MY BIRTH STORY
It all started with my normal Dr appt on july 23rd. I already knew I was 4 cm dialated and fully effaced so at this point it was just a waiting game. None of my Dr's could believe that I was so progressed , being that it was my first baby and I wasnt due till the 28th. When I went in, they found my blood pressure was high for the second appointment in a row, so the dr said he wanted to set up my inducement!!! At that point I was terrified. I wanted to have this baby out, but i really didint want to be induced. Then the dr came back in the room and told me I was being induced the next day!
July 24th-After getting NO sleep because I was too nervous, I called the hospital at 7:30am as instructed to find out when I should come in. They told me to head right over! I woke up my husband, Jimmy, hopped in the shower and headed to the hospital. After getting admitted downstairs, we headed up to L&D!! At this point it was a bit after 8:30am. I got settled in my room and a nurse came in a hooked me up to the monitors. There wasnt a whole lot going on, no real contractions so at that point I was just waiting for the Dr, but another woman in active labor had just come onto the ward, so they had to deal with her first. At about 9;30 Dr Slavish came in to see me. She said she was going to break my water and start the pitocin and get things going. I was also told that since I was 4 cm I caould have the epidura at any point that I wanted it.
So the Dr broke my water and all I could say was ewwwwwww. It was a yucky feeling and I cannot stand feeling damp, so it was really bad for me. The contractions started right after they broke my water but they werent too bad. My nurse came in every 15 minites to check on me and after her 3rd time in she asked if I needed pain meds. I said no, I was ok for now. Then without telling me, she tirned up the pitocin on her way out! Sneaky nurse. By the time she came back in I was climbing the walls and I asked for " the nice man with the cart to come in a make it go away". I was really nervous about having an epidural, I dont like needles, but at that point I really did not care! 10 minites later I was a happy camper. No feeling at all, no contractions, no nothing. It was awesome.
They told me I should dialate about a cm an hour so now it was just waiting and trying not be hungary. We watched TV...learned all about Lindsay Lohans DUI and I got to watch my soaps. The hubby was wonderful, I kept telling him to go eat or walk around, but he stayed. I had a couple visitors during the day to help make time go faster. They checked me at about 2 and I was about 7 cm. The next time they checked me was about 5:30 and I was at 10, but I still needed to thin out a tiny lip of cervix, so they put me in a weird looking yoga type position and i hung out for about 10 minites like that before I felt the pressure in my bottom that they had told me about.
I paged the nurse, and she came in and set me up to push. I was doing awesome, moving the baby really well, so they called in Dr Slavish. Then a woman in the next roomstarted pushing with her 4th child so they told me to stop pushing for a while. As the dr was leaving we all playfully told her to tell the other woman to hurry up! And she did, we heard her baby cry about 10 minites later. The only problem was that when i stopped pushing my contractions went away, so they had to re-start the pitocin. At this point I was about an hour and a half into pushing and I was TIRED! I was also having really bad acid reflux and every push was bringing up acid into my mouth. Finally at 7:39 pm on July 24th I pushed Chase into the world. This gift came in at 8lbs 7 oz and 21 inches long, and has brought a smile to our faces that has not gone away yet. We are truley blessed!
