Well, I am kind of new to this site, but I love talking to other women who are in the same boat that I am! This is my first pregnancy, and there is so much that I don't understand. My husband and I moved to Lexington a little more than a year ago to attend the University of Kentucky. We moved from Fort Campbell, Ky where we spent the first six years of our marriage. Once he got out of the Army, we decided to further our education so we could get a good job and maybe consider trying to start a family. For almost seven years of marriage, we never used any contraceptive (unless you count 3 deployments overseas as such!) and were actually thinking we wouldn't be able to have children. Then suddenly, at the most inconvenient possible time, I found myself pregnant. So while I am now having to postpone my education (again), we are very happy that this miracle has happened. Although I am not a baby person really, I am growing more excited about this baby every day. And, the best part is, we got what we wanted-- a boy! My husband and I both think they have much cooler toys. :) I love sharing thoughts and information with you all, and look forward to the coming weeks. Good luck, ladies!

October 5, 2007

Today, before work, I decided to take a pregnancy test to see if it could explain why I was "late." I'm never late, ever. The test was 2 years expired, digital, and came up positive in seconds. I was all alone in the house at the time, and completely stunned, as all I could do was say "What!?!" I went by Jesse's workplace on my way in to work and told him the news. I was so upset, because it wasn't expected, planned, or even thought possible. Besides, I have things I want to accomplish before I have a kid! I bought a couple of new tests and took one of each at work (I work in a lab). Both came back positive. I didn't say much the rest of the night. Maybe the tests were wrong-- I'm not ready to be a mom yet!

November 13, 20007

I had my first appointment with the doctor today. I'm very choosy as to who I will see. This clinic is all-female, so the doctor that delivers the baby will definately be a woman. I like that idea. I saw the only nurse practitioner at the clinic, and she was very friendly. They gave me an ultrasound first thing (rather than urine test, to see if you're actually pregnant). Jesse went with me, and we sat in this dark room with the ultrasound tech, and heard the heartbeat for the first time. I can't explain how wonderful it was. I was so afraid that I was wrong about being pregnant, or that something wasn't quite right. Sometimes, out of fear, I was hoping something was wrong, but when I heard the heartbeat and saw that little bean on the screen, everything changed. Jesse was holding my hand and I almost teared up. He just smiled back at me. I found out that everything looks good, and I am 12 weeks and a day. I'm still worried about everything, because we are trying to get health insurance, but I'm sure all will turn out okay. I still can't believe that we made a baby together. What a miracle.

December 20, 2007

Well, I'm getting more used to being pregnant now. I am 17 1/2 weeks pregnant today. I had my second appointment. Today I found out that I am Rh-negative. However, I don't have to get a Rhogham shot because Jesse is also Rh-negative. I'm glad that's something I don't have to worry about. So we decided that we wanted another ultrasound, but they didn't want to do one this time. We had to put our appointment off because we were getting insurance through Jesse's work. Well, they rescheduled us for the same NP we saw before, but she was already booked full. So, I insisted on the ultrasound to try to find out the sex (for Christmas and all), but we weren't so lucky. Baby is still too small to see for sure. Everything looks good on him so far. We had to wait 3 hours to see a doc, and the one we saw just kind of slid us into her schedule. She had just come from delivering a baby and popped into our room. I like this lady much more, and she is an actual doctor. We made our next appointment with her. I hope next time we can tell the sex. For now, I will take home these ultrasound pics and show the family over the holidays just how much baby looks like a "who." Aww, I have a who-baby for Christmas.

January 17, 2008

Today I had my "20-week ultrasound" (although I'm 21 1/2 weeks). I was so excited! We finally got to find out the sex of our little "who." We are having a boy! Jesse and I are both so happy, as we really wanted to have a boy. Sure, a girl would've been cool, too, but we're both better-suited for raising a boy, I think. We keep passing each other in the hallway saying "We're gonna have a boy" with this huge grin on our faces. Now, we just have to choose a name. I'm so happy!

February 18, 2008

26 weeks today, right on the money. I'm still seeing the same doctor, and becoming pretty comfortable with her. I've been having some pressure at the lower part of my uterus, and was concerned. She checked me and said all looks good and that I'm not dialated at all. Good to know! I also had to go in for the glucose testing today before my appointment. I really hope that my levels aren't too high. I'm measuring 28 cm today and baby's heartrate is fair, around 133 hb/min. Hubby couldn't make it to the appointment today because of school, but I made the next appointment at a time that's good for him. I can't wait to be in the 3rd trimester. Also, we have picked out our nursery furniture. I am very excited to get the room set up for our little boy. I hope our order comes in soon.

March 1, 2008

My mom and step-dad decided to make a trip up to Lexington a week earlier than planned. What a nice suprise. Today mom went shopping with me and bought us our swing and play yard. She also bought some baby clothes and a football coin bank for the dresser. This baby is going to be so spoiled. I can hardly wait until the rest of the bedroom furniture comes in so we can set up the room.

March 13, 2008

Well today we got the bedding my mom ordered for us. Its so cute.. its theme is planes, trains, cars, and helicopters. Its in bold colors, and has some cute gingham patterns, too. We love it so much. Now I hope I can get hubby to paint the bedroom! Still waiting on our crib to come in, and we need to buy a mattress. I'm really getting excited for baby now.

March 18, 2008

Today we went to our 30-week appointment. From now on, we will be seeing the doc every 2 weeks until we hit 36 weeks. Talk about making time fly by! I guess somehow my results from my glucose testing got lost, so she was going to have me get redrawn. So, my task today was to track down my results. I finally found them with the help of my boss-- someone had put my results under the wrong name. Of course, they used "Debra" instead of "Dedra." What a pain. I will make sure when naming my boy to not give him some strange name that's easily mistaken to be something else. Come to find out, I passed the glucose test! I was so afraid I wouldn't, whew! I had to get a Non-stress test done today because I haven't been noticing as much movement. I guess doc was looking for "accelerations" in the heartbeat, so she left me hooked up for about an hour! Then, she went ahead and sent me in for an ultrasound to make sure all is okay. Baby is 3.5 lbs and I'm measuring 31 cm... sounds like I'm a week ahead of schedule.

April 1, 2008

Another doctor appointment today. Not much going on, just the basics-- urine sample, weight, BP, baby's heartrate, and measurement. Heartrate is about 140 hb/min, so that's good. I'm measuring 33 cm, so still about a week ahead. Since I've been having sharp, stabbing pains at the very bottom of my uterus, she checked me to make sure I'm sealed up good, which I am. Doc says not to be concerned about the pains unless they don't cease after a couple of seconds. Also, she says the swelling I've been feeling in my hands is normal, and also seeing spots if I move too quickly. She doesn't seem concerned that I've got any abnormal symptoms. I'm guessing my iron levels are good, and also that my urine samples are normal, since she hasn't mentioned them. I'm getting tired of being pregnant now, since I'm starting to get the weird symptoms. I might start sleeping in the recliner.

April 15, 2008

Back to the doc today. I am 34 1/7 weeks. Everything seems fine, BP top reading was a little high, but no cause for concern. Found out that all bloodwork in fact is fine, as well as my urine samples. Lucky that I haven't experienced much swelling at all, except for in my hands. Been feeling a bruised, sometimes sharp pain down by my hootie-hoo, but doc explained its just the pelvic bones separating in preparation for labor. Its bearable, so I'm good. Not too much back pain since I've been home from work. Been feeling baby move pretty good these days-- he's stretching alot and its so cool to see him move from outside the belly! It looks like a little alien is inside of me.. haha! Jesse didn't make it to this appointment, but then again, he didnt miss much. Its getting very close now, so I won't be making many more long-distance trips. I have one more to make this weekend, for my baby brother's wedding shower, but that will be it until his wedding in June (if baby is here by then!). I'm looking forward to my last visit with the family before I'm a mommy.

April 29, 2008

My 36 week appointment was today. My doc was on vacation this week so I got to see the new NP/midwife. She did the strep B test and checked my cervix to see if I was dialated at all. Unfortunately, she said that I MIGHT have been 1/4 cm dialated. I told her that I hadn't felt baby move much so far today, so I had another NST done. He seems to be doing just fine. I was hoping they'd send me on in for an ultrasound, but no such luck. I also had my final blood test for HIV done (just to be sure since I'm not at the lab anymore). Jesse went with me today, which was nice, but I didn't really need him to be there since I didn't even get faint after getting my blood drawn. I'm so proud of myself! Well, now I will be going to the doc weekly. I have the nursery pretty much set up now, except for painting (if we get around to it in time) and maybe hanging up some stuff on the walls. I also have yet to wash the crib sheets, but thats an easy task. His bag is packed and mine is also for the most part. Now, the only things we have left to do are decide baby's middle name, find a pediatrician, and buy life insurance policies for Jesse and myself. Hopefully we will get that stuff done in the next week, and then its just the waiting game. Come on Logan, get here already!

May 20, 2008

Well, my last 3 appointments have been weekly. I saw Dr. Mitchell at 37 weeks, NP/MW at 38 weeks, and then Dr. Mitchell again at 39 weeks, which was today. She stripped my membranes, which hurt like HELL, and said I was still 1cm dialated (same as what I was told at 38 weeks). She gave me some hope by telling me that she'd done it for one girl yesterday and she went into labor today. I'm getting so excited about the baby coming, and I really hope that this works. Over the next couple of days, I'm really gonna do the sex thing and pineapple and walking as much as I can. I've tried my breast pump before and might try that again as well. I figure all of it doesn't hurt. Oh, yeah.. we had sex tonight and I lost my plug on hubby! He found it when he went to the bathroom to clean up. Too bad that he put it in the potty before I could see it. I kinda wanted to see what it looked like. Gross, huh? At least its progress. I hope that Logan comes this weekend so that the family can come up to visit. I can't wait to meet him.

May 21, 2008

Today I woke up and I was wet down there. I thought that maybe it was my water that broke, so I got up and called Jesse and then the clinic. It was on the sheets in kinda like droplets all spread out and my undies were wet, so I thought it could be it. Of course, I didn't wanna call my mom and get her all excited, so I decided to wait until after we got the verdict from the clinic. They told me to put on a panty liner and see if more came out. Well, from the membrane stripping, I couldn't tell what was what since I was already having discharge and what not. Well, they said to come on in and just as I'd figured, it was a false alarm. I saw NP/MW again and she said that it was probably the baby that had bumped my bladder really hard and made me leak some. I've not done it once yet, except for when I'd sneeze really hard, but I guess it could be what it was. I was kinda embarassed and bummed, but I guess I'll just have to wait.

How`s my pregnancy doing?

LOL! I bet that was fun to clean up! She's peed on our sheets too.. it shot at me! My mom took Alyvia up to see my step-grandma while I made dinner (there's an apartment high rise in the community I live in that g-ma lives in) and it's now 10pm, pitch black out... and she's still not back! Grrr. This is the first time she's gone w/o me, even though it's been like an hour.. I don't like it!

No, actually he was throwing up the enfamil lipil, I mean throwing up hard even it was coming out his nose, everything... that was within the first week, then we switched him to the soy formula, did ok for like a week, then I noticed blood in his stool! I called the dr and he said to give it the rest of the day, and if it continued to call him, it did and so he switched him to the enfamil nutramigen, which is hypoallergenic for protein allergies, the blood cleared up right away! It wasn't much to begin with but it scared the CRAP out of me. So, that's how we found out. It was very stressful and scary but all is well, it's been 3 weeks now and he's doing very well on it, not even gassy or colicy really. The dr does want to wean him back to cows milk when he's about 6 months because he said most babies grow out of the allergy and he doesn't want to assume he'll be allergic to everything lol. Anything new with you? Hows your mini-me?

heidichristine - Wednesday, 11 June
hey girl! missed ya. just wanted to let you know when zeke was 11 days old he ate constantly...literally that was all he did and i was breastfeeding and pumping and totally exhausted, and my nipples were bleeding and sore. i stuck with it and it is much better now. right now is the hardest part. just stick with it for a little bit more and it will get easier. also, i used the nipple shields for a week, so my nipples could heal while he still breastfed. i know you feel like a milking machine, but it will get easier. hope that helps. write if you get a chance. congrats on your baby!

My son had jaundice when he was 3 days old, he got pretty yellow, but it went away in a week. I ust had to take him in his diaper for wallks around the block to get sunlight. Feeding is better now, I'm not bf'd and he has to be on a hypoallergenic formula due to protein allergies.

It sounds amazing. I cant wait until i get to hold my little guy/girl for the first time. after deciding on whether or not to keep it now i worry so much ill have a miscarriage. I know that is common but it's still a crappy feeling. congrats on the new little bundle of joy and good luck to you too.

pinkb00h - Tuesday, 10 June
I'm sorry to hear about your troubles with breast feeding. Hopefully a lactation consultant can help you out!! At least he's getting breast milk though - that's the best, no matter if he ultimately gets it from your boob or a bottle. BF is getting alot easier for me, thank God! It really doesn't hurt when she first latches on anymore.

LOL about changing his diaper!! Lyvi poops then eats, and she pees afterward. I've been pooped on twice.. it's not a pretty sight! Saturday evening, the 3 of us went downtown to this motorcycle rally thing, and she got fussy and had a dirty diaper, so I got into my step-dad's jeep to change her.. I took her diaper off, and yep, it's poopy and a little wet. Then I notice she's got a little pee on her crotch.. So I'm wiping that up as she shoots out yellow seed-like poop! It was as if somebody turned on a hose, it shot out so far! Got all over the jeep door, was all over the parking lot, all over the blanket she was laying on, and some spattered on my foot! Then she peed again, and that soaked through the blanket and onto the seat.. I started to laugh so hard and had to get Kamil to help me clean it all up! So she ended up going around downtown in just a diaper, and since we hadn't planned on going down there, and didn't have any extra clothes or blankets, Kamil folded up her blanket so that we could still cover her, and the poop was on the inside and wouldn't get on her.. it was a nightmare!!

She's sleeping on my arm, propped up by the desk.. and I think I smell poop.. and I'm hungry. So I gotta get going. But I'm glad everything is going good for you, and your belly is healing! Oh.. is Logan's skin peeling? Just here and there? Lyvi's skin is.. her hands and feet were the worse. It's gotten better now - I've kept baby lotion on them. She's got a couple tiny spots on the sides of her head, kind of where her temple is. I was told this is normal? I hope so!

pinkb00h - Monday, 9 June
Thanks! Alyvia grins in her sleep, too. And after she toots...

I just love watching her facial expressions. She makes allll kinds of faces while her eyes are wandering around. Does Logan do that??

Hope you and your hubby are enjoying him! They really do grow up too fast.. Alyvia will be 2 weeks on Wednesday.. It feels like I just had her yesterday!

That's good your incision is healing well. I've got motrin too, but that's for my stitches - which I think are pretty much all healed up, but it itches like CRAZY. I hate how big wounds like that itch so bad while they heal! It's so hard to be out in public and not grab at my crotch.. LOL!

I've just been tired - they gave me more iron suppliments (a script actually) before I left the hospital, and I had those filled. I guess I'm more anemic now that I was while I was pregnant. It sucks, cuz all I want to do is sleep - and the baby sleeps with me, which causes her to be up at night! Other than that, and getting over a cold (such a stupid time to get sick, too!), I'm great!

pinkb00h - Sunday, 8 June
I guess I'll have to!

How is your recovery going??

luvmy-buninoven - Sunday, 8 June
I think it is just our muscles, maybe they'e used to being stretched out and now they are contracting to back to normal, I know I was a bit sore in my upper abdomen... like the muscles and organs hurt lol, I think it's just everything moving back into place. I saw your invite o myspace and accepted, also saw the pics on your myspace, so cute..... that sure was a memorable day huh? I will ad more in a bit, busy right now.

The happy family, How sweet. Logan is so cute, sounds like your in love with your baby boy. You I never realized that this was your first baby, for some reason I thought you had one child already. Being that Logan is the first one, he is going to be extra spoiled. I can't believe that you can pump out 8oz. already, that's amazing. The most I can do is 6oz. at a time. I fee like I have all these great long distance friends with babies now. I think that is so cool, it really helped having you and the rest of the girls to share this experience with. I just wanna say THANKS FOR BEING THERE FOR ME! YOU ARE A GREAT PERSON, AND KNOW THAT YOU ALWAYS HAVE A FRIEND IN NYC! xxx

luvmy-buninoven - Friday, 6 June
Aww I love to hear good daddy stories! It is so sweet isn't it? To see that sensitive side of them, you'll be the only one to ever see it.... so special!

luvmy-buninoven - Friday, 6 June
I have myspace as well, I'll send you a private message with the link. I bled really bad the first week and a half, then it would go between moderate/light for a week then stopped at 3 weeks except for that yellowish stuff. At my 4 week appt I had no discharge anymore and my episiotomy healed up so I had them insert the IUD and they took me off pelvic rest which I took full advantage of last night LOL.
I am not breastfeeding, more of a personal decision, Jalen is so sensitive to formula too we have to give him that expensive hypoallergenic stuff. But he's gaining weight really well.
I understand your nervousness and am glad your first day is going pretty well so far. I got peed on all the time till I got to know him, now I'm prepared, and you'll also pick up your own tricks just by instinct. OH and also always point his "thing" down when you put the new diaper on, it really saves outfits from the leaks. We actually had our first accident today in a while, peed all over everything like yours... I normally will just wipe him down with baby wipes but this was all over so bath-time it was! LOL.
Alright let me send you this link and it's naptime for me, he's drowsy lol. Have a good day, don't strain yourself.

MissDestiny - Friday, 6 June
What a beautiful birth story, you could be a writer! I was in suspense till the final sentence lol

luvmy-buninoven - Thursday, 5 June
You guys look so happy, such a cute family.
