It can be normal for baby to go several days without pooping- the longest my baby has gone is 3 days. Now he goes every 2 or so days. It doesn't mean that he is constipated- It means that they are using up the food that they are given and their digestive system is maturing. If baby is wetting diapers- and doesn't appear to be dehydrated, then I wouldn't worry until its been 2 weeks- then I'd go to the doctor. In the meantime- you could try the above website suggestion to give some water to baby. I think the longest recording no poop period for a breast fed baby is 2 weeks- so i'd worry if its hitting that mark. Passing gas is a good sign that things are moving. You can also see if his tummy feels hard or soft, can you hear gurgling. If tummy is hard, take him to doctor tomorrow. If its soft, gurgling and gas is passed a lot- then poop is probably coming- be prepared for a big one! my7thbabyduemay20th2008 -
Saturday, 19 April I read your birthstory hun, and I read that you didn't realise that the hospital would let the epidural wear off before you pushed.
I have had a few epidurals, and some wore off before I had the babe(pushing) and some didn't, it all depends on what time it was administered, and how fast you progress, if you had it four hours before you started pushing then they would be reluctant to give you a top up, as sometimes if you cant feel to push then forceps or ventouse are used to help the baby out, they like the mum to be able to feel to push so that this sort of medical intervention can be avoided.
I have a good push on me, that even when I was so numb down there, I could still push the baby out, with such force, that my last one almost went off the end of the table, so it didn't matter much that I couldn't feel anything.
The idea of an epidural is to completely take the pain away, there are many women who have given birth with one, and I am one, that don't feel anything when the baby crowns, as I said before it depends on when it is administered and how quickly you go into second stage, you just had bad luck with this one, but it doesn't mean it will be the same the next time round.
Hope this helps hun my7thbabyduemay20th2008 -

Saturday, 19 April Hi sweetheart!
thanks for dropping by my page, it was lovely to hear from you.
Yeppers, I had six kids and one on the way, and I wouldn't give them back for the world, I married when I was 19 in Aussie, and got preggers four months later, and now he is 18 and a half, my second is 17 and my third is 14 (a daughter), and my fourth is 11, these kids are to my first husband, and I then remarried and nine years later, gave birth to my fifth, and then my sixth, and now I am about to have my seventh.
In New Zealand, all maternity care is free, unless of course you go to a specialist.
If a woman happens to be single and has a baby, and can't work, then the government pays for her to stay at home and care for her baby, while, this is good for women who need it, there is a lot of women that abuse the system.
Yes, babies are expensive, but I have never really looked at that, you know, if I had, I probably wouldn't have all these precious kids. I have 4 at home, my 18 year old works, and lives out in a sleepout, and my 14 year old is in her second year of highschool, and quite academic, which I am so happy about, and then, I have my two pre-schoolers, they are the ones that try me, but I love them so much, I am going to be super busy when this little girl decides to grace us with her presence, hehe.
Thanks for taking the time to drop by, you are more than welcome to keep in touch sweetheart.

Saturday, 19 April nope, just one kid, but I've been around kids forever. I'm aunt to 7and babysat enough while in high school to pay for my first year of nursing school! I'm used to helping people, so I'm glad I can continue to do that while on Mat leave- its nice to know that I'm making a difference- I just want to help other mom's enjoy their babies as much as possible!
