Tonight I was able to experience just one more of the wonderful feelings of being pregnant. Mom has suggested to me to lay flat on my back for the last couple weeks or so and feel around on my belly and see if I can feel any kind of baby movements. She’d been reading where many girls, who are smaller, are being able to feel a slight kick right around this week of their pregnancies. I spent some time throughout the last weeks pushing around in hopes of feeling some kind of little movement, but there wasn’t anything but the gurgling of my belly. Tonight, though… I was doing the normal routine of pushing around on my belly… and all of the sudden, I felt something that I’d never felt before. It felt like a slight nudge against my fingers as I pushed. Wanting to reassure myself, I called mom and Vic down to feel the movement. And sure enough it wasn’t my imagination! Both of their eyes became as big as mine did! The more we all poked around on my belly, the more pressure the baby would kick with! Needless to say, we spent the night pushing around… and feeling the baby respond back. It was so cute because even when they were feeling the baby kick, I was able to feel the movement from the inside when the baby would kick back. I would have to say it’s the best feeling I’ve ever felt inside me! I could lay and feel that movement all day long!!! I think everyone else around me could too! Everyone gets excited when they feel the baby kicking back to the touch of their hand! It’s amazing too because as I was laying there, we were all watching my belly… and when I was really still you could see my stomach going up and down, almost like to the beat of the baby’s heartbeat. It was just right around the side of my belly button (where the baby seems to be hanging out!) We’re thinking the movement is the baby’s heartbeat coming thru my belly!!! I’m thinking this is just the beginning of the wonderful journey we’re on… Every day seems to get that much more exciting!!!

Amazing… is all I can say about today! Today, I had my second OB doctor’s appointment. I met one of the two doctors who will be seeing me throughout the pregnancy. And we really fell in love with her. Her sense of humor and personality really help put us at ease the moment she walked into the room.
When I went to the doctors last Friday, a midwife who saw me said it was their policy that they couldn’t listen to our baby’s heartbeat until I was 12 weeks…. Disappointing… being I was only a couple days shy of this point. So the 1st appointment was basically spent doing a regular checkup… followed by her feeling my uterus… and placing me at an approximate 12 weeks mark. As some of you know, it really bothered us because many people have been getting lucky enough to have already been able to hear the heartbeat… and even have an ultrasound by this point. She also informed me I’d be tossed between three different doctors throughout the pregnancy… which caused some uneasiness because of my rheumatoid and it just didn’t seem like it’d be comfortable. So I scheduled an appointment with a whole new OB doctor for the 2nd week in March. I decided, however; I would keep my appointment with the 1st doctors’ office for this Friday… at the chance of being able to hear the heartbeat.
Needless to say… my feelings on switching doctors have changed! Dr. Thompson, the one who we met with today, won us over. She sat down and talked a lot of the basic details over with us… giving us some more insight on this whole new little life we’re bringing into this World! Once she doubled checked to see if we had any questions of our own for her, she said… “Well I’m going to go get the Doppler machine and we’re going to listen to the little one’s heartbeat!” We were thrilled because we weren’t sure if our excitement of hearing the heartbeat would backfire on us again or not. Vic went out and brought mom in, while waiting on Dr. Thompson to come back in. We wanted her to be apart of hearing our baby’s heartbeat! After putting the jelly on my lower belly, Dr. Thompson rolled the Doppler along it. Knowing I was a little worried that she wasn’t picking the heartbeat up right away, she assured me that sometimes it takes a little time to find the baby, in the beginning, because of how small they are. Soon after… we all started smiling as we heard the little thumping echoing from the Doppler machine. I couldn’t believe what we were hearing… I joked with mom saying… you can tell I’m pregnant, cause my eyes were kind of teary eyed when I heard our baby’s heartbeat. I just couldn’t believe that little sound was coming from within me! Dr. Thompson said the baby’s heartbeat was 160! She said that was a good rate… they usually like it between 120-160. She said the baby probably has a higher heartbeat right now because of all the developing that’s taking place! It’s hard to put into words how amazing today was for me… The sound of that little heartbeat definitely put that smile across my heart! …and made it more of a reality… “I’m really going to be a Mommy”!!!
Our next appointment is scheduled in 4 weeks… with our 1st Ultrasound coming in 6 Weeks!!! You know it’ll be a long 6 weeks…! Dr. Thompson informed us that I can choose to just be seen between her and Dr. Gingrich… and that I wouldn’t have to see the midwife (who I didn’t care for) more than that 1st apt I had with her. This was a relief, being we really like Dr. Thompson. And we can only imagine the humor that would be in our delivery room… when you have Vic’s sense of humor mixed with hers!!! So I’ll most likely be canceling my doc apt with the other new doctor’s office, as long as it all keeps going well!!!
So keep checking back for more updates to come on our little one!!!
