Hello everyone! I am new to the site and a little late in joining I guess. A little about my pregnancy...this is actually my second, but first successful one. My first pregnancy ended in an unexpected loss at 17 wks due to an incompetent cervix. This pregnancy has been smooth sailing and uneventful until my 22nd week. During a routine (I was going every 2 wks) ultrasound we discovered my cervix shortened and funneled from 3.7cm to 1.1 cm. We decided on an emergency cerclage (stitch in the cervix). During surgery the doctor discovered I had dialated to 1 cm. Long story short, a month later I am on modified/strict bed rest and going strong! Bed rest (house arrest) is no fun by all means but necessary. I know the end result will be WELL WORTH IT!

I just got back from an ultrasound and although it wasn't too bad it wasn't great either. My cervix went from a 1.1cm to .70cm! UGH! The tech couldn't find the stitch but I just don't think she knew what she was doing, I got a bad vibe from her to begin with. Anyone suffering from an incompetent cervix knows that your cervix is checked transvaginally. I asked her if I should get undressed from the waist down right from the beginning and she said she would check for it transabdominally. Yeah right I thought to myself. As I suspected I had to undress like I told her from the beginning. I know that the doctor placed the stitch very low or tip of my cervix because of the way it looked from the u/s. Anyway on today's u/s I couldn't even see the tip of my cervix. Also I don't the cercalge came undone because it's pretty hard to miss. I saw what it looked like before the doctor placed it in and I felt him tying it and I could feel him tugging pretty hard. Not to mention that everyone in the hospital gives my doctor kudos when it comes to cerclages. As he put it, "cerclages are his thing." So I'm confident w/ his work. Anyway, the perinatologist in the office told me at this point to keep up w/ my bed rest and we should shoot for 32 wks, although the baby is perfectly capable of surviving outside the womb w/o any major problems. I'm trying to be positive and hopeful! Thank you all for your support. I will keep everyone posted. Oh btw, my baby boy is weighing 2.7 lbs. Woo hoo, gotta keep feeding him so he can pack on a few pounds just in case.

Today we had an ultrasound in the morning and appt. w/ the high risk doctor in the afternoon. The u/s pretty much looked the same as it usually does, cervix still the same length, and the stitch was somewhere in limbo and couldn't be seen. The lovely tech which dear hubby and I weren't crazy about from out last u/s tells us that my fluid levels are a little low. She then tells us that they are trying to get us an appt w/ the high risk doctor, which we already had. Of course now I'm scared and start to worry. Forward to my afternoon appt:: After waiting for what seemed like an eternity for the doctor to arrive he does an internal exam to "search" for the infamous missing stitch. He found the stitch and a cervix that is dilated 3 cm. The stitch somehow became loose and isn't all the way around my cervix. He admitted me and I am currently in the hospital until 32 wks on complete bed rest! Needless to say hubby and I spent New Years at the hospital and this will be home until the 3rd week of January. They are keeping me here just to be on the safe side, just in case I go into labor. I already received 2 rounds of steroids for the baby's lungs and some antibiotics to prevent infection. I'm bored out of my mind and the bed rest is taking it's toll on my body. I get soo dizzy and light headed when I get out bed and my legs are mush. Also, sleeping and moving around while sleeping in a Trendelenburg position ( feet above your head on a slant) is not fun nor comfy. Hubby has been 500% FANTASTIC! Let me just put it this way he is my personal nurse! The nurses know him and love him because he pretty much does their job for them except IV's. LOL

Latest update: Doctor came in today and said I will most likely go home on Thursday depending if there isn't any change in my cervix. They are going to remove the stitch because at this point it really isn't doing anything since I already dilated to 3 cm. They don't want to risk tearing my cervix if I dilate anymore than I already have. Also they (ob and perinatologist) are going to discuss at home monitoring. So right now I'm just waiting.

January 17, 2008

Yay I am home! I never thought I would be so happy to be back home staring at my four walls, but I am. The doctors are happy that I made it this far. In her words, "32 wks for us is full term." I guess when you work in a high risk pregnancy hospital you get used to seeing preemies born at 20 something wks. I am happy that we made it this far. There has been no change to my cervix, it's still at 3cm and posterior. A posterior cervix means that it doesn't show any signs of labor and is in a resting phase. Woo hoo!

January 24, 2008

I had a doctor's appointment today and I have to say that it went well. The doctor will be removing the stitch in 2 wks!! Since I'm already dilated to 3 cm he said it's basically me doing most of the work at this point, with the bed rest. I also believe that the progesterone shots have helped out a great deal. I feel like someone who is in jail and just got notice that they will be set free in 2 wks!

On another note I went for a 3/4D ultrasound and we couldn't get good pictures. At 33 wks the baby has less room to move around and less fluid. Basically his face is smooshed against the placenta. The original plan was to have the scan a month ago but we all know where I was, in the Hotel Hospital...lol. You could see some features but they weren't great. He has chubby cheeks that's for sure, the tech laughed and pointed them out.

My family is in the process of planning a babyshower but who knows how that will go because of how everything is going. I've been on bed rest for 12 wks, I'm 3cm dilated, and my stitch comes out in 2 wks. As my luck will have it I will go into labor on the day of the shower. This bed rest thing has thrown a wrench in planning anything BUT it has served it's purpose, which is to get baby to term or close to it. So everything else is just an extra. I just want to get everything in order now. I HATE DELEGATING FROM BED! LOL I know where things are and how I want them but it's like when you have someone scratch your back they can't get it quite like you would. Does that makes sense? Haha

See how my baby is doing

Wednesday, 30 Jan
I had an ultrasound yesterday and all looks well. The tech said baby weighs about 4lbs 10 oz and is breathing just fine. I have an appt on Thursday, you know the usual, weight gain, pressure, urine, and baby `s heartbeat. I `m sure they will schedule the date to have my cerclage removed. I can `t wait, not that it will make a difference at this point since it `s already loose and I `m dilated to 3, maybe even more at this point. I will be sooooo happy if I make it to 37 wks and the baby weighs 6lbs +. As long as he is healthy that `s all that matters. I am so ready to meet my baby. I can almost feel him in my arms! Ugh what a great feeling. I love him so much.

I am simply bored out of my mind! I am feeling more anxious now because my stitch is going to be removed next week. I can `t stand looking at these 4 walls a minute longer. I don `t have anything ready (nursery wise), so that is really bothering me. Just venting.

Friday, 8 Feb

WOOOO HOOOO! Got my stitch out today, exactly 35 wks on the nose. I thought it would hurt but it didn `t. Surprise, surprise. I `m also off of bedrest!!!! I was monitored for half an hour NST after the removal and no activity was shown by my uterus. Baby was moving around nicely and heart rate was within the normal range. I think tomorrow I will go get my nails done. I `m so excited and nervous at the same time. Oh yeah I kept my stitch as a reminder of what kept my baby from entering the world prematurely or even losing him. For those of you that are curious it looks like the ties that keep the bread bag closed only thicker and longer. Did I mention that I am scared and anxious? Well I am.

Thursday, 14 Feb

Latest update: I had a doctor `s appt today. Well the baby has already dropped and I `m starting to feel pressure in the front and back. I don `t think my water has broken because it doesn `t always gush out, but I do have an increase in discharge (GROSS). If there is something that I am NOT going to miss is that. I `m not even nervous, just anxious!!! Also baby `s movements have slowed down a bit so I think today or tomorrow might be it.

hi there! Congrats on your baby! not sure if you remember me, but you were very inspirational when I lost my baby George in FEB. I wanted to check in with you and see how it turned out and I am so happy for you! also, I just was shocked this morning as I took a HPT and it was a BFP!!! wish me luck this time!

MommyJewels - Thursday, 8 May
Thank you sweetie! How are you?

vy - Thursday, 10 April
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Every twinge, pain, and discharge makes me so worried and anxious. Congrats on your baby!

socalgal - Thursday, 3 April
I am doing great. My doctor says she trusts me to monitor my own activities, so at this point I am in bed when I feel like it and active when I feel like it. It's so fun! I am still in bed the majority of the time, but I have been able to have dates with my hubby, attend mass, have lunch with friends. . . Basically live a wonderful life!

Sorry you are having trouble nursing. Is it because Carlos was still a little early? Is it because he had to be in the NICU for a week? Why did they keep him that week? That is the one thing I am worried about at this point. I know the baby would be just fine at 33 weeks (and she has been measuring a week ahead for a couple of months), but I really want her to nurse immediately and come home in 24 hours like my son did. He loved nursing so much that he refused to drink out of a bottle and has never had one in his whole life! I hope to share that special bond with my little girl too.

Hi Cosita,

Great to hear from you! I have been thinking of you and recently checked your page to see if you have posted an update. I would love to hear how you and little Carlos are doing.

I will be 32 weeks tomorrow. Woo Hoo! I remember thinking that sounded like an impossible goal at first, and here I am, still baking away!

Mommyjewels - Tuesday, 25 Mar

hoosiermommy - Wednesday, 27 Feb

ktpregers - Monday, 25 Feb
Many congrats on your new little one! how big is Carlos? I have to tell you that you have given me hope that I will be able to have another child in the future. We burried our little George on Thurs. and it was the hardest thing I have done, but now we have the future to look forward to. Oh, did you have a vaginal or C-section? I am meeting with the docs in a couple of weeks to talk about the next time around and I will let you now how it goes. Enjoy Carlos...they grow up so fast!!

preggersagain - Monday, 25 Feb
OMG! CONGRATS!! I figured that is why you hadn't been online for a few days! Did you have a c-section or vaginal delivery? It sounds like Carlos is making a quick recovery! Did he have a chest tube for his lung? I know, lots of questions...sorry its so exciting! How big was he? Thanks for being so understanding with all this, its just all been so weird, you know? Not to mention the hormones and the added stress of having a baby in the NICU, as you can understand. Anyway, Bryson is doing so well and he is so amazing. I am so lucky to have him here with us as part of our family. Are you still in the hospital or are you at home now. The worst day ever was the day I had to leave the hospital to come home WITHOUT my baby, which is probably what you are going through right now. If you need to talk or vent about it please know I understand! I was a mess! That was so hard. He was there for almost three weeks and it really sucked. The only thing that was nice was that he came home already on a schedule with his feedings! The best feeling in the world was the day we were able to bring him home. So they are saying Tuesday? Are you bottle feeding or breast feeding? When was he born? I wish we lived by each other so we could get together with our boys! I am so happy for you and your husband, you guys went through alot to bring your son into this world and you did it! You made it through one hell of a pregnancy and now you have a perfect little man to bring home and be part of your family! Congrats! Please stay in touch!

ssandifer812 - Monday, 25 Feb

preggersagain - Tuesday, 19 Feb
HI girl! I know I have been away for a while, its been hard to come back to this site for some reason for me since I had the baby. I kind of feel like I was robbed out of the last part of my pregnancy and the part I did get to have was pretty miserable! So it was hard to come back and see how happy and excited everyone was...does that make any sense? Anyway, Bryson is doing so great, we got to bring him home last week. It is amazing to finally be able to hold him! Just wait! Get excited, only a few more weeks for you (or maybe days!) you did it!! Let me know when he comes out!
