Well, I am kind of new to this site, but I love talking to other women who are in the same boat that I am! This is my first pregnancy, and there is so much that I don't understand. My husband and I moved to Lexington a little more than a year ago to attend the University of Kentucky. We moved from Fort Campbell, Ky where we spent the first six years of our marriage. Once he got out of the Army, we decided to further our education so we could get a good job and maybe consider trying to start a family. For almost seven years of marriage, we never used any contraceptive (unless you count 3 deployments overseas as such!) and were actually thinking we wouldn't be able to have children. Then suddenly, at the most inconvenient possible time, I found myself pregnant. So while I am now having to postpone my education (again), we are very happy that this miracle has happened. Although I am not a baby person really, I am growing more excited about this baby every day. And, the best part is, we got what we wanted-- a boy! My husband and I both think they have much cooler toys. :) I love sharing thoughts and information with you all, and look forward to the coming weeks. Good luck, ladies!

Today, before work, I decided to take a pregnancy test to see if it could explain why I was "late." I'm never late, ever. The test was 2 years expired, digital, and came up positive in seconds. I was all alone in the house at the time, and completely stunned, as all I could do was say "What!?!" I went by Jesse's workplace on my way in to work and told him the news. I was so upset, because it wasn't expected, planned, or even thought possible. Besides, I have things I want to accomplish before I have a kid! I bought a couple of new tests and took one of each at work (I work in a lab). Both came back positive. I didn't say much the rest of the night. Maybe the tests were wrong-- I'm not ready to be a mom yet!

I had my first appointment with the doctor today. I'm very choosy as to who I will see. This clinic is all-female, so the doctor that delivers the baby will definately be a woman. I like that idea. I saw the only nurse practitioner at the clinic, and she was very friendly. They gave me an ultrasound first thing (rather than urine test, to see if you're actually pregnant). Jesse went with me, and we sat in this dark room with the ultrasound tech, and heard the heartbeat for the first time. I can't explain how wonderful it was. I was so afraid that I was wrong about being pregnant, or that something wasn't quite right. Sometimes, out of fear, I was hoping something was wrong, but when I heard the heartbeat and saw that little bean on the screen, everything changed. Jesse was holding my hand and I almost teared up. He just smiled back at me. I found out that everything looks good, and I am 12 weeks and a day. I'm still worried about everything, because we are trying to get health insurance, but I'm sure all will turn out okay. I still can't believe that we made a baby together. What a miracle.

Well, I'm getting more used to being pregnant now. I am 17 1/2 weeks pregnant today. I had my second appointment. Today I found out that I am Rh-negative. However, I don't have to get a Rhogham shot because Jesse is also Rh-negative. I'm glad that's something I don't have to worry about. So we decided that we wanted another ultrasound, but they didn't want to do one this time. We had to put our appointment off because we were getting insurance through Jesse's work. Well, they rescheduled us for the same NP we saw before, but she was already booked full. So, I insisted on the ultrasound to try to find out the sex (for Christmas and all), but we weren't so lucky. Baby is still too small to see for sure. Everything looks good on him so far. We had to wait 3 hours to see a doc, and the one we saw just kind of slid us into her schedule. She had just come from delivering a baby and popped into our room. I like this lady much more, and she is an actual doctor. We made our next appointment with her. I hope next time we can tell the sex. For now, I will take home these ultrasound pics and show the family over the holidays just how much baby looks like a "who." Aww, I have a who-baby for Christmas.

Today I had my "20-week ultrasound" (although I'm 21 1/2 weeks). I was so excited! We finally got to find out the sex of our little "who." We are having a boy! Jesse and I are both so happy, as we really wanted to have a boy. Sure, a girl would've been cool, too, but we're both better-suited for raising a boy, I think. We keep passing each other in the hallway saying "We're gonna have a boy" with this huge grin on our faces. Now, we just have to choose a name. I'm so happy!

26 weeks today, right on the money. I'm still seeing the same doctor, and becoming pretty comfortable with her. I've been having some pressure at the lower part of my uterus, and was concerned. She checked me and said all looks good and that I'm not dialated at all. Good to know! I also had to go in for the glucose testing today before my appointment. I really hope that my levels aren't too high. I'm measuring 28 cm today and baby's heartrate is fair, around 133 hb/min. Hubby couldn't make it to the appointment today because of school, but I made the next appointment at a time that's good for him. I can't wait to be in the 3rd trimester. Also, we have picked out our nursery furniture. I am very excited to get the room set up for our little boy. I hope our order comes in soon.

My mom and step-dad decided to make a trip up to Lexington a week earlier than planned. What a nice suprise. Today mom went shopping with me and bought us our swing and play yard. She also bought some baby clothes and a football coin bank for the dresser. This baby is going to be so spoiled. I can hardly wait until the rest of the bedroom furniture comes in so we can set up the room.

Well today we got the bedding my mom ordered for us. Its so cute.. its theme is planes, trains, cars, and helicopters. Its in bold colors, and has some cute gingham patterns, too. We love it so much. Now I hope I can get hubby to paint the bedroom! Still waiting on our crib to come in, and we need to buy a mattress. I'm really getting excited for baby now.

Today we went to our 30-week appointment. From now on, we will be seeing the doc every 2 weeks until we hit 36 weeks. Talk about making time fly by! I guess somehow my results from my glucose testing got lost, so she was going to have me get redrawn. So, my task today was to track down my results. I finally found them with the help of my boss-- someone had put my results under the wrong name. Of course, they used "Debra" instead of "Dedra." What a pain. I will make sure when naming my boy to not give him some strange name that's easily mistaken to be something else. Come to find out, I passed the glucose test! I was so afraid I wouldn't, whew! I had to get a Non-stress test done today because I haven't been noticing as much movement. I guess doc was looking for "accelerations" in the heartbeat, so she left me hooked up for about an hour! Then, she went ahead and sent me in for an ultrasound to make sure all is okay. Baby is 3.5 lbs and I'm measuring 31 cm... sounds like I'm a week ahead of schedule.

Another doctor appointment today. Not much going on, just the basics-- urine sample, weight, BP, baby's heartrate, and measurement. Heartrate is about 140 hb/min, so that's good. I'm measuring 33 cm, so still about a week ahead. Since I've been having sharp, stabbing pains at the very bottom of my uterus, she checked me to make sure I'm sealed up good, which I am. Doc says not to be concerned about the pains unless they don't cease after a couple of seconds. Also, she says the swelling I've been feeling in my hands is normal, and also seeing spots if I move too quickly. She doesn't seem concerned that I've got any abnormal symptoms. I'm guessing my iron levels are good, and also that my urine samples are normal, since she hasn't mentioned them. I'm getting tired of being pregnant now, since I'm starting to get the weird symptoms. I might start sleeping in the recliner.

Back to the doc today. I am 34 1/7 weeks. Everything seems fine, BP top reading was a little high, but no cause for concern. Found out that all bloodwork in fact is fine, as well as my urine samples. Lucky that I haven't experienced much swelling at all, except for in my hands. Been feeling a bruised, sometimes sharp pain down by my hootie-hoo, but doc explained its just the pelvic bones separating in preparation for labor. Its bearable, so I'm good. Not too much back pain since I've been home from work. Been feeling baby move pretty good these days-- he's stretching alot and its so cool to see him move from outside the belly! It looks like a little alien is inside of me.. haha! Jesse didn't make it to this appointment, but then again, he didnt miss much. Its getting very close now, so I won't be making many more long-distance trips. I have one more to make this weekend, for my baby brother's wedding shower, but that will be it until his wedding in June (if baby is here by then!). I'm looking forward to my last visit with the family before I'm a mommy.

My 36 week appointment was today. My doc was on vacation this week so I got to see the new NP/midwife. She did the strep B test and checked my cervix to see if I was dialated at all. Unfortunately, she said that I MIGHT have been 1/4 cm dialated. I told her that I hadn't felt baby move much so far today, so I had another NST done. He seems to be doing just fine. I was hoping they'd send me on in for an ultrasound, but no such luck. I also had my final blood test for HIV done (just to be sure since I'm not at the lab anymore). Jesse went with me today, which was nice, but I didn't really need him to be there since I didn't even get faint after getting my blood drawn. I'm so proud of myself! Well, now I will be going to the doc weekly. I have the nursery pretty much set up now, except for painting (if we get around to it in time) and maybe hanging up some stuff on the walls. I also have yet to wash the crib sheets, but thats an easy task. His bag is packed and mine is also for the most part. Now, the only things we have left to do are decide baby's middle name, find a pediatrician, and buy life insurance policies for Jesse and myself. Hopefully we will get that stuff done in the next week, and then its just the waiting game. Come on Logan, get here already!

Well, my last 3 appointments have been weekly. I saw Dr. Mitchell at 37 weeks, NP/MW at 38 weeks, and then Dr. Mitchell again at 39 weeks, which was today. She stripped my membranes, which hurt like HELL, and said I was still 1cm dialated (same as what I was told at 38 weeks). She gave me some hope by telling me that she'd done it for one girl yesterday and she went into labor today. I'm getting so excited about the baby coming, and I really hope that this works. Over the next couple of days, I'm really gonna do the sex thing and pineapple and walking as much as I can. I've tried my breast pump before and might try that again as well. I figure all of it doesn't hurt. Oh, yeah.. we had sex tonight and I lost my plug on hubby! He found it when he went to the bathroom to clean up. Too bad that he put it in the potty before I could see it. I kinda wanted to see what it looked like. Gross, huh? At least its progress. I hope that Logan comes this weekend so that the family can come up to visit. I can't wait to meet him.

Today I woke up and I was wet down there. I thought that maybe it was my water that broke, so I got up and called Jesse and then the clinic. It was on the sheets in kinda like droplets all spread out and my undies were wet, so I thought it could be it. Of course, I didn't wanna call my mom and get her all excited, so I decided to wait until after we got the verdict from the clinic. They told me to put on a panty liner and see if more came out. Well, from the membrane stripping, I couldn't tell what was what since I was already having discharge and what not. Well, they said to come on in and just as I'd figured, it was a false alarm. I saw NP/MW again and she said that it was probably the baby that had bumped my bladder really hard and made me leak some. I've not done it once yet, except for when I'd sneeze really hard, but I guess it could be what it was. I was kinda embarassed and bummed, but I guess I'll just have to wait.
I have the small version of this swing and Jalen loves it too..... I have to keep him swaddled as well lol.
