the stripping is uncomfortable at most..not bad at all, basically it kind of felt like she was scraping my insides, lots of pressure though, kind of like you are on your period while she does it...there was spotting afterwards (which she told me would happen) and it is supposed to help your cervix efface quicker and start some contractions...we will see. I feel fine, no big contractions yet, still a little spotty, but nothing too serious..hopefully he comes out soon! Hope this helps answer your question :)

It's a hard decision but I'm being induced because the baby will be too big to deliver vaginally and I DO NOT want a c-section.

As far as the gel goes - this isn't my first child so doc says I won't need the gel. I'm only 1 1/2 cm dialted and as still thick at my last appointment... he thinks that stripping my membranes will be enough to ripen my cervix enough for induction.

I was induced with all three of my boys. Only had the pitocin for the last one - the rest all we needed to do was break my water and nature took its course right after that. The pitocin labor was definately harder but it was very quick! I guess it's to each his own on what is preferrable.

I'm being induced on Friday and doctor is having me come in Thursday for a membrane sweep. After I got off the phone I realized I didn't know what time to go to the hospital so I called back and got the nurse this time... She told me that the doctor usualy doesn't schedule with the hospital until you are there. Just an FYI - most hospitals want you there either the night before (only if you need to have the Cervidol inserted into your cervix to help ripen it - which I don't need I guess) or VERY early in the morning... Per the nurse I will have to be at hospital before 7AM. It's 40 minute drive for me... UGH!!! I'd just normally be getting to sleep around then!!!! (I'm one of the insomniacs!! LOL

Def, let m know , I don't know how I can even see a dentist with no insurance, I don't care if they just rip it out, It just hurts soo bad and I can't imagine having tooth pain like this when I am in labor or caring for a newborn , I wonder if Blue cross will pay cuz it's an emergency.

MariaC - Monday, 5 May
Happy Birthday!!!! xXx

So sorry about the painful tooth! A couple of months ago I had a BAD toothache and had to undergo a root canal. They found an infection in the tooth and I had to take antibiotics for a couple weeks before they could finish up work with the tooth. It was horrible, but the infection had to be dealt with or it could spread to the baby. There are some antibiotics that are very safe to take during pregnancy. I discussed the prescription with my Dr before I got it filled to make sure it was OK......wish I could remember what it was called. But tell your care giver and then follow their advice. Good luck - hope it feels better soon!

hey i read your post about your tooth! The SAME thing happened to me turns out i had an infection in my gums and had to have an EMERGENCY procedure to clear it out. They put me on antibiotics but no pain killers and THANK GOD it cleared it all up. The doctor told me that if i would have waited any longer the infection could have reached and harmed the baby (but i was having problems w/ this tooth for a long time) hope everything works out!!!

prego1018 - Sunday, 4 May
Yeah, call someone today about that tooth, and get that tooth checked out ASAP! Obviously infections aren't good for you or the baby, but I watched one of those birthing shows where this ladies gums or tooth got infected and it was a huge deal. I wished I payed more attention to it to better answer your question, but I would seek some real medical advice now if I were you. Don't want to scare you, but I just remember this being a thing on those delivery shows.

MariaC - Sunday, 4 May
You need to go see a dentist a.s.a.p. in case it's turned into an abscess, I don't know if it can harm baby but it could harm you, let us know how you go. xXx

Grace - Sunday, 4 May
They can probably give you antibiotics, and maybe some pain meds but i don't know that you would want them digging in your mouth until after the baby gets here so that they can give you something to numb you real good and gas. Some pain killers aren't harmful to the baby, although the baby may feel some of the effects. Hope this helps but I'm no doc.

Thanks for the comments on bipolar. It sucks, sorry if you have the same symptoms. Since being off my meds during pregnancy, I have accumulated criminal charges for stealing votive candles during a manic state. I don't remember doing it, but they had it on camera. I also got permanently kicked out of our local hospital for verbally bashing a nurse. I was horrified when I heard what they said I said. I hope your pregnancy is going well. vent at me anytime!

luvmy-buninoven - Friday, 25 April
ohhh YUMMY!! haha. Well you know, what I did is I went and gambled 5 dollars with my girlfriend, that helped (even though it was just last week how funny!), and you can always walk into a bar and order something virgin lmao, hmmmm I kinda like that idea! (do we really trust the bartenders though?)

bigmommat - Friday, 25 April
i dunno i looked it up and that is what the page said so im just going from that .... most bottles are made from the higher numbers, i noticed tho that water bottles that we drink from are mostly ones but the lids are 2's
let me know if you find something different

luvmy-buninoven - Friday, 25 April
Try not to feel too bad. My birthday was Dec 15th, I turned 21. We had to move that day and I had to watch my b/f's son that night when he went to work, plus I was like 3 or 4 months pregnant....and we live in Las Vegas (go figure), Can't wait till about June to go hit up the scenes! HAHA.

nancy26 - Wednesday, 23 April
Thank you SO much for your kind words, heavens for a minute there I thought I was going to go insane and just claw this baby out of me to take something :( So pleased to hear you recovered okay though! I was on antibiotics about 3 weeks ago for a mild chest infection - talk about guilt trip every time I took one! lol thank you so much again, it means so much to have so much support!

MariaC - Wednesday, 23 April
Ahhhh, I see, we call it a membrane sweep here in the UK!! I've never heard anything bad said about it though so I wouldn't worry too much. Obviously if someone (and not in a good way!!) is going to have their hand that far up it's bound to be uncomfy but I've never heard it hurts or anything!!!

They don't do internal examinations here in the UK unless it's completely necessary so this sweep thing must really work.

Let me know how it goes!! xXx

P.s. I think sweep sounds better too!!! LOL!! xXx

MOMMI~NICOLE - Tuesday, 22 April
Membrane stripping is a practice that has been done mainly by midwives to naturally induce labor. What happens is the doctor or midwife sticks a finger into your cervix and kind of "roto-rooters" the sac, or bag of waters from your cervix to detach it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It worked with my daughter, i was in false labor on her due date and my water broke that night after they did it in the office that morning. Could be coincidence though. With both my boys, they were overdue and I had the doc strip my membranes several times, and nothing happened. It cause menstrual-like cramping and some possible spotting...not too bad. Good luck!!

leonie3 - Tuesday, 22 April
I had mine done with my 3rd child as my waters had broken and no labour started so had to go back to hospital for membrane sweep that never worked just made me more uncomfortable than i already was. i had induction next day.

cjmc2577 - Tuesday, 22 April
it never worked for either of mine. i was induced for both. Good Luck!!

newmom4 - Tuesday, 22 April
As far as having your membranes stripped it doesn't always work. With my 2nd and 3rd I had mine stripped about a week before my due date the dr thought I would go into labor that night....both were late. Oh well, this is my 4th and I'm pretty sure he'll come early. Good luck to you.

momofboys - Monday, 21 April
I was reading about your MIL being fake to your face. LOL! Mine is the same & always to busy to spend time with the kids & when she does they just sit in the house. She is a bragger about the kids yet doesn't even know them.
