I'm 40, so I am considered "older mom". And I already have two teenage girls from previous relationship.

I wouldn't say I made the decision to have another child in my time of life easily. It took me more than 6 years of my new marriage to come to this. But here I am finally. Before getting pregnant I did piles of research. So, yes, I know all about risk. That is why I opted to do CVS testing at 10 weeks, which brought me a good news - no genetic abnormalities are detected. Why I didn't chose amnio? Because it is done at 16 weeks and in my opinion it is too late to terminate the pregnancy in case of severe problems.

I'm basically healthy. Before getting pregnant, I used to drink occasional glass of wine or a couple of beer with my husband. I stopped this as soon as I tested positive. I don't smoke or use drugs. I'm almost vegetarian with ocassional fish and seafood, but no meat of any kind. So I eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies and avoid junk food. I have been practicing tai chi for more than three years and I continue it now. Since I have a beloved dog, I go for a walk every day, at least three times a day. I live in Washington state in a very clean area near the forest. Oh, and I don't have extra weight. So you see, I have a reason to believe I am well fit for this pregnancy despite me being "older", so I look forward to having my baby with optimism.

14 April, Monday

30 weeks. Two-third of pregnancy is over and the big day approaches. Still feel relatively good. LIttle guy kicks me every nigh and every morning. He slows down a bit during the day, but I feel him often enough so not to worry. Continue my tai chi classes, although I have to modify movements a bit - not to bend too low, not to kick to high etc. Also I go for a walk with my dog 3-4 times a day, so it gives me additional hour or so of excercise.

15 February, Friday

Today I went for my 2nd level ulrasound. This was the first time my husband joined me for the doctor appointment. I was a little bit worried what if we discover something wrong and my hubby would be there too and there would be no way to soften the blow for him. But it went very nicely. The doctor showed us all pictures and explained that everything looked "beautiful" and "perfectly normal". He tried to involve my husband also. At one point he said, while looking on the screen, "I see your baby has a kind heart. Do you know why I can tell?", and then to my husband, "Because you have such a kind face, your baby must have a kind heart". Other time he showed us the baby holding his tumb up and said,"Look, he is saying, not to worry dad, I am ok." It was fun. Well, I am relieved that all results are good. In a couple of days I will be 22 weeks and time is flying.

28 January, Monday.

It is 19 weeks already. Almost half-way. Recently I felt the baby move for the first time. It was like definite pokes from inside. Most of them were low and some hit my bladder. Then for a couple of days there were nothing. Today I again feel something, although not as strong. I hope soon I will feel the baby moving all the time.

well i was readin that the paternity test is done the same way.. To obtain a sample for the test, it is necessary that either chorionic villi sampling or amniocentesis be used. It depends on which stage of pregnancy you are in as to which procedure will be done. so0 im thinking maybe they could do all that testing at one time. because im pretty sure im going to end up getting the CVS done. so0 maybe they could also do the paternity test at the same time. u kno wat im saying? i was just wondering if it was safe. im so0 nervous.!

Yes, i wish you much luck on your 3D ultrasound. Mine went great except was not able to get all of the pics that she wanted because of the position that my daughter was in so Tuesday's appointment is the second half of the first one.
Good luck with your appointment. Glad to hear that things are going well so far.

Hi, I am still not feeling my baby very much. I am 22-weeks along. I do feel a little something in the morning and in the evening. At first I think it might be something that i ate, then i realize that it is my baby.

I have an ultrasound appointment on Tuesday that i am really looking forward too. I will post a message on my page to let everyone know how things are going, plus put the latest pic up. I love seeing the baby on the screen.

So far my docs appointments have been totally normal, so i am trying not to worry. How has your pregnancy been going so far? Mine has been going well. For me the second trimester has been easier than the first. Take care.

Hi Mama40, just saw your post about sharing your room with the baby. We are having to do that this time round too, as our son is 13 with his own room and our daughter 8 with her own room. So the cot will go our bedroom with 2 drawers allocated to baby and two shelves in the walk in robe. Dreading it in a way, but it is mine and my husbands cross to bear as we planned this baby, but are unable to move at the moment to a bigger home, maybe in a year or two. Good luck to you too!

Anna, you are right. Sometimes my husband infuriated me by his tolerance. He has always been a peace- maker in our house. But he is also the one who is more at peace with himslef. I am sure it goes hand in hand. I often have to stop and will myself to look in perspective. I think me and my daughter somewhat alike in that, that is maybe why we conflict more. Apple does not fall far from the the apple tree? I also talked with my mom this morning (she lives in NY and we deal much, much better in distance relationship). She told me that her mom had her last child, half-brother, at 45 and my mom felt a lot of jelousy, blaming getting less attention on his presence. Also, I think, kids often feel disgusted about parents having sex. These feelings, I think, happen on subconsuos level, it make them angry, but they blame different things.
I was curious, what kind of work do you do, you said you write something, is it like a journalist? Your writing style is very good. I also admire your going to tha-chi classes. I tried a couple of times in my gym, but it seemed too slow, not sweaty enough. I love step classes and got pretty good (but I go to gym in spurs). Now I am a couch potato. I gained 9 lb so far, I gained 55 with my last PG. I am not totally sure if one can limit gain short of starving, I think mother nature plays a major role here. Nice talking to you.

Thanks for the m/s info! It is sooo nice to have people here who know just how sucky it is :). I hope you get over your bug soon and start feeling better. What kind of remidies are you doing? Take care!!

How are you feeling? Anything new? Morning sickness is NO fun! How long did yours last? I am just trying to get through day by day. Ugh! Its like the worst flu, food posiening and hangover all rolled into one. I don't have a clue how people can have 14 kids!! :)

I called my genetic counselor to ask about anatomical measurements that my high risk Dr did right before my amnio. She said that what he measured, and I remember he spent good 10 min going from head to toes, was normal. Of course it probably was not as detailed as Level 2 will be, but at least it should give me a peace of mind, major things should remain unchanged. If there were any gross abnormalities, he would have picked it up then.

Hi. Thanks for the reply in the single mothers forum. I am going to tell him soon about being pregnant. WE both have to make a change if we want it to work. I don't know. Glad you found the right man... he sounds lovely! (does he have a brother, ha ha)

Hows it going?

niseybear - Thursday, 7 Feb
Awwww thanks lady! We are complimented on his eyes often. Many can't believe how observant and focused he is for only 2 months. I can though...I'm momma, I've got a BRIGHT little man. I read to him as often as I can and I sing to him. Our song right now is YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE. However I put his name in where sunshine is. He LOVES when I sing that to him!! He likes the Dr. Seuss books too. I read those to him when he was in the womb.

I'm glad your well, Moshe is very well too. Sleeping right now on his bobby while mommy types. LOL

I know the young lady you speak of. I've been to her page twice. Unfortunately Dirk nor Laura will remove the photos because the baby isn't deceased in the photos. She's very bright-eyed and alive. It does tug at me to see the pictures and now that little angel is no longer here. I left a message on her page for her. Of course it bugged for a week about the SIDS, that's how her baby died. I worried about Mo. HOWEVER, G-d has blessed hubby and I too greatly to take that little one now. He's going to be with us for a LONG time to come. I feel sorry for the young lady, but she over did it. We are here for each other in good times and bad, but some just over do it.

Thanks for letting me know. I'm glad you are well. Keep in touch and enjoy your pregnancy lady! I can't tell you how many pictures of stillborns I came across on this site while I was pregnant. It messed me up! And I worried constantly...what it..what if. The what if wasn't, and I had a beautiful baby boy...ALIVE, HEALTHY, AND HAPPY! Keep smiling' lady!
