My story so far... I fell pregnant in Feb this year with our first child. We were so excited, I didn't find out till I was 6 weeks, but our joy was soon shattered. After 2 weeks, 2 scans and many doctors appointments I was admitted to hospital with a suspected ectopic pregnancy. On the 29th March I under went emergency surgery. The doctor found that I did indeed have an ectopic pregnancy and that my fallopian tube had ruptured and I was bleeding out into my abdomin. They ended up having to remove both the pregnancy and my right fallopian tube laeving me firing on one cylinder. The specialist told me that you have a 1 in 200 chance of having an ectopic pregnancy, once you have had one your chances increase to a 1 in 20 chance.

On the 23rd July I tested positive again, we were so excited and very scared. I had to have my HCG levels tested to make sure they were progressing properly. After 3 tests my specialist was happy with the way things were going as my HCG was doubling every 38 hours. I went for my first scan on the 7th August to make sure everything was were it should be... Success. We saw our babies heart beat...111 beats a minute. I have been sleeping so much better since then. I no longer have to go back to the specialist which is great as I don't want this to turn onto a medical thing. Had my first midwife appointment on the 15th August. She seems lovely, but how can you tell until the day. I guess only time will tell.

Monday, 5 Nov

We went for a scan today. It was amazing seeing baby in so much detail, we decided not to find out the sex and keep it a surprise for the big day. Baby was not behaving it's self and was very active and wouldn't lie in the right position. I had to do alsorts of crazy things like lie on my side then quickly turn back on my back but baby still wouldn't co-operate. They ended up sending me out for a walk for 30 mins then had another go. I think baby was asleep the second time and they finally got all the information they needed. Most of the time baby's hand was up by it's face, we figured it was either sucking it's thunb or picking its nose lol. Any way have a look at the picture, it looks like baby is waving to the world outside

11th December 2007
Went to see the midwife today, seems that my growth is 4 weeks ahead of where i should be as it was at my last visit. She thinks this is for one of two reasons: I may have gestational diabetes, but can't be tested for another 4 weeks. Or am just carrying high. Am a little worried but hope that this doesn't turn into a drama.

Wednesday, 16 Jan

Went to the midwife again yesterday. My GTT test results were all normal but I `m still carrying 4 weeks ahead of where I should be and we know my date are correct as I had to go for a scan at 6 weeks and that scan could only be out by a matter of days. So my midwife is sending me off for more scans to check the growth of baby. I go for one next tuesday and then another at 34 weeks. I think my midwife is concerned I `m carrying a baby the size of a small elephant. Of course I still could be carrying high. She also said that her prediction of sex based on the heart rate was a boy, has to come out either one sex or the other so i guess we `ll have to wait and see if she is right or not. toodles :-)

Tuesday, 22 Jan

I went for a scan today, baby now measures to the size of a 32 weeks gestation and weights about 4.4 pounds, I also have alot of fluid which is why I am carrying so high. I must be having the elephant baby that my midwife suspected.

Wednesday, 30 Jan

Had an appointment with the midwife yesterday. All is well, baby `s heart beat still around 124-136 beats a minute and she still thinks it `s a boy. We talked about the scan results, some of baby `s measurements are at the 85th percential, and some are at the 95th percential. She is going to have a look at what is what. I may have to go for a second scan earlier than expected. She said if the next lot of results are 95percential then I will be refer to a specialist. I may also be induced earlier. So I could have as little as 6 1/2 weeks left to go. I am no to stressed as this is all `what if `s `. I don `t really mind what happens as long as baby arrives healthy. Start antenatal classes tonight, should be fun.

Wednesday, 30 Jan

Just got a phone caal from my midwife, she wanted me to rebook my next scan for next tuesday now as it `s baby `s head and tummy that are big. My little baby has been eating all the pies. Will let you know what happens next tuesday. Time will tell.

Tuesday, 5 Feb

Went for a scan again today. My midwife rang with the results tonight and said that the results on babies growth were very non-descript and not terribly helpful, they said baby `s growth is between the 50th and 90th percential (what ever that means). But my amnio fluid has increased and I now have polyhydramnios. She is refering me to an obstetrition at the hospital. I `m not to worried, will panic when I get told there is cause for alarm. See my midwife again next wednesday so will let you know what she says. In the mean time have been given a list of things to look for.

Wednesday, 13 Feb

Have been to see my midwife again today. She has heard from the hospital but I haven `t yet. She said that I have an appointment on the 6th March when I `m 36 weeks. They want her to send me for yet another scan ealier that week and then take the results with me. She is going to ring them tomorrow to tell them to sort out my scan so that I don `t have to pay for it. I found some results from my last scan on the cd of images I brougth and so took her a copy so she can map them and see exactly where baby fits on the graph instead of the between 50 and 90th percential. Baby `s heart beat was a bit slow today but speed up again when I lay on my side so guess lying on your back really isn `t that good fro baby hence the reason we get told to lie on our sides. So I guess all in all i still don `t know what will happen and just have to wait and see, I guess it `s better this way that getting a call from the hospital to say `you need to come in now `. No news is good news right?

Monday, 18 Feb

My midwife was wrong about the date of my appointment at the hospital...it `s the 3rd of march, my first official day of maternity leave. I have to go for yet another scan bfore my appointment so have booked that for the 28th feb....our baby is the most photographed baby in utero. Crazy! My midwife plotted baby `s growth and she said that not much has changed.

Thursday, 28 Feb

Had another scan and midwife appointment today. The scan showed that baby `s growth is now in the 80th percential so the growth has slowed. The polyhydramnios is still present but is mild which is also good news. My midwife thinks that when I go to my ob appointment on monday they are going to wonder why they are seeing me. So all sounds very positive, I may end up with the no fuss birth I wanted...yay. Have booked a TENS machine to use at home when I go into labour. It `s my last day at work tomorrow, I am so looking forward to being able to have naps, clean and watch Dr Phil, will be lovely to have some chill out time before baby comes. We had a disco for a fund raiser at the centre today, was also a chance to see lots of the parents before I go on mat leave, was nice to see them all and have time to catch up with them, got lots of `good lucks ` and birth stories.

Monday, 3 Mar

Went to my appointment at the hospital today. Was all very uneventful which is great. They don `t seem very concerned about the size of baby, thye said that as I `m tall they would expect me to have a big baby. They also so said all the percential chart means is that if my baby was one of 5 born there would be 1 bigger than mine and 3 smaller. I showed protien in my urine so they have sent that off for testing and as for the polyhydramnios, it `s mild so the plan is to follow up with a scan at 38 weeks and i `ll see them again then....7 scans in one pregnancy, crazy! See midwife again tomorrow but told her all tonight. Hope everyone else is fine too.

Friday, 14 Mar

I had another scan today this time at the hospital. The synographer was really lovely which is nice. She had a good look at baby and re did most of the scans I have had in the past looking over the heart and kindey function etc, I guess to make sure that nothing had been missed in the past as this can be the cause of polyhydramnios. She said that she could see that baby has a head full of hair, maybe the old wives tale is right and that would explain why I have had such bad heartburn. She estimated baby `s weight at 8lb 13oz. Will be interesting to see how big baby is when it comes out. Got to see baby `s face today, didn `t get any pictures to post but I almost cried....it looked like a baby, so cute and chubby...nearly cried and I `m not usually a crier. Was very cool. Told her I didn `t know sex of baby and didn `t want to know but she kept referring to him and he.....makes me wonder if she was right or just using he instead of it????

Monday, 17 Mar

Went to my hospital appointment today. The obsteritian said that I have to birth at Christchurch womans and not LIncoln, the secondary unit I had my heart set on. She said that Baby `s head was not engaged but was heading in the right direction. I wondered if baby had moved up as at my 36 week scan they couldn `t see the face as baby was to low and then on friday we could see baby `s face. The ob also said that if myt waters break I have to call an ambulance and get my head down and my bottom up as they are concerned that the cord could go prolapsed, if i start to contract I have to make my way to hospital straight away incase my waters break. I walked out feeling scared and angry that they are over reacting or freaking me out. I rang my midwife and she thinks I only need to ring an ambulance if my waters break with a gush. She was going to ring the ob and talk it through with them and challenge it. She also thinks it would be better to get Jim to drive me as fats as possible as we live out of town and that would be quicker than waiting for an ambulance. I said in my first ever posting that I didn `t want this to turn into a medical thing.....I think it just has.....Bugger!!!

Tuesday, 25 Mar

Another midwife appointment today. Showed gluccose in my test today, was all the chocolate I ate earlier in the morning. Midwife said just about everyone had shown gluccose today...naughty us!!!Had big chats with her again and the game plan is to ring an ambulance if my waters break with a gush, but if the break with a trickle or I start to contract then I page her, she will come over and access where baby `s head is, if it `s engaged then I labour at home and birth at Lincoln the materinty hospital I have my heart set on. If baby `s head is high then we go to chch womans because of the chance of prolapse. This sits better with me. It doesn `t sound like such a drama but is still playing it safe. At the end of the day I will do what ever is needed to have baby live and well.

Tuesday, 1 Apr

Went to see my midwife again today. All well, baby `s head is 2-3/5ths engaged, she said it `s hard to tell exactly as there is so much fluid. She is away from friday morning til monday afternoon so this baby either needs to come now or needs to stay in till she is back. Booked an appointment with her for next week and she has told me she `ll do a stretch and sweep if nothing has happened. Am just getting to the point where I am over it. hoping that it all kicks off soon.

That is the most fantastic thing I've heard all day! I need something that describes my place of work better - I can think of several words but may be a bit inappropriate!
Poor Tobs, hope he feels better soon!

Nemma - Saturday, 17 May
I know, everyone just loves me! lol. Did she like the gift?
I've just been out and about (yeap it's 10pm) getting some toffee pops - back on chocolate with a vengeance now! Enjoy coffee catch up, speaking of study I NEED to do some tomorrow. So many excuses....
Talk soon x

so its been a while since you wrote me, its been crazy around here, my sister just got married here. we did all the food and the reception was at the house so yeah ive been a little busy. Im glad all is well with you and toby, are you still breastfeeding? my milk has yet to come in enough to exclusively breastfeed, im still supplementing with formula. she is already 11.2 lbs, my little one can eat!! lol.

to answer your question yes it was the hardest pregnancy, i went to the doctor for every little thing and most of the time i was fine, i was so worried. i am just very happy to finally have her in my arms, being a mom is what i was meant to be and its been a long time coming.

I know, I can't believe I have less than a week to go, I am so ready to have her, but I think I maybe here for another two weeks, after all the contractions the bloody show and everything, everything has been quiet on the western front, lol!
No sign of her.
My back is not too bad, I am seeing the Chiropractor every week and it really has helped with the pain. Eden is in the perfect position to be born, and I reckon it has something to do with going to the Chiropractor.
Thanks for the compliment on my photo, I know I am lucky not to have stretch marks, my mum got them bad on her tummy, so I thought I would, but haven't, thank goodness.
No worries for the Mothers day wishes, I hope you had a great Mothers day.
Speaking about Slow cookers, I have been using my crockpot all the time, such a time saver, I use the soup mixes, like minestrone, and country chicken, stick in the meat and a bit of garlic and some pumpkin and frozen veges and leave to go all day, yummy!!, the meat just falls of the bones!
xxx

manda-may - Tuesday, 13 May
I get an achy back at the moment. Midwife thinks it could be my posture, or that I need to get a support band for my tummy, or do some preggy yoga.... etc. I get the pain high on my right side somewhere between my shoulder blade and spine. I also get an achy lower back.
It's so nice to hear about Toby and Jim. I can just so picture them having "bath time" - so nice for them both to have that special time. you must be such a relaxed gentle mum Helen - can't wait to see you too!
I booked into antenatal classes last night at the Lower Hutt parents centre - $210.00!!! I think you can get free ones through the hospital, but I am not really sure which ones are best, but have heard that the parent centre is good and Sonya went through them. You get membership, magazine, newsletter, etc. We are already going to go to the multiple birth antenatal classes as well when they book us in. We start on June 3rd - 15 July for 7 sessions for the Parent Centre one. They were going to start us in much later but I suggested a bit earlier and she agreed.
Oh well, better go to work.
xxx and all my love!!! Manda.

Tell me about it! I can't believe the price of fuel and food, we used to go for a drive on Shayne's day off, just to get me away from the house and give the kids a trip away, now, we have to think twice about doing that.

my7thbabyduemay20th2008 - Thursday, 8 May
Oh I can't wait! I just love it when your baby smiles, it just warms your heart.
Hey, I need to go and get my hair done, that would make me feel so good to get it done, but atm, I am too busy getting the last things I need for Eden, and as you know, baby's things are not cheap.
Isn't that frustrating, you haven't been away from work that long, and they fall apart without you, how shit is that?!!

NZmum - Tuesday, 6 May
yes will be busy emotionally when i get home, but cant wait to relax from the stress of here. haha
sorted a midwife a couple of months ago, mum has met her and i meet her on june 3rd, loads of questions to ask her, poor woman doesnt know what she's taking on with me.
the court case is the department of labour suing the regional racing board not just for my dads death but the two other people injured in the accident. its a very long and drawn out process, but lets hope we get a good result.

my7thbabyduemay20th2008 - Tuesday, 6 May
That would be right! Typical doctors!
Having irregular contractions atm, hopefully they develop into something more, fingers crossed, hehe.
Toby smiled?? how gorgeous, you have to snap a photo of him and post it up on your page.
I know how in love you can be with your baby, enjoy hunny!
xxxx

my7thbabyduemay20th2008 - Tuesday, 6 May
Dr Phil! yes, I like watching him, hehe.
Wow, yes, you will definitely get more presents when he is baptised, you lucky thing!
I don't know what is up with Christchurch womens hospital, I agree with your midwife, a second opinion is a good idea, I wouldn't rest until you are fixed up down there, it simply comes down to money, and they hope that people come right, but obviously your injury to your perineum is more than just healing can fix.
300gms! well that is close to a pound, what a little piglet, cute!! hehe
I know it will get easier hun, it is just at first it is hard when you are trying to get out with little ones.

my7thbabyduemay20th2008 - Monday, 5 May
Hi hun,
No, we didn't get any snow, just around us on the hills, but I heard it snowed in Christchurch and didn't settle, it's not fair, I love snow, I just want it to snow, lol!
Man, you sound like you were inundated with stuff for Toby, you know the more children I have had, people don't seem to bother, but hopefully because I am having a girl this time, I will get more stuff for her, as I have really had to start from scratch, most of my baby things I got rid of, and it has been a bit of a financial battle to get everything, which I know you can appreciate, since you too have had to get everything from scratch, being that Toby was your first.
I know it is hard getting out and about, I am actually dreading having to go into town once Eden is here, I am two pre-schoolers to hold onto and a capsule to carry, with my sore back, it was hard enough with Bailey, but I mananged, hehe.
Lost more of my show this morning, bloody this time, yay! hopefully, fingers crossed, she is not too far away.
xoxoxoxoxxo

my7thbabyduemay20th2008 - Monday, 5 May
Oh I know! time absolutely flying by, feeling like I could have her at any minute, lost my bloody show last night, and this morning I was so wet down there, I thought my waters had broken, but no, hehe.
I got some cute little clothes for Eden, a little pink woollen jumper with a zip, a cute little denim dress, some cute little pants, and some other baby clothes, just so cute, I got so clucky looking at them, Kerryanne did buying them, hehe.
Then this morning I got a parcel from my friend in Ireland, well, it was incredible to say the least! She bought Eden a gold bracelet with storks carrying a baby engraved right round it, a mother and daughter necklace, a little angel pin to stick on her clothes, and show she is protected by angels, an angel medallion for the newborn baby girl, that hangs on her crib, a musical pink teddy, a pink blanket with her name Eden Amber-Rose embroidered onto it, two little slippers with rattles sewn inside them.
An angel ornament holding a baby for me, for Shayne she gave him two books, one of Ireland landscapes and the other of fairy and folk lores of Ireland, it was absolutely amazing, opening it was just like christmas!
Yes, I could see Toby was very fair, he has sooo much hair, doesn't he, reminds me of my little brother when he was born, except J.J's was black as the ace of spades, plus he had hair down his back too, he was like a wee ape, lol!
Oh sweetie, yes, he will be going through his growth spurt about now, just be kind to yourself, and don't feel guilty about putting your feet up and resting when he does, these early weeks, are kind of a blur, as all you seem to be doing is feeding and changing nappies, and burping!
I really feel for you with the reflux thing, I know how hard it was for me, and how restless bubs was, you are doing all the right things hun, and it will get better soon.
One tip, if you have copious amounts of milk, pump off the foremilk, the watery stuff at the start of the feed, and try to feed him more the cream, or hind milk, it is a little thicker and he may settle more on that, I found that it worked for me, as Bailey was a little guts, and I used to have heaps of milk with him, he would fill himself up on the foremilk and then not be so interested in the cream at the end, and his reflux got pretty bad, but by pumping off a lot of the foremilk, he drank more of the hindmilk, which is what has more substance and calories than the foremilk, try it, you can only try, eh?
xxxxx

Angelwings - Sunday, 4 May
thanks, congrats to you too. I am breastfeeding her, but for the past week i was unable due to my sisters wedding and it being hecktic around here and now have to work up my supply again since i am now able to stay home and nurse on demand, i hope my supply will come back. how are things going with you? i posted new pics up, go take a look :)

my7thbabyduemay20th2008 - Friday, 2 May
Yeah me too, I have had quickeze to handle it, but I have had more, I think it is because I carried her higher than the boys, but she could have a lot of hair;)

my7thbabyduemay20th2008 - Friday, 2 May
He looks like his hair is very fair, his hair will start to fall out soon, you will probably notice it on his bedding, then it gets replaced with his true colour hair. I think he will be a little blondy

my7thbabyduemay20th2008 - Friday, 2 May
He is so tiny, it is so cool to see him with his Dad, what a neat photo.

my7thbabyduemay20th2008 - Friday, 2 May
Man he has heaps of hair, but boy is he cute!!!

my7thbabyduemay20th2008 - Friday, 2 May
yeah it is mummy's hormones, they are called 'Milia' it is totally normal, some of my kids got it bad the others didn't it, it really depends, sometimes what we eat can affect it, but the jury is out on that one, so I am not sure.I will go and have a look now.

found this info for you...

During the last months of pregnancy, a woman’s blood stream is overloaded with hormones. Many of these hormones are passed to her baby through the placenta and remain in the infant’s blood for months after birth. These hormones cause three noticeable changes in the newborn: (1) Breast enlargement due to estrogen stimulation of the breast cells (2) Minimal vaginal bleeding in the first or second day of life due to estrogen stimulation of the infant girl’s uterus. (3) Newborn “acne” due to hormonal stimulation of the oil glands of the face.
More than 40% of newborns develop this “acne” on their faces, mainly appearing as red bumps or small whiteheads. The rash begins to appear around three weeks of age and can last up to six months. It is present mainly on the cheeks but can be found in the forehead and chin as well. The rash is not caused by skin pores being blocked with dirt or improper cleaning of the baby’s face. Newborn “acne” is simply the last evidence of mom’s intra-utero connection with her infant.

Newborn acne becomes worse when the baby is fussy or when the skin becomes wet from saliva or spit-up milk. The best way to care for this unsightly but “normal” skin rash is to wash the baby’s face with a mild soap twice a day and then pat (do not rub) dry. Oils and lotion do not help and may even make the condition worse. Consult your pediatrician if the rash does not disappear by six months of age or for anything else that bothers you about it. Remember. You did nothing wrong to cause the rash.

my7thbabyduemay20th2008 - Friday, 2 May
I know what you mean, when they have reflux it can be really heart wrenching to see them in obvious pain, and looks like you know all about it, which is good, I feel for women who don't know how to handle it and don't know where to get help.
Oh yeah, they get spotty after a week or so, you probably know already, I almost forgot about that, hehe.
I can't wait to see him, he is a good looking baby you know, he looked really cute at birth, unlike some baby's that look all squashed up, hehe.

my7thbabyduemay20th2008 - Friday, 2 May
He is sleeping well isn't he? That is great Helen, I am so happy that you have such an awesome baby.
I had a problem with my last two with reflux and I gave them Gaviscon as well, they were a little spilly, but screamed like Toby with a sore tummy after a feed, and kept wanting more, I found lifting the edge of the cot with heavy books or something under the top end of the mattress helped. Sleeping the baby on the side was the lest painful way to sleep him, as on the tummy or back was just not happening for both of them, they slept well swaddled tightly and lying on their side heaps better.
Infacol wind drops, I swear by these, so much better than gripe water, try these also, I will be picking up some from the chemist next week.
Yes, my sister lives in Christchurch, in Waltham, it will be so good to see her, she is bringing some stuff down for Eden so I am just as excited to see what she has for her.
Really cold today, we had a lot of snow around us on the hills, I imagine chch was the same, had the fire going all day, and just put some coal on it tonight, lovely and toasty, hehe.
So cool to hear from you hun, give that baby a big cuddle from me.
love u
Nic

You are a sweet friend, I am very glad to have you hun;)
I think the children must know something is happening soon, as they are acting a little differently, Bailey is clingier, which is so cute, I love getting more cuddles, it makes me feel better, Jaedon is a cuddly boy, but you have to pick your moment, I have to do it when he isn't looking, hehe.
Go for my last scan on Wednesday, should be exciting, I have never had a scan so late in pregnancy, I will be just over 38 weeks then.
My sis is coming from chch this weekend with her bf, so it should be good to catch up with her.
How is Toby doing? Are you getting enough sleep, and how's the perineum?
Catch up with you soon hun
xxxx

my7thbabyduemay20th2008 - Thursday, 1 May
Ohh, I am ready, I am losing my temper at the kids, and my poor husband, I am in so much pain with my back and keep losing parts of my show, and every couple of days I have runs of painful contractions, it isn't fair.

my7thbabyduemay20th2008 - Wednesday, 30 April
19 now! hehe, wrote about what happened last night in my latest blog, boy am I shitted off, hehe.
Yes, the previa is sorted itself out, Eden is head down and everything is ready to go.
Oh you poor thing having someone stay so soon after Toby's birth! that is not good, but at least they did the garden's, but still!
I just thought I would send you a message to show that you are missed sooo much, and I will look forward to chatting with you, when you get the chance.
