Meet Mumbai, the giant monkey! I found him 'in the forest' to take home and put in the nursery. He's so cute!

I am 33 years old, been married for six years, no previous kids, work full time, and attend grad school full time. The pregnancy was a surprise, but a happy one. Guess it was meant to be. It's been quite a juggle between work, school, and husband&household, but I manage somehow. First trimester was awful, second trimester was euphoric, third trimester is wonderful!

The first trimester I was sick all the time. I couldn't feel the baby yet and I was losing weight. I never could tell how the baby was doing. I called it "peanut" after the embryo diagram I saw in a pregnancy book. I had business trips where I'd take the 7am flight and could barely walk down the jet bridge with out being incapacitated by nausea. The only good thing was that I went from a 34B to a 36C with no tummy yet. My husband wasn't too helpful in the begining. After I started getting a tummy he really came around, and is now super great and I couldn't ask for anything more. I first felt the first baby flutter at week 19. The experience felt bubbly - like I drank too much 7-up. I didn't start to show until week 20.

The second and third trimesters have been truly wonderful! I've barely had any side effects mentioned in "What to Expect When You're Expecting". I'm trying to take a lot of preventitive measures like drinking lots of water, eating whole grain fiber foods, avoiding cafeine and soda, applying skin lotion, and elevating my legs when I get home. I'm vegetarian, but since I've been pregnant I eat a small amount of salmon every once in a while. I take prenatal vitamins. The doctor says everything is going well. They moved my due date ahead of schedule by one week.

I bought two pairs of maternity jeans and some tops that are roomier but not maternity. I started wearing maternity jeans toward the end of the second month. Not because the baby was showing, but because my abdomen was sensitive and bloated, and the looser clothing just felt more comfortable. I have enough outfits that still fit me, that I haven't bought anything else. That is until week 31, I had to buy new pajamas which crushed my spirit a little bit since they were multi-colored stripes and baggy with a ribbon bow tie so they looked like clown pants. But now, mostly I just laugh when I'm wearing them and the belly really gets jiggling which makes me laugh even harder.

Week 32. The baby is still lying transverse, which in a way is good, because I haven't felt any kicks to the ribs or vital organs, as long as the baby moves into the head down position by week 36. I can pretty much always feel the head and the bottom, and sometimes I can trace the countour of a leg. When I put the remote control on my belly the baby kicks it off. My cousin calls that "personality".

Okay, it's week 34, and I don't know what happened here. None of my clothes fit all of a sudden. I have just over a month to go, and darn it I've got to go shopping. I'll have to post a week 34 photo soon. I finished shopping for the baby. Everything is all set in the nursery. I'm just leaving the bassinet and swing in the box until the begining of May because the room is pretty cramped yet cozy. My in-laws who I am close with have their plane tickets from Washington DC to come out and visit us here in June when the baby will be about 4wks old. Hospital orientation is next week. My husband is out kayaking and hiking a lot. I'm so jealous. He takes me out for ice cream sundays to cheer me up, he's pretty sweet to me. Got to get my chocolate fix!

Week 36 and I'm feeling fantastic. The baby dropped so I have more room to breathe, and I've become more active. I took my dog down to the river walk and went for a half mile. The only thing now is that I'm pretty fatigued from this new bizare sleep schedule. I sleep for only 3-5 hours in a row, max. I thought I'd be able to get extra sleep before the baby arrives, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It makes school a little more difficult too.

Week 38. I'm almost there. Things have just begun to get uncomfortable. My joints are getting really loose and then sitting in a computer chair all day at work and then sitting in school all evening is making my lower back really start to hurt. This is my last week of work. I still have four more weeks of school. Should be interesting how the timing works out...

When I told my company I was pregnant they tried to cancel my health insurance and wouldn't honor the federal Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) until I fought for it. They recently told me that I am going to have to take an entry level position until I go on leave. I didn't think this kind of treatment still happened these days. Has anyone else experienced this? Let me know if you want some info to help get FMLA honored by your employer. I'm not at all a lawyer, but I have a lot of useful information I learned along the way.

My school on the other hand has been fantastic. They picked up my health insurance even though I was already pregnant. I think I'm going to leave them a nice contribution in my will. I can't say enough about how awesome they are.

I found this survey and thought I'd post it in my blog too:

Hey there sorry it took so long to reply.. we have had a very busy 2 weeks... i have taken to calling the baby he.. not sure why... guess maybe its cause i want a boy... hubby can call her she if he wants too... lol..

animals is a good neutral theme... my theme is actually gonna be "round the clock" i will send out the invites with a specific time in them that relates to an activity that mommy and baby will be doing for ex: 1:00 nap time... and ask that guest to bring a gift that mommy or baby will need for that time and to place their time card on the outside of their gift... this way when it is time to open presents it will make it very interesting to see what people came up with... also.. i will have another time group vote on the most creative gift (not knowing who the gifts are from of course) for the time groups gifts just opened.. winner gets a prize... just an idea i thought would be fun!

awwww... thats so cute.. im glad you are gonna wait...

i would be so upset if i got all pink outfits at my shower... clothes i can buy but all the needed items are what you really look forward to...

thats awesome you struck gold on the clothes... its great when you can get stuff from others... gently used is better than nothing.. especially when they grow so darn fast you barely get your money's worth out of usage...

what theme did you use at your shower?

ahhh the pronouns... haha.. its the worst.. thats what i hate the most too... i have a hard time calling the little bean an "it"... but its so much easier than he/she or his/her all the time... but.. i have decided that every week i am gonna change the gender... he one week.. she the next .. im gonna put up a calendar on the fridge so hubby knows what sex the baby is that week and we can both refer to it the same.. it should be fun.. lol

the sleepless thing is starting to ease up... i am now really tired around 2 instead of 4 or 5.. and that was down from 7 or 8 in the morning so its working itself out.. i hope yours doesnt get that bad!

How was your weekend?

Hi, thanks for the message. I was looking at your page we are alot alike, well up until just recently. I work full time and am also going to school full time. I was doing a pretty good job of juggeling until last week when my doctor put me on bed rest for IUGR, now I spend alot of time worrying about what was up until then a very easy pregnancy. My baby boy is finally putting on some weight but now I'm terrified anytime I don't feel him moving.

You're almost done! Are you nervous? I can't wait to hold my little man and just know he's safe!

Caracaya - Saturday, 26 April
Thanks for your message. I can imagine how tough it must be to juggle school full time and work. I am fortunate enough to be able to take spring and summer quarter off. I am going to do some legal work before the baby gets here, but in general I finally have time to relax and focus on the arrival of the baby and my new husband right now, which has been fantastic. Hopefully you'll be able to take time off soon, as well. Good luck - you are almost full term!

Thank you so much! I can't wait until I get to talk about Kasen dropping and all of that! For now I am just excited to get started on his nursery decor.
Are you worried about your pets once the baby is here?

thx4grace - Monday, 21 April
Hope you are feeling great and all is going well. :O)

michaela - Thursday, 10 April
It's quite normal at this stage to not sleep well, it's your body's way of preparing you for your little ones arrival!! You'd think it would let you sleep all day to stock up for the sleepless nights, but no!!! LOL!!!

Sabah is named after the place in Borneo that my hubby and I got married in. We had a fab 3.5 week trip there (once in a lifetime) and I actually picked the name whilst we were still on holiday. Gotta go now , she's just woken from her morning nap and we are off to the baby clinic to get weighed. Talk to you later. xx

michaela - Wednesday, 9 April
yeah, i think i'm gonna go get my hair done, manicure and pedicure as a treat. Howare you doing today?

thx4grace - Tuesday, 8 April
I found out I am having a baby BOY! Super excited! I am a single mom with 2 girls, 2 female dogs, and one female kitty, so a male is a very welcome addition! However, my baby's dad has had a 13 lb baby, so kinda scared! LOL. My baby is already a week large for his age.

When the ultrasound tech scans over the gender there is no way you can say no! I did that with my first - asked them to show but not tell and I was right. When I woke up from my emergency c-section I asked where SHE was. :O) We know....

You are such a beautiful pregnant woman! I am envious. I am getting HUGE this pregnancy, but it is soooooo worth it!

Have a blessed day!

michaela - Tuesday, 8 April
I'm still of the cigarettes and my hubby gave up to. I will be off them 1 year on May 1st so am gonna treat myself to something nice then as a reward. Hubby would still havethe odd one when he's had a lot to drink but other than that we are both smoke free. I think it was much easier for me than him as i had a baby growing inside me as incentive. Although i wasn't allowed nicotine replacements, hubby got patches.
Have fun shopping for some new clothes. Keep in touch. xxx

melissa31 - Monday, 7 April
Hi! As far as stretch marks - nope! Not a one! I've heard that it is a combination of genetics as well as how quickly you gain weight. At my last appt (week 37) I was told I was up to 25lbs. I'm very much okay with that. Hopefully this little man comes soon - we're getting pretty impatient over here! Otherwise, how are you feeling?

michaela - Monday, 7 April
HI there, thanks for leaving a comment on my page. I've just read your blog, apart from the morning sickness seems like you are having a textbook pregnancy. Your bump is so neat and i envy you since you have only put on 12lbs. I ballooned and put on about 50lbs but in my defense i did give up smoking, I've only another 21 to loose now. Good Luck with the rest of your pregnancy and please let me know when you have the baby. Do you have any gut instincts as to what sex peanut is? All the best. xxx

bayBontheway - Sunday, 6 April
oh yeah... have you seen the movie office space??? if you havent rent it immediately and watch.. omg..my fav movie .. my husband and i love it and watch it whenever we have a bad day at work!!!!!

bayBontheway - Sunday, 6 April
haha... no problem... im here for the next two trimesters should you need me .. lol.. just remember... the idea is to remind them of the grossly negative impact fertile women can have on a company and back up their reasons for not wanting to pick up the tab on health care for our psycho asses!!!!! No need to worry about consequences... in the end... "the baby made me do it!!!" should hold up nicely in court..... lol.. hope you had a great weekend!

bayBontheway - Thursday, 3 April
lol.. just a small way of stickin'it to the man! And if that doesn't make you feel better... theres always the dwindling office supply phenomena... hahaha "where did the case of paper clips go?" .. or you suddenly come down with a case of prepardum psychosis and suddenly have the urge to sticky note the entire office in multi colour... oh the creative opportunities are endless... I mean... if a disgruntled waitress can spit in your food... why cant other professions play a little game of pay back.. right?...my goodness... pregnancy makes me evil..lol

bayBontheway - Wednesday, 2 April
That is really unfortunate for you. It must be really hard to go to work everyday and know that no matter how hard you work or how great of a job you do for the company, they care nothing of you. It would make me want to put my feet up and rack up the long distance charges to bogus fortune tellers..lol ... I would definitely not be able to give it my all anymore...

Just another example of corporate america at its best!

Well I hope that you find a job with a company that protects it employee's families rather than cripple them. I wish you all the best.

bayBontheway - Monday, 31 Mar
Wow... that is completely disgusting that they would treat you like that. After six years you would think that they would expect their employees to have a family at one point or another.. did they think you were a man? You only get 12 weeks? And it is unpaid? Do you get any type of government maternity funding? How are you expected to support yourself? What if you were single? In Canada, we get up to 52 weeks of maternity and parental leave combined which we are given benefits from the government to supplement our income while we are off work called maternity benefits. Of course we pay for this insurance while we are working.
It is very unfortunate for you to have to deal with all of this especially at this time. I do hope that you find an employer that is less discriminatory. Have you heard of this company doing this to others? In Canada, our employer is required to hold your position for you for a year until you return and they must give you the same or equal position with the same pay plus any bonus' or raises you would have been entitled to had you worked for the entire year. If we were to return to work and we were demoted in position, responsibility or pay, we would have serious legal recourse. Good luck to you!

LisaReader - Sunday, 30 Mar
P.S. I'm a vegetarian, too :-)

LisaReader - Saturday, 29 Mar
The hypnobirthing was great! I was in labor for a total of 22 hours, and I labored at home for the first 17. I ended up having a very complicated labor because the baby was posterior - they had to bring the doctor in, give me pitocin, use forceps, etc. - but ended up having a natural, vaginal birth and the baby was totally healthy (and is now 3 mos. and doing great!). I highly recommend hypnobirthing - I got through back labor with it and everything.

bayBontheway - Saturday, 29 Mar
congrats

bayBontheway - Saturday, 29 Mar
wow.. well first off kudos to you super woman... I do not know how you can be a full time wife, student and employee and now carry a baby.. but wow is all i can say. I am floored by your employers response to your pregnancy! I do believe that they also cannot change your job position either.. ie .. they cannot demote you.. so for them to tell you that you must take an entry level position is also illegal... legally you are entitled to keep your current position or one of equal pay and responsiblity/seniority... they must give you the same when you return from maternity leave. Personally ... a company like that is not worth working for... Still, the crap that you had to deal with... just awful.. considering the emotional roller coaster we are already on during pregnancy. Good thing you dont have much time left to have to deal with them. We get almost a year of parental leave.. how much do you get?
