I'm 40, so I am considered "older mom". And I already have two teenage girls from previous relationship.

I wouldn't say I made the decision to have another child in my time of life easily. It took me more than 6 years of my new marriage to come to this. But here I am finally. Before getting pregnant I did piles of research. So, yes, I know all about risk. That is why I opted to do CVS testing at 10 weeks, which brought me a good news - no genetic abnormalities are detected. Why I didn't chose amnio? Because it is done at 16 weeks and in my opinion it is too late to terminate the pregnancy in case of severe problems.

I'm basically healthy. Before getting pregnant, I used to drink occasional glass of wine or a couple of beer with my husband. I stopped this as soon as I tested positive. I don't smoke or use drugs. I'm almost vegetarian with ocassional fish and seafood, but no meat of any kind. So I eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies and avoid junk food. I have been practicing tai chi for more than three years and I continue it now. Since I have a beloved dog, I go for a walk every day, at least three times a day. I live in Washington state in a very clean area near the forest. Oh, and I don't have extra weight. So you see, I have a reason to believe I am well fit for this pregnancy despite me being "older", so I look forward to having my baby with optimism.

14 April, Monday

30 weeks. Two-third of pregnancy is over and the big day approaches. Still feel relatively good. LIttle guy kicks me every nigh and every morning. He slows down a bit during the day, but I feel him often enough so not to worry. Continue my tai chi classes, although I have to modify movements a bit - not to bend too low, not to kick to high etc. Also I go for a walk with my dog 3-4 times a day, so it gives me additional hour or so of excercise.

15 February, Friday

Today I went for my 2nd level ulrasound. This was the first time my husband joined me for the doctor appointment. I was a little bit worried what if we discover something wrong and my hubby would be there too and there would be no way to soften the blow for him. But it went very nicely. The doctor showed us all pictures and explained that everything looked "beautiful" and "perfectly normal". He tried to involve my husband also. At one point he said, while looking on the screen, "I see your baby has a kind heart. Do you know why I can tell?", and then to my husband, "Because you have such a kind face, your baby must have a kind heart". Other time he showed us the baby holding his tumb up and said,"Look, he is saying, not to worry dad, I am ok." It was fun. Well, I am relieved that all results are good. In a couple of days I will be 22 weeks and time is flying.

28 January, Monday.

It is 19 weeks already. Almost half-way. Recently I felt the baby move for the first time. It was like definite pokes from inside. Most of them were low and some hit my bladder. Then for a couple of days there were nothing. Today I again feel something, although not as strong. I hope soon I will feel the baby moving all the time.

Thanks so much!! I will be taking you up on that advice on twins offer! Nausea is my biggest enemy right now. How far were you when you delivered them? Good luck with your newest little one!! Best wishes!!:)

janbob - Wednesday, 30 Jan
Hey Mama40 thanks for your advice on the uterus, I will try that in the morning! I know all is well as my little one is also poking but I want to be able to feel him/her safe in their home from the outside too!! Glad your pregnancy is going well - my mum had my sister at 39 with a 15 year age gap between us, I was a great help to my mum apparently and loved having a baby about the house it will be so much fun for all your family! Good luck ;-)

That's awesome that this is your hubby's 1st baby...and that he's so excited about it. My hubby is a little older than me, and already has 2 girls 16 and 9. So this will be his 3rd girl - that's why we had wanted a boy, but we will try next time! :) Sometimes, actually - all the tiime, I wish that this was his 1st so that he was just as excited and everything as I am. Ya know? But he is very excited and very happy.

Yeah, I have so many pregnancy books!! Have you read Belly Laughs by Jenny McArthy? It is soooo funny!...and I just love her! If you haven't read it you definitely should! :)
I'm assuming your 16 yr old girls are twins? That's awesome! Congrats on your baby boy! My hubby was hoping for a boy too - but now he is just thrilled about another little girl! (He already has 2, but was never able to be around F/T cuz he's divorced so he's super happy about this one!) :) He says we'll try for a boy next time!

That is so cool! When I went for my u/s on Friday, doc said that my uterus is a little to the left on me and just below my belly button. But I am definitely going to lay down and start feeling in now...I know when I work out it gets rock hard down there!...but they say thats normal when working out cuz all your muscles contract including the uterus. Do you know how far up does the uterus usually go?
How many kids do you have? Do you know what your having yet w/ this one?

mommi2b - Tuesday, 29 Jan
Hi - I was just reading your posting. I just want to ask you, what does your uterus feel like? Is it hard?

pargy - Monday, 28 Jan
Yes, The baby movements are so funny because on a rational level we have all of these great mothers on this site reassuring us that what we are going through is totally normal. But, the emotional side says i still want to feel something to know that my baby is there. So funny. I am just on top of the work right now to hear that so far things are progressing normally and that i have a healthy baby. Good Luck.

Hi, I posted a message on the board about being concerned about not feeling my baby for a few days. I just got back from my doctor’s and heard my baby’s heart beat on the Baby Doppler and everything is TOTALLY NORMAL. Tomorrow I will be 5 months and 1 week along, but as the weeks progress, the doc said that I will feel the movements more frequently and stronger. He also said that if I get concerned I can go into the office and use there Doppler to listen if I need reassurance.

Thanks for your support and the support of all of the other mothers on this board. It has been amazing.

Hi sweetie!
Glad you got back to me.
Yes, you be careful at night, that ice can be treacherous.
It is really hot here, and has been up into the late 30's (celcius).
You will feel the baby move more often the farther you get along, at 23 weeks, I feel the baby move all the time, some days more than others, my husband felt the baby kick him the other night, it was so cool!

Hi there girl!
Lost you when I changed by screenname a little bit, how are you?

Cosita - Friday, 25 Jan
Funny you mention asthma and allergies, I suffer from both. Actually, everyone in my family does and my honey is a heavy smoker so I'm doomed from both ends. Luckily though it's under control and not severe. The first thing doctors tell me is to get rid of the dogs...YEAH RIGHT!

michellej - Thursday, 24 Jan
wow okay thanks...ill def keep an eye on it. It does scare me, they checked my bp and said it was okay but i dont know if they checked my urine or not. if it keeps up ill just go to the hospital.

oldie44 - Thursday, 24 Jan
Thank you, I am going to try to stay positive. My NT was good, but since I am 44 I felt it is better to proceed with a diagnostic test anyway. I did amnio before with my last child, that is why I feel more comfortable with amnio than with CVS. I am just praying that results will be good and I won't be faced with needing to terminate it at a later term.

michellej - Thursday, 24 Jan
Thanks alot. I went to my dr yesterday morning after i got sick and he said sometimes its normal that some woman have it throughout their who pregnancy..it still scared me. Ive been fine since but if it comes back again ill def go in and have it checked out. I got a good report at the dr so im crossing my fingers everything will be okay. This is my first baby so i get nervous over everything! Ill just be happy when hes here and healthy!! lol, once again thanks so much!!

Cosita - Thursday, 24 Jan
My furry puppies aren't going anywhere...lol. I think everyone is just concerned about the hair, but I have that covered. I have my Dyson and a little iRobot. I would never give them up. FYI older moms ROCK! My mom had me 2 months shy of 40. Her oldest was 20y/o and her youngest was 15y/o. I was her biggest and healthiest baby. Good luck and hope all goes well.

cami695 - Wednesday, 23 Jan
Thank you so much, I hope I can find something that works. Have a great day!

RSUM - Wednesday, 23 Jan
I DON'T THINK THAT WILL WORK BUT I JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE AGAIN. THEY JUST KEEP POST PONING IT EVERYDAY. AND THAT IS JUST AGGREVATING. I CALLED THEM YESTERDAY AND SAID LOOK I HAVE A DOCTORS APPT ON THURSDAY THERE IS NO WAY I'M GOING ON THURSDAY. SO I'LL SEE IF THEY NEED ME STILL AFTER TONIGHT, THEN IF THEY NEED ME ON THURSDAY, I WAS TOLD TO COME ON FRIDAY. WHICH IS FINE FOR ME. BASICALLY IT'S, HOW DO YOU PLAN SOMETHING IF THEY JUST KEEP POST PONING IT ALL THE TIME. IT'S EITHER YOU WANT OR NOT!! AND BE DONE WITH ALL READY. SORRY ABOUT VENTING. THE COURTS SYSTEM JUST GETS ME SO MAD... CAUSE IT SUCKS!! THANKS FOR THE ADVISE THOUGH. HOPE EVERYTHING IS GOING WELL FOR YOU AND YOUR LITTLE ONE ON THE WAY. TOMORROW IS MY 3D/4D SCAN AND GENDER TEST. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THAT!!
