I'm 40, so I am considered "older mom". And I already have two teenage girls from previous relationship.

I wouldn't say I made the decision to have another child in my time of life easily. It took me more than 6 years of my new marriage to come to this. But here I am finally. Before getting pregnant I did piles of research. So, yes, I know all about risk. That is why I opted to do CVS testing at 10 weeks, which brought me a good news - no genetic abnormalities are detected. Why I didn't chose amnio? Because it is done at 16 weeks and in my opinion it is too late to terminate the pregnancy in case of severe problems.

I'm basically healthy. Before getting pregnant, I used to drink occasional glass of wine or a couple of beer with my husband. I stopped this as soon as I tested positive. I don't smoke or use drugs. I'm almost vegetarian with ocassional fish and seafood, but no meat of any kind. So I eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies and avoid junk food. I have been practicing tai chi for more than three years and I continue it now. Since I have a beloved dog, I go for a walk every day, at least three times a day. I live in Washington state in a very clean area near the forest. Oh, and I don't have extra weight. So you see, I have a reason to believe I am well fit for this pregnancy despite me being "older", so I look forward to having my baby with optimism.

14 April, Monday

30 weeks. Two-third of pregnancy is over and the big day approaches. Still feel relatively good. LIttle guy kicks me every nigh and every morning. He slows down a bit during the day, but I feel him often enough so not to worry. Continue my tai chi classes, although I have to modify movements a bit - not to bend too low, not to kick to high etc. Also I go for a walk with my dog 3-4 times a day, so it gives me additional hour or so of excercise.

15 February, Friday

Today I went for my 2nd level ulrasound. This was the first time my husband joined me for the doctor appointment. I was a little bit worried what if we discover something wrong and my hubby would be there too and there would be no way to soften the blow for him. But it went very nicely. The doctor showed us all pictures and explained that everything looked "beautiful" and "perfectly normal". He tried to involve my husband also. At one point he said, while looking on the screen, "I see your baby has a kind heart. Do you know why I can tell?", and then to my husband, "Because you have such a kind face, your baby must have a kind heart". Other time he showed us the baby holding his tumb up and said,"Look, he is saying, not to worry dad, I am ok." It was fun. Well, I am relieved that all results are good. In a couple of days I will be 22 weeks and time is flying.

28 January, Monday.

It is 19 weeks already. Almost half-way. Recently I felt the baby move for the first time. It was like definite pokes from inside. Most of them were low and some hit my bladder. Then for a couple of days there were nothing. Today I again feel something, although not as strong. I hope soon I will feel the baby moving all the time.

Hi, Anna, I have been OK, that is, probably, why I was not active very much on the forum; got a little detached. Well, now is 6 am Sturday and I am here, because I am a little worried: after sex yesterday I went to the restroom this morning and has some pink discharge. I hope that all that is going to but, of course, I am concerned. I do not have any pains or contractions, but still, it is first time it happend.
Ohterwise, I had my Dr app-t yesterday and got blood work and glucose test. I gained a lot so far, about 28lb total, out of those 8lb past 4 weeks and 11lb previous 4 weeks. This is a big jump from before. But the baby measures right on term - 26-27 cm. I also started my allergy season. I usually have respiratory symptoms first, but now all I am having is hives. Very, very annoying. I take Zyrtec or Allegra (antihistamines), and they help, spots go away in about 2 hrs, but neither medication lasts 24 hrs. Well, I have been living with this for years, so, I can handle it as long as the baby is OK. I have been reading other people massages and si I know that you are doing great, I even told my husband a few days ago that your are the perfect pregnant woman, doing daily exersices and Tai-Chi classes still. I was even wondering if growing stomach does not affect your balance during those classes. But, I gues, if you've been doing them for a long time, it should be Ok.
We have not bought much, we we more involved in searching for another house, to no success so far. I was thinking about cloth diapers, my niece did this, but she washed them by herself, but I do not think I care about environment that much, I was happy with disposal last time ans will, probably do the same now.
Thank you for your message, take care. Irena

Hey Mama40, how are things these days? How are you feeling, well I hope?

I gave a friend of mine 2 months worth of diaper service for her baby shower...she was thrilled and said it worked out great. The only trick was storing them somewhere inconspicuous, but if you live in a house and not a condo or apartment, then I don't think you will have a problem. Changing on the go means keeping dirty diapers with you, so make sure you have ziploc bags on you! The service was always reliable, and not any more expensive than premium disposables.

Thanks so much for your comment. It really helps.

Yes, he will be there, because I want to remind him about the pain every time I want something in the future.:) I've been with him for 10 years, he has seen me at my worst and honestly I can't imagine anyone else calming me down like he can.
With that said...do what you are comfortable with. If you going to be shy about him being there, then maybe it's not a good idea. You will have enough to worry about.

I am also from Russia...from St.Petersburg. Maybe, that is where the attitude come from.:) Thank you for your post and totally agree.

I've been reading your comments about vitamins. I appreciate your thoughts and advice. You've been through it before and I have found comfort in your advice. Vitamins have been very hard for me. :) Congrats on the baby!

jennifersd - Monday, 17 Mar
The remark at H & R block was a complement to you. She probably thought you were the 'new much younger wife'

Take care

hello.. 38 year old mom here. have two teens and a ten year old. all boys. carrying another boy now. i agree with what you said about being honest about how you're feeling. if you're tired, just say so. if you're sick, say so, etc. It's true, as parents we try to be super human and not let them have that reality check. And yes, we create selfish human beings. Just thought to say, My sentiments exactly.

I think a driving trip would be great! I am on bed rest, but not super strict, so I like my hubby to drive me places with the seat reclined way back. I would not fly in the third trimester. I actually think a really stressful business trip is what landed me on bedrest at 23 weeks, so I learned my lesson. But driving should be a blast--especially if hubby doesn't mind stopping for lots of potty breaks. You guys could even make it into a little last romantic getaway for a while. Have fun!

Hey Mama

Thanks for the insite.
do you know I think it is because she is jelous that I am able to leave work. She is from South Africa and when she had her son 21 years ago the dont get any sort of maternity leave at all. all she keeps doing since I have given the date to leave is keep telling me that they had to work and when I had an appointment to see my SPD she hda to make a comment about when she was pregnant you just had a baby and there was no winging about anything.
OMG I cant wait to leave and I AM NOT COMING BACK!!! I'll take my 39 weeks with crap pay then they can kiss my back side!!!!

Thanks for the info on the self tanners.

I am gettign like a burning pain sensation under my right rib cage???? So weird. The doctor sid it could either be a gallbladder problem, but I have no family history, or the baby pressing under the rib....which i think is most likely what it is. Anyways, I sympathize with you though...it doesn't feel too great!

ozbaby - Wednesday, 12 Mar
I have been getting bad rib pain in the past few weeks on and off and it HURTS!!! Apparenty the muscles tear away from the ribcage so it can expand. I always get it in the same spot on the right hand side right where my bra sits. It aches and feels like i have been punched in the chest. I hope yours is not too bad.

Izziebo - Tuesday, 11 Mar
