11 months so it is probably a good idea. Sorry to hear about the fibroids and bleeding... is it serious? How are you? I hope you and your little one are doing well:) cheysmomma -
