Update: Baby Gage moved to the IICU.....infant icu last week. For a couple of days it was difficulft for everyone getting adjusted but, now he is doing fabulous! Santa came to visit on the 11th and Gage got his first Christmas pics taken! On Friday his big sis finally got to hold him and to see him. She had not seen him since Oct. 19th!!!! Jessica and Joel have some training to do and alot of things to learn while Gage gains a bit more weight. He has to weigh 11 lbs to be switched to the home ventilator. So we wait! Who would have EVER thought we would still be in the hospital! He will be there at least another month and a half...........oh my! Happy Holidays to everyone!
Hugs & Kisses from Baby G!

Update: Baby Gage is still in the Infant ICU. But he is scheduled to be discharged on February 17th! We are in training for the next 2 weeks......yes training! On Monday we (the caregivers) all have to take a Ventilator class which is 8 hrs long. After that all 4 of us have to have an 8 hr day with the ventilator instructor with Gage learning how to transport him and read his vent. Each of us then has to complete an 8 hr and 24 hr nurrsing shift with total responsibility of his care. So it is going to be very busy preparing for him to come home. There is also a home inspection, delivery of the ventilators, oxygen and all supplies.....meetings with medicaid, social security........ah...the list goes on and on. Baby Gage will also have 40 hrs of home nursing care per week! He is doing so much better these days and his little personality is coming thru. We just found out from the opthomologists that he does have both optic nerves! He does have optic nerve hypoplasia and we don't know just what he can see yet. He has several issues that will be dealt with when he is a year old and alot of wait and see things. His ventilator rate has been turned down on a regular basis and he is very close to doing trach collar trials...in other words time of of the ventilator! His case of vm was so different than others on this board. The hydro is very different from other also. VM can mean so many things with a zillion different outcomes. To check on Baby Gage and see his pictures go to his website which is updated regularly!
Guess who's going home tomorrow! Baby Gage that's who! He was supposed to go home today but, he really didn't want to.
