My profile

January 23, 2008 - Before heading out to a nice steak dinner with friends, I peed on the stick and found out I was preggo! Quite a surprise indeed! Needless to say, hubby and I were somewhat distracted through most of the dinner. It was kind of hard to focus on anything that was said. We kept catching each other's eye from across the table and smiling a smile of a little kid with a secret. And for the next three months we got very good at keeping our little secret.

Wanting to wait until we had some genetic testing completed, we chose not to tell anyone about the pregnancy until we had all our ducks in a row. It was a very interesting time in our lives. I think it actually brought us even closer in some ways. Having a secret between two people is a very strong bond and it was comforting knowing that it was ours alone.

Finally, in our fourth month of pregnancy, we got the "all clear" on our genetic testing and told our parents and siblings that we were expecting. Everyone was thrilled and of course impressed with our secret-keeping abilities :)

So, with the morning sickness and normal first-trimester fear of miscarriage behind us, we could finally focus on the idea that we were actually going to have a baby! Holy crap! It really does take some getting used to, doesn't it? The whole idea of another human being coming into your lives that will be wholly dependent upon you. After September we will no longer wake in the morning to our own biological clocks. The baby will be the new clock with his own built-in alarm. And from what we hear it will be LOUD and erratic :)

So, it is with great excitement (and a moderate dose of fear) that we venture forth into this new chapter in our lives with open eyes, arms and hearts.

Can't wait to meet you, belly-dweller.

bowling4 - Thursday, 10 July
Good for you for gaining 28 lbs! Why are people so obsessed about weight when they are pregnant? I know we shouldn't gain 80 lbs, but most of my friends gained anywhere from 30-60 lbs and they all got back to their normal size. The important thing is that the baby is healthy. Not what size you are!

Good luck to you, sweetie!

I definitely feel like i've been missing out - i have spent up until now basically eating no sweets. i was so terrified of getting gd that i cut out a lot of stuff. but i did treat myself to some ice cream cake that my friend made last night - and yummy yummy yummy! have you gained lots of weight? I was already heavy and i lost 9 pounds and now i'm finally caught back up ( im only down 1 pound now). so i just dont know where he is getting so big from.

I didn't realize we were due the same day! Fun. I am a scheduled C so no guess work there. kinda relived too as baby #1 was 2 weeks over. So this one will be 3 weeks sonner than him. Hoping not too tiny though. He was 8lbs. 10 oz. They did an ultrasound just before I was induced and told me he would be 11 lbs! He had a huge head. lol. I love the 'belly dweller' name. We haven't settled on her name yet and that is way funnier than 'baby'. I think you must be a writer as you certainly have a way with words. Congrats on your new expansion. And I don't mean your maternity jeans!

That is funny. With my first we lived on a 3rd floor apartment until I was 7 months and we bought our house. But the people around us would go on the balcony to smoke and I was so hormonal and irritable that I would say to my husband that I wished the cigarettes would kill them already. Not in a quiet wisper either. I would practically shout it. We never saw them fac to face but they also had like 5 cats and were very grimey people so when we would go down the stairs, their door was always open, I would all but gag just walking by the smell. I was no more tactful then than I was in our apartment though. She knew her place stank. Glad that is over. Sad thing is that here, we have all bought our homes and we could be living next door for years so I have to bite my tongue. But my son will tell them that smoking will kill them. lol. We had to nip it in the bud when he pretended to smoke one day. Now he hates it like we do. Kids are so easily impresses upon. But, this will pass and soon it will be winter and they will not be out smoking as much and the doors and windows will be closed so for now we must be the silent sufferers of cigarette smoke harassment. lol. or would it be assault? oh well. you get the idea. Tandi

Great name :) We have the same due date and are about the same age, too! Thanks for your comment - it's nice to know I'm not alone feeling apprehensive. Still, I know deep downt hat everything will be fantastic!

Fudgeethewhale! Your "handle" is delightful and one can not help but conjure his side kick, Cookie Puss. Both of whom you can get at your Carvel Ice Cream store.... are there any more Carvel Ice Crean stores?

grizzcubs - Friday, 20 June
Glad to know that I'm not the only one. I feel like a whale! And it is so hot here in Hawaii that I feel even more swollen. Anyways, I keep telling myself I can make it for three more months.
Take care,
Maha

Thanks so much! I will take a look at that. The balanced/unbalanced chromosomes are fairly easy to find, so the results shouldn't take too long.

Thanks for the reply! I hope mine goes as smoothly as yours did. There are 2 Dr's in Houston whho do this, so i need to talk to my Dr's and see who they think the best is. Thanks again!

Yeah, needing help in picking a name for your own child is kinda silly. Hey, I lol with your comment about crapping the table, that was funny!

I've had 3 hernias (pre-pregnancy) so if you have any specific questions, let me know. The only hernias I've known about are visible (mine or anyone else's) - it's when a piece of intestine pokes through a hole in your connective tissue and you see a bulge on the outside that you can push back in. If you cough or strain your abs hard, it will pop out more. If you have anything like that, it's a hernia. If not, it's probably just growing pains, I'd guess. But if you're concerned, ask a doctor.

eeew, so true about Ariela, I hadn't thought of that, I would hate to be called areola & the way kids are these days, I'm sure that would happen....Thanks for pointing that out!

hmm...my husband and I have been together a total of 3 years. I hope that when the results come back that I do not have it. It is my first pregnancy and I hope that I won't be put on bed rest or that they have to take the baby early.

1sttimemommy2008 - Friday, 30 May

Thanks! I am thinking about getting a membership with the YMCA to start swimming and exercising. All we can do is our best though. The cravings that I have for ice cream are way too hard to ignore.
