I'm 40, so I am considered "older mom". And I already have two teenage girls from previous relationship.

I wouldn't say I made the decision to have another child in my time of life easily. It took me more than 6 years of my new marriage to come to this. But here I am finally. Before getting pregnant I did piles of research. So, yes, I know all about risk. That is why I opted to do CVS testing at 10 weeks, which brought me a good news - no genetic abnormalities are detected. Why I didn't chose amnio? Because it is done at 16 weeks and in my opinion it is too late to terminate the pregnancy in case of severe problems.

I'm basically healthy. Before getting pregnant, I used to drink occasional glass of wine or a couple of beer with my husband. I stopped this as soon as I tested positive. I don't smoke or use drugs. I'm almost vegetarian with ocassional fish and seafood, but no meat of any kind. So I eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies and avoid junk food. I have been practicing tai chi for more than three years and I continue it now. Since I have a beloved dog, I go for a walk every day, at least three times a day. I live in Washington state in a very clean area near the forest. Oh, and I don't have extra weight. So you see, I have a reason to believe I am well fit for this pregnancy despite me being "older", so I look forward to having my baby with optimism.

14 April, Monday

30 weeks. Two-third of pregnancy is over and the big day approaches. Still feel relatively good. LIttle guy kicks me every nigh and every morning. He slows down a bit during the day, but I feel him often enough so not to worry. Continue my tai chi classes, although I have to modify movements a bit - not to bend too low, not to kick to high etc. Also I go for a walk with my dog 3-4 times a day, so it gives me additional hour or so of excercise.

15 February, Friday

Today I went for my 2nd level ulrasound. This was the first time my husband joined me for the doctor appointment. I was a little bit worried what if we discover something wrong and my hubby would be there too and there would be no way to soften the blow for him. But it went very nicely. The doctor showed us all pictures and explained that everything looked "beautiful" and "perfectly normal". He tried to involve my husband also. At one point he said, while looking on the screen, "I see your baby has a kind heart. Do you know why I can tell?", and then to my husband, "Because you have such a kind face, your baby must have a kind heart". Other time he showed us the baby holding his tumb up and said,"Look, he is saying, not to worry dad, I am ok." It was fun. Well, I am relieved that all results are good. In a couple of days I will be 22 weeks and time is flying.

28 January, Monday.

It is 19 weeks already. Almost half-way. Recently I felt the baby move for the first time. It was like definite pokes from inside. Most of them were low and some hit my bladder. Then for a couple of days there were nothing. Today I again feel something, although not as strong. I hope soon I will feel the baby moving all the time.

Hello! Congrats on your pregnancy. I too am an AMA (43 yrs.) and my youngest will be 17 yrs. one month after this baby is born. It is exciting. Kinda feels like I've never been pregnant before, it's been so long. I also have a son who will be 20 yrs. a month after baby is born. I too am rh- and I have already had 2 rhogham shots because of early spotting and then with my amnio. I'll have to have another one in about a month. Take care!

I am of Russian heritage. My great grandmother was born there to be exact. My mother grew up in the former Yugoslavia...I think it's not considered Slovenia. In any case, thanks for the comment :)

Hello,
I just thought I would stop by and see how you were feeling. Happy New Year to you and your family!

Thanks for your comment. Yeah, I guess I didn't think that people were going to be doing backflips over my news, but I thought some of these folks would at least send the obligatory 'congrats' by now. Hopefully they're just busy w/ holidays though. I think it's just hard b/c in my mind I'm thinking, I wasn't having babies back when they were, but I was excited for them! Not that I wanted to sit around and talk about it all day, but I would never deny them the opportunity to be excited just b/c I'm not in that same phase of life. Oh well. Like I said, I feel kind of selfish b/c I actually do have several friends who are quite supportive. Guess I just need to focus on them right now, and stop worrying about some of the rest! Thanks again, and best of luck!

Hi, i hope to keep in touch with you too. I just added you to my list of friends.

So glad to hear that i am not the only one that is still very tired. I went through the tiredness in my 2nd and 3rd months. It did get better, but i still find that by the end of the day i am ready to rest. I need at least 8 hours of sleep per night, which has been a drastic change from the schedule that i had before i was pregnant when i was always busy. But, to have a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby it is totally worth it. Plus, this is our first for both me and my hubby so we are extra excited.

For our Rh factor, we are keeping on top of it. We feel fortunate that the medical staff is also on top of the testing as well. They have been giving me shots.

Today we received our results from the quad screening blood test and it was all negative. Take care. :)

Hi, I just read your Dec 19 message on the AMA board. My nausea has diminished from the first trimester, but I am still feeling tired and really needing the extra rest. I am also having frequent headaches and I am a person that never got headaches before being pregnant.

Hi there! I had spicy bloody marys w/no vodka at my Christmas parties and it was very tasty! I too have decided not to have any alcohol. My doc does not advocate alcohol during pregnancy and I trust her. Small sacrifice for our little angels!!:)

Thanks for your encouraging words... I try not to stress myself out over this but I'm addicted to this site so every time I'm on here I'm wondering when it's going to be my time... but I know I have to be patient... i can't FORCE it to happen (no matter how much I try lol) Again, thank you.

Hey. Thanks for the advice. That is what my Boyfriend tells me all the time. He hates when i stress about it. I just want to have a family with him. Its very understandable. But you are right i just dont need to worry about it. I try not to get upset when i take a pregnancy test and it comes out negative, It just makes me think about alot of stuff. But thanks again for the advice.

My 5 are from my first marriage also and then the 6 year old and this new one are from my second marriage. I just noticed your girls birthday (December 20) is the same day as my 6 year old's!!! Tell them Happy Birthday!! It so changes you life to have a little one around again! I had forgotten all the little joys since mine were older and then everything seemed new and exciting again through the eyes of my little one. It keeps you young! Good luck with your pregnancy and enjoy it!!

momof6 - Wednesday, 19 Dec
Wow! Tell me how it goes when you tell your teenagers! I have 5 older ones and they did not take it well at first at all! My 17 year old is still up and down. The others have accepted it, but still wonder why in the world at 44 I need another baby!!! I hope that once the baby is here, they can't resist how cute they are!!! I have a 6 year old also that they love dearly, so I am sure it's just a matter of time. They are more worried about me than anything else I think. Let me know!!!

I think it's a combination of age AND that every pregnancy is different. This one has been the most different for me by far but the hardest one was my 3rd child at 28. Of course it's still early for me to say the amount of difficulty I'll have now but so far so good. When I first told my kids my 16 yo was the most bothered by the idea. But as time has gone on, she is more excited and helpful about it. Good luck.
