Sunday, 16 November you are going to be ok. being a new mom is so overwhelming and women just don't have the support group we once had and this is not a one or even two person job having a newborn. I am working through my ppd and feeling much better after seeing my doctor and taking meds. The most important thing you can do is take care of yourself so yo can take care of baby. Sleep, ask for help, be kind to yourself and when you have negative thoughts just go, oh, hmmm, that was weird....and make yourself think of something else or go outside or distract yourself. Easier said than done, but you can do it. Much love. kashli -

Thursday, 23 October New pictures are up! Hi, a quick update! Sorry I have not responded to some of your messages in a while. The breast feeding adventure is taking so much of my time. Shawn is always on the boob! I am trying to get him to eat well and not fall asleep. It seems he will eat for a couple minutes and then fall asleep. So, he is only getting a little milk and not filling up. Any suggestions to get him to eat well so I am not having him on the boob every half an hour? He will sleep at night 3-4 hours, which is good, but during the day it can be trying. He is at his birth weight as of yesterday, so the milk is there.
I am going through the postpartum issues of night sweats, crying out of the blue, very sensitive to comments made by other family members, sore body...esp vaginal, feelings of being overwhelmed and cravings for crapy foods! Other than that, I am very in love with becoming a mom again. It feels very rewarding. I hope all you moms are doing well. I think of you and wonder how you all are doing. Please keep in touch. Sorry for the mass message. I will be able to personalize it soon. Take care.

Sunday, 19 October Hi there, it does seem like we have similar stories. I know what you mean about the feeding on demand, all the books I have say feed when baby wants, but after over three hours the other day, I honestly thought I was going mad! What I have found now even though its only been 2 days is that I have more milk during the feeds, probably coz she's not constantly grazing. If expressing is a problem, leave it for the time being as you will just wear yourself out (and stress yourself, thats what I was doing). I find it so much easier with the formular for the night feed. When do you return to work? sharra -
Friday, 17 October Hey, Mamas! I finaly had my baby boy...On 10/15/08 at 3:12 pm
Shawn Kenneth, 7.8 lbs, 21 inches long, 13 hours labor, induced with a cervical softner and an hour on pitocin. Labor went very fast on pitocin...I went from 4cm to 9cm in less than an hour...to fast for an epi...God Give Me Strength! Was able to get spinal block that lasted less than 2 hours long, but not long enough to feel baby decend! It was alot on me, but I got through it with the help of the nurses and doctor. God Bless Them! Shawn is beautiful and very quiet compared to my daughter when she was born. He is softly spoken and very present. He is brestfeeding pretty good. He latches on and will eat and sleep at the same time. I still am having to get use to the positioning, but it will all come in time.
I hope all of you are enjoying the moment, because it goes so fast. Thanks for being in my network and I will pop in and say hi as the weeks go on. Motherly peace and rest to you! Off to change a poopy diaper!

Friday, 17 October Hi there I spoke with a health advisor yesterday about Heidi's eating habbits as I just seem to be constantly feeding her, not even time to make the bed. Anyway she is doing well & has gained a whole pound in 17 days so must be doing something right. They told me I need to get her into a routine for feeding that she should be feeding every 3 hours but to kick start this every 2 hours. So today we have to feed her every 2 hours for 20-25 minutes, then take her off & not put her back for 2 hours. Health adviosr said to take baby out for a walk to distract them, & not to worry if they still wanted more because on the next feed for 20-25 minutes then she will take a proper feed. The idea is so she stores enough for the longer periods at night so only feed her when she wakes. Health advisor said imprtant to still to set times between feeds & not to go past then she wont be playing catch up in the evening. She told me this only takes one to to instil in the babies then after a few days extend to feed every 3 hours for up to 40 minutes. This should stop the stropping & constant feeds. We are currently trying this & although Heidi is a little ratty today as she like to snack on my breast it does seems to be helping. Thought it might help with your fella as you said he gets angry too. x melliebellie -

Thursday, 16 October well good luck! i hope you have lots of support b/c that really helps. i know that some big cities also have shops that have nursing supplies and support as well. and just come to this site often b/c the women here are so helpful. melliebellie -
Wednesday, 15 October my hospital has a store called 'her place' that sells nursing supplies and is staffed by an lc. they also have an lc hotline that you can call to ask questions. does yours have anything like that? i was able to go to the store to make sure i had the right size breast shield for my pump. i thought i didn't but i did. it is really hard at first but it's so worth it. i didn't have engorgement when my milk first came in either b/c i think it came in gradually. ella had some problems gaining at first but there's no problem now. she's 4 months and doing fine. i'm pumping at work and getting 13-14 oz pumping twice a day lately. nich-vegas-mommy -
Tuesday, 14 October I have the medela pump too, $279! I fed Chathum pretty much every two hours (two hours from when he started to feed, so if he started at 2, I fed him again at 4, again at 6, etc)I would make sure to wake him up to eat for the first two weeks. I would also pump after feeding him during the day a few times. By the time he was three weeks, I could get about 3 ounces combined. It will go up from there! Once your milk comes in, if you feel engorged (your boob will feel hard like it will explode!), pump some of that out and then feed so your baby can empty the breast. Your body will think the baby needed all of that milk, so it will keep making more! nich-vegas-mommy -
Tuesday, 14 October It will just take some time to build up. I had my son on a Monday, and on that Friday was still only getting about an ounce each session from both. Now I pump while I am at work and bring home usually about 13 oz a day. Hang in there! I know how frustrating it can be!
