My baby girl is now over one month and it has been a ride and a half, but I think we've finally gotten the hang of it. Angelica is truly a blessing!!!! I thought I knew love until I met her and despite the 1, 3, and 5 am feedings and pretty much no sleep I wouldn't change a thing. God has blessed us with an awesome responsibility and I vow to him, my husband and of course my baby girl that I will go to the end of the earth to be the best mommy that I know how to be.

Thank you!!! It has been great! She's a good baby! Are you enjoying it as much as I am??

mplsmama - Monday, 21 July
Hey, oh I was totally laughing when I read about the broken down toilet in the front yard of the daycare! What the...?! What are those people thinking? Crazy that other parents actually send their kids there! There definitely is a wide range of quality of care. Good for you for taking off until October. God I wish I could do that. I go back Aug 27th. I'm dreading it so bad it's not even funny. I try not to think about it. I think I told you earlier, though, that Dan will be home w/ her thru Nov, so at least I can ease into the idea of being away from her. I'm just sooooo attached to her! Especially since I'm breastfeeding. Oh, I guarantee I will be a mess when I have to leave. I do work close enough, though, to come home over the lunch hour so I may do that to help w/ the transition.
Isn't it crazy how fast they grow? Maisie was 9 lbs, 10 oz last wk! She already looks so much different than when she was firstborn. Her little face has filled out, etc. Overall she's a really good baby, too. Now that I'm finally healed from the c-section I've been taking her out & about, and I usually get compliments on how quiet she is out in public.
Do you guys think you'll have another? I seriously have the urge to get pregnant again! Am I crazy or what!? I still have to talk Dan into it too... he kinda just wants one. But if I have my way, I'll get pg again in Sept 09. We'll see... :)

Hey sweetie - sorry it took so long to respond but I was in Mayberry for a week with no internet access. Ryleigh is doing well. Kenya is in love with her. She loves taking care of her. I was pumping but I can't seem to get any milk to come out. It comes when she's eating though. So we've started with the formula. Kenya was sad in the beginning because she wanted to feed her and couldn't. So now she's getting her moneys worth.

I'm going back to work tomorrow but only from 8am to 12. I will do that for a few weeks. Probablay until school starts next month. Then I will go back to my regular schedule. I wanted her to be a bit older and less fussy.

Someone gave me a website to go to for child care. http://www.childcareaware.org/en/ She also sent me this dvd called The Happiest Baby on tbe Block. You should get this DVD.

mplsmama - Wednesday, 2 July
Hey, how did the daycare visit go? I really need to get on the stick about that... I think I'm subliminally avoiding it! Well, I did contact a childcare referral place & told them what I'm looking for, and they're sending me a list. After that, we'll make some calls.
How's everything else going? How's breastfeeding going? I'm still sticking w/ it, but it's weird b/c I swear I get more milk out of my left breast than my right! I don't know what to do about it either? Do you have that problem?
Maisie has also recently chosen 8-10 pm to be her fussy time. It's been really tough the past 2 nights. Although, I guess I can handle 2 hrs. I know that some babies are fussy all day. But man that's tough when she cries & you can't get her to stop!
Hope all is well w/ you & Angelica!

raynbowmami - Monday, 30 June
Hey sweetie, I'm just checking on you. I hope everything is going well. How is the little angel doing?

mplsmama - Wednesday, 25 June
Hi there, when I pump, I get anywhere from 2 oz to 5 oz... depending on whether I'm pumping in place of a feeding, or at the end of a feeding, etc. I just hope I can keep up this breastfeeding thing for the next few mos, b/c it really is a lot of time & energy! I am going to keep trying though... I feel like breast milk is better than formula. But... it definitely doesn't work out for everyone, so if it just doesn't work out for you, don't worry about it. I have many friends who gave breastfeeding the old college try, and just couldn't ever get it to fly. Oh, and I actually have been using the Medela bottles but Maisie doesn't seem to mind them.
I am going back to work end of Aug or early Sept & am very, very sad about it. Trying so hard not to think about it too much! My husband was able to take 12 wks off in the fall (he's a teacher) so he'll be home w/ her until Nov. Then my mom will watch her 2 days / wk, and we'll find daycare for 3 days / wk. We haven't started to look much yet, since I figure we still have time. A woman from my church does home daycare, so I'm hoping she may have an opening. Otherwise there's a center not far from our house that does daycare for many of the atty's in Minneapolis... I figure if a bunch of sue-happy atty's are happy there, it must be good! :) So we may look at that too, but they only do full-time & it's $300 / wk for infants! Yikes! Such a dilemma. What are you doing for daycare? When do you have to go back?

mplsmama - Friday, 20 June
Hey! I agree, being a mom is very challenging... but of course worth every moment. Maisie has been a really calm baby up until the past 2 nights... she's become a bit more fussy and it's really starting to wear on me. I swear she was up every hour last night... which is weird b/c earlier in the week we had a few nights where she slept 5 hr stretches! I guess they're just so unpredictable & that's something I'll have to accept.
I started pumping 4 days after she was born, while I was still in the hospital, b/c she lost weight & we had to supplement her w/ my breast milk to ensure she got enough. I would highly recommend pumping so that your hubby can bottle feed & give you a break! We've started doing shifts, so on the nights she only wakes 2x, I do one feeding, Dan does the other. It's really, really helpful. I think that pumping has actually helped increase my milk supply too. I'd give it a try if I were you!
How's everything else going? Are you trying to nap when Angelica sleeps? I always have every intention of doing that, but instead I clean my house or go on the dang computer. Oh well.
Oh, man, there she goes again... waking up from a nap... talk to you later!

raynbowmami - Wednesday, 18 June
Lmao, I know I was at work in labor. I didn't know since I was induced with my son. I had no clue how it all worked. But I couldn't leave my sister @ the airport.

Kenya is so happy. She feels "worthless" because she can't feed the baby. She wants to feed her so I have to pump Not fun.

raynbowmami - Tuesday, 17 June
So peaceful. LOL oh why don't they stay that way.

raynbowmami - Tuesday, 17 June
Ok got the pics and birth story up finally.

raynbowmami - Monday, 16 June
I sure did. I had her Friday 529pm. As soon as I can get through responding to all 27 messages I'll post the birth story. It was one crazy day.

cherbear - Tuesday, 10 June
Congrats!

mplsmama - Tuesday, 10 June
Hey, I just read your birth story -- what a cool story! Sounds like overall it was a pretty easy birth, minus the tear. Hope you're healing ok.
I am BF'ing... and I will tell you that I've had some difficulty w/ it, but I have stuck w/ it and I'm sooooo glad I did. My one piece of advice is to drink a LOT of water to help your milk come in. Mine didn't hurt one bit when it came in. In fact that only way I knew it was in is my gown was wet. I don't know if you have access to a lactation consultant in the hosp, but if you do, take advantage of them! They are miracle workers! We saw one in the hosp, and then I continued to have problems... I can totally relate to the soreness problem! For me it was due to a bad latch. I've seen the lactation consultant 2x on an outpatient basis, and as of yesterday, I was pretty much ready to give up bf'ing b/c it was hurting so bad when she latched & fed... but she gave me a contraption called a nipple shield, and I'm a new woman. Feedings have been amazing ever since. So... hang in there, take advantage of the help that's available to you, b/c I think it's so worth it if you can make it work. It definitely can be challenging. Keep me posted on what's going on! Again, congrats to you & your hubby!

Peanuts-Mom - Tuesday, 10 June
CONGRAULATIONS ON your BABY, VERY PRECIOUS!

cherbear - Tuesday, 10 June
I work for Egg Harbor Twp. Police. It is near Atlantic City. (You may have heard about the 4 prostitutes that were killed about a year ago...that was in our town..) Mine is also a great department--but the way it works here in Jersey..I can't use FMLA....unless I were to use up ALL of my vacation and/or sick time first... (That may change as of next year...) I unfortunately have to go back at the end of summer. I'm using 6 weeks sick--then 5 weeks vacation.. (They're sending me to a class in July so I'll actually save a week there..) I completely understand wanting to stay home... I wish I could also. In our line of work though--it is IMPOSSIBLE!! Just hoping I can figure out my child care situation before the end of summer. I really don't want to do day care!

futuramama - Tuesday, 10 June
Congrats on y/ new arrival.....

mplsmama - Tuesday, 10 June
Hey, I just saw your post! CONGRATS!!!! I'm so excited for you. You had a girl, too, huh? Did you have a hunch you were having a girl? Can't wait to hear how it's going for you!

missyh - Tuesday, 10 June
Hey there! CONGRATS!!! How has the breastfeeding been going? I know you were a little nervouse about it, did you end up trying to? I'm so happy for you and your new family! Keep in touch!

cherbear - Sunday, 8 June
Hey-- I'm also a police officer....... Just curious as to whether or not your department had maternity leave.... Mine doesn't-- I had to use sick and vacation time I saved for years......... Good luck with the little one! Hopefully we'll both go soon!

mplsmama - Friday, 6 June
Hey there, thanks! That's so funny that your husband got such a kick out of our birth story! Yeah, my husband was so excited to be the "announcer." We actually got the birth on video [just the part of them actually lifting her out] so we have it on tape of him saying "it's a girl" all surprised, and you can hear all of the dr's laughing. It's just priceless. I can't wait for you to have yours now! I cannot even begin to tell you how amazing it feels to be a mom. I absolutely love every last moment. I just cry and thank God for blessing us sometimes! I feel so blessed. These dang hormones don't help the cause either. ;} Keep me posted... can't wait to hear your big news... can't be too much longer!

mplsmama - Thursday, 29 May
Hey there, glad to hear you got your furniture! It's cool to have things coming together, isn't it?
Yeah, I plan on breastfeeding... it's just a matter of how long. I will definitely breastfeed while I'm home for 12 wks, but I swear I have no idea how I'm going to pump while I'm in court. I was in court yesterday until 3 pm... didn't even get a lunch break. I just don't think it's feasible for me to pump as long as I'm in court... and I think you get "engorged" if you don't pump enough, don't you? I have so much to learn! But if I can figure out a way to keep pumping, I'd like to breastfeed for as long as possible. We actually went to a breastfeeding class... did you go to one? It was really helpful.
Yeah, I'm having the c-section b/c of the baby's size. It's not so much the size, as it is the fact that the belly is measuring 3 wks ahead of the rest of the body. My dr says big belly means big shoulders, which is where you start running into complications w/ shoulders getting stuck, etc. My dr estimates at least 1O lbs if I went to 4O wks. So a scheduled c-section was really not my 1st choice, but I've come to realize it's the safest way to ensure my baby gets here safely, which is obviously my ultimate goal! I found out today that I may have to wait until June 1Oth though. Honestly, I just wanted it done sooner so I can stop working! I'm sooooo sick of working right now! Oh, and I can totally see why you'd want your baby to hold on until after your case! That's not a stupid reason at all! I know how those things can drag, and I can totally see why you'd want to just get it over with.
Keep me posted! Just think, we could really go any day now! :}

sariann - Thursday, 29 May
first off congrats on expecting! I nursed both of my sons, my first was not a harty nurser and had to be supplimented with formula. My second was exclusively breastfed . I think having a good support system is key. Drink tons of water and the more you nurse the more milk you will produce. Your nipples can get a little sore but it gets better after time. It shouldn't hurt when you are nursing though, if the baby is latching on to shallow it will hurt. I would talk to a lactation consultant at the hospital or some Dr.'s office obgyn offer this too. Don't give up, the first two weeks are difficult but I swear it gets easier. Best wish in your success!!

preciousangels2 - Wednesday, 28 May
I breastfed my first son pretty easily. My nipples got a little sore but nothing I couldn't deal with it. I produced plenty of milk for him, the more your baby nurses, the more milk you'll produce. The only problem I had was that after 2 months I had to ad some formula feedings in every now and then because my little man wanted to eat every 45mins. Formula is more filling that breast milk. With the breast milk the baby will USUALLY want to eat every 2hrs. With formula it's about 3-4hrs. That and I didn't get ANY sleep because hubby couldn't get up to feed since I was breastfeeding and I wasn't pumping. So I would def. suggest that you pump a bit during the day so that someone else can feed the little one while you get some much needed sleep. Good luck!!! Hope I eased your mind some!

mplsmama - Wednesday, 28 May
Hey, how are you doing? Can you believe the end is in sight? Have you felt any signs of labor or anything? I haven't! I swear I don't have a single sign... oh well!
I actually will probably end up w/ a c-section... baby is measuring very large & dr has some concerns about me delivering vaginally. The hosp has to call me back to schedule it, but we're hoping to schedule it 6/6... which is next Friday! Isn't that crazy? I can't believe this journey is almost over!
Did you ever get your baby furniture?
