22nd April 2008

Hi all! Had my check ups today. Went to my GP first thing this morning, and the midwife later on. Everything is absolutely normal and as it should be with me and our peanut. (Huge sigh of relief followed by big grin) The midwife, Orla, had a feel and prod of my bump and announced that what I thought was kicking was actually punching! She also asked if my husband was tall. (He is over 6 foot) She thinks the baby is particularly long. Any way I am feeling good, the sun was out today, and hubby and I are off to Vienna for the long weekend so all is right with the world

4 April 2008

Was woken early this morning with the news that our neighbours new foal has finally arrived, 10 days later than schedule. I do hope that our peanut will be a little more prompt than that. It has been glorious weather the last 2 days and so I have been busy outdoors. A little too busy if truth be told. Day-before yesterday a bought a pair of long handled pruners (no bending down) and betook myself up our lane to where the gorse was badly overgrowing the road. I hacked with the pruners and a pair of leather gloves and after an hour the hedge was cut. Luckily Antoinette, my neighbour saw me and helped with the clear up, which was much appreciated. I didn't think I had overdone it until I tried to stand up after my dinner. The nerves at the base of my spine said "No" very loudly. A long soak in the bath solved that though.

Yesterday was even nicer. I was in a tee-shirt and shorts pottering in the garden. I cut some pea supports from the hedgerow, potted up a patio container with some summer bulbs (some deep maroon colour lilies and some white and maroon sword lilies) and an accacia that badly needed putting in a larger pot, I did some very random weeding and built a new bird feeding station. Possibly again, a little too much but the sun was out and if I didn't do these things now, they probably won't get done. In the evening I sat in the conservatory and peaceably made paper pots for seedlings and planting some very nice seeds that my Mother-in-law and I ordered in a state of total temptation.

Over the last month, I have made some head-way in the house. The 2 guest rooms are tidied and cleaned and no longer full of junk. The library is half way to being sorted. The excercise machines are now tucked to one side and most of the books have made it to their shelves. Now there is just the box room... boxes will get sorted when the rain sets in at the weekend. That is a job I can do sitting on the floor in a relaxed fashion.

As for the pregnancy over the last month, not a lot of news really. All the check-up blood tests were fine. I have discovered for the first time in my life what heartburn is... deeply unpleasant. I have also discovered what Rennies (tm) are for. My spine is a little temperamental and I am inclined to get trapped nerves at the base if I do too much. And my energy levels fluctuate wildly. One day I can be up at 7 am and go to bed at 10, other days I need a sleep of 3 hours in the afternoon and still go to bed at 8.30.

27 Feb 2008

We went in for the 20 week ultrasound scan today. It was in a different dept. of the hospital and the scanner looked like something out of Star Trek. It was a bit fabulous. Hubby and I could see, well, everything... right down to our baby's little toes. I was fascinated to see the individual heart chambers and the blood moving through it and the cord. However gorgeous it all was, the important news is that peanut is perfect. All limbs where they should be and all the measurements are spot on for my 20 week estimate. Yay!

After the scan we went down to chat with our midwife. She had done some reading about MCS so had a better idea of what we are dealing with. I prepared some info for her including a list of products that I am sensitive to. That gave her pause for thought... Now I have to have an appointment with a consultant to see if she wants to head up my treatment...... Arggg. I wanted to simplify things, not complicate them. The more hospital staff involved, the harder it is to control my environment. And I would like as natural a birth as possible. That is easier under midwife lead treatment rather than a consultant. Any way, if that is the way it goes, I will just have to put my foot down a little more firmly when it comes to doing things my way. We will see next month when I meet the doctor.

21 Feb 2008

Well isn't time marching on? Week 19... Nearly half way! Feeling really good this week. Morning sickness seems to be well and truly gone thank goodness. The only down side to all this well being is that I am trying to do too much, and feeling totally beat in the evening time. I got the sewing machine out today and made some bits for the nursery; a laundry bag ( and 2 more for my neighbour J-), a nappy stacker, and half of a patchwork quilt. This is the first thing I have done for the nursery, which admittedly is still the box room. I was discussing it on the forum earlier; I think it may be that I was worried about jinxing things if I organised the nursery. But really, I have to be more positive than that...as if buying a baby bath is going to affect the health of my little bundle. Any way it will be fun.

So I made a list of the basics..... dear me, it was epic! My friends, K- and J- are fantastic though. They have both said that they will give/lend what they have from their kids. That should make life much easier (and less expensive). I think I will put a wanted ad in the local paper and see what kind of response I get towards getting the rest.

I will try to load a photo of the quilt and bits when I have them finished.
I am off to a very cosy bed now.
Good night all.

Floradix liquid supplement (iron) is the best thing in the world-absorbs quickly , no constipation...get it at health food stores-my OBs (now and past) have approved and even recommended. It is pricey but my hubby says it is totally worth it. I could hardly get out of bed even taking the pills I was prescribed. One day later.....I had more energy. I am taking 3tsp daily now.

HI Kathy,
For some reason the website wouldn't let me log in. So I had to set up a new account and it erased all my comments in all the forums (only 2). Anyway, I loved hypnobirthing. Relaxing is the key, but doing the 20/20 breathing that they describe in the book was the most helpful. You mentally go through each of your body parts from head to toe, and relax them. Each part has a number and as you count, you relax that part. Ex: head-1, neck-2, chest-3, arms-4, back-5, belly-6, butt-7, thighs-8, calves-9, feet-10. After you're totally relaxed, then you breathe into your belly to a count of 20, not moving anything but your belly. Then you breathe out to a count of 20. You have to keep your face and lips very relaxed also, let your mouth drop open. By the time you have completed one breath, you will have made it almost all the way through one surge(contraction). You concentrate so hard on staying totally relaxed while doing this breathing that it takes your mind off any discomfort. I got to 8 centimeters very easily like this. If you can get a copy of the audio relaxation, it would be great to listen to every day to prepare. You have the right mindset for a hypnobirth. Looking forward to it as an adventure will make a big difference. The last 20 minutes or so are pretty intense. The relaxation techniques my not work as well, but it is only like that for a short period of time and then your baby will be born. Another great book to read is Spiritual Midwifery by Ina Mae Gaskin. It's very hippie-dippie, but very helpful.

Sweet, that is very helpful! I am giving my presentation today about my study of the website. I think I will be posting a link the the wiki page I had to make for the project soon, so look out if you're interested... and yes, I am jealous that you get to plan for your garden. I have been thinking in a very vague way about planting tomatoes on my porch asap!

It is quite amazing that the sun is shining- the piles and piles of snow were starting to get to me! Where did you find an abbreviation list? That would be so helpful!

pinkchic727 - Wednesday, 19 Mar
Hey there, I have two more questions that I thought of after your last message, if you wouldn't mind...Hopefully you've been well??

Have you found many women to use abbreviations like DH for 'dear husband'?

Have you noticed things that seem to be taboo that women react very strongly to on the message boards, etc?

Thanks =)- Val

All went well... just came back from doc and he checked out everything, every organ and made sure that all is well... it is and we are very happy and relieved. Still decided not to find out the sex.. but i have my suspicions. Hope all is well with you.

It's good to hear that perspective...It is tough-this has been my toughest yet (and unplanned, so to speak) BUT I can't go through this enough times and be blaise about the miracle going on! Very cool. We're due near each other. I have 2 other children with birthdays that week. ha!

beebop - Thursday, 21 Feb
All is going well with us... I have an u/s on Monday, but all has been ok to date.. Feelign movement pretty much all the time, but no kicking per se.. just gurgling swishing movement.. how are you feeling?

beebop - Wednesday, 20 Feb
I'm totally with you...i am so concerned about jinxing.. that i haven't even told people at work except my boss and my admin. We had a m/c in August and I did tell everyone at 12 weeks that I was pregnant... then we miscarried, so since then, really concerned.. although we are now 19+ weeks and i feel our little sea monkey all the time, so i am certainly more at ease. But i still don't intend on buying anything until the last minute.. good luck !

pinkchic727 - Sunday, 17 Feb
Thanks...I was so worried people wouldn't want to talk!!

pinkchic727 - Saturday, 16 Feb
Thanks so much for getting back to me. I have really enjoyed reading the profiles on this website-all the women seem to have so much faith and optimism!
I came up with a few questions...if you wouldn't mind answering when you have a few minutes?

Here goes:

Why did you decide to communicate on this forum rather than some other- did this one seem friendlier?

At first, were you nervous about talking to people who were essentially strangers?

How has this communication with other women who are in the same circumstance been the most useful to you in the course of your pregnancies?

Have you made friends through this website that you communicate with on a regular basis?

What do you do on this website, and how often do you log on?

Do you find this forum to be based more on moral support or knowledge?

Thanks, and hopefully you're having a good week!-
Val

Wow you have been through it, I also suffer from allergic reactions to things. I am on a med called Zyrtec daily- cant breast feed, but keeps the reactions and hives away! I am allergic to demerol which they give for labor pains- and several other meds like aspirin n such.. I dread hospitals, know what u mean, but i was told once the labor comes on w pain, u will want anything to help relieve it- an epidural or whatever pain meds they offer!! I am generally good with internal pain, but am hating the hospital and recovery of all of this as are most I am thinking.. I just keep looking ahead that this too shall be ok and pass and I will feel good again and will have my 'plus 1' little angel in the house!!! Im still cramping/in pain from the growing but it has eased up some.. ANYHOW, hope this finds you well today.. Rain and cold here 41 degrees btw, i cant wait for warmer weather n sun!!! Keep me updated! :o)

How are you doing these days?!?
I have been lucky in the sense the worst I have suffered has been two different cases of Mono, then post Mono/Chronic Fatigue type stuff, I also tested positive to an ANA test which is the one used to help diagnose Lupus.. They still are unsure, but it could get worse..
I actually went to the ER tonight thinking I had a bladder infection or something and it turned out to be the baby and my uterus growing! The pain was bad.. So bad i could hardly walk without being doubled over.. They checked the baby's heart rate- still 150-160 and did an u/s things were fine.. So i guess I rest and see..
Hope this finds you doing well and keep me posted!!

Kathy,

Thank you so much for checking into that for me. I will DEFINITELY give it a try because the bloated gassiness is killing me! You are so kind to keep me posted on it. So... here is another question. I went for my genetic testing last week (13 weeks) and the sonogram lady said her guess is that the baby is a girl. How accurate do you think that could be at 13 weeks? Its been driving me a little crazy because I don't know what to think. Thanks again for your help! PS- Are you really in IRELAND??? That is AWESOME!! Claire

Happy New Year to you as well. I still feel the sickness too, and everything else you said from greasy hair to dry skin. I cant wait till jan. 4, the first appointment seems to take forever as you want to see the baby and know everything is ok. Hope everything goes well with you too.
