Friday, 23 May well it was two weeks...the docs the second time said that the first u/s was way too early (16 weeks)and they almost always find a cpc that early. did your afp test come back abnormal? keep your head up...really its probably nothing! m0th3r2b -
Friday, 23 May Read my profile, my little guy was also diagnosed with CPC. I have no idea if it's gone, I go for blood test results on the 30th, and hopefully will be scheduled another u\s so I have peace of mind. There's lots of info about on it the internet. Check Google and yahoo. All the best, keep in touch. nickee -
Thursday, 22 May Keep me updated. You are in my prayers. strackbaby -
Thursday, 22 May The Drs freaked me out too about the cyst on the baby's brain, when I went in for the level II U/S they had completely gone away. My baby had two of them, the genetic councelor did a great job of explaining that they happen often and although they can be soft markers for things like trisomy and downs, the baby usually has many other defects usually with the heart. Try not to worry (hard for me to say, I cried all the time) Everything should be just fine. elibabi -
Thursday, 22 May Hi again! Well I juss got back from my follow up ultrasound and the cysts were gone! thank God! Again the tech told me they're very common and as long as they see no abnormalities with the baby and your test are normal everything should be ok! BEST OF LUCK, I'm sure everything well be perfect! plz keep me posted. HEATMACD -
Wednesday, 21 May choroid plexus cysts are becoming increasingly more common, many believe this is because ultrasound technology is more advanced and are picking them up more. Ususally they are absorbed and not present by the time of birth. My nephew showed CPC's on his early ultrasounds and was born completely healthy, he is now 2 years old with NO signs of any negative effects of the cysts! GOOD LUCK selanet -
Wednesday, 21 May Well my baby doesn't have that problem but he has what the doctors call Left Renal Agenisis..... he is missing his whole left kidney and all the vessels and things that go to the left and his right kidney is enlarged.... They checked him also for Chromasomal abnormalities and it was all negative my doctors told me that something doesn't always have to be chromasomal related sometimes it just happens during the development of the baby. Wednesday, 21 May I had the same results for chromasome abnormalities it said 1/42 for trisomy 18 the worst possible thing this was 2 weeks ago I then got the level 2 u/s and that was all normal but my doc still thought I should get an amnio..so I did last wed well needless to say all tests on amnio came back perfectcy normal :)And was completly painless !A few people I know also had the same low number screenings and they alll came up as false positives too .all normal:)Don't worry because more than likely all is good!!Trust me I sat in shock and cried for a week untill I got the results back don't stress this happens to alot of people who opt for the extra tests! tlcbaby3 -
Wednesday, 21 May Both my brother and sister's little girls had CPC that eventually disappeared by 30 weeks. It's a very common finding. My sister in law is an US tech and said she sees it all the time. Both my nieces are perfect! Is it more prevalent in females? I only know of little girls that have had them. bbethanylynne -
Wednesday, 21 May A few days after my 18 week u/s, I got a call from the Dr. about a CPC found on baby's brain. I was terrified! I googled and cried... Anyhoo, I went for a level 2 a few days later and the specialist said it was NOTHING to worry about. I had a follow-up w/my OB and asked if they would be checking on the cyst to make sure it goes away and he said, "No, it's not significant...no need to follow-up..." I'm 22 weeks now and baby is perfectly healthy. nickee -
Wednesday, 21 May Hi there, at our 18 week ultrasound the doctor found a cpc on the baby. I was worried sick and reading things online didnt help. The doctor scared us too, and offered to do an amnio. We decided not to have the amnio and to just pray and have faith that everything was going to be ok. Well at our 22nd week ultrasound the cyst was completely gone and the baby is perfect. This is so common as you will see that many women are diagnosed with CPC 's and everything trns out perfect. I am sure your baby is healthy and perfect. If you have any questions just ask me, I am here for ya. dmarie71571 -
Wednesday, 21 May they found a choroid plexus cyst in my baby at week 19 and told me they are VERY COMMON, nothing to worry about at all. Usually they reabsorb themselves before the baby is even born and if they don't usually cause no harm to the baby what so ever! We had another level II ultrasound done at 26 weeks and my baby's cyst was completely gone.
They did tell me that is was a marker for trisomy 18 but they can usually tell by the characteristics of other things such as the hands, feet...etc if the baby has it or not. My baby looked perfectly fine and my blood work came back as most likely in no way does my baby have that! Believe me, it is very common...try not to worry. take care~ Dawn mixtrees -
Wednesday, 21 May My baby has the cysts, too. I am nervous, but opted against the amnio because the dangers of the amnio were greater than the chances of a chromosome problem. The more you research the cysts, the better you should feel about it. Check out this web site, it will connect you with a lot of people who had babies with cysts that turned out to be perfectly healthy. http://choroidplexuscyst.org/ I am having a c-section tomorrow, so I will finally know. As much as I think the babay should be ok, I'm still worried! sugarcubesandcottoncandy -
Wednesday, 21 May hi there. i dont know much about the condition you have mentioned, but i do know that the baby is god's. he crafted and created the baby just like he wantsed it. so... just relax. he will handle the baby for you.
loads of love and grace coming your way. mcpheefner -
Wednesday, 21 May Hi! When we went for our fetal scan at 18 weeks, our baby also had a choroid plexus cyst. That was the only marker that she had and the doctor was not at all concerned. I had a scan done at 25 weeks and the cyst was virtually gone. There was a tiny speck left. As for the cyst, I know that while it can be a marker for fetal abnormalities, the cyst itself is not dangerous. It goes away on its own and does not cause any harm to the baby. I believe it is fairly common. As for the fetal renal pelvis dilatation, I don't really know anything about that. I read some online about it, and it again does not sound like something you should be too concerned about and it looks like other people left you some good info! I know it totally freaks you out when you think anything could be wrong, but it really sounds like everything will be fine!! Good luck!! Caracaya -
Wednesday, 21 May My baby had CPC at the 20 week ultrasound. Fortunately everything else looked good, so they told us not to worry. By week 24 the cysts were gone. Apparently they appear in about 2% of healthy pregnancies and generally disappear before birth. As some of the ladies here said, it is very rare that this indicated Trisomy 18. There have been instances where a baby with no obvious deformations turned out to have this chromosomal abnormality, but it is very rare. I know it is difficult not to worry, but try to relax at this point. What is most likely is that these cysts will have disappeared by week 24 or 28, as they did in our daughter. Good luck. tto -
Wednesday, 21 May My son had the cysts and the dr said they always go away and by wk 28 they did. He has never seen them not go away. More people are seeing them because our instruments are more sophisticated and sensitive. He believes its normal. If your Quad marker blood test came back ok, the cysts mean nothing. Don't know about the other thing. Good luck! tiffers -
Wednesday, 21 May I hope this helps! I found some really good websites, and I thought you would also like to read. Seems as though this is something that is minor and can be treated is need be.
Good luck with everything. tiffers -
Wednesday, 21 May The ureter is a narrow tube which drains urine from the kidneys to the bladder (refer diagram to the right). Where the ureter meets the kidney is called the renal pelvis. This normally measures less than 4mm at the 18-20 week scan.
In 1-2% of pregnancies the renal pelvis of the baby is dilated to around 4-10mm. In most cases this is a normal variation which resolves in later pregnancy or shortly after delivery.
In some babies however, the dilatation may be due to reflux of urine or rarely obstruction of the ureter. Both of these conditions are treatable.
Where there is reflux, the urine flushes back up the ureters towards the kidneys each time the baby passes urine. In the majority of cases this resolves with time as the baby gets older and the valve mechanism between the bladder and ureters mature. With some babies however a short course of antibiotics is needed and only rarely is surgery performed to correct this problem.
With obstruction, the ureter may be partially blocked anywhere along its length from the kidney to the bladder. In the vast majority of babies the obstruction is mild and surgery is not required.
Therefore, it is important to follow up all babies with renal pelvis dilatation, in order to identify those who will require treatment for related problems in the future. In the majority of babies with renal pelvis dilatation however such treatment will not be required, and no long term kidney damage results.

Wednesday, 21 May Choroid plexus cysts (CPCs) are cysts that occur within choroid plexus of the brain. The brain contains pockets or spaces called ventricles with a spongy layer of cells and blood vessels called the choroid plexus. This is in the middle of the fetal brain. The choroid plexus has the important function of producing a fluid called cerebrospinal fluid. The fluid produced by the cells of the choroid plexus fills the ventricles and then flows around the brain and the spinal cord to provide a cushion of fluid around these structures.
CPCs can form within this structure and come from fluid trapped within this spongy layer of cells, much like a soap bubble or a blister. CPCs are often called "soft signs" or fetal ultrasound "markers" because some studies have found a weak association between CPCs and fetal chromosome abnormalities.
It is believed that many adults have one or more tiny CPCs.[1] CPCs have no impact on an individual's health or development or learning. The fetal brain may create these cysts as a normal part of development. They are temporary and usually are gone by the 32nd week of pregnancy

Wednesday, 21 May I see you've already got lots of advice about CPC and the renal pelvis dilation, so I won't go there, but my last baby had echographic foci on his heart, a minor deformity in his left lung, and I was nearly 40 years old, so they had me petrified that he would have Downs syndrome (he doesn't), but the fact is they just like follow up any little clue that there might possibly be something wrong, and they like to keep you informed. They'll probably give you odds of 1 in some hundreds, which is still overwhelming odds that your baby is fine. And as pregokristin said, CPC is a marker for trisomy 18, but that's Edwards Syndrome and the baby would have MULTIPLE physical deformities that they would easily detect on your scan, so it's not that. It's almost certainly nothing, so relax.
I'm 21 weeks, with a baby girl, and SO excited!! momof2oneonway! -
