Hello...just wanted to let you know that I had my baby! I had her May 28th...she was 6lbs 8oz, 18 3/4 in long. She came 1 hr after my petocin started, went from 1 1/2-->2-->8. then 2 pushes and baby was out!! They said I could ask for an EPI when I got to 4, but by the time they checked I was already at 8 and there was no time to get any pain meds...:(

I guess a newborn can have problems whatever week they're born, and certainly the odds of complications are higher for a pre-term baby. Hope your friend's little one comes good and thrives. My early ones were kept in hospital until they got to about 2.5 pounds, which took a week or so. Do you hope to use pain medicine during labor? I only had it with the 3rd, who was an emergency c-section. If Baby is early, he/she is smaller, and actually easier to birth, making the medicine less essential, but I also carried one to 43 weeks, and she was big, but I still delivered without medicine. My reason was that it's always safer for Baby not to take anything, and your recovery afterwards is faster. But it's a personal choice - the doctors will give it as long as they judge it to be safe, and they will give it whether or not Baby is early, if you ask. I envy you, being so close to your due date. Mine seems such a long way off!! All the best, ** baby dust **

yeah, it is my first baby!! i'm so excited and can't wait to see her either but don't want her coming quite yet. hehe. well ever since the beginning, even as early as my 18 week sono, she was head down in my pelvic area. when i got my sono again at 28 weeks, she was still in that position and same with 30 and 32 weeks. i think that's her favorite position. i don't know how much further she could go but her head was jammed down in there, from what i could see. =) but yeah, she's been ready to come out for a while now. just really hope she stays in for atleast another 2 to 3 weeks though!! is this your first baby?

hi! mine weren't sooo bad. what happened was, the day before i had my regular pre-natal check up, i got sick. i think from eating bad food. i was throwing up and not eating or drinking so i got really weak and dehydrated. then toward the evening hours i started to feel crampy like i had a stomach ache. i didn't think to call the docs or anything just because i had an appointment already set for the following morning. i went to my check up and what sucked ontop of everything was that i had to get a follow-up pap. after the doc did the pap, i told her what happened the day before. so she then checked my cervix. she said that i was a fingertip dialated and my cervix was feeling soft. she sent me to the hospital to get monitored. they saw that i was having contractions 2-5 minutes apart. i didn't feel them at all though, well i did feel the tightness but didn't think that they were so serious. that's when they gave me the shot. i then went from triage to the sono room on a diff. floor where they checked the baby and my cervix. it was pretty thinned out. .8-1.6 centimeters thick. so they decided to admit me to the hospital right then and there. i didn't have any more problems with contractions. i was monitored daily and everything seemed fine so they were able to send me home with a prescription for terbutaline pills just in case i were to get contractions again that came as frequent as 4 or more in an hour. but you're 35 weeks now. it should be okay!! i don't think that they would try to stop it if your baby were to come this week!

i was just in the hospital for 2 days last week for preterm labor. they stopped my contractions w/ lots of meds! im home now on bedrest till week 37 & have to take pills every 8 hours to keep from having contractions. i did get steroid shots to mature his lungs just in case. its pretty scary, but at least i know he's in there for now. At 37 wks, im off bedrest & the pills, so if i go then it'll be ok! good luck to you.

heatherheart - Monday, 26 May
i was on bedrest since week 28 due to preterm labor; a soft cervix and contractions. i got the steroid shots for maturing baby's lungs and am now 34 weeks today but still on bedrest. i was discharged at 32 weeks from the hospital. they did daily monitoring and everything seemed stable so they were okay with sending me home on the bedrest. if you are having contractions that are more than 4 an hour, they will probably give you a terbutaline shot or pill. they should subside once you take it. they will try to stop the contractions until about 35-36 weeks. that's when i will be able to go off of bedrest, around 35-36 weeks!!! good luck with your pregnancy!!

judi - Monday, 26 May
You're in week 35, you could deliver any time now. They'll call it preterm if the little one makes an appearance before 37 weeks, but he/she is quite mature, and shouldn't have any major problems coming 5 weeks early. I had two born before 33 weeks and after a week in neonatal intensive care, they were fine, both healthy teens, now! And wouldn't it be nice to not have that last few uncomfortable weeks of carrying Baby?? All the best, anyway. Wish you a happy and healthy delivery!
