Hi everyone! My name is Kara and I am 13 weeks pregnant today (12/18). I had my second doctor visit 3 weeks ago and had my first ultrasound. It was so awesome to see the baby, which looked like a skeleton or alien, but was so cute at the same time. The heart beat was great the doc said. I hope to get more energy soon since that is about the only thing that has been slowing me down. Lucky me, I had no morning sickness. I can't wait to go back to the doc at the beggining of the year. Until then, I hope all is well to everyone!

12/26/07

I am now out of my first trimester. I am excited about that. Quick update: everything is still going good. My next doctor's appointment is next week. I woke up a few mornings ago with a belly though. That was odd, but I am excited because now it doesn't look like a beer belly, it actually looks like a pregnant belly. Until next week. Hope everyone had a great Christmas! (We got our first pair of baby shoes!) :)

01/04/08

Yesterday I went for another check up. I didn't know we would do another ultrasound. "B" (what we call the baby for now) is growing at a normal rate and has a good heartbeat as well. I got new pictures and was told that next visit we can find out the sex. How exciting!! I can't wait until January 31st.

1/21/08

Ok, so I have a week and a half left to find out the sex of the baby. I am too excited and anxious that it is going by so slow. I have been feeling really good lately. Still pass out at around 9:30-10:00 every night, so no staying up late for me. I have yet to feel the baby kick. I am so worried that something is wrong, but I know that others have not felt their baby either so it makes me feel better. I hope it is soon though. Still growing and getting big and having a problem finding maternity pants that are long enough. Thank god it is hot down here and can roll the pants up into capri's. I had to buy jeans that were just a couple sizes bigger just to have a pair of pants for if it is a little chili outside. Anyways, can't wait till next week. I will update you then!! :)

1/31/08

Ok, I just got back from the doctor and we are having a baby boy!!! Little Mason Lee. It was so exciting to see him again. The nurse said he was one of the squirmiest babies she has tried to measure in years, so while she was busy trying to get him to move for about 10 minutes, I got 10 minutes of heaven just laying there watching him already starting trouble. Haha! He was growing at a normal rate, everything still on track, and his heartbeat was wonderful. I got some great pictures of him and can't stop looking at them right now. I can't wait to meet my little man!!!

2/29/08

Well, I went to the doctor yesterday and had a check up. We got the results back from our u/s of all little Mason's organs and everything looked great the doc said. We listened to his heart beat which was also good she said, she didn't tell me the bpm, but I was glad to hear it. As far as everything goes right now, everything for Mason is going wonderful. The only thing she said was to watch my weight. Me!!! I have always been told to gain weight. I have put on 20 lbs. Now, I was a little underweight when I got preggo, but I thought it was weird having someone to tell me to watch my weight. Honestly, I have no idea where it went. It does not look like I have gained 20 lbs. at all. I think it is all going to my thighs and butt. Lol! I don't care though as long as my baby is healthy, I will give him all the nutrients he needs. 6 months already. How time flies!

3/26/08

Ok, finally to the 3rd trimester!! Yeah! I had my diabetes test today which wasn't as bad as I remember it being with the 3 hour test. Hopefully nothing comes up abnormal so I have to do the 3 hour one, but I have this feeling I will have to anyways. Got a good face shot of the little prince today and man are his cheeks big. He definatley has his dads cheeks. I can't wait to be able to squeeze those fat cheeks of his. Right now he is feet first. Sitting indian-style right on mommy's bladder almost making her pee on herself about 5 times a day. It has been that way for about 2 weeks so I was not surprised when the doc said he was feet first. She didn't seem concerned about it yet so hopefully he turns in the next weeks ahead. As of everything else, we are doing good, we will go back in 2 weeks to get our blood test results. I will give the next update then. Baby dust to all!!!!!! :)

4/23/08

Went for another check up today and everything was great still. He is measuring just fine and his heartbeat is still the most beautiful thing to hear. Only 9 more weeks to go, (hopefully a little sooner) then I can hold my little man and enjoy being away from work for 7 1/2 weeks. Yipee!!!! My baby shower is this Saturday and I am so excited! Dylan and I just have the blinds and curtains to hang up in Mason's room, then we are done in there until we get our baby shower gifts. I am starting to get so ridiculously tired, my back hurts 24/7 and the only releif it gets is when I lay flat on my back. My RLS has come back 3x worse than before and I have got to constantly keep moving, so there goes resting. Leg lifts work, but some days I have to do alot more than others. I go back to the doc in 2 weeks, I am really hoping to have an u/s then so I can see his chubby cheeks again. Until next time, hope everyone can hold out a little longer. We are almost done!

5/7/08

Well yet another check up and everything is still great! He has got a strong heartbeat and I actually lost 2 ounces. I know not much, but when you go from gaining 5-8 lbs everytime you have been to the doc, it was kind of a shock to me. Doc says I am all baby. Thank god! I did not want to have too hard of a time losing baby weight. After next appt. I will go every week. They will check my cervix next time which I am excited about, but then again I hear everyone saying that it is painful, so I am inbetween. I hope he starts dropping soon so I can breath again, but my luck he won't drop until like 2 days before. Lucky me!

Hi, I have been very lucky and never needed iron tablets but have been border line diabetic with all pregnancies which is a bit scary but doing good and all the results have come back normal, I just have to be careful with the amount of sugar I have but luckily for me I am very much liking salads and baked potatoes, oh and bacon cobs too, so no sweet things thankfully, have lots of fibre because the iron tablets may cause some constipation, hope all goes well, what do you call childminders where you are? x

wilsonwilson - Sunday, 30 Mar
Hi, sorry been so long replying I have come back off holiday. A childminder is someone who cares for children whilst their parents are at work and I also do respite care at weekends for children with special needs I love my job so much I am doing college to open up my own place to look after children with special needs.
How are you doing with your pregnancy? x

sexymama021 - Saturday, 29 Mar
I lost a lot of blood during my first delivery. They put me on iron, and yes it does make you constipated :( You should talk to your doc about fiber capsules. I bought a huge generic bottle from walmart for 5 bucks. Take like 3 or 4 a day and you wont have any problems. I am taking them now because I have been sooo constipated with this pg. Anyways, good luck :)

Thanks for the comment on my getting a job..I have a part time job,but it's not enough to support myself and my 3 yr old right now,and since my boyfriend and I aren't married,I can't be on his insurance and he can't live with me for other reasons..So I asked for a little state assistance and they want me to look for another job until the baby gets here..lol,I just don't know if anyone would hire me considering that by the time I'm trained I'd go on maternity leave..lol..Congrats on your pregnancy though..not too much longer for either of us:)

A good way to get your baby into the correct position is to lay on the floor with your arms and face flat on the floor and your butt up in the air. It's called the polar bear position. Also talk to your baby, but you still have time for him to turn though. I think its between 32-34 weeks they want the baby to turn.

hey, sweetie! Being a stay-at-home mommy is not easy and we are a bit financially strapped. However, my two girls are starting preschool next month and that costs about $420 a month or so (per child). Staying home with your little man is a good idea if you can do it, it will save you money. We are also applying for WIC which gives you checks each month for stuff like milk, peanut butter, eggs, beans, etc. while you are pregnant. After you give birth you get 8 cans of formula each month or extra food if you are breastfeeding. Also, we are applying for TANF which is Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. Sounds pathetic, but it basically means that the government will give you money for financial assistance, money for food and money for daycare if you qualify. It is a great help especially now when the economy is kind of crappy and things are so expensive! I definitely would not trade being able to stay home with my babies for anything in the world. It creates so much bonding and you get to enjoy every moment and not worry about his safety with people you don't even know. Let me know if you have any other questions, I am very glad to help!

My first child dislocated my rib once... he kicked at the exact same time as I sneezed, and pop, out it went. I found that going to the chiropractor and going to yoga really helped my posture a lot more so when the baby does kick in the ribs it doesn't hurt quite as bad

It's not hard at all. It will be hard for me over the summer when we will have a two year old, a nine year old daughters and a new born baby boy, but I know that everything will be alright. As long as I have the help from my husband everything will be alright. I chose to stay at home when I was pregnant with our two year old daughter, so I could go back to school for my associates degree. I will receive my associates in criminal justice during the winter semister of 2009 since I'm taking the spring and summer semister off because of the children. The good thing is that I'm an online student. The spring of 2009 I will begin my bachelor's degree in criminal justice. Talk it over with your husband or boyfriend about not working after you have your baby. Just make sure you will be alright with money for you and your baby.

Best of luck deciding-there are lots of good daycares out there, you just have to check them out I think. Your son will not none the worse for it I am sure! We aren't finding out the sex-in our city, they actually don't tell you as a standard procedure-cultural problems I have been told. I don't really want to know, I like the surprise! I didn't know with my sone, but I had a feeling it was a boy. I have to spend the hottest months at my biggest-I am not looking forward to that and may stop work early because of it. I am very thankful that in Canada we get a full year off, with partial benefits through the government. I know this is a luxury and don't want to take it for granted. Good luck with shopping for daycares!

Hi again...is your family that is 40 minutes away at home during the day, or do they work? My husbands family lives about 45 min from where I work, but his parents are retired and his sister is a nurse with wierd hours, so I sacrifice some driving time because they are willing to watch my son when I can't! Just a thought that might work for you...

p.s. take your b/fs monthly income and compare it to the amount of bills you pay monthly... if bills vary (like power... ours varies between 50 and 150) use the higher amount so you know if you have enough then if the bill is acctually lower... youre good... i use microsoft works spreadsheet to keep up with the bills... i put which bills are due on the different paydays and we HAVE to follow it or we get screwed up... like i said, if you want to know anything else just let me know!

meggz - Wednesday, 19 Mar
we keep eachother in line when it comes to money... we pay all bills before we spend money on anything else... we know we can be happy with what we have and if for some reason we are going to run short my husband works some overtime. i LOVE staying at home... i get to be with my daughter and i dont have to worry about a babysitter... i dont have to worry about going to work then come home to a toddler and a messy house... cuz cleaning the house and keeping kalli happy is my only job... i will say... it gets a little lonley and the days drag on... also when matt and i fight about money he throws it in my face that i dont work but then i remind him how keeping a house clean a 2 year old happy keeping the laundry under control and keeping food on the table AND managing the finances is as much a job or more than what he does... he still hasnt grasped the concept of it... but we really dont fight that much... there are more pluses than negatives and i wouldnt change it... money is tight... but we keep in mind there is light at the end of the tunnel... matt is still at the bottom of the list at work so there is nowhere to go but up... we had to learn to be happy with going to mcdonalds and renting a movie rather than going to fridays and going to a cinema... but its worth it to be at home with kalli... however, money isnt ALWAYS tight and we do let ourselves splurge every now and again... hope this helps, if you have any other questions just let me know!

Sharonimo - Tuesday, 18 Mar
Wow, only 6 weeks. If you can work right up till the end, that will help a bit. I can understand what a tough position you are in. Do you have family that can help you out with childcare?

Sharonimo - Monday, 17 Mar
HI-I saw you comment on staying at home after baby. What is your mat leave situation like? Take advantage of that for sure! After my first one, I was pretty happy to stay home for the first few months. As my year drew up, I began to look forward to working partime and am still enjoying it, while pregnant with #2. I also went to school to have some sort of carreer and was a little bored at home after a while; you have to make an effort to get out and DO things, meet people, etc. I think part time when you are ready is a great balance between being a mum and being a normal adult! If you can afford it that is!

aderyn3 - Monday, 17 Mar
I did take a class for the medical transcription, but it was also an accredited home based course. My mom does coding and transcription at a local hospital, and her boss recommended the course for me. I had initially went to college double majoring in French and art...but after I dropped out of that and worked for a year or so, I decided I just wanted to be home with my kids (well, just my daughter at the time.) The course I took was M-TEC Inc. They are a very reputable organization. I love what I do. It's interesting and keeps my mind from turning to mush. My mom's been working in hospitals for over 30 years now doing it. My aunt has been doing it at home for over 16. Once you get your foot in the door, you've pretty much got it made. Most places want experience, but M-TEC has a job placement program to help waive that with certain companies because of the quality of the training. I've been doing it for 5 1/2 years, and I can pretty much get most any job I would want. I'm actually thinking about picking up a second job because one of my hospitals is outsourcing to India in a few weeks, and I don't think I can make enough with a half day at my other hospital. But, I've been looking and found just about everything I wanted, plus sign on bonuses for people with the experience I now have, so I'm not expecting any problem picking up something extra. There are places that offer medical, dental, paid time off. I prefer to stay an independent contractor so I don't have a very set schedule so I can have the flexibility I need with my kids, especially now I've got one in school, one starting next fall, and one the fall after that...no to mention the new baby!

aderyn3 - Monday, 17 Mar
Hi there! I'm a SAHM/WAHM. I've got 3 kids with 1 on the way. We definitely can't live off of just what my husband makes. I do medical transcription at home, which I love, and we can still pay the bills. To cut costs, I buy all of the kids' clothes off season on clearance. I pay about $20-30 for my oldest's school wardrobe (she's 7.) I also do alot of crafting, which saves clothes and toy costs. I shop by sales ads and coupons, make a menu to save on grocery costs. It can be done if you're willing to cut out things. For instance, we've never gone on vacation (we're hoping to finally do it this summer), but the kids have gone to all kinds of one tank places around the state and have a blast anyway. Staying home isn't as hard as it might seem to be, even if you don't make alot of money. Good luck!

serinadee - Monday, 17 Mar
you probably dont even need to buy them. i just watched childbirth on youtube.com and it was scary, but good to know. I'm not going to go to childbirth classes so I'm just going to rely on youtube. You can find anything on there.

Hi, i didnt plan on being a sahm, my oldest was dx'd with autism so i made the choice to stay with him and work on getting him recovered. I am now preggers with my 4th and i havent been back to work since 8 years ago. I havent regretted a single day. Yes there are days i kinda wish i could be working again or doing what i went to school for, but that lasts for a short time. My husband has a good job and actually he works two so that i can stay home, it is a decsion that we BOTH had to decide on. In the beginning it was kinda hard but then you figure it out...buy in bulk, plan meals, buy used cars instead of new, go out 2 times a month as a couple rather than everyweekend. Go out once a week as a family. basically you look for things to do close to home or things like go picnic in the park instead of going to a restaurant. We also bought a camper and go camping and such for vacations and we save alot that way. Anyhow...where there is a will there is a way. SAHM isnt for everyone, but i love it. Oh and i have changed my career choice and am now going to school for court reporting so that i can do closed captioning from home, i cant imagine not being at home for my kids :). I hope this helps :) Congrats on the pregnancy!!
