I participated on this site my entire pregnancy...my baby is now 4 months old. I took a break after I returned to work, but I find myself wanting to participate again, and I think I can squeeze it in on lunch breaks and such.

My little story:

I will have been married one year on June 30th. My husband is the love of my life...my absolute soul mate, and well worth the wait to find him. He was a Catholic priest for eighteen years before we met, and I was a single parent for six. After experiencing so many years of loneliness, we really appreciate the life we have together far more than I am able to articulate here. He is my best friend, and I treasure every moment with him. Not to suggest all has been smooth sailing! We've had some serious challenges, with him leaving ministry, a difficult pregnancy, the premature birth of our son, and an extended newborn phase that prevented us from sleeping far longer than parents of full term babies!

My 8 year old daughter was my reason for being for many years. When I got pregnant with her, I was single, had just returned from working as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Eastern Caribbean for two years and wasn't quite sure what direction my life was going. She motivated me to go back to graduate school, learn transcendental meditation, cut relationships that weren't in my best interest, and in general, take better care of myself. Our years of just the two of us were challenging, but I wouldn't trade them for anything. Everything happens for a reason. So now I'm a married mother of two beautiful, healthy children, living in my dream home, a 130 year old farm house, and surrounded by loving family (well, ok, on my side...I do have some challenging inlaws) and friends, and working at a job I love. I never thought I could feel this happy and fulfilled. Life is good!

weight gain?! yikes! maybe the reglan, then? God luck to you too! Fifteen months is impressive, I'll be happy with 9-12 months, you can put them on cow's milk at 1yr right?

Thanks, we think they're keepers ;-)
yes the spacing is nice!! He is a tremendous help!! I ask my babysitter all the time if the four oz bottles are holding her over, and she says that they are, so....
I have also had my MIL and my son feed her bottles and she always plays with that last ounce, barely finishing it. Do you think it may have to do with the formula? I know formula fed babies eat more. I have stressed so much over having to supplement her with formula b/c my son was all formula fed and had the worst reflux ever (nothing to do with the formula tho...) Fortunately I haven't had to so far. I have heard that Fenugreek is a natural stimulant for breastmilk production that can work in as quick as three days, I believe the sell at any drugstore in the natural drug section. I had a good supply of frozen bags stored up from before I came off of maternity leave, so even on the occasional off day I can make up for it. The only side effect I have read about from fenugreek is that your sweat will smell like maple syrup?? Not sure why. I had my doc prescribe me reglan which is a med that treats reflux in adults, but also stimulates more milk production. My little girl is 15lbs now at 4 months, so it seems she's right on target, and they say at this age they start to eat less frequently, so in ten hours she's only taking three-sometimes four bottles. Once she starts doing 5-6 oz I may have to take something to increase my milk, hopefully not. Hope you're able to increase what you are pumping!! I'm sure it won't be a prob, I'd rather take either of those than supplement with formula, but don't feel bad one bit if you HAVE to use formula- my son has thrived just fine, and that's all he ever had. Good luck Sorry so long!

Gosh that sounds like my day to a tee!! Except we're out the house by 6:20am and my first pump is at 8ish. Same amount and everything. I had my daughter like a week or two after you had yours and I too have a child (7yr old boy) from a previous relationship. Thanks so much for the info. Take care!!

so i am assuming the higher the number, the smaller they are? How do you know what size you're using? I bought the shields in babies r us, they're the medela ones, but I don't recall them having a size on them. Where did you get the 27 and 30 ones at? And how can you tell if the shield is too small? How old is your baby? How much do you typically pump in an 8-9 hour workday now that you've gone back to standard shield? Sorry so many ?'s!!!

Her mom signed away her rights willingly. She was raised by many different family members, all of which protected her mom and made excuses for her alcohol abuse. When Maddies mom signed away rights she called me crying and made me promise we would go thru with adopting her (which of course we were) She said she wished someone would have stepped in and done the same with her and maybe the cycle could have been broken then. Maddies dad I think had his rights terminated by the judge in April and we are now begining to begin the adoption process if that makes sence? I don't quite understand how it all works. We have to take all of the steps to be aproved as adoptive parents and then they will start moving forward with the adoption process. Maddie was exposed to some drugs during her mothers pregnancy and they had a 4month old die of suffication when she was 18 months old and mom and dad completly shut down after that. She was severly neglected and quit developing emotionaly and socialy from that point. She is quite the handful and as a foster child we get a lot of resources from the state so untill we get all of those things sorted out we are happy for the adoption to move slowly. I must admit there are days where she overwhelms me and I have to let my husband handle her and get out and take a walk or send her to a friends for a day to catch my breath but we are not giving up on her. If one of the children I gave birth to were to be this challenging we would not give up on them, we asked to have her and we will stick it out. She is sooo much fun in between behavioral issues. She makes the funniest little faces and is one of the most loving gentle children I have ever known. Once all of my little ones are big, and I have more time to devote to just one child we may take another foster child. I would want one that is likely to be adopted. My heart could not take putting so much time and security into them to have to give them back.

i read your comment on the pumping thing. I use the medela in style pump, which one do you use? I was unaware they have different size shields???

my husband had hernia surgery when he was a baby, when they went in to do his vasectomy the first time the dr. couldn't find the tube on one side to snip but due to our infertility issues with our first two, he thought it probably never worked on that side anyway. He cut and cauterized the other side as usual and told him to come back and have it checked, if he had a count they would go back in and dig around more to find it....My husband never went back for the count and we didn't get pregnant for 2 years. Last summer suddenly things started smelling really strong, then on our anniversary I was really starting to be nausiated so I took a test thinking it was not even a possibility and I was just being parinoid. Nope, by your 4th pregnancy you pretty much know right away. Two dark pink lines showed up. I hadn't told him I was taking a test and he was at the neighbors when I did it...He can in and I was on the couch in tears. When he saw the test we felt like a couple of teenagers. He was actaully VERY excited. I know it sounds terrible but I was devistated for the first 3 months. I was finally just out of the baby phase, my husband was home by 3 every day and making a comfortable amount of money and we were moving forward with the big kid phase of our lives. Once I started to feel the baby move I started to get excited. I found this site when I was about 3 months and it helped me so much. Of course God knew what he was doing and Sam is amazing, he's so much fun! I is a whole new experience to have a baby with big kids in the house to fuss overy him. My husband went back and went thru the VERY painful process of having that second side snipped for sure this time but dispite my nagging he has not gone in for a count. The dr. was very confident that both sides had been taken care of for sure this time and reasured me that it truly would be an act of God if we get pregnant again this time.

I have done the same thing with the maternity clothes!!! Its hard to find things to wear. I was 120 pre-pregnancy, ballooned up to about 185 and am now at 150.......its been hard to lose the weight. I have been walking in the mornings and trying to eat well but it doesnt seem to be doing the trick this time. I also have more cellulite/jiggle than ever before that I pray goes away when the weight does. I want to go to the gym but have been too afraid to take the baby to the daycare there for fear of germs etc. She has only had round 1 of the HIB shot and the Polio....next month she gets the DTaP and the Prevnar and then I will feel a little better about it.

That sounds just like my little one! She was born at 33 weeks and 2 days. But she was a good size at 5 pounds. She is about 13 pounds now as well. She also got diagnosed with GERD. It must be a preemie thing,,, Yeah her development is slower I have noticed, at first her eyes wouldn't track anything and that had me nervous, but slowly she has been following things. She loves to kick and stand up strait on her legs. Hates tummy time and is starting to find her voice. Her smiles are contagious!
Work Out is a good show! If they can do it so can we!!!! Ha-ha that's so funny about the reality shows...I watch them too.
What is your son on for reflux?? Your doctor said you could feed him cereal?? Wow thats crazy!

pawsitvemama - Monday, 16 June
I just noticed your son was a preemie?? My baby girl was too. Are you noticing a difference in development?

pawsitvemama - Monday, 16 June
Thanks so much! She is a cutie, but has changed so much since then!!! I can't upload images from my new camera, well at least can't figure it out anyway. So how is your little one doing??

I know the weight is so hardto deal with... I gained 50 ugly pounds during pregnancy and lost 18. So I have sooo much to loose still, it will happen I know it will but my body is still in shock from everything. I am taking it slow. The past 2 weeks I have been eating really good and have been trying to move as much as I can ( like me and my boyfriend played tennis 2x this week and I went for a walk on Saturday...these things will slowly help. I lost 2 pounds in two weeks- so it's slow but as long as I am not gaining I am happy. I just bought a dvd a workout called Mambo mom. It's so funny it's a workout/dancing tape ( the mambo) that you do with your baby n the front or back pack. We tried it once and she loved it! Her little legs were kicking away! Now if I could just do it every morning I would be golden! Ha-ha I know what you mean about getting up so early, as we don't have enough on our shoulders!! But I Hope to god you are right after the breastfeeding I will be able to cut my calroies and loose this horrible weight!

jenlove - Monday, 16 June
I read your post where you mentioned day care... how is that going for you? What type do you have him in? 9 to 5? How's it working out? I struggle with the issue so I'm just curious how others handle it. Thanks. Hope you and yours are doing well!

baby bug - Monday, 16 June
hi! I read your post about having a lot of weight to lose and I can completely relate!! My stomach is still really big and I am having a really hard time finding clothes that fit me and look good! I was never stick thin, but now I just feel huge! I guess I have to be patient, but it's hard!!

CRAZYEIGHTS - Monday, 16 June
Thanks. We just see things very different. The God he worships seems to be different from the God I worship. Don't get me started on the Bible issue.

CRAZYEIGHTS - Monday, 16 June
Thank you. I've been really torn up about the responses. I only try to be helpful. I worry about little ones so much. That family is suffering terribly. Your words have helped me tremendously.

momoffive - Sunday, 15 June
do you have chapped nippels at all? If they are bleeding at all that may explain the brown in the spit up. My sisters daughter did that when she was still a newborn. Other than that, I'm clueless as to what it could be. Good luck figuring it out though, I'm curious to hear what caused it.

collsbaby - Sunday, 15 June
Oh cool! There you are, I was like, hey wait!!! Where did you go?? I can't believe Ian is 4 months old! That is so crazy! How is he doing? How big is he now? I just took Summer in for you 2 mo shots because we've been out of town and she's already 11 lbs 8 oz and she's 24 inches long!!! She is getting sooooo long! She was 21 in when she was born and she's only 11 weeks. She falls into the 97th% for her height! If she continues like this she'll be about 5'10 or 5'11. I'm about 5'9, and Todd is about 6'1, so we're pretty tall. But dang, she is growing like a weed! How is work? I'm going to start doing some feelance writing, I just need to get on it though! I've been sick since I got home from my trip to my parents in So Cal, so I've been lazy. But with all the money I spent at Target while I was there, I need to get on it soon before Todd sees the bills!! haha! (We don't have a Target here, so I went a little crazy!) I'll check out you new pics! Glad you're back!!

I just wanted to say that I didn't think that it was "wrong" (as other said) to post that news story about co-sleeping... some people are a little too sensative. If they want to live in a happy dream-world where nothing bad happens, they are in for a rude awakening!
