Hi! I'm 42, and feel a little old to be pregnant again. I already have 5 beautiful kids, but very excited about the new addition on the way.

March 7th: Dating scan at Mossman hospital: 10 weeks and 2 days

March 25th: Ultra-sound scan in Cairns: 13 weeks; 7.24cm, maybe 13 wk + 3 days

May 7th: second ultra-sound scan in Cairns. 19 weeks. The technician says Baby is a girl! and the scan showed that she's healthy and developing well. No problems they could see. It's such a relief! And although I was telling myself I didn't mind what gender Baby is, I'm SO HAPPY she's a little girl! So are the other children. :) Also relieved that all development appears to be normal, as they say the risks of problems are so high for a mother my age.

May 19th: Still going well. Some days I feel like September may never come; other times the days and weeks just disappear. We're thinking of naming our little angel "Penny".

June 6th: Passed the 23 week mark, at last - it's finally June... Nice to know little Penny is basically a viable baby now, and she sure is strong. She also seems able to kick simultaneously in my stomach and bladder and kidneys - guess she's getting big! Sometimes seems to be trying to break out through by belly. I'm enjoying getting little baby clothes together and wraps etc. Be lovely when she's finally born! But in the meantime, the days are clicking by steadily. I'm fairly comfortable, all things considered. Had one scary dizzy spell a week or so back, and the varicose veins and calf cramps and backaches are a nuisance, but I get occasional bursts of energy and clean the house or do some gardening. Still enjoy riding my bicycle into town almost every day.

July 10th:
Into the third trimester! Baby seems more and more real and I just love all her kicks and squirms. So far still not too uncomfortable, and I'm feeling fit and well, but the bike rides are getting more difficult! I had my glucose challenge test for gestational diabetes this week and it was fine (I scored 6.0 mmol/l and the cutoff is 7.8 - that corresponds to scoring 107mg/dl with a cut-off of 135 to 140); he also did a full blood count and everything (iron levels etc) is good.

July 31st (week 31): Backaches and leg cramps are tiresome, and the dizzy turns mean I can no longer ride the bike every day, or even go out unnecessarily on my own (doc says it might be low blood pressure or low blood sugar or anemia). Most of the time I feel healthy and strong, though. It's so exciting to be in the final stretch!

August 4th: Midwife & Dr appointments at Cairns Base Hospital. They took 3 vials of blood to check for what might be causing the bruising on my legs and a urine sample to check for a couple of things Dr Guirguis hadn't done. Also gave me lots of info about VBACs and what to take to hospital, besides an ambulance! Both the midwife and doctor seem a lot more genuinely concerned about my risks that Dr G. which is actually reassuring. I do hope to give birth under their care, even tho it means being on my own for the birth and probably until discharge.

August 8th: Dr G and I discussed VBAC vs another c-section, and he says it's up to me, but his judgment (just barely) comes down on the side of c-section, because of the slightly increased risks with a VBAC and the decreased risks of a c-section after having had surgery before. The op would mean more medical control, and we'd have a date, so we'd know when to be in Cairns - Pat and the kids might even be able to come. Also we wouldn't be rushing to Cairns in labor, risking giving birth en route. Recovery would be a few days vs a few hours, but that's okay. Seems to depend mostly on whether Baby decides to come uninvited before we can get a c-section organised.

August 20th: Doctor G. says she's cephalic, everything seems good. :)

September 3rd: Dr G. says she's turned breech. Gonna look into that c-section Monday I guess.

Judi, reading up on these diapers is just too complicated to process. From what you have told me, you recommend buying about 24 flat diapers. Do you recommend pre-folds? Do you recommend cotton? You do not use diaper covers at all, right? Do you use diaper liners? doublers? or do you just keep it simple with the flat diapers and pins?

Handling the five kids is more than one person's job! Its good that your girls are helping you out. That must be fun. We are traveling this weekend to my parent's home approx 7 hours away. Mom is doing my baby shower. I think that will be exciting. Baby is kicking alot these days. Even at night to the point I cant sleep some nights. Its so funny and exciting. I still cannot belive that I am gonna be a mommy!

Oh its driving me insane!! I'm not sleeping, I'm depressed, and there isnt much they can do for me because most meds they use to treat it are harmful to bubs. I have had all the blood test taken but they take 5-7 days to come back. On a good note though i dont have Gestational Diabetes!! Not that it made me happy.. i am going out of my mind, i feel like doing a home C section RIGHT NOW lol.. i know i cant.. but i am going insane!! Plus i have the worry of bub being ok.. i just wanna curl up in a ball and die!!

I guess it's just how we get used to it!

As far as my infection goes....I found out that I failed my 1 hr glucose test and the # was really high so the infection probably hasn't cleared because of the sugar. I got more meds today and we'll see how that goes. I'll have to stay away from the sweets and carbs...what in the world am I going to eat???

Any advice on the 3hr test???? Oh well, it is what it is. I think that's why my baby is so big! Wow, i hope I don't need to get a c-section. I've never had one...

Anyway, will let you know any new news...

Nat eg.

What a great idea! Thank you so much for your advice; I don't know what I would do without this site and all of the wonderful women I've met through it!!

I know what you mean about being so tired! I just got finished some house work.. AUGHH it's SO exhausting!! I find myself needing to take a lot of breaks with my feet up throughout the day, I slept well last night; the restless feeling wasn't that bad, thank God!
I'm glad to hear that having the baby in your bedroom makes things easier; Christian and I are so new to this, so we love to hear all of the stories of what works and what doesn't, even though we know every baby is different, LOL.. at least we have many things to try!
I agree that children are a product of their environment. I'm going to love my little man so much, and I want to treat him as I would want to be treated; that's a great way of putting it!
With all the excitement, I'm also quite nervous! I'm so nervous that I will have a breakdown when he doesn't stop crying..I've heard so many stories about mothers who don't know what their babies want and they cry and cry, which make the mothers cry and cry, LOL! I guess I'm scared of a lot of things since this is my first! I'm afraid to drop him or hold him the wrong way or say the wrong thing to him.. I hope nature just takes its course and tells me how to handle things!

mommyofonlyboys - Monday, 14 July
hi there! sorry, I was gone all weekend up north in our state for a wedding. It was an outdoor wedding, just beautiful, except that we had wind gusts of 30-40 mile per hour winds all day!!! It really freakrd out my wee one, who screamed the whole time, so I ended up in the van with him instead of watching the ceremony! But my husband says it was beautiful! lol
My only "me" time is in the shower! When I get 15 minutes to go online, I am always nursing the baby, so as we even now speak, I am typing one-handed! Sloowww going for sure!
I am surely not complaining though, as I absolutely adore my crew, and would rather spend time together with them than just about do anything else. Time just goes far too quickly, and one day I won't be able to spend as much time with them as they will be leading and living their own lifes. I never want to say I wish I spent more time with them, you know?

Nettie27 - Monday, 14 July
Be thankful for not having the restless legs; it's the most uncomfortable feeling.. it's about midnight here now, and the restless feeling is back.. AUGHHH!! Oh well, it's gonna be worth it! I know it's hard to sleep because of the difficulty of getting comfy. It's amazing what a bigger belly can do to your back!
We don't have a room for our little guy either. We live in a one bedroom condo- very small, but we haven't been able to sell it as the market is very bad right now.. so we're just making the best of it; we know our little guy wont mind staying in a small place for awhile. So, we're getting a travel crib for now; it's all we have room for. We'll put it in the bedroom with us, which I think is pretty convenient for those late nights!
It's so great that your family seems close! I hope so much that Christian and I raise our son to be a good kid, and I think we will! Here's to trial and error! LOL

divegurl - Monday, 14 July
Your kids are still in school? OUrs have off until September! I'm glad you had a good/sunny day! That's always a nice treat. I'll find out tomorrow if I failed of or passed my glucose test....and I don't think the meds worked at all...Gosh..I'm just a mess!!! Hopefully things will be better.eg.

Yer i know what u mean :) I have three girls and i'm having my first boy so i'm even more excited about that to :) xx

claireykin23 - Sunday, 13 July
Hey this is my fourth baby and i'm the same I still find it amazing that there's a new little person growing inside me and I only had my last baby last yr lol! xx

Nettie27 - Sunday, 13 July
Wow, you are so prepared!! I thought I'd wait for my baby shower before getting all the stuff I need, but the shower isn't for another month!
We are in the middle of clearing out our condo to make room for baby, so that's the big project for this weekend. I really need to get my hospital bag together too; so much to do!!!

My brother and sis-in-law were the same way with their kids; they only planned on having two, but their 4th is on the way! But they love it so much, although she's quite uncomfortable right now.. but she knows it's worth it!

Nettie27 - Sunday, 13 July
Thank you so much! I don't know where I'd be without my husband; he's been so supportive throughout my pregnancy! He's wonderful. He's so lucky; he's FAST asleep right now, and I can't sleep b/c my legs and back are getting that weird "restless" feeling. It's almost 3am here in the US and I'm exhausted, but this feeling is keeping me up!!

Nettie27 - Sunday, 13 July
Can I just say that you are AMAZING for having 6 children!! This is my first, and I can't imagine going through this again 5 more times, although I'm really enjoying my pregnancy. I'm feeling better about the weight gain; I've cut a lot of salty food out of my diet the past couple of days, and I already feel lighter! I think a good bit of it is water retention. Even so, I know the rest of the weight will come off if I work at it, and I will. Thank you so much for the encouragement!

Helly - Sunday, 13 July
Hey Judi! Sorry I haven't been keeping much in the loop lately ;P You're looking great, hope you're still feeling well!

29 weeks already - wah! It's kind of cool though. I
ve been doing lots of sewing for the baby... well, some for mine, some for other people's babies ;) I've been sewing a whole bunch of baby slings for my local markets coming up this weekend. And I sewed a baby mobile which I like so much I wanna keep in the living room for us - and a couple of stuffed bunnies, one with bells inside. I've never sewn so much in my life! Must be a good thing.

How's the rest of your family?

divegurl - Saturday, 12 July
Have a wonderful day!

Mama-to-be08 - Saturday, 12 July
Thank you for your response! My doc told me the same thing you did but it just seemed that everyone else I talked to had one later on. I'm glad to hear you were told the same as me. I guess I can relax. My baby's measurements were fine so I'm sure he/she is going to be healthy still at birth! Thank you again!

niknak - Saturday, 12 July
Thanks for your support, Judi. My family knows nothing about him being in jail. It's a hard thing to keep inside, so thanks for being there for me...all the way across the world! Wow!

niknak - Saturday, 12 July
Oh, I don't know when he'll be out.

niknak - Saturday, 12 July
I have gained the same amount of weight, which they are concerned about this early in pregnancy. I know what you mean...I take a lot of pics and when Ty takes a pic of me, and I look at it, I swear there must be another person standing behind me making me wider!
