Wednesday, 18 June I had the glucose test done with my first child and I will have it done again this time... I believe it is a good test, I don't want to take any chances trying to figure out things on my own, I'd rather take the test and let the dr. figure it out to be sure everything is okay. Hope this helps. newgirl -
Wednesday, 18 June I am also having the glucose test in my next appointment. Its to check for pregnancy diabetes. Stone -
Wednesday, 18 June The Glucose test is totally standard. They make everyone do it. Well, a midwife or something might do it differently. The drink is nasty, but the test is important but not difficult or anything. At my Dr. it is a standard test done between 24 and 28 weeks. Some may do it sooner. Even if you found out you got GD all you have to do is change and watch your diet for the rest of your pregnancy and for almost all women it goes away after the baby is born. If the the Diabetes stays after pregnancy then there were already problems you didn't know about. blessedmommy -
Wednesday, 18 June jonesy910 - As for the Glucose Test that is pretty standard I believe with every one that is pregnant, it is common in some women to Get Gestational Diabetes during Pregnancy some only get it during pregnancy and in some it stays, but the testing is standard for everyone I believe usually you will only have to drink that stuff once, plus usually they will have you pee in a cup every appointment to check for sugar and protein.. In my case I have to do another Glucose Testing in my 28th week just because I have a strong family history of diabetes in my family. But to answer your question that is a pretty standard procedure. Wednesday, 18 June yeah Im pretty sure every patient has to drink it but they usually dont have you do it until youre 28 weeks so...thats kind of weird they are giving it to you this early KarenVG -

Thursday, 15 May hi i have had the test done only i have to wait till next thursday for my results, hope everyting goes ok with you and baby x tracylouella -
Thursday, 15 May Im from week 31, but I have a friend in week 17 so I read your post! At about 17-18 weeks your doctor is supposed to do that triple screen blood test, also called AFV. I had it done and mine came back as a "positive" result. The doctor says it is all just a probability test, and not to worry too much. He asked if I wanted to do the amnio. I said yes. The day of the amnio I was TERRIFIED. I went in and they did a fetal assessment and said everythign looks good to them. Then I had to meet with the councellor lady. She explained EVERYTHING to me about the amnio. She says they do an ultrasound while doing the amnio to see where the needle is at all times. She said some ladies do not feel anything at all. Other feel a period like cramping once the needle pierces the uterus, but that is it and it is not exsessivly painful. She says that (for ME) becuase I am thin, not overweight etc the amnio would go on without a hitch. Those who are overweight run a higher risk as they have to go through more fat befire they get to the uterus. She explained ALL risks to me and ALL benefits.
So, I opted NOT to do the amnio. She says my blood work for my age should come back as a chance of 1 in 250 of having a baby with Downe's. My test came back as 1 in 211. So considering the odds were against it, I decided not to do it. I have since had another fetal assessment and things look great.
So I guess what I am saying is you will have everythign explained to you. The ultraouns cannot determine weather or not ur baby has downe's. The only reason they rush you around and get evrything done quickly is becuase they have to know FOR SURE before 22 weeks becuase some women opt to abort the baby if it does in fact have Downe's. You will also be explained the downe's baby's risks after delivery. So do not panic just yet. The only for sure way to tell is through amnio. Everything else is just probabbility.
I hope I helped! KarenVG -
Thursday, 15 May Saw your post, on the 17 weeks. Will be thinkign and praying for you, that is hard to wait for the results. I personally do not go for those tests as I will keep the baby no matter what, and I feel I do not need the worry during pregnancy. Hopefully it will be OK. I will keep you in our prayers, and let me know how things go. lori1399 -

Wednesday, 14 May Congrats on your baby boy!!! ;-) KarenVG -
Wednesday, 14 May Well I went to the doctors testerday and now have my U/S scheduled for May 30th so I have to wait two more weeks!
Congratulations on a boy! We have had the name clayton in other pregnancies too if we had a boy but I think I thought the same I was not liking the clay as much as the clayton, but if you are consistant with calling him clayton and even correcting people who try and shorten it you can get people to remember. So don't disregard it totally yet! It is a great name! Aren't men funny how they think they have conquered the world! HA! My Husband is just the same! Kind of a proving themselves to the world that they can do it!!!HA!
Oh at the appointment yesterday the heart rate was about 136, so I am taking that as a good sign as both my girls were about 146! So still thinking it is a boy and hoping! Also all my cravings are for non sugary things like chicken sandwiches and soup and cheetos!!! But all that is old wives tales so I shouldn't put all my hope into those!!!!HA! Well congrats again, hope you find the name you are perfectly at peace with, you have plenty of time and I can almost guarrentee it will change! Will make sure you know the results of my ultrasound , hope you have a great day and thanks for letting me know! KarenVG -
Monday, 12 May Well both my first and second pregnancies were girls and I think I pretty much thought so to. I really hope this one is boy, I see my OB tomorrow so I will know when I am getting my U/S. Probably in the next week. I am not sure if i feel it is either boy or girl this time cause I hope so much for a boy but figure a girl! Girls are great but I would like a boy as it is my last one. Also have no name for a girl yet!!! Boy name was easier!
Do you have names picked out?? KarenVG -
Thursday, 8 May I read your posting in week 16, what makes you tink you are carrying a girl? Just interested! I am desperately hoping for a boy! (I have two girls!)
