I'm 40, so I am considered "older mom". And I already have two teenage girls from previous relationship.

I wouldn't say I made the decision to have another child in my time of life easily. It took me more than 6 years of my new marriage to come to this. But here I am finally. Before getting pregnant I did piles of research. So, yes, I know all about risk. That is why I opted to do CVS testing at 10 weeks, which brought me a good news - no genetic abnormalities are detected. Why I didn't chose amnio? Because it is done at 16 weeks and in my opinion it is too late to terminate the pregnancy in case of severe problems.

I'm basically healthy. Before getting pregnant, I used to drink occasional glass of wine or a couple of beer with my husband. I stopped this as soon as I tested positive. I don't smoke or use drugs. I'm almost vegetarian with ocassional fish and seafood, but no meat of any kind. So I eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies and avoid junk food. I have been practicing tai chi for more than three years and I continue it now. Since I have a beloved dog, I go for a walk every day, at least three times a day. I live in Washington state in a very clean area near the forest. Oh, and I don't have extra weight. So you see, I have a reason to believe I am well fit for this pregnancy despite me being "older", so I look forward to having my baby with optimism.

14 April, Monday

30 weeks. Two-third of pregnancy is over and the big day approaches. Still feel relatively good. LIttle guy kicks me every nigh and every morning. He slows down a bit during the day, but I feel him often enough so not to worry. Continue my tai chi classes, although I have to modify movements a bit - not to bend too low, not to kick to high etc. Also I go for a walk with my dog 3-4 times a day, so it gives me additional hour or so of excercise.

15 February, Friday

Today I went for my 2nd level ulrasound. This was the first time my husband joined me for the doctor appointment. I was a little bit worried what if we discover something wrong and my hubby would be there too and there would be no way to soften the blow for him. But it went very nicely. The doctor showed us all pictures and explained that everything looked "beautiful" and "perfectly normal". He tried to involve my husband also. At one point he said, while looking on the screen, "I see your baby has a kind heart. Do you know why I can tell?", and then to my husband, "Because you have such a kind face, your baby must have a kind heart". Other time he showed us the baby holding his tumb up and said,"Look, he is saying, not to worry dad, I am ok." It was fun. Well, I am relieved that all results are good. In a couple of days I will be 22 weeks and time is flying.

28 January, Monday.

It is 19 weeks already. Almost half-way. Recently I felt the baby move for the first time. It was like definite pokes from inside. Most of them were low and some hit my bladder. Then for a couple of days there were nothing. Today I again feel something, although not as strong. I hope soon I will feel the baby moving all the time.

vvlisa - Wednesday, 7 May
Glad to hear that you are and your little one are doing good -). Way to go!!!
Luckily, I received most of the baby stuff at the shower last weekend. The nursery is almost ready, he-he, I received 3 different bedding sets , so I am still uncertain which I will keep , and the mattress should be delivered tomorrow. Still haven't washed anything and didn't pack my hosptial bag, but hoping to prep everything this weekend. I have a very hectic schedule - I still work full time and I take two evening courses, which are pre-reqs for my professional program. My final exams are scheduled for June 2nd and June 3rd lol. As far as work, I will probably stop next friday -))). How about you - do you have everything set up already?

ValR - Tuesday, 6 May

Don't think you have any need to buy 3-6 month clothes for him. I can tell you that an 8 pound baby will most certainly fit into newborn clothes. I'm a nurse and used to work in Labor and Delivery and I would actually have several "experienced" moms bring their 7-8 pound babies home in premie clothes. Newborm clothes usually swim on them when they're first born. I'm expecting ours to be 7 1/2 or so pounds and we've purchased 5-6 gowns and sleepers in premie for her to wear the first few weeks until she's bigger and fits better into newborn clothes. If I'm wrong you can let me know, but I have no doubt he will fit into a newborn size (unless they're really off with the weight and he ends up being 10+ pounds, then heaven help you!). :)

I could have written that myself as our life story has been so similar. We have been together for 5 years and 10 months and also taking care of us the whole time. they call him dad etc - we both have daughters and this time a son. I agree with you that this daddy will be one who does want a baby and the responsibility of his own child. but after being a single parent even though it was only for 2 years it is hard to give control to someone else and not override each other but I am sure it will be a different and positive experience for us both. My friend has a one yr old with a new man and kids from prev marriage but she says being an older mother is wonderful, so we have that to look forward to

Don't take back the newborn stuff just yet...Both my kids weighed over 9lbs and they still fitted into newborn for a month or so...

I felt incredible during my pregnancy at 42 -- by FAR better then when I was 29. Some of the aches and pains that have started to creep into my muscles and joints were completely gone when I was pregnant. I felt more energetic -- and looked it -- people even commented on it. I wonder if a lot of it has to do with our circulatory systems double voluming and the mega vitamins. Well, too, I was positively militant in my eating and exercising as well, so....

xAIDENSMOMMIEx - Monday, 28 April
this might sound really bad but I didnt call the dr. that night when I signed off I went straight home and layed in bed and tried to stay in bed all weekend. The pains were gone about an hour after that I thought maybe it was because I was walking a whole lot. Next time if this happens again I'll promise to call the dr. However, I see him this thursday and ill be sure to mention it. Thanks 4 the advice :)

I read your post on if the babys kicks were low or high. i had an ultrasound done today and she is head down and i am feeling most of my kicks high. I can also tell a diff in how heavy my belly feels now. before when she was breach sometimes i forgot that i even had a belly and now it feels like i have to hold my belly or its going to go straight to the floor. lol

riknlee - Friday, 25 April
I wanted to share some news with you.......Just a little note to say that my little one has been doing some major kicking last night and this morning. I love it. I feel like I am getting to know him now and the kids were wrapped to feel him kicking. they have started to bond already. Hope you are feeling well.

gigimuffin1 - Friday, 25 April
Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. It is so odd that the medical community treats you like an anomole as a 42 year old pregnant woman. I agree with you , I am in much better shape and make much better decisions in my 40's rather than the abundant fertile years of the 20's. I decided not to do CVS or amnio. I have had the blood screening which cahnged me from 1/32 to haveing a child with downs to 1/1347. The odds look good. The baby is developing normally and we are going for our level 3 ultrasound on Monday (18 weeks). Congratulations to you as well.

Thanks for commenting. Yeah she is fixed. She had pH problems before in her urine which can create crystals in her bladder. And it seems to go away when we give her the special diet wet cat food. So we will have to see. I really dont want to get rid of her but I also dont want to be cleaning urine up out of the baby's crib or play pen ya know. If we can fix this I would be so greatful

2RUSure - Thursday, 24 April
Thanks!!! It really is amazing :). I'm actually feeling really good. The area where I had my c-section is barely even sore and I up and doing pretty much everything again. Luckily, the little onesdon"t cry that much. Everyone keeps telling me it's the honeymoon period.... I hope it never ends, because, they sleep so well between each meal! I hope these last few weeks of pregnancy go great for you! You're in the home stretch! Good luck with everything :).

sunshinebaby - Thursday, 24 April
I almost have everything ready for the baby. I'm a little nervous too. I have a feeling he is going to come early. My braxton hicks are so frequent & somewhat painful, so my doctor wants to take a look. I have an U/S on Tues to see how he is doing. It feels like he is ready to fall out. (Or it could just be gravity kicking in due to age, lol) Take Care!

sunshinebaby - Thursday, 24 April
Hey Girly! Just peeking in on you & the little one. How is everything going?

clarejustin - Wednesday, 23 April
I sure said yes. He was so nervous. We have waiting until after the baby is born. Way to much to organize in so little time. Thank you.

riknlee - Tuesday, 22 April
Thanks for the message. Almost 30 minutes after writing I felt and saw him kicking! It was a great moment. My placenta is also in front. I actually felt some kicks about a week ago but nothing since then. Anyway thanks again for taking the time to write. take care

sissy36 - Tuesday, 22 April
thanks,i'll check those pages, i wish i hadn't had that test done at all.

niseybear - Tuesday, 22 April
Hey lady! Yes Mo rolls over all by himself. As I type, he has done so again in his crib just moments ago. I have to place him strategically in the crib so he doesn't get all caught up in corners or all wrapped up in the bumper. LOL You'll be holding yours before you know it and hopefully sending me tons of pictures and updates yourself. Keep me posted!

niseybear - Tuesday, 22 April
Thank you for the Passover wishes, it is a blessed one. I can't wait for Mo to be old enough to participate and really understand what's going on.
