i'm a little jealous that you're being induced b/c this baby is big but i swear he likes the tummy he is in and probably won't want to come out!:) Ditto on the work thing - I've been off work since week 24 b/c my pelvic bones were spreading so much and i was experiencing sharp pains. so worth it though now that we are so close! can't wait for my sweetie to show up! good luck with everything!

Oh gees girl you have it pretty rough! I am sorry to hear about the SPD. Hang in there and let me know how your doctors appointments go tomorrow. I wish they could have told me yesterday how much the baby weighs, but I enjoyed seeing him again. I too am feeling overwhelmed by only 5 weeks left untill baby is here! I have so much to do still.

Thank You very much for your comment.

Saw your posting on week 33, i have SPD too and the doc said to take small amounts of tylenol, try heating pad on low, and also to sit in a luke warm bath. so far, none of these tips have helped me all that much but some days are better than others. i feel the most relief when i lay on my left side with a large pillow between my legs. back rubs are great too :) good luck!

Hey I had my ultrasound this morning. The tech doesn't do the 'readings' so I don't get to know how much he weighs untill I go back to the doctor next week. But the plus side, everything else on him looks great. He has 10 fingers and toes!!! He was too cute he has chunky cheeks and the cutest pouty lips, it was amazing to see him again. He has chenged so much from 19 weeks. ANd he is head down which is good. So you got to find out immediately how much your baby wieghs? I hate waiting I wish I knew.

Thanks so much! I will have to do some research into yoga/excercise. It must be hard being on bed rest...but think about it, this is the last time that you'll be able to 'relax' in bed! 'Cause once your little one comes, you'll be so busy you'll wish you could relax in bed (ha, ha). Take it easy!

I was looking up SPD. Ouch! I am sorry. There appears to to be some sucess from chiropractic. I am sure you have done the traditional stuff...pillows in between legs, pain killers, trying not to use your pelvis bone. Wow. So you have to do some research and hopefully you will come out with some relief for this one and maybe even so the next pregnancies won't be so terrible. heres the site I was looking on. You probally looked at it already. http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/pubicpain.htm#Traditional%20Approach
I know it says plus size but thats what the info was on. I guess we are plus size though with all our baby weight. hee hee... You got to do something before your shower next weekend. I encourage you to really do research on delivery with spd. There are sites that talk about positions. Good luck darling. Thanks for all the encouragement you are always giving me. I have been praying all morning and suddenly I am feeling a lot better. I am going to hold faith that I will be as good as possible today. :) have a great day sweety!

I just read that you have been diagnosed with
SPD, I'm only 8.3 wks pregnant with my 2nd, but already feel pain, I feel like I'm limiping when walking and especially if I have to turn a corner it really hurts! I've not had it this bad before...what did your dr recommend? Any exercises or stretches? your input is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I am doing good with my diet. I had my baby shower Saturday and my birthday is actaually today. I had small piece cake at my shower, I just made sure I ate lots of veggies and good carbs with it and my numbers were fine. They tried to send me home with more cake and I had to say no, that would be too much of a temptation for me. I met with the diestician yesterday and he said my numbers look perfect, just keep up the good work. It is hard but I make myslef walk a lot and if I am eating something yucky I just try to eat really fast. I can't wait to go back to normal, this scheduling your meals and testing blood is time consuming!!! I have an ultrasound tomorrow to see how big the baby is, I will let you know how that goes. I have a question, is the ultrasound harder to see the baby since he is much bigger than he was at 19 weeks when I had my last one? I was just wondering. Glad to hear you are doing good too, not too much longer now!!!

hey there I have spoken to my doctor about this to and she recommended the same thing and I thought to myself are you for real but I am counting the weeks down because like you said turning around in bed is awful and sometimes leaves me in tears. I was thinking that since this is my third maybe the baby is lower and that could be causing it. Now all I can think about it labor and how more painful it is going to be during that time. Oh yeah I didnt find out what I am having this time. My youngest is 5 1/2 so I figure we can make this preggo even more exciting by not finding out. I honestly wish I would not have found out with the other two either. Thanks for telling me more about this pelvic thing than my doctor that is why I LOVE THIS SITE!!!

Hello just read your post about the pelvic pain and I am right with you. I have heard of that nerve but it is usually in the back and butt not in the pelvic area so I am still at a loss as to where the pain comes from. The bigger the baby the worse mine as been.

Jo-Mama - Monday, 4 Feb
I have had sciatica pain and it was in my butt, not my pelvic region. I had a massage and went swimming and it feels a lot better now.

lisar - Monday, 4 Feb
Hi. I had sciatica my last pregnancy & it was a shooting pain from my lower back down my butt into the top of my leg. I don't know if that helps, but thats what it was like for me.

lilylu - Monday, 4 Feb
Hi There, reading your post, it sounds as if you have SPD to me! Theres a section on this sight about it, you should give it a read and see if it sounds anything like what you are feeling!I have SPD and what you described sounded just like it!! I Also suffered with sciatica with my first pregnancy, and that was a sharp pain starting in my back and traveling down my leg! Really painful! Hope i have helped alittle, good luck xx

mommyinthesky - Monday, 4 Feb
Yes, it is sciatica. I injured my back several years ago and have it under normal circumstances, but pregnancy aggravates it a lot. It does sound like that is what you have. There are many stretches that can be done, massage helps a lot, and I have a back brace that I wear occasionally, I sleep with a snoogle pillow and have been able to at least control the pain. There is a muscle called the psoas muscle that gets inflamed for me and when it goes into spasm, it hits the sciatic nerve and the pain can sometimes run all the way down into my foot and at it's worst I could hardly walk. Another thing that has worked for me in the past, though I don't know why, is that my sciatica is worst when I am lacking a B vitamin with iron. However, your pre natal vitamin has iron I am sure, but I had to take a Slo Fe supplement for anemia and it ended up helping the sciatica as well, though I really don't know why.

kath - Monday, 4 Feb
It sounds like you are suffering from Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD) NOT Sciatica.

In order to make your baby's passage through your pelvis as easy as possible, your body produces a hormone called relaxin, which softens the ligaments in your pelvis. As a result, these joints move more during and just after pregnancy. The movement causes pain in the pubic area and groin.

The pain may travel down the inside of the thighs or between your legs. The pain is usually made worse by separating your legs, walking, going up or down stairs or moving around in bed.

I suffer from it. At first on and off. Now it's just permanently there. Just try and rest as much as possible. It helps to ease the pain.

Good luck with everything.

I'm a Massage Therapist buy trade and I usto work for a Chiropractor up tell 6 months ago. Many of pregnant women would come in while pregnant complaining of low back pain and butt pain. Here are a few things I have found that may help you. I am also a sufferer of this so i thought i would share with you what sciatica is and what it does. The sciatic nerve is a large nerve which comes from your lower back and travels down the back of your legs and then branches out to your feet. It allows you to feel sensations and move muscles in your legs. Sciatica is where inflammation or pressure from the back causes the sciatic nerve to become painful. Sometimes, the function of the nerve can become impaired resulting in weakness or pins and needles. Sciatica can be present with or without backache and can send pain down the back of your leg. The pain of sciatica can be shooting, burning or you may experience pins and needles or numbness. It may come and go, often affects just one side and can occasionally be so severe that every movement is excruciating. You may experience lower back pain, pain at the back of the thigh, a pain that extends down the back of the leg to the foot, a burning or tingling sensation in your leg, numbness or pins and needles in your leg or foot. The pain may just be in small patches or affect larger areas. Many women develop sciatica during pregnancy, though sciatica isn't a result necessarily of being pregnant. Pressure on the sciatic nerve during pregnancy can lead to backache or other discomfort. Some women assume that the baby presses on the sciatic nerve resulting in pain or discomfort. This is not necessarily however the case. Many times sciatic pain during pregnancy results from damage to a disc in the spine. This can cause inflammation in the tissues surrounding the never or result in direct pressure to the nerve (if for example, the disc has slipped out of place and is compressing the nerve). Women who are pregnant are more prone to disc injury, hence the relationship. Seeing a chiropractor and getting adjustments helps. Stretching your leg muscles helps also, and last ,wearing a maternity girdle helps it pull your belly up and gets the pressure off your lower back . Hot and cold compressions help, hot baths and also Massages. After you have the baby it should go away, but is you do have some type of back injury it will not. I hope this will help you and I hope you feel better.

Yes I have heard of sciatica pain! It's very painful and usually I feel it in my left leg or the left side of my pubic bone area, sometimes even when you sit making it hard to put on pants get in and out of a car or anything separating your legs.It is because the baby is putting lots of weight on that nerve.Maternity braces help me tremendously along with Tylenol and sleeping with my snoogle. You will be surprised the difference it makes.GOOD LUCK!

here is a link to an interesting article about sciatica or sciatic nerve pain during pregnancy. Hope that helps! It is pretty common during pregnancy so don't worry. You aren't alone!

Did you go out and get the rtantidine (zantac)?? It is absolutely safe while pregnant. The norm dose is 75mg morning and night but I take 300mg morning and night. My GI doc said 300mg twice a day is the max and it was totally safe in pregnancy. Don't suffer with the heartburn sweety! Its miserable!

I will continue to pray for your pain. I know all the previous health issues have made it more difficult for you. I wish I could tell you everythings going to be okay soon--though it probally will be--but I am in the same boat just crawling to the end feeling like it will be months more. I really want to be a good trooper and not complain and drag my feet resenting these next weeks but I can't help it. I want to clean house but I just can't I am still way to weak and sick to do much. I stayed in bed til 1pm today hoping that time would make the nausea go away but it was still there. Finally I just said screw it I need to eat. I gagged down some bread and eggs and so far it hasn't projectiled back up. I hope it stays down. Are you planning on nursing after? I wonder if there will be any extra pain in the scars as you are contracting back. Can you take tylenol everyday now? I would ask what pain relief you could get to ease the pain. Some of the reliefs after will pass through your milk--so start asking the pharmacist and doctor what will be safe while nursing. (if you plan to nurse) I have severe acid reflux and the muscle that closes your stomach off does not close for me. (I was scheduled for a surgery 2 days after I found out I was preganant to go in and repair the muscle--I of course canceled it) so I take a lot of meds to neutralize the acids. Nothing works that can be prescribed while pregnant. The prescription bottle of zantac says DO NOT USE WHILE BREASTFEEDING! So great now I have a new dilema what to take after shes born. I have to get an appt with the GI--which takes about 2 months to get into so I am going to have to beg and plead to get in before shes born. I won't get the surgery done while shes nursing either as I will be on pain killers, have 4 incisions right under my breast, and don't think iot would be real comfy having a baby near those incisions. OUCH! Well I am going to run and take a shower...its almost 2pm and I am sitting in PJ's. Have a good day. Your shower's coming up...yeah for you! Have fun!
