IT'S A BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

20 week update -

We have our U/S appointment this Friday on the 8th - I cant wait to find out the sex of the baby!!!!! I had a dream last night that we were at the appointment and it was a boy, which is what I've thought all along! I've been feeling him moving around more and more which has been a strange sensation to say the least. My hubby got to feel him for the first time saturday night which was great!!!

I'll update again Friday after we find out the sex for sure!

18 week update -

I feel like I've gotten huge in the last few weeks which would make sense why all of my pre-pregnancy t-shirts are fitting a little more snug! I'm discovering just how important posture is the bigger I get - the more I slouch, the more uncomfortable I feel - ugh! We have an appointment with our midwife on wednesday at 3 - get to hear the HB again - wahoo! Unfortunately have to give blood as well which I could personally do without. Part of me is glad they warned me about it last time, but the other part of me wishes they woulda just surprised me with it. I've thought about the fact that I have to give blood at this appointment every darn day since my LAST appointment... guess I better get used to this needle thing!!! I've felt the baby move twice - once over a week ago and once last friday. Felt like a faint thump in there - not like gas bubbles or a flutter.... everyone is different though! We cant wait until our U/S on the 8th - my mom is flying out from Florida for 3 whole days to be there for it. My husbands mother will be there as well. Initially we were going to have the tech write down the sex for us and my hubby and I were going to open it in private later. We decided that since BOTH grandma's will be there, that we'd just have the tech announce the sex there. My husbands mom was at the 13 week U/S so I cant wait for my mom to be at this one. There's something magical in seeing your baby up on that screen moving around and hearing that HB! It's an amazing experience!!!

Intro....

Hey All - I'm new to the site. My husband and I are due June 23rd with our first baby. We'd been trying to get pregnant since May of 07 and FINALLY got a positive test October 16th! My periods had been irregular since getting off BC but had started to slightly regulate in September. I thought I was due sometime between Thursday and Saturday and had been cramping really bad like I was going to start. I had some VERY light spotting Friday which was a good indicator to me that it was coming. By tuesday I still hadnt gotten it so my manager convinced me I needed to take a test THAT night. I had my hubby make an emergency walmart run at lunch to get a test which he was reluctant to do because we'd taken a few prior withOUT the positive result we were hoping for. That night when he got home, I was already in the bathroom peeing into a cup so I could take the test RIGHT AWAY! I dipped the stick and put it on the counter and we both hovered over it waiting for those 2 pink lines! The first line showed up right away and the second showed up a few seconds later - very faintly! I immediately FREAKED out and started balling like a mad woman! We hugged and were in sheer amazement at FINALLY seeing a positive test! WAHOO!

My pregnancy has been relatively problem free. Had some nausea from weeks 5ish thru 7ish but never actually tossed my cookies. I've been moody like the dickens - my poor husband! Thanksgiving week was especially bad but we managed to get through it! Its hard to explain what goes through your mind when your pregnant and full of hormones until you've been through it! I've experienced doubt and fear and excitement - it's been a whirlwind of emotions that's for sure! My husband has been overly anal about EVERYTHING from what I eat to what cleaning products I'm using around the house! He has decided we needed to switch to all natural cleaning products (oh how I miss Clorox clean up!) and organic fruits and veggies. At least he cares I suppose, although sometimes it gets old!

Anyway - onward and upward. June will be here before we know it and we'll be parents to a new baby... boy I'm guessing. We find out for sure Feb 8th at 1pm to be exact!

Best of luck to all the ladies!!

heathersprk - Thursday, 26 June

SaraEmily - Thursday, 26 June
So how are things?!?!?!?!?!?

pregnanthairdresser - Thursday, 26 June
Ooo I hope your having him!!!!

colleen - Thursday, 26 June
OOOOHHH!! I hope this is it for you! You never know, they usually have an estimate of time when they come. Look at my doc and the whole she could be here any minute-she was only off by 4 days-LOL! And Haylie was early, too. She went to the pediatrician for the first time today, so I got to dress her up! It's been really rough with the breastfeeding-my milk hasn't come in yet. So of course I'm worried that I'm starving her. I've been giving her formula as well, but the ped. told me today to cut it to make her more hungry! She must have seen the look on my face, b/c she said, "don't worry, I won't let your baby starve!" So MIL and daddy have succeeded in knocking Haylie on her butt! She's been asleep for over 5 hours now!!! I hope this is it for you-I know you don't want the added stress of having your mom be gone and you still being pregnant. I think you'll be done by the weekend! I'm getting ready to upload some more pics, so check em out if you don't have that baby!!!

pregnanthairdresser - Thursday, 26 June
Ah man..why are our babies so stubborn!!! I got my docs appt tommorow ill let you know..lol..

pregnanthairdresser - Wednesday, 25 June
I hope so.. For both our sakes..lol

heathersprk - Wednesday, 25 June
Well maybe youll go to your appt and they will say your 7cm and youll be sent immediately to deliver!!! I hear you about the end date, thats exactly how I felt. I didnt want an induction but I didnt want to be preggo forever either!! Interesting about the bottle... I think Ill go find some seriously slow flow nipples and give it a try this weekend. Bry is such a good eater that I cant imagine him having a problem. I mean if hes hungry Im inclined to think he will eat no matter what its coming from. Thats interesting about the paci too. Well we blew that one but we really didnt have a choice... B was set on sucking his fingers and the only way to discourage it was to give him a paci. I really didnt want him to suck his fingers cause babies that do end up with orthodontic problems. Plus when they get older you can take a paci away you cant take their fingers away. Hes fine with it though it hasnt impared his ability to feed at all LOL. Hes an eater! Ughhh actually I gotta run he is so fussy today he will not let me put him down... its almost noon and I havent even been able to get dressed yet!!

colleen - Wednesday, 25 June
How are you? Did your mom get in ok? We got home from the hospital today, and now I'm up all night watching her making sure she's ok! It's much easier when you can hand them off to the nursery to get a few hours of shuteye in the hospital! What's the news on the homefront? Any more dilation? When's your next appointment? I can't wait for you to have him!!!

pregnanthairdresser - Wednesday, 25 June
Well good luck tommorow at the doc's.. Hopefully you wont have to be induced.. (i hear its the devils drug..if you see a few comments below..lol) LEts hope they come..

mommi2b - Wednesday, 25 June
I just bought some bran cereal - wheat'n'bran or some crap like that! Haven't had any yet...

I will ask the dr about the stripping membranes thing. Sounds like it hurts though and it probably won't even do anything for me! All she said last time was my cervix was softer and thinner. But that's it. Nothing else out of the ordinary has been going on. I go to the dr again tomorrow morning so we'll see if there's any change. My due date's this Friday so I'm going see what their policy is and what she thinks about inducing me...

Is your mom there? Did she get there yesterday, or next Monday? That would be great if you go into labor while she's here so she can spend time w/ her new grandbaby!

heathersprk - Tuesday, 24 June
Oh yeah youll never make it to the 30th! But I know its comforting to have set end date in sight thats how I felt too. Cramps ehhh... yup thats how I felt. I never have bad period cramps but that last few days I had crazy cramps and I said the same thing they werent like contractions but trust me they are the beginning. Youll never make it to this weekend. Yeah no more work!! I cant tell you how glad I am to be home... I was thinking that earlier actually. B is 10 days old if I were just on maternity leave I would be going back to work in less than 5 weeks and leaving him. I would be so depressed if that were the case. Im so lucky to be able to just stay home and enjoy him as much as I want. So Im wondering, did they tell you in your breast feeding class how long to wait before introducing a bottle??? Ive heard anywhere from 2-6 weeks. Ive been pumping and I would really like to be able to give him a bottle primarily when we are in public somewhere. I went to lunch with my mom and no sooner than the food comes he starts crying and I have to run out to the car to feed him. It would have been nice to be able to just give him a bottle of pumped milk but i dont want to too soon. I dont want to confuse him but since he uses a nipple shield anyway thats shaped like a bottle nipple anyway so I dont know how it would confuse him really... just wondering.

pregnanthairdresser - Tuesday, 24 June
Nope..and no sign of anything.. How bout you? How u holding up?

heathersprk - Tuesday, 24 June
LOL, yeah the end of the week sounds reasonable. Funny Russ wanted me to go on a wednesday too. Little stinker though, we knew and liked the midwife on wednesday, thursday and friday and he waited until saturday!! LOL. I agree about the contractions that was my fear too Im glad I got lucky with the water breaking that was more clear cut... maybe youll go that way too. And I hear you about having time for the epi too. As fast as I progressed at the end I almost missed out. If Id have waited another 10-15 minutes he would be coming out and they wouldnt have given me more epi meds when they started to wear off. I think the only reason they called him for a refresher for me was because we all thought I was like 5cms! Once they discovered I was almost complete the Dr was already there giving me the boost so I guess he was willing to proceed. Oh I never told you theres this friend of a freind girl that was preggo she was due a week before us. She went to her normal week appt and they hecked her only to find out she was 7cm dialated!!! They sent her right over to the hospital and she delivered within an hour!!! Can you imagine!! NOT KNOWING you were that close to giving birth??!! I mean seriously what if she hadnt happened to have had an appt that day!!?? Sheesh its all so confusing. I guess take comfort though that in the grand scheme of things very few babies are born on the side of the road. I guess it is true that when it is time youll really know it. Plus with you being over your due date, should you show up and not really be in full blown labor they will probably be willing to keep you anyway and help get things going that would be good too. I know I wish we could hang out and our little boys could have little baby play dates!! LOL how cute would that be!!

SaraEmily - Tuesday, 24 June
lol, she was blessed w/ it and it completely skipped me. . .oh well. : )

SaraEmily - Tuesday, 24 June
Staying home for a year would be wonderful. It would be great if you could find something to do online. I have a friend who is looking into some kind of medical transcribing that she can do online.

My sis probably feels like she has a daycare, lol, she has 2 boys of her own ages 8 and 5 and then my son who is 7 and Emily who will be 6 in August. . .and now a new baby on its way, lol. Luckily she is amazing. I swear she will have the kids all day. . .go over and pick them up her house is clean, they have done crafts and dinner is on the oven. . .I hate her, lol.

SaraEmily - Tuesday, 24 June
I am very lucky when it comes to child care. My older sister is a stay at home mom and she watches my children. . .it is perfect. Her kids and my kids go to the same elementary school, so she picks them up from school too. And, she lives like 5 minutes from where I work, we live in a small town, so I will be able to go and spend my lunch break w/ the baby. And, then I have my mom. . .when she isn't working she has the kiddos. She has my 2 kids for the summer. She works for a headstart program and has the summer off. . .so my kids get to stay w/ grandma and sharpen up on their reading and math skills too. . .I can't complain about child care. And, I can't imagine trying to work in the cost for daycare. What are your plans?

SaraEmily - Tuesday, 24 June
Yep, just the pic not a disk.

Woo Hoo on leaving work! 12 weeks off is great. I get 8 weeks since I will be having a c-section, but only because I pay for disability insurance every month, oh well. . .I have to be thankful for what I get. Right now trying to pay up on all the bills so that I can make it with 60% of my paycheck, which really sucks. Hopefully by the time my kiddos have babies there will be a better system in place. I heard in Canada you get a year off with pay, how fabulous would that be, of course they also have health care figured out. . .hope we catch up to them one of these days. : )

SaraEmily - Monday, 23 June
Nope, I didn't have to pay for the shots. Luckily I went to a Women's Imaging Center instead of the hospital and they were so much more on top of things. . .hopefully will go back there for my last ultrasound. I would post the pics, but sadly am not too computer savy and would have to go to my sis' for a scanner. . .we will see. . .lol.

Is your doc appointment tomorrow?

heathersprk - Monday, 23 June
Yeah they probably are real contractions. What they told me at the hospital was a lot of the contractions you feel in the end are "real" meaning they make you dialate. But until they are 3 minutes apart and regular they just dont say you are in active labor. Actually I dont really understand that cause when I got to the hospital they said I was having contractions 3 minutes apart BUT they werent lasting long enough to be called active labor. To be honest though some of the BH I had were every bit as painful as the "real" contractions. The problem I have with contractions were, that at least with the pitocin, they last so long that they actually come one on top of another, you cant even catch your breath in between. It was towards the end when the epi started to wear off that they felt like sharp stabbing pains but I was practically complete by then. Yes I did lose my plug. After she stripped my membranes I was spotting or so I thought but it didnt quit, it briefly quit but then the next day I started spotting again and it was gooey gross. It kept on coming out too so I figured thats what it was. But I was 3cm when I started losing the plug and still 3cm when my water broke. I was more effaced but I didnt dialate past 3cm until the started pitocin. I know it feels like you will be preggo forever but think at least you are haivng all these signs there are always those preggo women that go in on their 40th week only to find that NOTHING is going on, no contractions no dialation or anything, that would have to be discouraging. I keep checking in cause I know youll have him any minute. It will come and go and youll think geez, did it even all happen? Yeah B is growing up so fast Im sure hes hit 6lbs by now... none of his clothes fit still though not even his newborn things LOL. Oh well I hope he stays little for a long time. I get absolutely nothing done around the house anymore. All I want to do is snuggle him. Hopfully hubby doesnt start getting upset or anything. Congrats on your last day WAHOOO I dont know how you lasted so long, youll love staying at home. I keep checking the weeks pages too its so crazy Ive been hanging out on this site since like week 10 so many of the names are so familiar and now they are all going away everybody is popping! I cant wait until you deliver and can join me on the 0 months page I dont know any of those people hardly. Oh yeah speaking of which, it says on that site that babies cant grip anything yet but Bryson surely can! Infact the minute he came out they laid him on my tummy I reached out to him and he grabbed my finger and held it so hard! That what made the tears start flowing. He actually wanted to hold my hand for comfort the minute he was born. He still grabs onto my fingers... he puts his hand on his head all the time too and its amazing to me cause in all the u/s's he had his hands on his head, it amazing to think that this really is the same little baby I peeked in at all those times. Its all crazy...

SaraEmily - Monday, 23 June
Thought I'd check in and see if anything happened over the weekend, lol.

My 2nd ultrasound went well and I even got some 3D shots. . .looks like all is well. : )

heathersprk - Monday, 23 June
Oh yeah and about the bleeding. Yeah it feels like a lot to me especially the first few days. Im still bleeding but its more like a period now. Your pads are fine. They will give you super duper ones at the hospital to use the first few days. B's umbilical cord came off last night too by the way. Its like hes almost grown... =(

heathersprk - Monday, 23 June
Well thats nice of him to be so cooperative waiting for your mom lol. I think you are very close though... really so many of the things you are saying are exactly what I was feeling right before my water broke. I cant believe hes a week old!!!! Yeah I believe that about the menopause, I feel like Im nuts. I guess at least Im not depressed. Well I thought about you all weekend wondering if youd be having him. ANY DAY!! When is your mom coming???
