I'm 40, so I am considered "older mom". And I already have two teenage girls from previous relationship.

I wouldn't say I made the decision to have another child in my time of life easily. It took me more than 6 years of my new marriage to come to this. But here I am finally. Before getting pregnant I did piles of research. So, yes, I know all about risk. That is why I opted to do CVS testing at 10 weeks, which brought me a good news - no genetic abnormalities are detected. Why I didn't chose amnio? Because it is done at 16 weeks and in my opinion it is too late to terminate the pregnancy in case of severe problems.

I'm basically healthy. Before getting pregnant, I used to drink occasional glass of wine or a couple of beer with my husband. I stopped this as soon as I tested positive. I don't smoke or use drugs. I'm almost vegetarian with ocassional fish and seafood, but no meat of any kind. So I eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies and avoid junk food. I have been practicing tai chi for more than three years and I continue it now. Since I have a beloved dog, I go for a walk every day, at least three times a day. I live in Washington state in a very clean area near the forest. Oh, and I don't have extra weight. So you see, I have a reason to believe I am well fit for this pregnancy despite me being "older", so I look forward to having my baby with optimism.

14 April, Monday

30 weeks. Two-third of pregnancy is over and the big day approaches. Still feel relatively good. LIttle guy kicks me every nigh and every morning. He slows down a bit during the day, but I feel him often enough so not to worry. Continue my tai chi classes, although I have to modify movements a bit - not to bend too low, not to kick to high etc. Also I go for a walk with my dog 3-4 times a day, so it gives me additional hour or so of excercise.

15 February, Friday

Today I went for my 2nd level ulrasound. This was the first time my husband joined me for the doctor appointment. I was a little bit worried what if we discover something wrong and my hubby would be there too and there would be no way to soften the blow for him. But it went very nicely. The doctor showed us all pictures and explained that everything looked "beautiful" and "perfectly normal". He tried to involve my husband also. At one point he said, while looking on the screen, "I see your baby has a kind heart. Do you know why I can tell?", and then to my husband, "Because you have such a kind face, your baby must have a kind heart". Other time he showed us the baby holding his tumb up and said,"Look, he is saying, not to worry dad, I am ok." It was fun. Well, I am relieved that all results are good. In a couple of days I will be 22 weeks and time is flying.

28 January, Monday.

It is 19 weeks already. Almost half-way. Recently I felt the baby move for the first time. It was like definite pokes from inside. Most of them were low and some hit my bladder. Then for a couple of days there were nothing. Today I again feel something, although not as strong. I hope soon I will feel the baby moving all the time.

Hey! Hope things are going amazingly :) I didn't end up switching, the two other ob's here are actually on Holidays so either way I'd be stuck with him regardless (gotta love small towns, lol). BUT at the appointment about two weeks ago he actually checked my swelling and took notice of my BP, I was amazing, literally shocked. I went back last week and it was still high so he doubled up the BP med's. He still hasn't checked for effacement or anything yet (Not that I am complaining) but I think the baby is just starting to drop now so that could be why? I dont know. He is a man of very, very few words *lol*. I see him on Thursday again and I'll be 38 weeks Friday so maybe he'll induce? God only knows and he ain't tellin.... Take care and I hope things are great with you :) xoxox

HI - No she isn't. I'm Dutch so I am used to basic hygiene differences between cultures and this tends not to bother me. But it goes WAY beyond that. I even wondered if perhaps she had some aging mental health issues because she is in her early 70's. She has been the receptionist here for 40 years and it has become part of her daily social activity and she just can't seem to retire. I don't know what to do - Thanks for your input though. And good luck with your pregnancy! I love hearing your perspectives!

awh thanks for your message. I guess I just get freaked out sometimes, normal paranoia of a pregnant mother (lol) of her unborn child. But yes, somedays she is hiccuping NON STOP. Others, there will be no sign of hiccups. None today, as of yet and it's night time now. I think it's just because she is developing. It's so sweet. <3 Thanks for your message by the way :]

Thanks so much. Alot of people have never heard of this being done, so it does make me kinda nervous, but from what I read, it's not as uncommon as I first thought.

Sorry this maybe a stupid question but, my SIL is due 6 weeks after me and she has been told that just because she is O negative she has to have 2 injections before the baby is born and one after. Do they have to test the babies blood to now if he/she is a positive while mum is a negative? I know don't have to worry about it as I'm O positive but I worry about my SIL sometimes. Any help or advice is gratefully appreciated. Thanks. x x x x x

thanks for your comments on the forum page we have a son whos autistic which is something thats taken very seriously so it wasnt like we wernt under stress before we just didnt feel the need to argue over ' wheres the sponge LOL 'its my hormones as we are perfectly fine now .I wouldnt tolerate any man pointing his fingers in my face being a bully but my husband is nothing like that hes kind caring considerate attentive and a fabulous dad and very pleasing so i am extremly lucky. I just wanted some reassuraance that im not the only only going cranky and having flip outs for nothing lol Best of luck with your pregnancy

Well, I go on Mat leave next week. In Canada we get almost a year so I am going to take some 'get ready time'. That's when I will pack my bag. ;) Sorry about the whole '...well my wife has a great job, she gets paid to be off...' thing your hubby said. Sometimes my husband is a real prince & he seems to 'get it' & then other times, he says the most insensitive things & can't understand why I would have a problem with it. That's one of those little differences between men & women I guess...although it is super annoying. If you need to talk, you know where I am.

oh hell...your husband sounds like mine. Like all I do all day is have a good time. Well how does the house get clean???? He must think I twitch my nose and boom its done. Men can be buttheads. Just tell him do you want to take turns and I will let you do this for a while? Ugh I swear sometimes I think we need to write down a schedule of what the hell we do all day for them. Sorry your feeling down about it. I hope it gets better. Take Care hun.

Has your baby been hitting your bladder?

M.M.Masi - Tuesday, 26 Feb
Thanks so much for the comment. We'll see what happens. He's become really close to the TV not coming to bed until long after I've fallen asleep. I guess his way of coping with it.

Anna, I see, you've began a shopping spree. Are you going to have a nursery? We will not. Our master bedroom is downstairs and the rest of bdrms upstairs, so we had a crib in our room for a couple of years with Liza, until we moved her upstairs, and then I slept with her in the same room another year. We want to buy a 1 story house, so we could be closer to this set of younger kids (older set will move out by summer), but it is hard to find big enough 1 story(I want > 3,000 sf). In this range it is mostly custom built. Remember that famous saying that everything in Teaxas is big? We are spoiled here - my husband refused from a house with 2 baths, how can children share the same bath, it is just horrible! We have 3.5 now.
I think I might allow myself to buy something after my u/s, just one more mental barrier will be passed. It is interesting how Russians and Americans respond to my obvious now PG. Americans ask straightforward question and when hear 'yes', hug, congratulate, etc. Our people are afraid to ask, gossip behind the back and in face pretend that they do not notice anything. Funny, how culture is different! I work in Adult Day Activity center with elderly Russians as my second job. None of them asked me a question if I am PG or if everything is OK or wish me a healthy child, but they approach my in-laws who also go here with this question. Even my in-laws asked my husband if I am PG, but when we meet, they do not aknowledge it at all. I am kind of pissed off about this pretence, but I understand this mentality, it is how our elder do in order not to jinx it. I, probably, posess some of it, but American way appeals to me much more.
Have a happy shopping! Remember, if you find some interesting product, or a good deal online, send me a link. I would appreciate it.

It is very reasuring to know that your twins are normal and healthy. I don't eat fish so I will look into the omega 3 oils. Thanks and good luck!

I just got one of those (co-sleeper). First time I am trying! It is really cool though! I bought one off ebay that was never used and got a real good deal! It can be a 'playpen' type thing too! I have a pic of it under my photos on my page if ya wanna take a look! They have two different sizes.... If you go to www.armsreach.com they show you all the different styles and sizes! I love that website. It tells how much weight each one supports, etc.... I hope this helps!
