GOOD LUCK WITH EVERYTHNG!

In regards to your question, I had my last two with no meds (and not cuz I thought I was super woman but because they came too quick) and I did have to get stiches after. I didnt feel the cut made but did feel the pricks from the needle when they gave me medicine to numb me before they put them in. To be honest after what you've just been through its a piece of cake. I've never experienced an epidural so I have no idea how to compare the two. Im not against it this time either but I guess we'll have to see how fast she wants to come. - Valerie

I am going to try and do it natural this time again. I didn't have a choice last time, and as pathetic as it sounds, I hope I don't make it in time for the epidural this time either, as it will force me to go natural. With my first, the epidural stopped my labor and I had to be given Pitocin to start it back up again. It took forever. Also, I could not tell which muscles to use to push with. It is a fine line when it comes to the right muscles. I ended up with Hemorrhoids when I got the Epidural, because I was pushing with the bowel muscles instead of the Vaginal ones. You can tell for sure which muscles to use when you can feel it. I would rather go through the pain of childbirth for a little while than live with the Hemorrhoids for over a year, which is how long I had them. Also, without the epidural I was able to get up as soon as the afterbirth was out. I could stand up and go to the bathroom myself to get cleaned up. With the epidural, I had to wait almost 3 hours for it to wear off enough that I could stand up without falling. I had to depend on total strangers (nurses) to clean me up, and I had to have a catheter just to be able to empty my bladder (everything was still numb, so I could not release the muscles to pee in a bed pan, not that I was big on that idea either). That made it burn everytime I went to potty for about a week afterward. My back was also really sore from the epidural being put in. They have to push really hard to find the spine and I had gained alot of weight, so he had to push through the extra skin to find the right spot. It left a really big bruise on my back and I was tender for about 6 weeks afterward. Alot of people get the epidural with no problems, or they feel like the trade off for the pain is worth it. I was begging for the epidural with my daughter because I was terrified of the pain. Since I had never felt it before, I just knew it would kill me. I was so afraid of the unknown. I am happy that I didn't have it with my daughter. I got to go to the nursey with my husband and family to see her. I didn't get left out of that experience like I did with my son, since I was able to walk and didn't have to wait for the epidural to wear off. Everyones tolerance for pain is different, and I am as big a wimp as the next person. The choice is, do you want to feel the pain for a few hours or do you want to suffer mild pain for months after the baby is born? Hope this gives you some insight. Angela.

How are you when I had my daughter (1st child) I did not have an epidural, I had been going through the same contractions for three days so I suppose u could say I had learnt how to put up with it (I had gas though) anyhow the gas dimmed the pain and I had the smallest tear they could not fit a stitch I suppose u could call it a nic but I don't know when it happened as all the other pains and feelings probably blocked that out for me so I don't know about cutting but if u tear u will probably feel it more after when healing.

Hi. I didn't have the epidural with my daughter because I didn't make it to the hospital in time. Honestly, the contractions hurt worse than the baby being born. When the baby is being born, it is the best, worst pain. I could not tell I had torn because the contractions mask the pain down there. Once the baby was out, the pain was immediately gone. I had trouble pushing out the Placenta and the afterbirth and the doctor had to manually go in after it. I remember telling him I could feel it. He didn't realize I didn't have the epidural because he got there just in time to catch the baby. Once he knew I could feel it, he was more gentle and I really didn't feel anything at all comparable to the birth. It still only felt like period cramps while he was getting it all out. Not bad. I didn't even realize I had any stitches. I think your body releases a chemical that partially numbs that part of the body during labor and delivery. I had to be cut with my son (had an epi with him) and w/my daughter, I remember begging to be cut. I thought she wouldn't come out otherwise. So, once you are in labor, the pain really doesn't matter as long as you get the baby out. It is amazing how rapidly the pain goes away afterward. Angela

Hey Luckymumma, in reply to your questions about GD, the main problem uncontrolled GD can cause is a baby that puts on too much weight. This can mean it's harder to get out (problems with vaginal birth or more likely to be a c-section) and can also pre-dispose the child to being overweight and getting type 2 diabetes later in life. Has your baby been measured lately? Has anyone followed you up on the diet? I'd say if your numbers were borderline then you should just be a bit more careful with what you eat and try to get a bit of exercise, but don't stress too much. If you can cut out excess sugars and simple carbs (white bread etc) from now it sure can't hurt. Also if your blood sugars are too high near the birth, the baby can get used to that constant supply of high sugar and gets a real shock when it's suddenly cut off, which can lead to breathing problems and things at birth. So you should check it all out with your doctor.

The extra skin that you are describing are hemoroids. THEY SUCK. I have a bad case of them this time around & very painful...like you have razor blades on & in your behind hole. I have to use a lot of Preperation H (like 5 times per day) when I get it that bad. It hurts like heck to apply (becuase you have to stick something in your bum) but feels much better after you apply. I also use tucks pads to soothe the burning on the outside of the bum hole. I feel for you, they hurt. Mine sometimes bleed too! No worries, they usually go way down & do not 'flare' after baby is born. They are caused by how much pressure is down there when we are getting closer to delivery & the baby is moving down. Just another one of those annoying symptoms of pregnancy. Hang in there, take care, & PREPERATION H!!!

I just read your post about hemmoroids. I have the exact same thing!!! They are aweful!!! The cream does not actually make them go away. The cream just helps the irritation. Trust me, you will start to feel better. Since using the cream, I don't even notice them!! I keep my cream in the fridge. The colder it is, the better it makes me feel. Good Luck!!

luckymumma....Based on what I found, the CTG is nothing more than the non-stress test. The cardiotocograph (CTG) is the machine used to monitor the baby's heart rate. They do it at the hospital where I live. Alot of the women on the boards seem to be having them done recently. I've not had one (yet).

The doctor checks your cervix for efacing & dialation by putting thier fingers inside of you & feeling it.

I have never had pain with my uti so I am not sure about that. However if it is a uti and you do not get it treated you will start to have contractions and at some point could go into labor. Please go get it checked right away. I went through this with my last and with my current. I am now 30 weeks and had contractions for 8 hours yesterday.

Hey, I read your post in the discussion area. It sounds just like a skin tag. I developed some when I was pregnant with my daughter, I developed one on my very inner thigh near my groin, two on the top of my groin, and one underneath my right boob. They are completely normal. They say sometimes they will go away after pregnancy, however mine did not. With this pregnancy oddly enough they seem to be shrinking in size. I asked my OB about removal and he mentioned to take a piece of string and tie it tight around the tag and it will just 'fall off'. I haven't had the balls to do that though. LOL I'm sure there are medical removals as well.

I figured I wd answer you on this page. It is very common to get skin tags and hemmoroids durring pregnancy. The hemmoroids are from straining to go to the bathroom. Most of tthe time the skin tags are around your neck area. If you are concerned or if it bleeds I wd let your doc know. Especially if that will ease your mind. Congrats on the baby!!!!
