Now that my baby girl is here I figured it was time to erase my pregnancy journal and move on to a Mommy journal.

5/21/08

My little girl is 3 & 1/2 months old now and doing pretty good. She was diagnosed with acid reflux and is now on prevacid (solutab) in the morning and 1 ml of Axid at night. The pediatrician also changed her formula to Nutramigen to help with the gas problems she was dealing with at the same time. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to make sure she gets the prevacid. The doctor said I could give it in a bottle with her formula but it often ends up stuck to the sides of the bottle. I've been scooping that up with my finger and then running it over her tongue to make sure she gets all of it. She is so much better than she was before. For a couple of weeks she was crying almost non stop until she was diagnosed and put on medicine. It was so hard to hear her cry and not be able to make it better. Two weeks of being on medicine and she is her happy self again. We are having issues getting her to feed from the bottle. The pediatrician said that Giovanna started to associate the bottle with the pain of the acid reflux so that is why she is afraid to eat from it. I'm hoping soon that it will be a distant memory and she'll readily eat from one again. If anyone else is dealing with this (acid reflux in their little one) please share your story with me or leave the link to your page.

Here are some pic's of me and my husband...

Thanks, I totally agree. They should really make it easier to give the Prevacid. We recently switched formulas to Enfamil A/R and he seems to be doing better. Hoping it keeps up. God bless our little babies, they will get through this. Take care.

My baby has reflux too. We have the 15 mg prevacid pills. The instructions were to dissolve in 4 ml of water, discard 2 ml then give him the remainder. Well, as you know, it clumps, doesn't dissolve, so when you discard the 2 ml, all the medicine goes out. Or, if you give it too him first, he gets too much. So, another pediatrician reccommended breaking the 15 mg pills in half, then dissolving in 2 ml of water. Says there is no real good way to make sure they get the 7.5 mg...I can't believe they are prescribing this crap but there is no good way to control the dosage. I think its helping him but I'm not sure. He seems to have less discomfort but a lot more spit up.

P.S. - It is definitely nice to know there are other people out there who's children have this problem... I felt like a horrible mommy for a long time when i couldn't make him stop crying... things are so much better now.. and he's a happy little guy... so as hard as it was.. it was worth it to have his smiles now... so don't worry... It gets better!!! And your daughter has beautiful big blue eyes!!

He took the bottle pretty well.. and fairly quickly... I had his father introduce it when he was two weeks old. He was doing well at the breast and so we figured why not try it early.. and he took it failry easily.. That's pretty much the one thing that was easy with him! LOL Now that he is 6 months old, he takes about 30 oz throughout the day.. but also gets three meals of solid food...

Hi Heather - My son has reflux and started meds around the same time as your daughter... to give him the prevacid, the easist for me was to dissolvei t in water and use a syringe.. but if that doesn't work his GI doc said that I could sprinkle it on some pure organic applesauce... so that's what I did... it worked... Hope that helps!

Hey.. I know I know I have been so bad about my updates it seems like I had so much time to keep up with them in the start and then things started happening so fast that i just got so distracted. I have been through lamaza, hospital tours tons of OB appointments and had my last u/s and havent updated about anything LOL. I read your latest updated and it seems like we are on the same page i have packed our hospital bags and finished her laundry which did take FOREVER. I have set up everything for her room and just need to do some final touchs. I don't know about you but I have also become a zombie I am tired alllll the time now so I have not had that 'nesting' period yet instead I have just become more lazy. I saw that your daughter weighs about 5.5 pounds I have no idea what my lil one weighs this week but on x-mas eve we had our last u/s and she was 4.5 pounds with apparently was right on target. SHe has been head down since 28 weeks and so I am hoping thats a sign that she won't take to long to come on out once she hits full term. That tip about the table cloth is pretty cool I never even thought of that to be honest i didnt even know that the water breaking in bed would effect the mattress i thought it would be like spilling a glass of water hahahah thats really cool that you took a breast feeding class I did not do that but it was covered in my lamaze class and then at the hospital i will deliver at they run a breast feeding class 2 x a day on the mat floor so i may attended one of those depending on how I feel. Anyways keep me posted it's good to hear things are going well for you and your lil Gia ;o) xox

Thank you! YOu too! I cannot wait for my ultrasound. It is Jan 25th. Is is just DRAGGING! LOL. I'm so impatient! Aww...your first baby! Are you going to have more? I bet you are super excited. What is life like in NY? I have always wanted to visit there! I live on complete opposite ends of the us! Washington, and I love it. It is sooo beautiful here and we have about 8 inches of snow right now and it's going to snow for the next 3 days. It's wonderful! Keep in touch!

AWWEEE, a sweet little girl! Thats so great!! Geez I'm envious... I can't WAIT to find out the sex! You must have been so impatient, waiting all that time. I have an ultra sound tomorrow, I'm a bit nervous to hear the heart beat but I have no reason to suspect anything other than a healthy little peanut... It sounds like you have been thru a lot the past yr, I'm v happy for you that everything is working out. Congrats! Lets stay in touch :)

hi heather, well I guess I am pretty familiar with the routine by now but each pregnancy is different along with each baby. Every time I think that I have it exactly downpat the next baby throws me a bit of a curve ball. but I can say that I am 100% more confident now then at 17 with my first baby at least now i know to burp a baby after he is finished eating.before he pops.haha, just kidding I know a lot more than that now thank God.Well I hope all goes well with your pregnancy, God bless

Hi Heather!! Congrats on your pregnancy!!! Thank you so much for stopping by my page yesterday! Your baby is stubborn just like mine is LOL! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my lil bean cooperates this Wednesday. I just came back from Upstate and bought some baby items from Walmart...had to get neutral colors, but my hands were itching to pick up some pink things LOL!!!

Hoping that your baby lets the ultrasound tech do their job and reveal themselves LOL!!
