Hi everyone! I am 38 years old and pregnant for the first time! i tried for years to concieve but eventually gave up trying. This has come as a complete (but welcome) shock to my husband and I. I am 7 weeks at this time and I am due to go to the OB/GYN Tuesday. I can't wait!

I heard the heartbeat for the first time to day. It was 162. I also got an ultrasound done. the baby was very active, jumping around and turning. the doctor said the ultrasound may have been irritating him/her! I got all choked up, which is funny because I am usually a pretty stoic person. I am scheduled for an amniocentesis June 9th, which will place me at 16 weeks and then a level 2 ultrasound July 2nd. This has got to be the most exciting time of my life!

I know what you mean, I feel sick between 11am and 2 pm, apart from that, just tired. Have you had an ultra sound yet??

sharon-koch - Thursday, 24 April
The best thing to do would be to ask your doctor about the exercise. General rule is that if you had been working out prior to getting pregnant you can continue. My doc said to lower my weights by one third and not to let my heart rate go over 140. I think its important to try to be in good shape throughout it all. I hear it makes delivery much easier!

Hi there, how are you feeling? My nausea has kicked in, but it reminds me that I am pregnant so I don't mind so much. Have been sick at all? WE had our first ultra sound last week and got to see the heart beat, it was fantastic.

kathy24 - Thursday, 17 April
I bet they are doing an level 2 ultra sound then that is great it shows alot more than a normal ultra sound and its so reassuring that your baby is healthy!

kathy24 - Wednesday, 16 April
The level 2 ultra sound looked the same to me as a level 1 but during the ultra sound they switched it to a 3D for a minute. The dr told me that a level 2 ultra sound they can see the baby alot clearer. They look at the brain for fluid and they can tell if the baby may have down syndrome by the thickness of the brain and there fingers which I guess is hard to tell in a level 1 ultra sound. The dr can then tell you what your odds are of having a baby with down syndrome and will recommend if you need further testing done.

Hi. The best thing to think about feeling sick is that your hormones are mean't to be at good levels so I suppose it's a goos sign........or am I just trying to make myself feel better. Yeh I always have that metallic taste too.

babye - Sunday, 13 April

It only took 10 days to get the results back. I had it done on 03/27 and got the results on Monday 04/07.

Hi there, I did get my amino done when I was 16 weeks and it was not bad at all. The dr told me when I was going to feel a few cramps and then it was over. That day I had a little bit of cramping which was totally normal and was told to take tylenol. I'm really glad I did it, we now have the results back and the baby is fine no downs or etc. And we are having a boy. I know you hear alot of things about the amino but it really was not as bad as people say it is. Good luck!!

hey i wake up like clockwork every nite at 3am...but i force myself to go back to sleep...then im up again at 630...not to mention that i have been having the most intense craziest dreams....

kathy24 - Wednesday, 9 April
Hey there, I'm also 38 years old and I have lupus which makes me high risk. I was told the same thing that I should have a amniocentesis, instead my doctor sent me to a high risk OB and did a level 2 ultra sound at 16 weeks and 5 days. he could tell in the ultra sound that everything looked good and no thickness in the neck or fluid in the brain so he told me that he did not advise me to the amniocentesis. You might check to see if you could go to a high risk OB doctor for a level 2 ultra sound instead.

I am so happy to have a baby growing inside of me once again. I am not going to let that doctor get me down. Maybe I am emotional but he was not sincere and had me in tears by the time I was leaving. It is still very early and switching will not be a problem. I know I am still several weeks away but I can't wait to feel this little person moving around. Have you been experiencing nausea?, It is really getting the best me this time around, any tips??

newbiemomtobe - Wednesday, 9 April
Congrats on your appt - it's reassuring huh?? Anyways there is a woman BETH04 in week 18, she did Amnio and I am sure she would be happy to tell you about it. Good luck - I may do the same - I am doing the IPS screening first.
