Thursday, 1 May Tried to e-mail you but it got returned - is there an extra b in your address? erica.gartner@gmail.com is mine!
Hi, Kim,
This is my preferred e-mail and you can write here whenever. I love the site, but the busier I get the less I'll check it, I'm sure. Oh, and I think I told you before that my real name is Erica, but I used "Marina" on the site because I have a crazy sister-in-law who stalks blogs, so.... :)
Skyler also gets the hiccups every day, spits up a lot (though some days it seems better than others - not sure if this is related to more breastmilk or formula on those particular days?), cries/fusses a lot (though it's getting a tad better) and just generally looks like she's in pain a lot when she's awake. Now, I will say all of this seems to be getting better and coupled with the reflux is a MAJOR gas problem that we have her on Mylecon drops for. The pediatrician said the gas should start getting better at this age, but the reflux will get worse. Last night she just cried and cried for so long. I think we both fell asleep next to eachother w/her crying! I will change her diaper, feed her, rock her, etc. and not much works. She lets out this cry that is more than a "hungry cry" (which you start to recognize) - it is a painful cry. So I think when she's doing that, it must be the heartburn/reflux or the gas. I, too, had very bad heartburn every evening when I was pregnant.
Do you guys have any research on giving these kids the medicine this young? I really try to forego taking medications unless absolutely necessary and would want Skyler to do the same. On this one I'm just kind of blindly following the doctor. I think part of that is about me just needing some direction from people right now because my life is so chaotic. But I'd be interested in what kind of research there might be on the medicines at a young age and possible harmful effects. At some point, if he's fussy all the time, you might need a break from the fussing and maybe you could just try it to see if it soothes him? Maybe you could try some homeopathic remedies first? I haven't had time to look into all of that like I normally would..
Drew and I hung out w/the baby yesterday and just avoided any hot-button issues. At this point, I have no desire to fight and the little things really could mean less to me - I just want to keep the family together. Unfortunately, when we are together, nothing I say or do is right and he picks and picks on me. Thankfully he was able to control himself yesterday. He pretty much made it clear that his only reason for wanting an amicable relationship right now is the baby, not to reconcile. But anything positive is a step in the right direction.
Thankfully I do have my mother down here. She moved down to FL last summer a few weeks after we did. We don't have a perfect relationship, so things are rough sometimes w/her, but she has been helping quite a bit.
Okay, gotta run, take care and let me know if you find out anything more on the reflux. I would really try to keep him upright and not flat as much as possible, if that seems to help. I use the Boppy all day long. Just feed him and when he starts getting tired, prop him up in that thing (or his carseat as I think you mentioned). Skyler loves that Boppy - I guess it's nice and cozy around her.
Have a good day,
Erica

Tuesday, 29 April Skyler's had the acid reflux problem since she was in the NICU. She is on Zantac, too. I went to the pediatrician's yesterday and they are switching her meds. She also told me that it doesn't really matter what food she's on (I thought it might be my breastmilk, or the formula I supplement with). If you supplement, you might want to ask the Dr. if you should switch to a "pre-digested" formula (Enfamil has not worked for us - we're now on Nestle Good Start). I hear your husband on this, but if you've ever had bad heartburn you'll know the pain involved! That's the thing that justifies the meds, for me. Oh, and the update on the husband is that he's filing for separation this week. Really awesome guy. And we've been married 5 months to answer your question!! If you want to talk about the reflux stuff or whatever, I can be reached at 954-515-2610. I've been going through the reflux thing for 2mos and would be happy to share all I know about it... marina -
Tuesday, 22 April Hey there, Kim. You have to post pics of your little one soon! I checked but I don't see him yet...I bet he's adorable. How are you guys doing? We start counseling on Thursday, so hopefully that will help us sort some things out. It's really just a day by day thing. One day is a little better and the next is horrible. Sorry I don't have more upbeat news. Today was one of the horrible ones! At least I got a part-time job at Banana Republic. That should be fun and something to take my mind off things. It'll be the fourth one I've worked for actually and I miss the discount. I'm looking forward to the discount on all the Baby Gap stuff, too! Woo-hoo! Okay, take care and post some pictures!! :) littleskittle82 -
Saturday, 12 April Thanks for sharing your story. I had hoped to skip the epidural, but I guess the nature of having a baby is that it's unpredictable and you can't control everything! Maybe I will just tell them to please induce me in whatever way is safest for baby and me. I hope you're enjoying your new baby! mrt2153 -
Saturday, 12 April Congratulations! I'm glad to hear you had a good weekend experience. Of course, now that I posted that question there's NO WAY I'll be going into labor this weekend, right? ;) But I feel better about it if I do. Thanks again! lilmami8508 -

Saturday, 5 April Sounds like your water breaking...as it can be a trickle of fluid or a gush. As for the mucous plug it probably was because a lot of women lose their plug a little at a time or in a big glob....good luck to you, hope it's beginning of labour for you! aine -
