My name is Emily. My husband and I are expecting our first child! We were married back in August, but have been together for 7 years. We are so excited and so are our families! I hope that, other than my debilatating morning sickness, the rest of my pregnancy is smooth. Have I mentioned how excited I am!!! I'm looking forward to getting a big belly! Grow baby, grow!

Saturday, 20 September Hello, no we haven't tried the gripe water. Funny you said the bathroom thing because my little guy loves the blow dryer. Anytime I blow dry my hair if he is crying he stops. And yesterday he was crying, crying so I turned it on and he fell right to sleep ( it was only a short while). His crying is so random so it is so hard to tell what he wants or whats going on. Another thing I know works is loud music or my signing. I love music and always sing and especially listen to it in the car, so if he is crying and won't stop, those have worked a few times as well. Everyday is so different. Is your little one still having crying fits all of the time? megcantwaitforherfirst -

Wednesday, 17 September My daugher April is 6 weeks this week as well and not really smiling iether! My son was the same, but you wouldn't know it to see him now! This past week or two, she is also crying a lot when she is awake-not much happy time! I liked it better when she slept more! The doctor at her 6 wk checkup said it is normal-that the crying peaks at about 8 wks average, then will get better. I sure hope so, for both of us! eastern-Canadian-Lady -
Sunday, 14 September thank you.
How have you been? and Baby?
Abby's jaundice started to really looking better by Wednesday. Her eye colour was super gross before. The white of her eyes was completely yellow almost like the icons on the bottom of the page when you write a reply. It's now pretty white.
The only problem now is that she has an eye infection. I have no idea where it came from. My doc couldn't see her so we sat in the emergency room. It came on suddenly, and the doc and nurses kept asking if it was a vag delivery or a section. vag. but why would that matter this long after? I don't have anything anyway. She hates the cream. It goes under the bottom eye lid. Abby's eye looks a little better now than it did.
Abby was checked for weight before being discharged. She was 6 lbs 8 oz, that was Thursday. At the hospital's breastfeeding clinic last Saturday, she was checked for her jaundice and weighed in at 6 lbs 14 oz. At her one week check on Monday she was WAY up 7 lbs 12 oz. At the emergency room on Friday Abby was 7 lbs 9 oz. it's quite a difference for my little monkey in one week, LOL.
Abby sleeps like crazy. I miss her bc she is never awake! She is generally awake for feeding, then for about a half an hour a day besides that, and sleeps the rest. I try to wake her and no way, not even changing her diaper changes wake her most of the time. (My first was like that too.) She wakes to feed about every 5 or 6 hrs.
My pain level is much less now. I still get sore if I even try to walk, but at least it's not like it was. I haven't needed my tylenol 3 or extra strength in about 4 days. It's very exciting!
I can't believe how fast the time is flying. Your baby is already a month old, and mine will be two weeks on Tuesday. I haven't gotten a thing done, so where did the time go?!?
Any plans for Thanksgiving?

Friday, 12 September I know it sounds bad, but it makes me feel better that I am not alone going thru this fussiness phase. And OMG if it lasts another 2mths!!! We have tried a lot of different things as well. Last night I just had to let him lay there and scream, nothing else worked. Someone else that posted mentioned gripe water, but I am not sure he is fussy because of an upset tummy?? But it is worth a try, so I am going to pick some of that up and try that too. Good luck and let me know if you find something that works, and I will do the same! model2mommy -
Friday, 12 September I know what you're going through..ask your pediatrician about gripe water...that should help relieve the gas..hope this helps wedward -
Thursday, 11 September My baby was has a problem with screaming too and I have just discovered that he has a hard time calming himself enough to go to sleep so whenever he starts fussing I rock him and give him a passy until he falls asleep. Takes a good amount of time but he is better now. He was just screaming all the time because he was tired and couldn't make himself o to sleep. Hope it helps. ameylocket23 -

Wednesday, 10 September The lactation consultant did check my stitches at the hospital on Saturday. She didn't even see the problem AT FIRST. Then I pointed to the painful spot. She said that I had tore a stitch out somehow, and that there was a tear that wasn't fixed that was right next to my stitches. No wonder I was in such pain!!!! She said it was likely badly swelled at the time, so they didn't see it to stitch.
I am so happy. Until Abby was born, I had never been so happy to hear a baby cry. It sure was a difficult pregnancy! I really wasn't sure what the outcome would be. It makes me appreciate the good days a whole lot more.
We took Abby to the breastfeeding clinic on Saturday. The nurse checked her weight, jaundice level, and my breasts. (I have a bad sore on each side.) She told me to try holding the baby in a different position, and gave me a prescription ointment to relieve pain.
Afterwards, we went to the nursery where Abby had her first hearing test. I know that normally a nurse would say no, that they don't retest, especially babies that have already been discharged, but there were no babies in the nursery at the time, and she didn't look too busy. She asked for Abby's name to locate the file, but couldn't find it. She said that she would do it for us anyway, just to ease our minds. She passed with both ears. We are very happy.
On Monday we had her one week check up at the doc's office. When Abby was born, she weighed 7 lbs 2 oz.
Then by Thursday she went down to 6 lbs 8 oz.
On Saturday at the breastfeeding clinic she had gone up to 6 lbs 14 oz. Well, it must have been the help from the clinic on feeding positions that helped, bc by Monday at noon, Abby was up to 7 lbs 12 oz. She had gained almost a full pound in 46 hrs!!! HOLY CATS. I would hate gaining that much weight that quickly, LOL. (I also asked the doc about getting a prescription for xylocaine, a local anaestetic, to put on stitches. He said yes, and gave me a prescription to get filled. YAY!)
Since yesterday at 2 in the morning, she was only awake for about 20 minutes total until supper time tonight. (more than 36 hrs). It is pretty scary at times, so I called the dr. office back, then the breastfeeding clinic. The doc's office told me to take her to the hospital, The hospital told me to take her to the doc's office. Bottom line was that the clinic at the hospital only has a nurse, no doc. The doc's office was filled, so they didn't have room for her. The hospital said that if the doc's office said that she had gained a pound since saturday, then she is fine, but if it keeps up then to take her in.
I did my best to wake her up, and gave her a luke warm bath, then fed her. She tried to sleep again, but I kept making noises and bringing out toys, then I got her dressed. I kept her awake for about a half hour. Then I wasn't as worried. She slept most of the afternoon.
The bleeding still is heavy, and bright red. I need to lay down a lot, which helps. I don't know if your hospital would tell you the same thing as mine did, but they said to ice the area to keep the swelling and bleeding down. They told me to get pads wet and place them in a freezer bag and keep them in the freezer. Use as needed. One nurse had given me one at the hospital and it was SOOOO uncomfortable. Then when I needed a new one, the next nurse on duty gave me a facecloth to put over the top of the pad. That was much much better. I wonder why they didn't tell me this with my last one? Anyway, I do it at home. I thought I would pass on the info.
I have had crying spells since labour. Partly pain, partly trying to adjust to being a mother of 2 after thinking Abby wouldn't make it, partly being over tired. I don't know. I just seem to cry for no reason. today I cried bc I was worried about baby Abby sleeping too much. I think I am crazy, LOL>
I hope my crying spells go away soon.
I wish you luck with everything. I'm sure that you must be very tired and busy, so if you don't get a chance to respond for a while, it's no problem.
I must go back to lay down. I think I'm going to take an extra strength tylenol and a tylenol 3.
take care, and ttyl

Monday, 8 September Heya.. it feels really strange being a mum of 2 now.. its hard trying to divide my attention between them, but the baby takes up sooo much of my time!! Daleys not really fussed about Cici-Melody at the mo, guessing its cuz she doesnt really do a lot at the mo.. just shits, eats and sleeps... boring really!! babies are sooo cute though.. kinda shame that they grow up so quickely!! how old is ur lil bundle of joy now?? cici is 10 days old, but shes sooo strong, ive never known anything like it in a newborn, and it makes me forget that shes so young at times!! x bkbanwait -
Wednesday, 3 September why not pump some n measure it b4 giving it to her eastern-Canadian-Lady -
Tuesday, 2 September Oh, sorry to hear that! I didn't really find ovol to work well either, but my friends said it was good for them. I thought it was just my baby that it didn't work for, LOL.
Did the nurse show you an exercise to get gas out? I was shown one, where you lay baby on a couch or bed, face up. Then you move baby's legs together bringing the knees right up close the babys chest/tummy. repeat for about two minutes, then burp baby. If that doesn't work, you can do it again about 15 minutes later. It makes gas come out one end or the other. That did work for me. I suggest it.
I hope this helps some. I know it can be frustrating, and make you feel sad, bc you don't like to see your baby in pain. I think every mother has been there. How old is the baby now, 2 weeks? How much weight did she gain so far? I'm sure she must be beautiful if she looks anything like her mother!
I am doing well. Some contraction, but nothing worth noting. I can have one and then not have another for 7 hrs, LOL. Labour seems a LOOOONNNGGG way away. By midnight tonight I will be finished 6 of my 7 due dates. The next one, which was the only one that was not officially given, just discussed bc of baby's size at the time, was for Sept 12. Last Monday at my ob appointment the ob said he thought I would go either that same day, or the following day. I was 3 cm, 80 - 90 % effaced, with membranes (bag of waters) bulging. I guess my baby is stubborn like mommy, LOL.
I'll let you know if anything progresses. You're in my thoughts. ttyl hanna08 -
Sunday, 31 August My baby girl has been having the same problem , it's as if there is nothing wrong with her for 10 seconds then she just screams as if someone pinched her .. its so scary. I use a herbal remody that uses almost the same thing as gripe water. It's Anise seeds that i boil in water for 10 minutes then i drain the seeds from them and let it cool .. totally cool down. I dont give her too much of it . momtobeeagain -
Saturday, 30 August sugar water is not the same as gripe water, gripe water has fennel extract which is meant to help your baby get rid of gas, i also give it to my 19 month old boy who is teething it seems to help for a little while, i tried other brands but baby bliss seems to be the best for us; i also use mylicon gas relief drops, which also help... I also take valerian root before going to bed it seems to help my baby sleep better at night... hope it helps momtobeeagain -
