about your bf'ing post concerning mucous in the poo... i would contact LLL (La Leche League) and ask them questions, they are a wellspring of bf'ing knowledge and can allay fears, they are incredibly helpful!!! just an idea :P

I don't know how much help I can be, but when I was a tiny baby (can't remember how old they say I was, but it wasn't very old) , my father tripped and fell down probably 10-15 steps with me in his arms. And I'm perfectly fine! I would just keep an eye on him and trust your motherly instinct. If you feel something's wrong, go to the doc/ER.

Hi! I saw ur message about u being concerned with the fall. I also had a similar situation. My Jaiden was probably 2 weeks old. The phone rang as I was holding him and I went to go get it. I didnt see the leg of his swing and went flying across our wood floors with him in my arms. All I could think when I was falling is hold onto the baby. I ended hitting his head on the arm of the couch and rushed into the ER. He is now 5 months old and everything seems to be ok. I am sure ur little one is okay. When I was at the ER they told me to watch for signs of injury. These signs were pupils being different sizes, throwing up after eating. Did the baby cry when u fell?

The same thing happened to Isabella when she was a couple of months old. I saw a BF specialist who suggested that i pump 20cc of milk before feeding her so that she gets more hind milk. The foremilk is higher in suger & can make the poops greenish. It helped for us! Let me know how it turns out.

I have no idea where this weather came from so soon. Considering last week it was snowing off and on but it is really nice but really uncomfortably warm

I make the big switch to formula at the beginning of June. I have been trying to find info on how to make the switch smoothly, but all I can find online are articles that tell me I'm being an awful mother for giving my baby formula. It's so frustrating. I mean, I have no choice. But that's not even the point: there is no consideration given to mothers who choose formula. It's like we're all considered evil. Anyway, whatever.
I have heard that the best way is to ease of the breast - start breastfeeding once or twice a day only, then use bottles the rest of the time. That way the transition is slower. I've also heard that if someone else feeds the bottle to baby instead of you that it prevents some confusion.
I have been pumping and have about 120 oz in the fridge. I want to know if I should be starting with bottles of breastmilk, then easing into formula, or should I feed all the breastmilk until it's gone, then use formula. I don't know. I'm going to talk to my doctor about it, but I don't see her until the 27th.

Let me know if you get any good advice. It was good to hear from you!

Hi, You are right, getting up and dressed has been the best thing for me. I read that at this age our babies need 14-16 hours of sleep still. Jacob slept through the night the last 2 nights from 10pm-6am and he's taking longer naps now, so this 90minute thing from the book I'm reading really seemed to make a difference. I doubt he'll sleep through the night every night, but there is such an improvement in his nap taking, it's been great. He still cries when there is a reason, but the mysterious fussiness has disappeared. For now at least. Last night I got worried because he was making sounds and I went to look and his head was arched all the way back with his face up against the bumper of the bassinet. He is still light enough for the bassinet, but I think he's too long now. I picked him up so fast when I saw him like that, I thought he would wake up, but he didn't. I fixed his head and put him back. So now I'm off to get a crib and some kind of gas free mattress. We got to go out last night to an Armed Forces dinner and it was fun to get dressed up and to get away. I had to go get a dress since nothing fit, but I found one that looked nice and I didn't feel gross and fat in it. I can wear it to the SWA 10 year party in Dallas next month too, so I'm happy about that. Yup, the diet you are on will definitely drop the pounds. I have a lot of allergies and had to go wheat, gluten, dairy, AND sugar free for about 2 months to try and prevent a sinus surgery. It worked and I lost a lot of weight that I didn't even need to lose at the time. But it was so hard to go without those foods! It's good you are doing it so you can continue to breastfeed though. I need to go feed Jacob and then I'm off to Babies R Us.

I hope you aren't someone who thinks that Canada is constantly ice and snow! It was 30 degrees celsius here yesterday which would make it 86 degrees Fahrenheit!!

Devyn's poop are still on the green side too. It varies from orangeish to very dark green. I am not pumping anymore though because my milk supply actually went down and regulated itself more for Devyn which is great for me no more engorgement. And no over supply any more. I want to make sure she is getting enough fatty milk though so she usually gets one bottle of formula before bed. It fills her tummy and relaxes her. I also believe it may help her sleep longer. I don't know what else to do because I love bf but I want to make sure she is healthy. When I told my doctor she had green poops she said that's fine. So she obviously wasn't too concerned but I am.

Hi, Good to hear from you. I agree that it seems silly to stop breastfeeding. You know that is not what would be causing blood, how could formula be better? I'm still mad at the nurse for wanting Jacob to have formula in his second week when we were still getting the hang of things. I wonder what the GI doctor will say. I hope it is something that will go away on its own or be easily fixed. Jacob's poop was green 2 more times after I last wrote to you. It does seem to make a difference if I switch sides as opposed to letting him stay on one to get more hindmilk. I also started exercising more and that did something to him too, so I time it better and don't try to nurse right after exercising. Last week was stressful, but so far this week is better. I'm keeping track of how much sleep he's getting. I don't think he was sleeping enough last week. I'm at least starting to get dressed each day (though not today) and we went to Home Depot with him, so we didn't feel so trapped in our home. It will be nice when we can go out to dinner and bring him along. We'd try it this week, but the stomach flu is going around. Don't need that.

Now Jacob is pooping green as well. He did yesterday twice and the day before once, but barely. Nothing green today and I tried having him eat only on one side to get the hindmilk. He's been drooling a lot lately too.

It took about two weeks to return completely to normal. She is now 11 weeks old and still has the occasional green one and sometimes mucousy as well. I think it bothers me much more than it does her. I wouldnt worry unless there is blood present.

busybeemom - Sunday, 4 May
It's normal for your baby's poo to change color. Green and yellow are both fine. If there is blood then you should be worried. Breastfed baby's poo is always changing with what mom eats. I really wouldn't worry unless you see the baby acting sick, not eatting, fever, or blood. Your baby also may not poop for days and that is normal also. Is the baby gaining weight?

eCCAbOO - Friday, 2 May
i don't know about the mucus thing...poop sort of looks like watered down honey? i asked that question a while ago and a lot of moms said their babies had that too, the honey textured poop, so i'm assuming that's normal. right now, mack's poop is back to when he was a couple weeks old...yellow and seedy, no honey :) it's fascinating that we are so poop oriented now we have babies!

jessicadarling - Thursday, 1 May
Unfortunately for me whenever I feed her off the breast her poops turn green so I have to pump if I want to keep it a regular color. OR I pump off some of the foremilk and then feed her on the breast. When pumping you can tell the foremilk from hindmilk because the foremilk is watery and almost grey in color kind of when water and milk is mixed together. ANYWAYS Last night I pumped 3 ounces, 3 OUNCES!! of foremilk from my left breast before the hindmilk started kicking in! Thats ridiculous, no wonder my baby's poop turns green so quickly!

loriking18 - Thursday, 1 May
I fund this for you!!!

Not pooing for a few days is fine in breastfed babies - they are using it all up and there can be very little waste to come out. Green poo can be a sign of a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance: when your baby begins to feed they initially get foremilk which is thin and watery and low calorie - a thirst quencher, then after nursing for a while on the same breast they get the hindmilk which is the calorific stuff and is more creamy. If you swap your baby over on to the other boob too quickly when he or she is feeding, they can get nothing but foremilk and this can turn their poo green (this is a result of their getting too much lactose and their intestines not being able to digest it effectively). This is still not a problem in the short term - just make sure you get your baby to empty one breast first before swapping sides. Watery poo is not so good - could be diarroea. Diarroea is only a problem if your baby gets dehydrated. To tell if he or she is dehydrated keep a close eye on wet nappies every day - should be two to three big wet ones :)
