Hi there! I just wanted to let you know breast feeding gets better and better everyday! I don't let my son get on my nipples unless he opens his mouth wide and takes in the entire areola. Sometimes, I have to open his mouth a little wider with my breast. Babies will usually open wider if you give it to them and then take it away when they won't open wide enough. Also, I had a lactation Nurse visit me at home and she helped wonders. She told me to put the baby on the breast just long enough for a let-down (4-5 minutes), then put him on the other breast for 4-5 minutes. Then put the baby back on the original breast you started with to get the hind milk. The hind milk stays in their stomach longer and makes them last longer between feedings. Your feedings shouldn't last longer than 20 minutes. I can't imagine breast feeding for an hour! Once we tried what the nurse told us, he gained 3 ounces immediatly after his feeding. Don't let the bfing rule your life. If your little one isn't latching on, it can be very painful and discouraging. Just make sure the breast is in the back of the baby's mouth. That is where their sucking muscles are. Good luck and keep me updated on how it goes. You are doing the best thing for your baby and no one can take that away from you!

manda21: I am not a new mommy yet as my little bundle isn't here yet but I do have an almost 5yr old. I just wanted to comment about the pacifier. I know alot of people who totally refuse to let their babies use one. I will tell you for me it was a life saver and if you don't give them the 'binky' they will more then likley suck on their thumb. Which is dirty. You can take the 'binky' away you can not take their thumb away. LOL And babies like to be swaddled so always in a receiving blanket and in a one peice outfit. Usually called sleepers. You don't really get into real outfits until they are atleast a month old. As baby doesnt go anywhere other then doctors that first month. As summer starts to get closer you will be the judge of you baby. Always remember that baby is always usually colder then you and keep them covered. They spent the last 9+ months in 98 degree weather or warmer. You would be cold coming out of that. Hope this was helpful. All else fails call Grandma they always know. LOL

My son took a pacifier for about 2 weeks after he was born, but wants nothing to do with them now. Not a bad thing really. LOL He sleeps in his bassinet in my bedroom at night and during the afternoons when I'm up and about, I put him in his crib in his nursery. He does well with both.

What an awesome labour story. I love hearing stories like yours. Congratulations!

MrsSilva - Friday, 28 Mar
OMG! congrats. I'm so glad to hear that my baby might actually come soon. I feel like nothing is happening. It's so frusterating! Anyway I cant wait to see some pictures. Good luck with everything.

BabyHelton - Friday, 14 Mar
I get little period-like light cramps, but I personally don't think of them as contractions. I couldn't possibly time them, or time when they start or anything. But yet, I'm like you - 2cm dilated with the baby about to come out.

crystal405 - Thursday, 13 Mar
I have been dealing with the same pains. It literally feels like I just got my period! I've had really bad cramps, and my lower back hurts. I asked my doc about it today, and unfortunately, he said they were just braxton hicks contractions and they were totally normal. I also had my internal and NADA! Not dilated or anything. I know, not what you wanted to hear. It's like we're going through all this pain and discomfort just to find out that it has contributed ZILCH with regards to ANY progress! Hope you're doing well, otherwise. And, don't worry..not too much longer!

babydane - Wednesday, 12 Mar
Yes, I can raise my hand to that. Monday night along with these period like cramps MY BACK HURTS SO BAD. I see my doctor today and I will be asking. Hang in he girl we're almost there. :)
P.S. Warm baths help ease the pain, but doesn't take it completely away.

spen - Friday, 7 Mar
Yes the dr. told me pretty much the same thing. Are you having really painful braxton hicks or contractions yet? I have been walking and my back feels like it is going to break in half along with cramps... I hope this is the onset of labor.

blissgirl9 - Thursday, 6 Mar
Thanks for the info. I figured it was baby squishing me somehow, but it is really freaky to feel these pains out of nowhere and in places that you don't normally feel pain!

ndoak - Thursday, 6 Mar
I completely know what you are talking about with those really sharp pains in the groin/pelvis which for me also just started this week. I believe my baby boy has dropped significantly as it is also harder to find a comfortable seated position! Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

baby-kenadie - Monday, 3 Mar
I would just ask your Dr to check you. My doc did not have any intentions on checking me, but as soon as I asked she did.

chezslittlejake - Monday, 3 Mar
I had my first internal check at 36 weeks 2 days.x

bebebaby1 - Monday, 3 Mar
It totally depends on your doctor whether he/she wants to check you at this point or not. I have been checked already at 35 weeks. It is just to give them an idea of your progress. Its quite embarrassing and uncomfortable..but it has to be done!! Best of luck to you:)

halesss7410 - Thursday, 21 Feb
i guess cause i work at the hospital and see my doc on a casual basis..(and the fact that he is really good looking) it is emabarassing!! My face turns all red, its really not funny! lol...ill get used to it eventually i hope!

halesss7410 - Wednesday, 20 Feb
u already had ur strep test?? how bad is it...what do they do? mine is next thursday.

Jo-Mama - Friday, 15 Feb
I felt the hiccups on the right side by my belly button too. I think that's where my baby's chest is (he/she is head down), so I think I felt it as its little body shook, not where its mouth is. It was regular and at first I thought it was just my heart beat. But it was not on track with my heart beat, so I could tell it was something different. I hope I feel it again.

jessicadarling - Friday, 15 Feb
I don't think so. I think you should just have a warm bath, stick your feet up and take it easy for a few days. If it gets worse definitely talk to your doctor about it

jessicadarling - Friday, 15 Feb
10 a day are normal. 4-6 an hour are not normal and could be signs of preterm labour. Just keep count

Jo-Mama - Saturday, 9 Feb
I haven't felt any Braxton Hicks either. Neither did my sisters when they were pregnant or my est friend. So I think it's pretty normal not to feel them.

mommyinthesky - Tuesday, 5 Feb
I read that this is supposed to be our peak week for baby movement. I don't think it's been that way for me, but that's what I read. From here on it slows down a bit, but the baby is still supposed to move noticeably a few times a day.

2nd-time-mommy - Tuesday, 5 Feb
hope you have a happy and healthy little boy. I see he is due on april 1 my first daughter was born on that day suspose to be my littl boy came out a girl april fools lol good luck hun

2nd-time-mommy - Tuesday, 5 Feb
my midwife gave me a fom to fill out timimn fetal movement she said you should feel the baby move 10 times in an hour if not try to eat someting to see if you can get her moving if youstill dont feel her move 10 times in an hour to contact your doc

Jo-Mama - Tuesday, 5 Feb
I think that after this week, the movements start to slow down, but that's just an average. It depends on how much room the baby has to move around in there. I would think that a bigger baby in a smaller uterus would feel more cramped and would then be felt less.
