i know that a family history makes you a little more likely to be affected with gestational diabetes. I had no known family history though. there are just so many changes happening in your body right now and i think that some peoples bodies just handle those changes better than others. my mom is a nurse practioner and i should be seeing her in a few hours, i will ask her more about it then.

hey sweetie! how are you feeling lately? did you find out about the "mommy classes" yet? well i saw your post about what a glucose test is, and i just wanted to tell you. its a test your doc will do at the office. they have you drink a really sugary/syrupy drink (like a super sugary orange soda) and they'll have you stay there for like 3 hours, and another time during your pregnancy they'll do it again and have you wait 1 hour (i think). then they test your blood sugar after each hour and determine if you have Diabetes or not.
hope you're feeling well!

My doctor has an office outside of the hospital as well. I go there for every visit. At some point they should tell you what to do when the time comes, probably near the end. What we were told with our first two was that when we think we are in labor, to call the doctor's office. If it is after hours, their answering service will page the doctor. You tell them how far apart your contractions are and they tell you to go to the hospital or stay home.
If you are hurting too much and you don't want to wait on the doctor to call back, then leave a message with their answering service/office, or have them call you back on your cell phone and just say "We are on our way." But if you don't call them before going to the hospital, the hospital will call your doctor when you arrive, so either way you are good!
Our hospital takes you to a tiny room where you see a nurse who hooks you up to a monitor to be sure you are having contractions, then they take you to a real labor and delivery room and you get to see the doctor.
My hospital also has a whole building for maternity, so it's easier to know where to go. Even though we took the classes, my husband is a bit stupid and thought we had to go to the Emergency Room. I let him do it the first time because I wasn't familiar with the place, but with our 2nd child I over ruled him and made him take me where I wanted to go! If you go to the wrong part of the hospital, they put you in a wheelchair and take you where you need to be.
Even if your class doesn't take you to the hospital as a group, you can go there yourself and just ask someone where labor and delivery is.That way it will be a little less confusing on the Big Day! People do it all the time, so they won't look at you funny :)

yeah that's EXACTLY how i am. i've never really gotten m/s, and my eating habits are awful. and it doesnt help that most vegetables have been making me nauseous lately!

*Baby-Mine* - Thursday, 1 May
Good i'm glad! welcome to america! :p lol if i can help you with anything else please let me know! dont hesitate! how are you feeling lately?

*Baby-Mine* - Thursday, 1 May
well you dont necessarily have to be seen at a hospital. he can just tell you what hospital around you offers them. i guess technically theres no rush to get these classes done since we got a ways to go still, but just next time you see him be sure to ask

*Baby-Mine* - Thursday, 1 May
hey sweetie, how are you liking the US so far? hope you're having a nice experience!
as for the classes, you can usually find them at any hospital. that's where i'm taking all of my classes.
The best person to ask WOULD be your doc, because he most likely will know of specific places that hold them in your area. hope i helped! good luck!

Hi! This is my first pregnancy too, but in my doctor's office there are a lot of fliers and stuff that the hospitals offer for certain classes. I'm sure your doctor will mention them as your due date approaches, they come highly recommended. You can always ask him around when you should go and which classes he/she recommends if it doesnt come up. They are easy to find though, all hospitals I know of offer them.

Cailet - Thursday, 1 May
Hi. I would ask your doctor about the classes. They will probably give you information on it, but it's better to ask. Some doctors assume people know already, or they just have something posted in their office about it. If you ask, they will give you all the information, or the phone number for you to call and find out.
Most of the classes are really good, especially if this is your first pregnancy. They talk about the things your body goes through, but they also talk about what to do and where to go when you go into labor. Our class took a 'field trip' to the hospital to show us exactly where to check in. It's also nice to just be around other pregnant couples.

I like the layout of Irving. I like that it is 30 minutes to nearly anywhere in the metro area. There are places to go just 10 minutes away. I like the libary. I like all the parks. I like the ease of getting from place to place. I like the shopping.

gr8scottswife - Saturday, 19 April
I used to live in Irving and miss it.
