I had been told that I couldn't have children so the arrival of my first son was a complete surprise! I had my first son shortly after I was married, I was 21. My (now ex) husband and I decided to try for another child sooner rather than later as we expected it could take a long time before I fell pregnant again. But instead I fell pregnant really quickly. (I now don't believe what the Doctors said at all). I had another beautiful boy.

A few years after my ex-husband and I split up I met my best friend and soul mate.

He has 5 and a bit children from two previous marriages, 3 boys and 3 girls. I say a bit as his first wife had a son before he met her. But we still count him very much as apart of our family.

I found I was expecting our 1st child only a month after we had started dating. We were very happy as we felt it was a great way for all our children to feel connected to each other. He has been a bundle of energy since they day he arrived.

Now, completely unplanned, I have just discovered that I’m expecting another baby.

I feel like I'm on a rollercoaster of emotions as we had decided that we had more than enough children. Having said that it was my (better) other half who had asked recently if I would like a girl? But I felt with the number of boys that I have, that my chances are very, very slim. So again we decided not to have anymore children.

I honestly couldn't tell you where this pregnancy has come from. All I know is that it has been very determined to be here..

My2nd - Wednesday, 1 October
Hey you. I will check out e-bay and see how it works. Maybe I can do that, just need to find out how it is done etc. Credit card I suppose?

Well, today is the day, right!

Hope MIL is packing or gone already! Not long now Emma, soon you will be MIL - free!

I will let you know how things go, at present I found a doctor who is willing to treat me at our medical aid rates with a minimal co-payment from my side. Will let you know how that works out, think I will only be reffered there after 30 weeks though.

I cannot wait to see this baby and know it is okay.

Good luck and ejoy this MIL-free upcoming time you have!

Hey! Hope all is still going well and that the contractions are not too bad! When is your hubby getting home? I cannot believe you didn't use pain relief in labor! I was begging for my epi with my daughter! I would honestly have loved to have been able to attempt a normal birth though with no pain relief. I so wish I didn't end up with a c-section with her, there was just no option though if I wanted her out safe.

Great for managing to lose weight, I will find out tomorrow if I am still having the opposite problem, lol!

I have met some great people online, actually met my hubby online about 7 years ago now!

I am going to breastfeed, I hope to for at least a year. With my daughter I made it 4 months, she hated breastfeeding thanks to the NICU and being started immediately on bottles of formula. With my son I made it to 10 months, when I got pregnant he decided that he wanted nothing to do with breastfeeding almost immediately and took his first ever bottle. Before that he even refused the bottles of pumped milk I had! And since this is my last I am hoping to make it the long haul!

Again, I hope all is going great with you! Let me know how you are!

charlee2008smummy - Tuesday, 30 September
Not this weekend he has his parents wedding annivesary on Sunday and also has his lil boy over the weekend. I have appointments coming out my ears so difficult for me to in the week (If i was allowed lol)
Its a difficult one him not being Charlee's father...So i cant realy expect him to drop everything u know, im not that low.
He is gonna make it here for her birth he has reassured me on that one which is betta than nothing... But as im sure ou do your husband i miss him big time badly.

LisaJ - Tuesday, 30 September
Thanx so much for your kind words. It means alot to me to have made supportive friends on this network.
Not long for you to go now. Hope the birth goes ok and I can't wait to see some pictures and that the MIL is behaving herself!

christine1 - Tuesday, 30 September
are you getting any contractions or anything that show you might go early?

My2nd - Tuesday, 30 September
Thx for the comment Emma. I must say, I am anxious to hear baby, but money is a problem and I have never bought on e-bay, don't even know if you can buy stuff on ebay if you live in south africa, aren't the prices in dollars?

I am putting faith in god that all is okay and wait out the 6 weeks ,will try and see if I can't find a cheaper u/s place in the interim, maybe have one done just to reassure myself and get the actual gestation period!

Sorry to hear about your experience, that sounds even worse! I guess it was worse for me being my first time and all. But yes, even now it is still sore, he was really rough with me and he could have asked me if I had an exam of such before etc. and prepared me for what was going to happen etc. Anyway, some doctors!

I am sure though all is fine, many women have baby's without having had /s or dopplers :-) So I will try and rest at ease.

My2nd - Tuesday, 30 September

At least you made me laugh. I have had some good news though, seems there is one doctor who can help, not that expensive and the medical aids approves of him, so it seems. So lets hope this works out so that I can just have this baby with as little debt as possible!

I think I will be asking for one of the other GP's next time, don't want that happening again, EVER!

charlee2008smummy - Tuesday, 30 September
Its ok i wont ask when you left school hehehe...

Aww thats nice reading with your children, makes you feel closer i bet?
Hope your other half comes back soon it sucks being alone. Im not gonna be able to see my other half now til missy is born as i cant drive that far...I can...Iv been told by him not too.
So its just me n the cat now.
I hoovered and polished Charlee's room today and put the 80% finishing touch to it. All iv gotta do is put the crib in which my sis is buying but im bit superstious (no idea how u spell it) So its bit like when to get it.

My2nd - Tuesday, 30 September
Yah, your MIL sounds a bit much for me to handle either

Don't worry, she is almost out of there! Then it is all up to you, then you just concentrate on getting that baby to come before she returns!

Ja, the table top thing shouldn't have been on the floor, but never the less I will have to pay it.

My2nd - Tuesday, 30 September
Hey there. The glass table top was removed from the table and lying on the floor, quite inevitable~! I was trying the whole weekend to keep my son away from it and there I go and break it A little bit funny now, but not then.

I don't think it is a bad place, think MIL just wants it in the kitchen because maybe there are tiles in there and she thinks it may be easier to clean up in case water spills, but hey, I wouldn't want to give birth in a kitchen either. Don't give way on that, just do it as you will be comfortable with it!

Anyway, had some bad news about my medical insurance yesterday, turns out they are such bad payers that no Gynaecologist will help me without me paying cash upfront. Fun isn't it?

I was furious! So I pay them, only so that I can pay the doctor and c-section in cash, which I obviously have ample of, not, and then try and claim it back from the medical aid?! I don't think so.

I would rather not pay them and go to a goverment hospital which will cost me nothing, but the medical aid covers the goverment hospital what a joke.

Our goverment hospitals are pathetic and the homeless and disatvantaged go there, they are filthy and it is truly a horrifying experience having to go there, but I will try not to stress about this just yet, there may be alternatives. Read more about it on my blog.

Anyway, hang in there, only today and tomorrow then MIL leaves on holiday and you can put the birthing pool on the roof if you like and she won't be there to spoil it.

Well, good luck and I am thinking of you, please just remember to send me a pic of baby and to let me know that it is, just saying, in case you forget

charlee2008smummy - Tuesday, 30 September
OMG thats a bit unfair, im hoping big time badly that i dont have to stay in hosp id hate it more than anything in the world! Think i might just sneak us both out of there lol
now...which baby was mine again

Homework nowadays is done online at his school, didnt have any of this when i was at skool infact we didnt really have hardly any computer training at all.
My sisters Finances lil Girl, her skool every student has to have a lapop as all their lessons are done online in the class OMG how unfair is that!

Hows all the 'hanging in there' going? Your husband at home now til lil junior is born? xx

alandjess11 - Tuesday, 30 September

sparklyval - Monday, 29 September
Hi Emma
Thanks for the reply....things have certainly changed with regard to the UK maternity provision since I had my last baby! I was quite shocked to find that where I live (Lincolnshire) the midwives do not even routinely listen to the baby's heartbeat at each appt any more! I was told that they will listen at the mother's request, but it is not a routine part of the appt. I guess it is just more evidence of the strain on the UK NHS system. I am not sure how many more years the NHS can carry on like this!!

I don't know how big this baby is going to be either. I paid for a private 3D scan which was carried out when I was 28 weeks pregnant. At that point the man undertaking the scan measured the baby and the measurements were 'average'. I am hoping that this time around my baby may be a little smaller than before, but it will probably just be wishful thinking! I asked the midwife at my last appt. last week and she told me that the baby didn't feel exceptionally large, so here's hoping!! Probably best not to worry too much (unless of course I end up going 10 days overdue!)

Your family sounds wonderful - and you have some amazing photographs on your profile page. Which member of your family is the talented photographer? I bet family life for you is great fun, although I am sure it must be exhausting at times. In some respects I wish that I had started having children earlier as it may have been nice to have another 1 or 2 children. We are definitely stopping at 3, so I intend to make the most of this baby when it is born!!

We found out at the 20 week scan that we are expecting another baby girl. We haven't told anyone at all - it is very amusing as the consensus of opinion is that I am expecting a boy! Our friends and family will be in for a surprise soon! Do you know if you are expecting a boy or a girl?
Best wishes, Val

christine1 - Monday, 29 September

sparklyval - Monday, 29 September
Hi! Just saw your post on the wk 38 forum. I don't know what country you are living in, but I am 'guessing' it may be the UK?

I am in the UK and had my last baby 5 years ago when it was standard to be seen weekly between 36-40 wks. Now if the pregnancy is not considered to be high risk there are only appts at 36 and 38 wks. The next appointment would then normally be at 41 weeks (basically once you are overdue!!). It is a bit rubbish really isn't it!! My midwife has booked me an appt for 40 weeks as I am worried about what size the baby may reach if I go a long way over. My other two have been 9lbs3 and 8lbs14, so I am hoping that I give birth before my 40 week appt!

Congratulations on your unexpected pregnancy - I am so impressed that you are a mum/step-mum to so many children. Good luck with the birth - I will be looking out for any developments. Valerie x

sharra - Monday, 29 September
That is too strange. Where do you live? I would double check with that one. Is there a doctor in clinic? Call and ask for doctor to give an explanation to why. Really, that would make me feel nervious being so close to due date.Anything could happen.

charlee2008smummy - Monday, 29 September
Yea but its nice to have a break definitly girl! ;wub

Oooh now did u think to yourself this would go down just lovely with a nice glass of something cold and alcoholic
Have you found that your a lot nicer since being pregnant or r u moany an snappy?
