Wednesday, 16 July the photos of elijah are SO great -- you didn't do a bad job with his hair, and he's still cute as a button! Cherub -
Wednesday, 16 July Thanks for the reply, oh and your bub is SO cute! I have Hayley in a bassinet in my room still, so it might be time to move her into her cot and try that. She settles herself to sleep when I first put her down, so maybe if I dont respong in those weee hours as quickly as I do now she might do the same. Take care. yolandalee -
Wednesday, 16 July I read some book reviews on the net and I think the book sounds very similar to what I'm doing :)! I found the CIO method too tough, I only tried once and I was in tears. It wasn't right for Caden at all, he would not go to sleep, he also just got more and more upset which was horrible! I will never do that again!
He is teething at the moment so he is sleeping terribly at night and I am too tired to pat and shush him at 3am!! But I am getting him to self settle in the day and when he goes down for the first time at night. So we are getting there slowly!! I think I was putting way too much pressure on me and him and it was stressing me out! When he is not so cranky with teething I will try at night too cos he will be more likely to settle without feeding. We''ll get there eventually!! notimecj -
Tuesday, 15 July Aww thank you!! I have been worried sick,, i called the doc and he said same thing as you.. if its not bleeding or smelly she should be okay.. im glad your little one is okay why would she do that? Well I put some alcohol on it and she didnt scream so i hope thats good news... ay ay ay these fragile newborns!!! btw your little boy is adorable!! yolandalee -
Tuesday, 15 July Thanks so much for your post! Elijah is too too cute!
The book sounds good, I'd like to give it a read ... what we are doing now is a much gentler approach, I lie next to him in bed and stroke his head and get him into a sleepy state and if he cries I pick him up for a cuddle then put him down when he's calm. The first time took an hour but it's getting quicker. We're only up to day 3 or 4 today. How is Elijah doing with sleep and what is your technique??? Caden is still waking frequently at night. He is trying to put himself back to sleep but keeps startling awake ... I don't know if it's all part of learning to self settle or if it's bcos of his teeth that came thru this week. I think we are getting somewhere slowly!!! babygirlnyc -

Wednesday, 2 July The middle of the night is getting better. The first night he woke up at 2, and 6 (cried for 10 mins each time, but went back down on his own. The second night (hardest night so far) he woke up at 1:30, 4, and 6 (but again, didn't cry for more then 10-15 mins each time, and went back down). And last night he stirred at midnight and 5, but only cried for maybe 1 min the first time, then 5 mins the second time. So it is getting better!
I have never picked him up from his crib during the night (or during naps) when he is crying, just so I don't confuse him. That said, he doesn't have any issues with reflux, and I know he doesn't need a feed, so I don't feel too bad leaving him to cry. I always check on him though after he is back to sleep to make sure he is still on his back.
I know what you mean about starting new. Isaac was pretty much sleeping in his bouncy chair, going to bed at 9:30-10:30, and I was feeding him at 4 or so just to get him back to sleep. The night before I ordered the book, I had tried rocking him to sleep for a hour before he went down. Letting him cry for a few minutes is so much easier on everyone! It is so much nicer to get him to bed at 8, and not only have my evening back, but know that I won't be up too much at night either.
Starting after the holidays is a good idea. I have made a good effort to make sure that this week, I am home for two of his three naps, and that we don't go out so he can go down at 8, in order to get him used to the routine. My only advice would be to be strong! If you are going to try it, don't half try it. If you pick him up sometimes, then he will cry longer knowing you will come. I love when he puts himself back down, makes me so proud, and is so worth it, to have a rested happy baby! Sorry this was so long! mummykris -
Wednesday, 2 July It is going so well, I can't believe it! So he cried for 40 mins the first night, and 10 mins the second night, and last night, I don't think he even made it to 5 mins. He also goes down for naps usually in about 5 mins. I leave, go put on laudry, or something, and when I come back to check he is out. I can't believe how well he is doing. Other then the first night, which was very hard on my heart to hear him cry, I think he has figured it out. I always find him cuddling his duck, and sucking on his hand or thumb. So cute
How are things going with you? Hopefully well! mtnwoman -
Friday, 27 June You got me thinking about supply and having the shot so I looked it up. Here is a good link with all sorts of info for the shot>

Friday, 27 June You know, I never put two and two together and I dont' know that my doc said it could affect it, but I'm pretty much stopped BFing now because my supply is very low. I have given up struggleing and trying so hard and just pump once a day and I know that will eventually die out to nothing too. I still feed Ri at night and in the morning but other than that I just dont produce. So it could be the shot, but I also know other people who are pumping mainly and their supply seems to drop as well. In any case, I'm not stressing about it anymore. That doesn't do me or anyone else any good! dannie -
Sunday, 22 June Ryland has been sleeping really well at night without the swaddle. I have not yet tried putting him to bed unwrapped because I am scared he will wake right up. For now, and for a few more weeks, I think I will stick to swaddling him to sleep and then unwrapping him once he has fallen into his deep sleep. How's it going for you?
