My birth story!

By 40 weeks I was totally fed up of being pregnant and because my obgyn thought I was having a big baby (he was estimating 9.5lb), I went in for an induction at 40 weeks, 4 days. I had heard horror stories about inductions so was worried but ready for my baby girl to be outta my tummy and into my arms!

I checked into the hospital at 7am on Nov.28th at which time my doctor broke my water. An hour later I was not feeling any contractions and didn't leak much fluid so he broke a bigger hole in my bag of waters. Getting your water broken, for me atleast, was very unpleasant and caused a lot of cramping but it passed fairly quickly. Still, this did not bring on any contractions so we started a pitocin drip and the dose was increased every 15 minutes till I was having strong and regular contractions. I was 2cm dialated for the weeks leading up to my induction and unfortunately after 11 hours of labour (they would not give me an epidural since I was not dialating any further), I had to go for an unplanned c-section because the baby just was not moving down into the birth canal and started showing signs of distress with my contractions. We assumed this was because she was a good size baby.

Anyway, once it was decided I needed a c-section, things moved along really quickly. I'd say the most uncomfortable part of the induction was getting my catheter put in!!! It was an awful feeling. Also the recovery from the surgery is not pleasant when you have a newborn to look after but as far as the procedure itself, it was ok. I felt no pain during it and the only side effects I had were shaking uncontrollably from the spinal block and nausea and vomitting from the morphine for the pain. But all these things aside, I would do it again in a heartbeat. My baby girl is beautiful and perfect in every way (except for not wanting to sleep through the night, LOL). My daughter was not even a big baby, she only weighed 7lb/3oz so it just goes to show that the doctors don't always know everything:)

Hey I read your comment about your daughters weight a couple months ago. Your daughter was weighing about the same as mine right now. 15 lbs at 7 months so I wondering what has happened with your weight issue?

My son isn't as light as your daughter is. He is 18 1/2lbs at 7 months. But, he too is a fussy eater. He's breastfed most of the time and has two bottles at daycare. He is starting to have two meals a day of solids but that is usually only an ounce or two at a time. I see most babies his age having a lot more then that. It's crazy. I know he doesn't take in the normal 30+ounces a day. But, he's healthy and that is what matters. There is a girl at daycare that just turned a year old and is still whereing 9month clothes. Kekoa is bigger then she is. She is totally happy and healthy, just very skinny. Every baby is different and if she is happy and healthy I wouldn't worry about the pounds.

Hey, I just read your comment on your baby waking up thru the night. I've been trying to find something out too. He's 4 1/2 months old and wakes up 2-3 times per night. It seems like my husband and I haven't caught up on sleep since he's been born. My sister-in-law said that I should just let him cry himself back to sleep. But, as a working mother I don't want to do that! Partly because I don't see my baby all day and when I get home I'm just so excited to give him so much love that I don't want him to have to cry because he's hungry. My doctor said that he is quite a bit bigger than average on his weight and lengh. He said he's at 95% and average is at 50%. Therefore he requires more food. So, If he's hungry we feed him. I'm not sure if I shouldn't do this or not or if he's going to just start sleeping all night on his own. He had about 4 times that he slept thru the night. We try to do everything the same, but it doesn't help. It's almost like when he wakes up in the middle of the night to eat he's sleeping while he's eating. So, I truly think he's hungry. Did anyone give you any good advice?

Water can be dangerous if to much is given, no reason to give before 7 months but if you must, an oz is fine once a day around 3-4 months but best to just give more milk. Doc told me no reason to give water since milk is fortified water so just give milk, it is healthier ~ water can flush the system of things it needs so can be dangerous. Not sure how old your little one is to answer better, I give Hunter an oz or milk in a sippy cup to introduce the cup :)

You may gave your baby cooled boiled water. My baby is 7 months old and I have been giving him sips of water from a cup since he was 5 months. He loves it! Just remember not to give too much because your baby will "fill up" on water and not be hungry for formula or breastmilk (which provide nutrients).

i saw your question about sleeping at night and i have a book to recommend. Sleeping Through the Night, by Jodi Mindell. I've just started implementing the suggestions from the book and it's made a HUGE difference in my 3 month old and a very short time. it is like a modified cry it out method - which I used to be against. I'm very Attachment Paretning oriented, but I can't function being sleep deprived and my older child needs me too. I never let my older son cry it out, he co slept for SO long and I just can't do that again. I loved cuddling my kids but I need sleep too. if you have any questions about the book, or what exactly about it works just msg my page. I'd be happy to answer.

Do you have her on solid food yet. When I steady got my son on solids, he started sleeping 9 sometimes 10 hours straight. I would put him down at 7 or so and he would wake around 6am or 7am the next morning. Nearly 12 hours sometime! WOW! Now today he woke up at 3:30 and hubby gave him a bottle for me so I could rest. He woke again around 6:30 and was up for the morning. Now of course, I'm having trouble feeding my son solids for lunch....don't know what happened. He seems to only want it for breakfast and dinner and a bottle for his lunch. I'll just keep him on solids twice a day I suppose until he lets me know something different. LOL Good luck and let me know if I can help in any other way.

Hi there. How have you been doing? Anything new??How is little Emma doing?? Have things gotten any better with her sleeping? I hope so. Is she eating cereal or any other solids yet? If so, how is she doing on them?? We are doing better here. Owen was to the ENT last week and everything looks good so hopefully he will be off of the apnea monitor next week when we go to his appt. Also his head cold turned into bronchitis and he was on a nebulizer and we just finished that up on Friday so things have gotten a little easier. It was crazy there for a while with feeding him solids in the am, then a nebulizer treatment and then I had to pump, etc. He is now eating a variety of solids and seems to be taking to them well. Oh and he is pretty much sleeping through the night in his crib. Once in a while he will get up and I will just go into his room and put my hand on his belly and he goes back to sleep. I have been getting much more sleep and that is helping so much!! He still does not eat off the breast but I am still pumping. That is hard but I still want him to get the breastmilk so I guess I will continue to pump for now. The weather here has been pretty nice so we have been going for alot of walks and staying outside alot. Well, I hope everything is going well on your end. Write back when you get a chance. I hope to talk to you soon. Danielle
