My first baby !

I'm so excited to be having my first baby, and have been very thrilled that so far this pregnancy has been not as tough as I hear it is for some women ( I was lucky to not to have morning sickness ). This pregnancy wasn't planned but my partner and I are embracing the pregnancy with open arms. We were going to wait a couple more years and do some traveling but I guess it was meant to be.

Our last pregnancy wasn't so successful. I had an ectopic pregnancy ( embryo plants itself somewhere other than uterine lining, in my case it was the fallopian tube ) and ended up losing a fallopian tube due to the damage. I was crushed, and wasn't sure I would be able to have a successful pregnancy with the other tube being possibly damaged as well. So this is a very special pregnancy for my partner and I.

I have never been so happy in my life that I can remember.

It's a boy!!

Just got back from the utrasound, and wow that took a long time. The tech took all sorts of pictures ! I was lying there staring at the ceiling fan wondering how my little one was doing in there. My partner was finally allowed to come in and the monitor was finally aimed at me. I was so curious as to what we were having and she showed a little protruding "nub" from in between the legs. She says she can't be 100% sure, but even Adam and I could see visibly we are going to have a son!! Boys seem to run in his family, so it's not a shocker that we are going to have one too. I'm so thrilled!!! The tech says everything looked great, we even saw him drinking some amniotic fluid! Other than that I had to cough a couple of times to get the little guy to move because it seemed he was having a snooze. What a great day so far!! The weather is at it's best today too, the warmest it's been all year with the sun shining. I feel my son is shining inside me too :)

Something is wrong?....

The results from the lastest ultrasound unveiled something called a choroid plexus cyst in the brain. The news for me has been a challenge to deal with. The Doctor said it's nothing to be alarmed about because in most cases they dissapear when the baby is 24-28 weeks. It's considered a "soft marker" which is an indication there may be a genetic disorder, but because all the other markers for a genetic disorder aren't there I've been told that everything should be ok. Luckily the area the cyst is in doesn't affect development of the baby or the personality and there is no brain damage. My little guy is simply producing too much fluid for it to drain properly (the area is associated with the spinal fluid). I wish that I could be worrying about irrelevant things like my weight and stretch marks and how bloated I feel some days instead of how my baby's brain is doing. This information really puts things in perspective that anything can happen. It's times like this I really think about the mothers to be out there that have had to deal with much more challenging things like Trisomy 18, a child with Down Syndrome, Edwards Syndrome or any other disorder. I'll just stay positive and be patient for now. His little kicks are getting more and more frequent and stronger which puts a great big smile on my face.

Awh - well thank you very much! I REALLY need to make a new profile - this profile where you commented on is the one from my last son (6 month old)...I have yet to write anything about my 'new' baby. I'm horrible at it this time since the 6 mth old is occupying ALOT of my time...he is very high maintenance. LOL Which poem exactly are you talking about and no - I don't mind at all. It's good to hear another Mommy smiling :o)

Hi there, Yes I'm getting there I have 6 weeks left and it's moving fast. I'm doing great just saw my doctor yesterday and she said all is well and the ultrasound was great we saw our little sweetie holding it's foot in it's hand. Our baby is already 5.4 pounds and measuring long so hopefully I'll make it lease past the 13th then I'll have had the other kids out of school and life arranged for them plus my oldest will have her license on the 30th of this month so she will be able to transport herself to and from and our showers are now set for the 7th and the 13th of June so we shall see. How are you doing?

if the nurse can't you can always get it ready before active labor and pushing but placing it on a table or something next to your bed. Then when you want to start it, have your husband start it...that way it won't be wobbly or anything!

Congrats on your pregnancy too! I have always like the name Olivia. It seems to be getting more and mor epopular though. I kind of wanted something more original but old fashioned to go along with my first childs name, Amelia. My husband and I were really hoping for a boy since we have a little girl already. We are quite happy with another girl now. Amelia really wants a sister anyway. Do you have a name picked out yet? I think that finding out the sex early really helps you to be able to bond with the baby growing inside. Amelia talks about Olivia as though she were already here! It is too cute. Good luck with everything. I'm sure your little one will be just fine. Dr's are brilliant these days and if he/she says not to be alarmed, than you shouldn't be. It is hard not to worry though. I had antigen issues similar to the RHo factor and had to wait through a bunch of blood tests and lab work. I was on edge until we got the news back that we should have a normal pregnancy from here on out. Quite a relief.

Thanks, it helps knowing that I'm not the only one feeling this way. It's hard to eat smaller meals especially in the morning when I'm starving. By the time my brain tells me to stop eating I've had too much and feel sick. But I may have no option but to try.

nickee - Tuesday, 6 May
I know, wasnt that great news. I have an appointment on Monday. My Dr told me that it was just for my piece of mind, that he is sure it will be gone. I think you should ask your Dr for a ultrasound so you can see that it is gone too.

professorpreggers - Tuesday, 6 May
Hey there, I thought you might be interested: I went today to finish up the level 2 that didn't get done last week and the tech checked the cyst. She said it was almost gone--so much so that if this was the first time she was seeing it she wouldn't even document it. I thought you'd want to know how quick these things can resolve themselves. It was a matter of 3 weeks or so.

you too let me know how you get on xxx

hello there! i'm sure i concieved on 25 - 26 dec! i'm very sure! and also my last period was 16 dec. that means you concieved around same date more or less 23 - 25 i think (remenber what you did for christmas) and your last period was around 10 - 13 december! any clue??? let me know.. anyway if you don't remember well the first day of your last perriod the doctors will calculate it from your u/s, from the length and measures of your angel! i'm sure when i concieved but my u/s shows i'm 1 week bigger.. and my doct told me why. so let me know ok? kisses on your belly!

I would research this for yourself to see how you feel about the risk, but I was told by friends of mine (and later read something about this) that pineapple when it is not too ripe has some sort of abortaficient property to it and if you eat enough you can miscarry. Her mom miscarried and thinks its because the only thing she could eat in her first trimester was pineapple. When they saw me eating some, they literally grabbed it out of my mouth. I did read that you have to eat it in large quantities, but needless to say, I stopped eating it.
