I'm 40, so I am considered "older mom". And I already have two teenage girls from previous relationship.

I wouldn't say I made the decision to have another child in my time of life easily. It took me more than 6 years of my new marriage to come to this. But here I am finally. Before getting pregnant I did piles of research. So, yes, I know all about risk. That is why I opted to do CVS testing at 10 weeks, which brought me a good news - no genetic abnormalities are detected. Why I didn't chose amnio? Because it is done at 16 weeks and in my opinion it is too late to terminate the pregnancy in case of severe problems.

I'm basically healthy. Before getting pregnant, I used to drink occasional glass of wine or a couple of beer with my husband. I stopped this as soon as I tested positive. I don't smoke or use drugs. I'm almost vegetarian with ocassional fish and seafood, but no meat of any kind. So I eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies and avoid junk food. I have been practicing tai chi for more than three years and I continue it now. Since I have a beloved dog, I go for a walk every day, at least three times a day. I live in Washington state in a very clean area near the forest. Oh, and I don't have extra weight. So you see, I have a reason to believe I am well fit for this pregnancy despite me being "older", so I look forward to having my baby with optimism.

14 April, Monday

30 weeks. Two-third of pregnancy is over and the big day approaches. Still feel relatively good. LIttle guy kicks me every nigh and every morning. He slows down a bit during the day, but I feel him often enough so not to worry. Continue my tai chi classes, although I have to modify movements a bit - not to bend too low, not to kick to high etc. Also I go for a walk with my dog 3-4 times a day, so it gives me additional hour or so of excercise.

15 February, Friday

Today I went for my 2nd level ulrasound. This was the first time my husband joined me for the doctor appointment. I was a little bit worried what if we discover something wrong and my hubby would be there too and there would be no way to soften the blow for him. But it went very nicely. The doctor showed us all pictures and explained that everything looked "beautiful" and "perfectly normal". He tried to involve my husband also. At one point he said, while looking on the screen, "I see your baby has a kind heart. Do you know why I can tell?", and then to my husband, "Because you have such a kind face, your baby must have a kind heart". Other time he showed us the baby holding his tumb up and said,"Look, he is saying, not to worry dad, I am ok." It was fun. Well, I am relieved that all results are good. In a couple of days I will be 22 weeks and time is flying.

28 January, Monday.

It is 19 weeks already. Almost half-way. Recently I felt the baby move for the first time. It was like definite pokes from inside. Most of them were low and some hit my bladder. Then for a couple of days there were nothing. Today I again feel something, although not as strong. I hope soon I will feel the baby moving all the time.

i think me and the children willl try reusable nappies, were really trying to help the enviroment, and it takes 10 years for 1 nappie to fully decompose and where we live disposable nappies at the rubbish tips are a problem..... and thanks for ur comment,s its nice to hear that ive made the right decisions.. im starting to get more excited, which is a relief as i really wasnt sure id feel like this, .x..x thanks chick.. how are you anyways?

kater - Monday, 14 Jan
thanks for your comment on my page. yes i know he will be fine once the bub is born, he is a WONDERFUL father to our daughter, its funny though, just how much emphasis others put onto 'normal dad-to-be behavior' he is the best man and i am lucky to have found him:) i think people should do what is right for them, not what others think is right-though my friends do think he is a little strange for not being 'into' the pregnancy, but i think its more important he is 'into' being a father!! good on you for sticking to your guns in the delivery ward, its your decision, who cares what others think

Thanks for taking the time to write me a message - I am realistic about these things, and agree that everything you read says it will be more like 20 weeks when you feel movement with your first baby - it just seems that everyone else is getting it earlier!!

You might be right though, they could be thinking things are the baby moving when actually they aren't - but I suppose we are all different, and like you say - it will happen soon enough!

Sounds like you will be in for a bit of a shock with a new baby after so long! Good luck with it.

Thank you for your advice and the first person i called when he told me this was my mom. She told me about the Child Support Process here in CA since she received it for me and my sister. Sam and I have not been bf/gf for a long while, but he has continued to tell me he loves me and things along that line... true i also did too, but last night i confronted him about our relationship, and how we have to stop that because it makes me confused and want a deeper emotional relationship with him which i know he doesn't want. He didn't like that... Sam knows that dirt that i have done, which i haven't done any since October 31 2007... I've talked to some legal people and they say that Sam cannot get custody unless i do something to harm the baby in the remainder of my pregnancy or of his life... which I AM NOT GOING TO DO. I don't know I am trying to figure things out with the help of my parents, a friend in the Legal area and the advice of the mothers on here... thanks so much I appreciate your concern. How is your baby doing??? Boy or GIrl?? Name????

Thank u!! I love my baby bump!...and I love showing it off all the time! heehee - this is my 1st baby! :)
I have heard the name Nikolai before...and like I said, I think it's a great name! Plus, if you want it to sound a little more American, you can call him Nik for short (like Nick)! :)

Thanks for the nice message, yes, the comments aren't necessary that people make, but I figure it is there stuff, obviously not mine and like you I spent a lot of time and thought into making the decison to have another child. My boys are happy for me, my older son said he can't believe I'm starting over again and my younger son is so excited to have a new brother, baby's room will be right across from him and little kids love him. So it is all good. Good luck to you, sounds like everything is going great!

How cool! 2 girls and now a son? I have a 12 year old son. I don't find out until Wednesday.

christy114 - Friday, 11 Jan
I Love Nickolai! I think it is a great name! Are you having a boy for sure?

mommi2b - Friday, 11 Jan
I really like the name Nikolai. If my hubby and I have a boy (what we are hoping for!) we are thinking of naming him Nicholas :)

Hey Tess42 and Mama40.
Thanx so much. I think this website is just awesome. Earlier I checked out some of the other chat rooms and I voted in some of the polls. Surfing around on this actually keeps my mind off how sick I am all day. I appreciate learning from other moms experiences 'cause I dont remember much about my first pregnancy. I certainly dont remember being this sick... and constipated... and sleepy... and dizzy... and my boobs being timebombs, ouch!! :)

On vaccinations- if you don't want the immunizations check to see about a form to object here it is called 'Conscientious Objection'. When I have one I give the form, parent fills it out, has it notirized then I send it to Dept. of Health. and that is all they have to do. Good luck to you.

thank you and yeah. i try not to get upset and i'm doing a good job at it! i just remember that they do not know what going on. the only one who somewhat understands is my best friend who has stuck with me through all of this. two days before we hung out for a long time and he got to feel the baby kick and move. he was just as devastated as i was and i'm so grateful because of that. i feel like everyone who i've told was upset when i told them but now they've just forgotten and don't really even think of it. one of my good friends frantically came up to me today and asked 'do you have a tampon?' dumb question yes, but i yelled 'DO YOU THINK I HAVE ONE?!' and she's all 'oh yeah... sorry'. that really got to me. and my other good friend who i haven't told just had a baby [i don't want to tell her yet to make her upset when she's enjoying her little one] and i saw her today and when i was holding him she said 'i wish i could give him the world, i love him so much he takes up my life. you're going to feel the same way when your daughter comes. its going to be wonderful.' i cannot tell you how fast i wanted to get out of that room. and i excused myself and as soon as i left the room i just started bawling. her words, as kind as they were...were just a knife to the heart.

Thank you so much for the kind words!!! It's nice to see a place where so much support is out there. Thank you!!!

Thanks so much for your message about pregnancy urinary incontinence. It feels good to know that this is something that other pregnant mothers have experienced. :)

michir - Tuesday, 8 Jan
thank you so much.

us-n-kenzie - Monday, 7 Jan
My pregnancy is a first for my husband, too...my daughter was with my ex-husband. Isn't it funny how nervous the first time dads are about things that we dont think twice about now that we have done this already?

us-n-kenzie - Monday, 7 Jan
WoW! 16 year old twins and a new baby coming...how great is that!! Congratulations on the baby. Was it planned, may I ask? Mine was not...this was a surprise baby that found a way to get around my bc pills. LoL. I wish you all the best.

mommi2b - Monday, 7 Jan
Ya know, I knew that too...about lying on my back, cuz I'm careful not to do it when I sleep at night. But I'm such an airhead, cuz I didn't even think about it while watching tv or reading...
Until you just said it! I'm such a bonehead sometimes! Thanks! I'll be sure to lay tilted or to the side always from now on! :) PS - Congrats on your pregnancy!!! :)

lov2smile1821 - Sunday, 6 Jan
Thanks I know that they put the id bracelets on them but I didn't want to have to leave them on cause they are not to cute. I was thinking of just buying some white gold ones. But thank you for helping me out.
