OK YOUR PROBLEM SOUNDS A LOT LIKE MINE, I HAD A FEVOR LAST WEEK OF 101.5, THE CHILLS, AND OUCH MY NIPPLES HURT, AND STILL HURT SO BAD...WHEN I GET THE CHILLS, OMG THE WORST PAIN I THE WORLD!! I'M ON ANTIBIOTICS BUT IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE WORKING WHAT SO EVER....I CRINGE EVERYTIME HE LATCHES ON AND SOMETIMES CRY. I HAVEN'T TRIED PUMPING YET, BUT I ALMOST BROKE DOWN AND GAVE HIM FORMULA....I AM SO LOST, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!

littlecavalier - Tuesday, 13 May
Regardless of whether or not your baby is actually latching on, you are still breastfeeding even if it's pumped and given to him by a bottle. I haven't had mastitis but I did have a clogged duct and have had thrush a couple times so I can only imagine adding the flu like symptoms of mastitis onto that! It will get better though and breastfeeding will get easier. A lot of women choose to pump and give their babies bottles. It is a lot more time consuming than just strictly breastfeeding but it does give you a little bit more flexibility. If you do decide to just pump you might want to read up on ways to keep up your milk supply. Babies are much better than pumps at getting the milk out and if you don't pump religiously your milk supply will decrease. Do whatever you feel is best for you and your son, I do promise though that if you stick with it it will get better!

I saw your pictures in the photo album and I think your baby is precious! I laughed though, I have a 5 month old son named Dylan Jack..very close to your baby's name!! Enjoy your son, they grow fast and change daily!

Evans congestion comes and goes, they keep telling me to use the humidifer and that its normal. As for the spitting up, it started when he was about 2 week old. Hes steadily gaining weight, but i still feel bad for him. Sometimes it even comes out of his nose :(.Docs say its normal and should start going away soon. And since i have him on cereal its been better. I waited until he was 3 and a half months until i gave him the cereal in the bot. The doc told me to do it at two months, but everything i read on it didnt sound that good. They say their systems arent really ready for it that early and could cause GI problems. not something i was willing to risk. Evans levels finally went down after a few at home visit from nurses poking and prodding him and constant visis to the peds. it was scary im glad its over. As for knowing hes a little late on stuff, there are certain milestones each month your baby should be doing. Like smiling on purpose, holding their head up etc. and he eventually gets them, it just takes longer for him. But its not that drastic, only a mother would notice lol. well take care talk to ya soon!

Evans jaundice was pretty bad, He had to be put onto the Walabee Blanket" but he luckily got to do it at home. I would have been a mess if they kept him! How big was your baby? Evan was 7 lbs 7 oz pretty big for being born in the 35th week, He is doing well now. He has acid reflux and is constantly spitting up, and for the first month he was out, all he did was sleep. He also is a little behind with developments. He started smiling late, im still waiting for him to give me a good laugh. but other then that he is the best little baby. Very happy and really starting to get a personality.

Wow, that's pretty early and you can't tell at all. He would have been a big baby if he would have stayed in there!!

Hey there, It is recommended that breastfeeding is well established, around after 4 weeks, before introducing the bottle. Check this site out for nipple confussion informatio. http://www.mother-2-mother.com/nippleconfusiontruth.htm

Hello I read your message in the breastfeeding forum.. my daughter is 10 days old and drinks breast milk that is bottled .. her dad feeds her by bottle and I feed her from the breast.. at first she fussed not wanting my breast but now she has gotten use to both the bottle and breast with no problems.. I just have my husband feed her the bottle so she knows when she is in my arms it is just the straight breastfeeding.. I don't see why you shouldn't give it a try.. it takes time but he will get use to the fact and have no issues.. even during the time she fussed at me for a few days I pumped out the milk while hubby fed her... take care and congrats on the little one! :0)

In my breastfeeding class I was told not to introduce a bottle until my baby was four weeks old, but to introduce a bottle no later than 6 weeks because some babies will refuse to take it. My baby latched on really well and was a good eater so we tried at ten days and have had no problems. She is now 9 weeks old and has been getting 1 bottle everyday from dad :) Hope that helps, if I can help with anything else let me know. Also, there are bottles (Browns I believe is one) that you can get that mimic that of a real nipple. meaning that they need to work harder to get the milk. I do not use these, but you can always try them if your worried.

Hi !

Saw your question on the breastfeeding page. My daughter is a week old, and i was determined to nurse exclusively. Then she developed jaundice and needed to be fed quite often. Breastfed baby are said to have a harder time fighting jaundice because they aren't getting as much of an intake as formula fed babies. Completely frustrated, the nurse at the hosp talked me into nursing her and then giving her an ounce of formula, and that " nipple confusion does not exist" . Well it does. It was very difficult to get her back on the breast after that. Only way to get her back on the breast was to use a nipple gaurd and those were a pain in the butt. So now I'm just pumping and giving it to her that way. In a way I'm kinda used to it now! This way my husband can help feed, and my nipples don't hurt anymore! hope this helps!

It's hard to find. You may have to go to a speciality grocery store, or an organic market if you have one. You could also probably order it offline with rush delievery. I'm not too good to ask. I looked for it once, in my local grocery store, and couldn't find it. There's a holistic wellness center in town I may try next. Good luck. :-)

Hi hon I'm in the same boat as you re wanting to express some so that hubby can also feed baby. I bought my pump yesterday. It's the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature range, and I bought two bottles, called To Breast and Back Again (the teat itself actually mimics the shape and feel of the breast), Stage 1, which allows for slow to medium milk flow, the idea being baby has to work for that milk too, so shouldn't have a problem going from the breast to the bottle and back again. I tested the cup last night and it's SUPER comfortable, even for a hand pump (I was not going to spend hundreds on an electric one). But in their info pamphlet they say NOT to do it (other than to relieve engorged breasts) for the first 4 weeks, because even with their technology, baby might be put off the breast after that. So after 4 weeks, I'll be expressing my first bottle and getting Jay to feed him, and then will make the next feed breast, and see how that goes... will be speaking to my midwife/consultant first as well, and will let you know how it goes?

Congrats and all the best!

Hi there, in regards to feeding baby from bottle I was always told to wait at least 6wks, I personally waited 4 1/2wks with my baby this time because my last daughter would not take a bottle ever, she went right to a sippy cup so I was hoping this time I could switch between breast and bottle, again no such luck. This one won't take a bottle either, I wish you the best of luck with your baby.
