Hello! My name is Karen, I've been married to my wonderful husband Joel for 1 year. We're expecting our first baby in May. I never thought I would be able to get pregnant because of medical issues I have. So this little one is our miracle baby.
Wow, I am so emotional today! It feels like everything I do is wrong. I'm mad and crying at the same time. It's so frustrating. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
Well, we had a scare today. I started spotting at work and feeling pressure. So I left to go to the hospital to make sure everything was ok. They checked both me and the baby out and decided it was just a fluke thing. They can`t see anything wrong. They just told me to take it easy and lay low untill my next appointment. I`m really glad nothing is seriously wrong. I haven`t been so scared in my life!!

IT'S A BOY!!!!!
What a week so far. Saturday night I started feeling sick. I thought it was just morning sickness. Easter sunday I woke up feeling worse. That night I was running a fever. Monday my fever got up to 102. So I called the nurse. She told me I have the flu and to drink plenty of fluids and take tylenol. So all day monday I had a fever of 101-102. Today I woke up with my temp still being 101. I was starting to get really irritated becuase i `m driving myself nuts just sitting around. Now my fever is finally gone and I `m so excited. Back to work tomorrow and something to do!! Yay!!

I called and left a message for the nurse today because my GD numbers have been high lately. I figured while I was already leaving a message I would ask them about the BH contractions i've been having. The nurse called me back and was concerned about the contractions. She told me to lie down, drink water and time them to rule out preterm labor. She also wanted me to do a fetal kick count. Since I don't feel the baby move so much anymore. So I left work early to come home and lie down. The nurse called me back after looking over my GD numbers and told me they want me to go on insulin. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow for that now. My contractions are getting longer and longer apart now that i'm lying down. And the baby is kicking and rolling away. So that's good news.

I'm having complications due to HPV, so now I have to go in on tuesday for laser surgery. This friday I have to have a NST then go to the hospital for pre-op. They told me it would take about 2-4 weeks to heal. I'm afraid the baby will decide to come before I'm all healed up, in that case i'll have to have a cesarean section. At my appointment yesterday they told me that he's measuring about 4.5lbs. So he's doing pretty good. I'm just hoping everything ends up ok.

My NST went really good. The baby is fine. I guess I have to do it twice a week due to me taking insulin for my GD. Monday I have my pre-op. Then on Tuesday I have another NST and then surgery. Thursday I go in for an ultrasound. Maybe I should just move into the hospital :) Today I had my babyshower. It was fun. Got lots of stuff for baby Alex. My poor feet took a beating though. They are so so swollen!! I first noticed it last night. Today they are even worse. It's hard for me to keep them elevated because by back starts to cramp up so much. Oh well, this part is almost over. I can't wait to hold my baby!!

The surgery went fine. I'm sore but I don't want to take the medication they gave me. The pharmacy told me if I have to take it to just take half a pill. I'm trying to stick it out with tylenol. I had to have a breathing tube put in during the procedure. Never had one before, hope to never have to have another one. My throat is still bugging me. My NST showed I was having contractions before surgery, so they felt my belly and determined that baby Alex was just kicking at the machines they had on me and it made it look like it was contractions. My mom asked the doctor while I was in recovery what the chances were that I would need a cesarean. She said right now it's only a 20% chance. As for being induced, we have to take it week by week. I think it's to see how big the baby gets with me having GD. I have an ultrasound tomorrow morning. So I guess we'll see how big he is then.
Thursday, 1 May
My ultrasound didn't go so good. My amniotic fluid level is too low. So I ened up being sent up to labor and delivery. I felt like I was leaking yesterday but just thought it was because of the surgery. They hooked me up to the monitors, which showed I was having regular contractions 5 min. apart. I'm not leaking anymore so that's good. I had another ultrasound done and my fluids were still low. So now i'm on bedrest untill monday. Baby Alex is in position and ready to go. I'm not dialated but I am starting to soften?? Not sure what that means. they are going to do another ultrasound on Monday to see if there is any change. I'm thinking this baby is going to be coming very very soon. I can't have a vaginal birth right now, so if my levels aren't up there is a very strong possibility that I will have a c-section. Alex is measuring at 6lbs 10oz. so he's good to go if they have to take him early.

I was in L&D last night. I wasn't sure if I was leaking again or if it was just from my surgery. It turns out that it was from my surgery. The sores are seeping. They gave me a bag of stuff to take care of it. Now I'm running a fever of 101 and not sure what to do. I'm hoping they're not infected. I feel stupid going to the hospital so much. I'm trying to just stick it out right now and see if the fever starts to come down. If it goes up any, i'm going to go ahead and go in.
Monday, 5 May
Good news, my fluid level went up a little bit. It's still low, but moving up. My NST still looked good. I go back in on Wednesday for another one and a post-op check up. I'm still on bed rest though. It's driving me nuts!! All the swelling in my hands, feet, and face have gone down though, that's really good. I'm starting to look human again :)
Wednesday, 7 May
My doctor appointment today went good. I'm not healing fast enough from the surgery though. I go back again on Monday for another ultrasound, NST, and check-up. Depending on how things look they're going to schedule me for either an induction or c-section. So this little guy might be here sometime next week. I really hope so. I'm ready for this to be all over. I'm still on bedrest. And the doctor said absolutely no more work. So I guess I'm on maternity leave now.
Monday, 12 May
The doctor appointment went good again today. My fluids are still a little low, but they are looking good. The doctor gave me a choice. I could either wait, and see if anything happens (my cervix is still closed) or I can go ahead and schedule a c-section because of low fluid and my having GD. So......I'm having a c-section tomorrow!! I'm so excited. I don't think I'll be able to sleep at all tonight.
Baby Alex is here!!
Born: May 13, 2008
7lbs. 6oz., 20.5 inches long
Friday, 30 May
Alex had his 2 week check up today. We went ahead and had him circumcised. The doctor said he did really good. I was a little nervous having it done but now that's it's all over with I'm glad we did it. Alex now weighs 8lbs. 6oz. The doctor was really impressed since I'm only breastfeeding and two weeks ago he weighed 7lbs. I was thinking I wasn't making enough milk because he wants to eat every hour. Now I know I'm making enough, he's just a growing boy. He's also an inch longer than he was at birth. I'm really glad he's doing so well.
