I read your comment on reflux. My first baby had severe reflux and would projectile vomit. Her Dr. put her on nutramagen formula and even had me put cereal in her bottle, so that she could hold it down. She also took zantac. I hope he gets better, I feel for you. I know how frustrating it is.

Maddux - Thursday, 8 May
I give my baby breastmilk via a bottle too but it doesn't seem to be helping much with her. I'm glad you found something though to help your baby. I am really hoping Zantac is the answer for Julia. Thanks for your comment.

Leah is 7 weeks and still loves to be swaddled. I don't swaddle her tightly. I just wrap her up snug. I love the Ultimate Receiving Blanket. They are spendier but super soft and much larger than other receiving blankets. I swear she didn't sleep as well when that blanket was in the laundry. I do breastfeed and pump one bottle per day for her. She seems to take 3-5 oz at a time. All this being said she has started sleeping longer and longer at a time and for a week or so has been sleeping one 6-7 hr stretch and then one 3-4 hour stretch at night. She sleeps in a crib in our bedroom. I think one thing I read with my last that helps is to determine that they are really awake and hungry at night before you get them up. It said babies fuss and are unsettled a few times during the night but are not necessarily ready to get up and eat. Of course, if she was really crying I would go to her, but if she is just snuffling and grunting, sometimes I let her go and she drifts back to sleep. Hope some of this might help. Good luck!

I'm still swaddling my 5 week old, but she fights out of it. She's a lot stronger than she used to be. But the startles she gets still wake her up, so I'm not quite sure what to do.

hglynn - Wednesday, 7 May
hi i saw your message on here about your baby sleeping etc, My baby girl Isabelle is bottle fed and she has started sleeping from 10 at night through to about 6 in the morning, she averages about 4 ozs every 3 hours during the day then has a feed before going to sleep at 10. We have given her a dummy though so I don't know if that prevents her from waking in the night but it doesn't seem to stop her waking in the day.
Issy sleeps in a moses basket at the moment but i don't swaddle her as i she doesn't like it and gets to flustered and hot now. i just put her blanket over her and that keeps her warm.

hi! I pump and give my son milk via the bottle and it seems to work ok. It took a long time at first to pump but than it got A LOT easier make sure you have a good pump like medela electric I rented mine. I honestly prefer it because someone else can feed and I take a break and sleep all night!! haha!

he might get over his acid reflux in awhile and you might be able to breast feed again if you prefer that!

I suspect my son also might have this issue... did a doctor confirm it? I might get mine checked just curious if doctors can tell if they had it... because right now I'm working on suspicians of my own!

babyoneforme - Monday, 5 May
Thanks for the comment on breastfeeding and pumping. I was wondering how many times a day do you pump to get that much?

bigmuma - Sunday, 4 May
I have always used the gripe water and its briliant. Try it out and see for yourself. If he takes to it you will be thanking the man who developed it xx

BabyH - Saturday, 3 May
Also, you might want to try some probiotics, that is what we started her on about 4 days ago and this is my guess as to why we haven't had to use the colic calm for gas in the last 3 days.

BabyH - Saturday, 3 May
We used colic calm gripe water and other gripe water from Whole Foods Store, and the colic calm was our saving grace for the last 7 weeks. The gripe water from whole foods has sodium bicarbonate which apparently is not good and habit forming- and it didn't work for her, it just made her spit up. The Colic Calm was well worth the price they sell it for. The only down side is that she was constantly getting black on everything, but it does come out with the baby oxiclean. I thought she would never outgrow the symptoms, but the last few days she hasn't needed it, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I hope it works for you.

hi there, yes i tried gripe water the other day for the first time, my lit girl is 7 1/2 weeks, and when i first gave it to her, she slept alot(for a few hrs) they say because she actually wasnt fussy or gassy that it relaxed her... so far so good! ( knock on wood)) mine is very fussy n gassy sometimes(she doesnt burp well either) good luck!

MzMommy2B - Friday, 2 May
gripe water seems to make my son vomit, ive tried it 4 seperate times

amanda61403 - Friday, 2 May
Oh no...I wonder if eventually they will go back to somewhat normal. You'll have to keep me updated. Did you go up in size a lot?

Kikiea - Friday, 2 May
Hi! My son cried CONSTANTLY!! I mean sometimes it was 8 hours straight!! It was horrible.. and he was obviously in pain, which was the worst cuz I couldnt' fix it! You think your son's maybe gas.. have you tried giving him Mylicon with every bottle? It's safe to give with every feeding.. and that was one suggestion by my docs prior to putting him on prescriptiosn... it didn't work for us.. but if you give it prior to every bottle you may be able to stop the gas before it starts!!

JenO - Thursday, 1 May
He basically did the same thing...cried and fussed during and after eating and he constantly spits up! He also has the hiccups all the time which apparently is a symptom of reflux too

~NyMom - Thursday, 1 May
Manda I don't do the 15 minutes on each side during breastfeeding.. what I do is give the first breast and let her drink till she lets go and needs a burp than I switch to the other side and let her stay there as long as she wants too.. as long as she is latching properly there is no reason to time sides.. timing doesn't prevent sore nipples..good latching does... I am satisfied I feed her this way because I know she is content getting the first milk and the hind milk as well.

loriking18 - Thursday, 1 May
about the breastfeeding my baby has allways done like 10-15 min total and he is fine he has gained more weight then he is supposed to he has about 6-8 poops each day and he has never spit up but I think my milk comes out VERY fast so he does not need to eat as long so this may be why your baby is done so fast your milk may come fast too!

You are so welcome! We are all here for each other, so if you need anything else, please don't hesitate to ask. Now if we can just get our little guys to sleep through the night, we would be set..lol.

bayBontheway - Wednesday, 9 April
Thank you for your response. It is very encouraging. Congrats on your new baby and I hope everything goes well.

Hi there! I just wanted to let you know breast feeding gets better and better everyday! I don't let my son get on my nipples unless he opens his mouth wide and takes in the entire areola. Sometimes, I have to open his mouth a little wider with my breast. Babies will usually open wider if you give it to them and then take it away when they won't open wide enough. Also, I had a lactation Nurse visit me at home and she helped wonders. She told me to put the baby on the breast just long enough for a let-down (4-5 minutes), then put him on the other breast for 4-5 minutes. Then put the baby back on the original breast you started with to get the hind milk. The hind milk stays in their stomach longer and makes them last longer between feedings. Your feedings shouldn't last longer than 20 minutes. I can't imagine breast feeding for an hour! Once we tried what the nurse told us, he gained 3 ounces immediatly after his feeding. Don't let the bfing rule your life. If your little one isn't latching on, it can be very painful and discouraging. Just make sure the breast is in the back of the baby's mouth. That is where their sucking muscles are. Good luck and keep me updated on how it goes. You are doing the best thing for your baby and no one can take that away from you!

manda21: I am not a new mommy yet as my little bundle isn't here yet but I do have an almost 5yr old. I just wanted to comment about the pacifier. I know alot of people who totally refuse to let their babies use one. I will tell you for me it was a life saver and if you don't give them the 'binky' they will more then likley suck on their thumb. Which is dirty. You can take the 'binky' away you can not take their thumb away. LOL And babies like to be swaddled so always in a receiving blanket and in a one peice outfit. Usually called sleepers. You don't really get into real outfits until they are atleast a month old. As baby doesnt go anywhere other then doctors that first month. As summer starts to get closer you will be the judge of you baby. Always remember that baby is always usually colder then you and keep them covered. They spent the last 9+ months in 98 degree weather or warmer. You would be cold coming out of that. Hope this was helpful. All else fails call Grandma they always know. LOL

congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!! btw, ur puppy is ADORABLE!!!!!!!

niseybear - Monday, 31 Mar
My son took a pacifier for about 2 weeks after he was born, but wants nothing to do with them now. Not a bad thing really. LOL He sleeps in his bassinet in my bedroom at night and during the afternoons when I'm up and about, I put him in his crib in his nursery. He does well with both.
